As an anniversary present, my partner kindly treated me to what became the best haircut of my life. Frustrated with my complaining about stylists I had previously visited, how they destroyed my hair, my partner did her research and decided to surprise me with a visit to Bumble and bumble. I have been, I think, to six salons in NYC, and a few in Atlanta, and sat under numerous stylist at many of those. Each time I was hopeful but ultimately unimpressed and, sometimes, embarrassed. It seems many of my previous "stylists" have a "one process, one product" understanding of their craft; this does not work. Given my time-consuming academic schedule, my partner was forced to make a last minute appointment. She contacted Bumble and bumble and spoke with Wren, one of the stylists. Wren's schedule was full but, after my partner explained my schedule, Wren unhesitatingly agreed to make an after-hours appointment for the following evening. So a little about Wren. Wren, as is obvious by her product and process, is a master of her craft. As she works, it will be clear that this is so. Wren took extreme care to make sure she understood exactly what I wanted and repeatedly, during the cut, took care to make sure I was comfortable with what she had done to that point. Wren is a master with the razor and used it most of the time. However, when needed, she was able and did use other tools to provide an amazing haircut; Wren is skilled in more than one tool. Wren is a fantastic stylist and has me as a customer as long as I live in NYC. I was ecstatic with her work and have received many complements. Thank you Wren! read more

Pricey, but the best service and staff! You also get a gorgeous view from the waiting area and while you get your herr did with the floor to ceiling windows. I never took advantage, but apparently you get complimentary beverages from their little cafe. The staff upfront are so friendly and helpful (Owen was the one who recommended me to Nico, which couldn't have been better). Nico is the amazing: no bs convos, knows his stuff (he teaches and does fashion shows and editorials), so nice, adorable and will take the time to make sure everything is perfect. My Asian hair is difficult to work with, but he managed to create some sick styles that really worked with it. I also recommended a girl friend of mine to Colin (because he is unbelievably hot) and she was in love with him and the whole experience. So if you can't get Nico, go for Colin I guess :) Also, refer a friend and both you and he/she get $35 off the next cut! holla. read more

I should have written this review earlier, but I'm writing it now. Rogan is amazing. I went to him for 4 years while living in NY. He always consulted w/ me prior to every haircut, was professional and I always left wanting to "take my hair out". The space itself is beautiful, cuts are a little pricey, but let's face it, you get what you pay for. I write this after getting the worst haircut in Chicago at a "top salon". I left in tears. If I can find my way back to Rogan, I'll have him fix it and beg for his forgiveness. read more

I'm honestly confused by the negative reviews. The staff were incredibly attentive and kind. They got my mother and me cookies and diet cokes while we waited, and continued to do so during our appointment. The salon is beautiful and spacious. Everyone we spoke to was very friendly and professional. We were only waiting for about five minutes before they came out for us, and i think that was our actual appointment time anyway. Yes, it was very expensive. And yes, it took a while. But my hair has never looked better. Totally worth it. Ask for Amelia (for color) and William (for cut.) He did a fantastic razor cut on my long hair, and I was really not expecting to be into that, since I usually see them look choppy and terrible and result in split ends. His haircut was like the opposite of that. He checked the length with me several times to make sure it was okay -- cut off a swatch from the back and confirmed with me that this was the length I was prepared to lose. It's beautiful and exactly what I wanted. Amelia's balayage highlights look beautiful and natural, and were exactly what I asked for. They made me look like Scarlett Johansson in the 2014 Vanity Fair photoshoot, and I so did not go in looking like that. read more

Well first off allow me to explain that I hate haircuts. I have thick, course, wavy hair and have always left salons feeling almost insulted. That being said I started getting my hair cut by Evanie 9 months ago and I love my hair! I will admit the first time he cut it I had that awkward moment where I was like, "oh...I thought I looked good before...so many years I've wasted" *a somber violin plays in the background*. You really get what you paid for with Evanie. As I got to know him he told me he studied at Sassoon and was with them before jumping ship to bumble and it SHOWS. I am a punk rock kind of guy and I like my hair to be very sharp. Last time he cut it I asked him to cut a lot of it off and just give me a new look. Needless to say I love my new haircut. He was very considerate of my modeling career and made sure to give me a style I could still do a lot with. Also the decor and open floor plan is really nice. The two ladies at the front desk are really sweet and always remember me. I also really enjoy all of the bumble products and always take home a new one. SPRAY CHALK is awesome for anyone who used to be a punk kid and wants crazy colored hair for one day without the commitment. If you've ever been to their midtown location, then you will notice that their Meatpacking location has a more industrial feel. The location seems pretty modest; you walk into a building that is obviously a shared space with other companies and take the elevator up to a large open floor plan that resembles a warehouse and is *very* "Meatpacking." The views of the Hudson River from the waiting room are sensational and like their midtown location, they offer you the option of free beverages while you wait. I had my appointment with Rogan, who was totally awesome and really easy on the eyes. He didn't do anything drastic to my hair, but I think that's because I didn't ask him to. He basically delivered exactly what he promised to do - trim the dead ends and add some layers to give my hair more movement. I know that $90 for a haircut is a little pricey, but I think it's worth the compliments. read more

Okay - so I'm sure that Karla thinks I'm a bit unhinged as A. my last haircut (with another salon) gave me a pseudo-mullet B. I haven't received a "good" haircut since moving to NYC last July and C. my hair grows soooo slowly. So I was a little over-the-top with talking about what I wanted. But Karla was so cool about it. We sat down before she did anything and we talked about what had happened (trauma!) and what I wanted to do. She told me exactly what she was going to do and did it. But not before I had the best shampoo ever. Even as she cut my hair, she talked through what she was doing and as she styled it, she told me how I could recreate the look. Excellent. I have straight/wavy thick hair--Highly recommend Denise and Andrew. Fantastic people who are talented at finding what looks good on you + what matches your style and taste. I remember once Andrew had me get out of the chair so I could flip my hair upside down, just to get the blow dry right. I have never left disappointed! Always love my cuts and the service. I normally get my hair cut by Andrew who has managed to add movement and volume to my otherwise flat and straight hair. Today I got a cut by Denise because I wanted to try bangs (peep her insta for her work and inspiration). 10/10 Like others mentioned, the salon has a bunch of drinks for you and a coat check. They often run promos on their products and the stylists will recommend which BB products are best for your look. read more

I love this place, but being im in central Jersey I dont go too often. Besides my new spot is De Jensen Salon in Jerz which is equally great as its trained by Bumble and Bumble too. But I would say the colorists at Bumble are pretty good but not super. I want to get celebrity quality care and am not sure where to go for not wayyy too much. I mean if I color my hair I want the brown to be fantastic brown color, u know? As for haircuts I say they are fantastic! Roy isa cutie patootie that can cut great! I love the views of downtown from the salon and love the total ambiance. But yeah, I understand a comp tea or coffee would do with the amount you pay. Other than that, the views and ambiance and quality are worth it to me when I do go that way. It's my sassy spot. But Im lookin for even more if anyone knows, quality extreme...? read more

I did the Bumble & Bumble model project here. For me, it wasn't as bad as some people on here are claiming. You have to show up at a certain time (tons of girls showing up for this), a few people look over your hair and then another makes an appointment for you to get your hair cut, if they can use your texture of hair. For me, it was a great deal because I was in school......FREE!! I have to admit though, I have long hair so I was always getting the "same" scissor cut with long layers. Eventually, you'll want some variety. They also just added (a few months ago) their color classes where you get this sweet gloss at the end which is a really nice touch. The color was actually REALLY AMAZING. I went from blond to brunette and LOVED it! I also did the styling and got $10 off products, I think it is. Every style came out different even if it was the same type of styling. I always had a different look and I learned a few cool techniques for my hair type. Do I recommend it? Sure, it's free and the stylists who style your hair, cut it or color it have all been nice, great deals on products if you're a member of their frequent styles club (is that the name?) Two cons: As others have said the sort of "high pressure" to buy their products! Bumble & Bumble makes great products, IMO. But they should tone it down a bit. Lastly, they GOB and I mean, GOB on the styling products when your hair is wet. Example A: When you are getting your hair cut, in between cuts, instead of wetting it with water, they will use their "prep" spray and a TON of it. I'm sure many models have complained about this. Too much product on the hair, it didn't even feel natural sometimes. Overall, still a great place in the big apple to get your style on~!! read more

I go here for my haircut with Francesca who is amazing. I always used to get haircuts in which the shape did not last long. Until I met Francesca. Miraculously my hair always looks fresh and we've managed to keep it long which was a goal of mine. Since I use a flatiron, curling iron, and color my hair, having it long and healthy had always been a challenge. The place is really nice too, with an amazing view of Manhattan. read more

Although the outcome of my haircut didn't look much different than the one I walked in with.. just a bit more cleaned up - I love the 'assistants' and the way the salon is set up. You get a 'complimentary' beverage from the cafe.. I love the view from the building and all the stylists are fashionable and fun. Some are a bit snotty but you'll run into that anywhere, anyway. It was a bit crowded while getting my haircut but it was free - not part of the model project - so no big complaints. The assistants are amazing.. I can't say that enough. Is it worth the money? It's up to you. If you want your same haircut but just 'shaped' and cleaned up.. then yes. But I would go to a hipper independent salon for something out of the ordinary. .. but i still love b&b products! read more

I recently moved to New York and left my long-time stylist back in Boston. I've heard great things about bumble and bumble and decided to check it out since I was in desperate need of a haircut. I made an appointment with Katharine and I was not at all disappointed. She did a fantastic job, and she thinned out my otherwise very thick hair with a razor that was a little scary to watch (since I'm stupidly overprotective of my long hair). She was quick, too, and had me in and out in under an hour. The bumble downtown salon itself is also amazing. The space is huge, and the floor to ceiling windows give a great view of the skyline. They even have a complimentary coffee/tea bar while you're waiting. I think I've found my new go-to place! read more

HAIRCUT: Wren. She is inventive, pleasant, and truly has never given me a bad cut. She takes feedback, asks for pictures, and then comes with her own creative ideas and is just SUCH a pleasure. COLOR: Kara Stella. She's a genius. I'm a natural red head, and my hair has gotten more blonde the older I've gotten, which I hate. She has colored my hair so many different shades of red, and they are all amazing and natural looking next to my skin. Been a devoted client to Kate S for over 7 years. She's amazing, fast and the best cut I've ever gotten. There have been a tiny handful of times that I go to other stylists due to timing, travel etc. and I have always been so disappointed. Kate is consistently fast and knows exactly what I want every time. Her cuts grow out to be gorgeous and last to the next cut easily. As for the salon, its a nice bright space and clean but a major downgrade from the 8th fl. The new space feels a little more cluttered and there is no cafe and large waiting area anymore (which I loved) but still a decent space. Overall, comment is for the cut. I have 100% loved all my cuts from Kate. Best stylist and would be impossible to replace. read more

I came here to fix a color issue at another salon. I saw Tzipi because she was rated the best with blonde hair. I am so thankful she was available to see me. At the time of booking, I booked for hair painting, not really knowing that it wouldn't be a possibility due to the condition my hair was in from the other salon. When I met Tzipi, she laid out the facts right away, in a blunt, honest and very much appreciated NY manner. She basically said this was a color correction, painting wasn't possible and she wasn't going to promise miracles but she would work with me. My heart skipped a beat because I hear color correction and I think $$$$$$. But I realized the condition of my hair and just went with it. Well the end result was wonderful. The color is great, not brassy, not clown-like. It's not exactly what I wanted - yet - but I realize this is because of the horrendous condition it was in. Tzipi made miracles and I know after the next visit or 2 I will be at where I want. The best part was that it didn't cost nearly as much as I had imagined it would. This review is about my color experience with Bb - I've never been for a cut, so I won't be reviewing that. :) 1st: MY COLORIST I've been going to Tzipi for almost 2 years now, and I LOVE the way she colors my hair. When I first started seeing her, I had never colored my hair (maybe once in high school) - so of course I was scared. I wanted a change, but a subtle change, so I asked her to give me a nice ombre. It looked incredibly natural and over the next month people were constantly asking "did you do something different? your hair looks really good!" etc... She really knows what she's doing, and she's absolutely delightful. :) About a year later, after having her do my color two times, I told her I wanted to spice it up a little and go a little more edgy and blonde... bring the color gradient up higher. She asked if I was sure, which was very considerate (because sometimes people do get caught up in a moment and try to pull the trigger on a look that maybe isn't really the best for them...) and I told her to go for it. It turned out so beautiful -- very sunkissed and not jarring on any level. Love her! Xoxo 2nd: THE SALON The salon itself is just lovely. Everyone is incredibly nice, and very accommodating... Not to mention the view is a jaw-dropper. There is a nice cafe where you can order drinks/food if you are waiting, and I believe you can order things from there as you are being serviced in the salon, as well. Now that I found B&B I don't think I can ever go to another salon. It's the most beautiful space, with lovely staff, great products and of course coffee and snacks. And I walk out feeling gorgeous and rejuvenated. I highly highly highly recommend Amelia for color and Mischa for cut, but everyone I've seen is terrific. read more

I've seen Sasha a few times for hair painting. I love the facilities and like to arrive early to drink coffee and enjoy the view of downtown. Sasha's really talented, though usually double booked and therefore splitting time between two clients. This isn't ideal, but the color always turns out well. Extremely natural, never overprocessed. The biggest downside is the price. Not cheap. A half-head of hair painting was about $200 with tip. At least I only have to go in every five months or so. read more

I'm giving this place 4 stars because of price and snootiness. I love my stylist here....hands down she is one of the most talented stylists I've had and she's not afraid of anything that isn't just a trim. I trust her enough to take her opinion on what would look best - she's done everything from giving me a faux hawk to a rock star shag. I feel like I could give her any style and she could create it. On the down side I feel very out of place when I go here, mostly because I don't wear designer clothing or speak with an elitist accent. Everyone is usually very nice to me, but I still feel completely out of my element. Sometimes I feel welcomed but pitied, but I usually don't care what people think so it doesn't bother me all that much. I come out with a cool hairdo and that's what matters. It's a beautiful salon with awesome views and I do feel really relaxed when my hair is getting cut, my stylist respects the fact that i don't like to gossip or chit chat and i think that's why we get along so well. Go there with the mindset of it being very "omg! we rent space in the meatpacking district and are still in business" - it's expensive, sorta stuck-up, but somehow makes you feel kinda cool and important. read more

First time at this salon and worth every penny. I highly recommend Elisa! She listed to what I wanted, and walked me through the steps to style my new cut. Which was BEST cut I have gotten in New York. I felt she really took the time with me even though I was her last customer of the day. I participated in the Model Project a few times with mostly good results. I just wanted to comment though, that the stylists that cut your hair in the classes are not Bumble and Bumble stylists, but rather stylists from salons from all around the country, there to learn how to do some trendy, useful cuts and styles. So, basically, your cut can suck, but it's not necessarily Bumble and Bumble's fault. Also, to the girl who got rejected for having really curly hair, they don't accept curly haired models because it requires a whole different technique to cut curly hair and since they are teaching a very general step-by-step cut, it's not fair to the stylist if they have to incorporate curly hair techniques as well. I think they plan to do a curly-hair lesson in the future. Anyway, I know all of this because I decided to go to Bumble and bumble for a haircut when I got sick of bad haircuts at cheaper salons. My stylist is a teacher at the Model Project and she sort of explained all of this stuff to me. But, anyway, I'd definitely recommend this salon and my stylist Marguerite. I think my problem has been that I have had to tell the stylist what I want and, honestly, I don't know what I'm doing or what looks good on me. Marguerite totally understood and explained to me what kind of cut works for my face and my hair, etc. Finally! Anyway, I left with a cool haircut, finally feeling like I got my money's worth. I wasted so much money trying to SAVE money at other places. Both the regular salon experience and the Model Project are great experiences. The only thing I have to say is that it's awkward that they don't explain the robes to you the first time. Are you supposed to take your clothes off? This review is mainly for their amazing products for men's hair! Although I did get a pretty good hair cut here a few years ago, I am mainly a fan of their products. By far, they make the best products for all hair types. Check out their website, which has all styles and tips for men and women hair. I've used their.. * Sumotech (all time favorite, for the matte look) * Sumowax (wet look with hold) * Styling cream (great volume) * Blue tube (forgot the name, great for longer hair, no hold) * Small bronze bottle (for a great, subtle shine, not that boy band shine) * Holding spray (holds well, not sticky, doesn't have a strong smell, looks natural) Again, I cannot express how good their products are. It's not cheap but totally worth it. Try anything and everything, I've been a loyal customer to their products for about 5 years now. Superb!! read more

One of my favorite places to spend an entire day! I usually get color done by Karastella and then a cut by Denise! Its so nice to be pampered - BEST color I have ever gotten and amazing cuts and styling too. The staff is super friendly and the complimentary coffee is also fantastic! They even have Barista's that bring down the drinks while you are in the salon. The view is fantastic - and my husband is always more than happy to come and hang out while I spend the day there. Gives him a nice view, coffee and a chill atmosphere for him to get some work done in the meantime! read more

Long story short, he barely cut anything off even after I told him I wanted more layers and something shoulder length. He spent most of the time trying to curl my hair while in between walking away from me and cutting another person's hair. 150$ later, I'm setting up another hair appointment to get am actual haircut somewhere else. I've been ISO a colorist since I moved to NY about 5 months ago. Three other places that resulted in tears I finally decided to give B&B a try. I called to make an appointment and my phone call went something like: Me: "I have blonde hair and need by roots lifted-- but I don't need ble..." Guy on phone: "Stop right there honey you don't need to say another word-- you need to see Tippi" Well, today I saw Tippi-- and she was great. My color looks quite amazing and everyone there was nice and seemed down to earth. The Pro's: 1. Nice little cafe with complimentary beverages 2. Amazing view from Lobby 3. Tippi! 4. Great wash and condition 5. Tippi "helped" me blow-dry my hair since I didn't want to pay for a blow out...(she did the whole thing) The Con's: 1. I had to sit in the wash chair for a while and that hurt my back but I should have just said something (my fault). 2. You have to pay $45 for a blow out but they will let you blow dry your own hair for free. Price for single process: $120.00 (not too bad) read more

Cafe has amazing baked goods... baked goodies! the chocolate chip cookies are thee most satisfying, perfectly guilty, fantastic delights for chocolate lovers. i had a banana muffin too and it was the best muffin i ever enjoyed. so then a few days later i went back and got the same thing, add a Tropical smoothie (attempt to save the cookie? not for long)! Love being able to come and get away for an hour to have the pros at Bumble and Bumble make me look amazing! Service is so on point and my hair comes out looking phenomenal. My stylist Denise was a total pro and she cuts and styles me to perfection! Oh and I can't forget the most amazing head message durning the shampoo!! After moving to NYC in 1997, I was referred by a friend to a stylist and salon which I continued to use for more than 7 years happily and loyally. The stylist was not Andrean and the salon was not Bumble & Bumble. A hair emergency arose (big job interview) four years ago and my go-to stylist was out of town. My wife suggested I try her stylist at Bumble & Bumble and I have been seeing Andrean there ever since. Recently, a victim of the sinking economy, I was laid off suddenly. The good news is that I managed to line up an interview almost immediately. But, I had a problem: my hair had grown a little too long and shaggy for an important job interview. That's right, Andrean to the rescue again. If I get the job, I know exactly who to thank. Skilled and charming, as long as Andrean remains at Bumble & Bumble, I will remain a customer.
