Everything was fine, with some exceptions. There is a range rule here about 1 shot per 5 seconds. Zeroed my new AR. During the zero there were shooters to my right that violated this policy continually and we're just warned over and over. No big deal it is a gun range. What is a big deal is that these same idiots closed their bolt during a cease fire while my buddy and I were downrange. Then towards the end of the day we went to the 300m range and I followed the example set by those idiots and fired controlled pairs at my targets for one magazine. I was asked to leave the range. Now why weren't the idiots who violated the same rule over a greater duration and closed their bolt during a cease fire asked to leave?? I did violate the rules but I followed a president that had already been set and did so for a much shorter duration. Also it's worth mentioning that a shotgun range to my right was firing rapidly most of the time I was there. So you can fire more often than once per 5 seconds, but I guess you have to it for the privilege. read more

We got there this morning as soon as they opened so we had the rifle range to ourselves. Overall the experience was great. They do have range officials which apparently bothers some people but I don't mess around with firearm safety so it didn't bother me. The individual that checked on us was very friendly. They provide a shooting platform and a stool so all you really need to bring is your rifle and ammo. I enjoyed my trip there and will be sure to go again. I will say they were already getting pretty busy by the time we left. For it being the middle of the week, I can only imagine how busy they would be on the weekend. read more

I love their private bays! You can shoot pistol and rifle at the same time. They have one private bay that you can shoot shotgun, pistol and rifle. You pay 15 for two hours. I don't care much about their public pistol range, there are no dividers and you have to go downrange to set up your target, i would suggest wearing a brass catcher on your left ear so you can catch the brass from the shooter on you left, lol... Overall, the place is not bad, the price is great.The staff are friendly. read more

The bullet hole has a good range for pistols and rifles and this is definately as WYSIWYG place. At arrival the run down appearance of the outside and small details like the broken coke machine that takes quaters only or the floor that your fear you will fall through when your in the office are not important. This place is inexpensive for what you want which is to relieve stress and practice to be a better shot. I warn you now I like to come here any other day but Saturday, this is an open range. That means their is no walls from you to the next guy, and that means hot brass coming out at you. That aside, the range is outside and covered so no sun beating down on you but when Texas gets hot you still feel the heat. With your purchase you get basic items given to you like a target, eyes, and ears, and you can rent weapons but have to buy their bullets to shoot them. (which is not a bad idea if your looking to buy one and want to get a taste for a Glock or a Sig) The range is static so your target is always at the same place all the time but you can get different size targets to help you with practice. read more

The range itself is very poorly maintained...don't even think about going there if it has rained recently unless you take rubber boots to slog through the mud. The bullet hole is an excellent well run establishment. Safety is first with all firearms and they place a strong emphasis on it. I experienced the pistol bay, 50yd rifle range and also the private bay. All in which I am very pleased with their professional standards and guidance. In the private bay you are allowed to fire both pistol, or rifles and you are free to practice the "mad minute" or Target Identifying. In the Pistol bay your rate of fire is up to you. On the rifle range the rule is 4 seconds per shot. I hope to see some of you guys out there practicing! My return to my favorite hobby of shooting. This time my entire day consisted of a private bay rental which unfortunately has seen a price increase now to $17.50 per person. The bay itself consisted of a patio cover with a table with chairs to allow yourself to refit your weapons. The maximum allotted time in a private bay is two hours to shoot. In the private bay you are the range/safety officer, so it's imperative that everyone is careful. I had an excellent and good training. Hope to see you guys out there to shoot! read more

Went here to shoot and it wasn't until I was 45 min in and some cross eyed RSO walks over to me and demands I show him my tax stamps so he can match my S# up to my paperwork and that I was supposed to check them in at the office. That "policy" isnt posted anywhere and of the dozen or so times Ive been there, shooting with NFA items, no one has ever said a word to me. Its +100f and the last thing I am going to do is hand over TAX documents to some nobody minimum wage range babysitter, especially when that policy isn't written anywhere. He kept getting snotty with me and told me to leave the range. I tell the front desk to keep my membershit card because I refuse to do business with a company that harasses members over tax paperwork. If they could produce an ATF agent, by all means, Ill show them what I need to for them to fk off. If they could produce a friggin IRS agent, being a TAX stamp is TAX information, Id laugh yet still produce my paperwork so they can fk off (even if thats not a legitimate request from them). But some fudd RSO? Kick rocks, neckbeard. I really try to support gun ranges, especially ones that are going to inevitably be forced out of the area by land developers, but I refuse to support some bs like that. Good prices for a individual bay but incredibly rude employees, offering no assistance to new customers. I also jog pass elementary down the road and can hear the crackling of gunfire from the school parking lot which is sad--must be terrifying for children walking between buildings. read more

Have been here twice. No issues with the staff, and the range safety guys are pretty professional. I messed up and missed the sign that dates no rifles under 10", and and I began to sight my 9" pistol with arm brace at the 50yd range, the Range Safety guy immediately corrected me in a professional manner. No issues continued to shoot my other rifle that I brought. Other than that the staff was and has been super helpful. Definitely recommend this place. read more

I have been coming here since 2001. Seen a LOT of changes, but I'm happy to still call this place MY range. You don't have to pay per gun, or buy their ammo. Range fee and private bays are all but fair prices. Certainly nothing to scoff at. Staff is helpful when needed, which is rare on my occasions. Make sure you wear proper footwear. It can get muddy, dusty, etc. Moose got my SIG 556R up and running by giving me suggestions, and lubing the feed ramp. Very helpful guy, and extremely friendly. He's the Santa Claus of the Bullet Hole. Sometimes the staff may sound like they're yelling at people, or disrespecting them, but they're not. People need to take into consideration that they deal with A LOT ignorant people on a daily basis who don't know the proper gun handling, etc.. and that can be extremely dangerous for everyone. Rude condescending staff starts at the top, the owner. DO NOT EVER BUY A "GIFT CERTIFICATE" FROM HERE. YOU SHOULD NOT SUPPORT SHADY PEOPLE. The gift certificates are not worth the paper they are printed on with faded ink and tiny terms and conditions. The owner says that her people are not rude because she asked them, and she is just as rude and condescending. My father purchased a certificate for my wife, and two sister in laws so they would take their CHL Course together. My wife and I live out of town and when it came time to use the certificate, we forgot to bring the blurry (old print cartridge I guess) certificate where the terms and conditions were barely legible. My wife paid for the $50 course out of pocket because even though they keep the certificate number, amount and name in a book, which they admitted they could see she had a $50 credit, and the certificate number was sequential to the other two certificates with the same last name, they wouldn't let her use it! The manager was rude, and unwilling to escalate the issue to the owner when asked to speak to her, two different occasions. Fast forward over a year, I called one last time and asked to speak with the owner and I am told that she hardly comes in, most likely won't return my call, and definitely won't unless I tell them what it is in regards to. I said I wanted to try one last time to correct an issue before leaving negative reviews about our experience. She called today (06/29/19), and after looking into it was snarky saying that it couldn't have been her manager that was rude, because "he says he wasn't". She then mentioned that the gift certificate is now expired (illegal by the way in the state of Texas). She said that I could have store credit (remember I live out of town) and can use the $50 to go shoot or buy ammo... Her offer wasn't bad, but I had already spent $50 at her store when they knew we had a credit, and there is a slim chance that I will ever be back in San Antonio on that side of town to use it. She admitted that there was no additional information on the certificate that was needed to use it, and that no one can use a certificate that is already marked as used in their book. Ok, I have been to multiple gun ranges in multiple states. I've been to some that were much nicer but much more structured with rules and regulations. This is a wide open, no-frills range, and there's some value in that - being easy to use and not hassled by range safety officers. I've been here 4 times and the first 3 times a safety officer never stopped by, although they were walking around. Yes, the gentlemen at the door is obstinate and lacks customer service skills, but I can put up with that if a receive a good product. What I can't deal with is ignorance. The last time out, the range safety officer was immediately on scene to lecture everyone on safety rules - ok, I get it and I'm ok with that. He left, but promptly came back a second time to critique shooters who were loading and handling their weapons in what he considered a improper manner (like holding the barrel a little too high down range while they charged a round into the chamber) - ok, I get that he's a stickler for safety. Although I hadn't even picked up my rifle yet it was obvious that he was frustrating the patrons who were just there to shoot. Then he left for a bit and came back again, only to tell us that we would all have to wear our face masks outdoors on the range. Why didn't he tell us that the first 2 times. No one had mentioned it the last 3 trips either - we are outdoors after all (I'd understand if it was an indoor range). This is where the ignorance showed up. He told us that if we didn't wear our masks the city would close them down. Now I'm a critical infrastructure worker, and I know what the city and state executive orders are for face masks. I told him that he was mistaken about the city shutting them down and that there was no order requiring use of masks outdoors if we maintained distancing. He said we would be fined by the Bexar County Sheriff for non-compliance and escorted off the property. Again, I told him that he was incorrect, although you can be fined for noncompliance on second and subsequent events, but we were in compliance according to Gov. Abbott's order. He then said that it was the order of the lady who owns the place. Why lie if it's an owner/establishment rule, unless you don't understand what the state and local orders really are? I would have thought that a gun range would exhibit COVID common sense, but I guess they're Covidiots after all. read more

I've been coming to the Bullet Hole for 14 years. These folks run a successful business. They are helpful all the time. If they are cut, dry and to the point, I'm absolutely ok with it. They need to remain vigilant at all times. They are Pro 2A obviously. If you have special items that need documentation every time you have them, be prepared to show it. Take the surprise out of having a random officer show up without the management knowing some NFA items are on their range. Deal with it. They handle 95% of my transfers and have for 14 years. I've been to a LOT of different shooting ranges and this one is by far one of the best I've been to. The staff at most shooting ranges are pretty rude and not very nice. But the staff at Bullet Hole is extremely helpful, courteous, funny, and nice. If you're a beginner, they will often give you tips on how to improve you aim. One staff member was even nice enough to let us shoot her wide range of different pistols for free. They have a pistol/shotgun range at 10,15, and 25 yards, rifle ranges at 50 and 100 yards, private ranges, and steel ranges. They also have a wide variety of guns to rent and offer CHL training classes. With a membership (which is 3 dollars), you only pay an $8.50 range fee every visit with free goggles, headphones, and targets. read more

Came here with friends while visiting San Antonio. You get what you pay for ($10 bucks to shoot for the day + $5 ID card fee the first time you go). They didnt seem to want to waive the ID card fee even though we knew we'd never be back. Pistol range is all open, little too cozy/hot metal flying at you when you're all bunched up. But it is covered which is nice. Kinda run down rifle ranges but they get the job done. FYI, you can only shoot slugs on the shotgun range. read more

Recently went here with a couple of friends to try out shooting a gun (I was an archer at some point in my life, so thought it would be interesting to compare sports). I went with folks who had gone before, so I'm not able to talk about the service/instruction at the range beyond us renting our equipment. The Venue: A little out of the way from the hustle and bustle of the city, but easily accessible. When you're driving, be sure to keep your eyes out for Grosenbacher Rd - there's a small sign for it, so it's easy to miss. I haven't been to many gun ranges, but Bullet Hole was utilitarian - it had what it needed. I only went to one of the ranges, but from what I could see, the ranges were well constructed to prevent wayward bullets from straying. For those who have seen your friends shoot in facilities with individual corridors, this is NOT the same. For the close range firearms, it's an open range style, which means that potentially more people can be accommodated in the area. With regards to safety, there are plenty of signs posted to tell you what you can and cannot do, but in case you're there by yourself, make sure you talk to the range master to make sure you know when you can and cannot be at the line to shoot. As a person who has managed a range before, it made me slightly nervous that there wasn't more oversight, but hopefully 18+ y/o's will have more common sense. Parking: they have a dirt lot that you can park in, and if that fills up, there's parking along the road, too, so don't worry about having a parking issue. Pricing: I don't have anything to compare to, but be prepared to spend money on getting a license, using the range (a daily fee), renting a gun, and purchasing bullets. The real stickler to me was purchasing the bullets (about $18 a pack). For three of us, we spent roughly $180 for two handguns, three packs of bullets, licenses, and daily range fee. We also spent $30 /person to try out a machine gun. Service: The staff was friendly, can't complain. I went on a day where there was a huge influx of people, which their front desk isn't equipped to handle (so we stood in line for a while), but from what I heard from the regulars is that there usually isn't much of a line. OH MY GOD this place is scary; you're shoved in this one shooting area like cattle - I did not feel safe at all. Now, if you want a private target you can reserve one or just wait 2+ hrs (esp. on weekends). I will NOT go back unless we reserve something private. I was getting pelted with shells from my neighbors, beyond annoying and it freaking hurt. The check-in desk/cashier area is smaller than a closet. How is it possible that a place serving more maybe 100 people can only fit 5 in the front "store"?! You can bring your own ammo which is a bonus, they have ear & eye protection (cheaper to bring your own and sunglasses are approved). You can also rent a gun but they looked like my dogs chewed on them :-(. You shoot for 15 minutes at a time. I was over it after 15 minutes but we stayed for 2 hrs; the price is super cheap so I mean, you get what you pay for. I recommend bringing extra target stickers - their targets are white and very difficult to see where you shot. This was my first open range experience and now I am completely turned off of the idea for ever going back to one. read more

I left after paying for myself and two children 75 dollars. Finally made it out to the Bullet Hole after all the wet weather we've had lately. Today was my first visit. Arrived at 10:30AM and practically had the range to myself, since this place gets really busy on weekends and the latter part of the day. I took my new AR15 and about 100 rounds of ammo to break her in. The employee who greeted me was very friendly and helpful to this first-timer. He cheerfully answered my questions and gave directions so that I could navigate my way around the range. I rented a Pvt Bay, which was $15 for 2 hrs. The Pvt Bay is a 25 yard section of the range, which is partitioned off from several other Pvt Bays. It has a picnic table for placing your equipment and to shoot from. There's a nice large shelter overhead to protect you from the bright sun. The Bay itself is very clean, except for the brass on the ground which is to be expected. They allow you to bring your own targets. There are two separate wires going across the width of the bay so that you can attach your own targets. The range has targets or you can bring your own. I really enjoyed using a Pvt Bay and felt that it was well worth the $15 rental fee. If you want to shoot from the regular range firing line, it's $10 with no time limit. FYI, there's also a one time $5 Range License fee. You get a laminated membership card which you present during future visits. I also liked the fact that I can drive around the perimeter of the range and park within a few feet of the Pvt Bays. No long walks, lugging shooting equipment. I'd highly recommend the Bullet Hole if you want to spend some quiet time enjoying your weapons for target practice, shooting zombie targets or just plain old plinking. read more

I was literally eating the dirt flying around and the targets wouldn't stay in place from the strong winds. I have used this range personally and as an instructor for over 10 years. Recently, the customer service has gone downhill. I can't reserve a private bay during the week anymore. Doesn't make sense, but I could live with it. But now, I can't even show up and get on a waiting list if the bays are full? I do miss the good ol' days at the Bullet Hole. I took my initial and 2 renewal CHL classes here. This last class July 2013 was overbooked. They had to break the class into three groups for the range certification, so it threw off the classroom time. We spent several hours doing basically nothing and then the instructor stopped when the class was just supposed to be over to have a representative from TexasLegalShield come to sell us their services. When several members of the class voiced their preference of finishing the coursework and exam, the instructor Michele Hester was dismissive and belittling. If they had capped the class and or had better time management the class could have finished on time with the sales pitch, but I left with a very sour taste in my mouth. You have to stay for 5 hours, at least they can be informative and somewhat comfortable. I will not be taking my next renewal here! read more

Don't bother getting the group on. Went in with my family with a shooting package for 4. They proceed to tell me that they're having trouble with Groupon. I still paid to go shooting with the package deal. Groupon deal $65. bullet hole charged me $156. They charged me almost $40 a box of ammo for 380 rounds. 2 boxes=$80.
