A friend of mine recommended this place so thought to try it out. We ordered the BBH and pho dac biet to try. The BBH was good and had a lot of flavour, but lacked that spice/ kick that im used to getting- for next time, will try extra chilli oil in it. The pho dac biet was decent, but tasted a bit bland. Both orders had a solid portion to them. The price for these were reasonable and the service was quick. The servers were friendly and they even had utensils for my toddler too. Almost every Viet restaurant in Toronto being named is named after Pho, and Bun Bo Hue is one big exception to this trend, named after their signature dish, Bun Bo Hue. It's extremely popular among Vietnamese people in Toronto, and basically unknown to everyone else. I would highly recommend anyone that likes Pho to give it a try! I can vouch for the authenticity of Bun Bo Hue's signature dish; and its just because it is delicious and savory, and not just because the amount of meats they serve is very generous; it's also because one of the people I went with was from Northern Vietnam, and they said it tastes just like the ones they had back home. What I would give Bun Bo Hue a 5 star for is not just for their Bun Bo Hue though. It would definitely also be for their rice platters and hot sauce selection. The com tam (broken rice) dishes that they serve are perfect, and far better than the com tam I've had at any other Vietnamese restaurant in Toronto. The meat was tender, well seasoned and grilled to perfection. The egg was delicious and runny. The portioning is generous (especially with the meats) and but the amount of rice they give you is enough to actually finish all the food with. That's exceptional because most Viet places give barely enough rice at all. What I loved the most about Bun Bo Hue though is their hot sauces. Unlike basically every Vietnamese restaurant in Toronto, they have more hot sauces than just sriracha. There's actually a selection of three hot sauces available at every table, and I can't give enough compliments to their garlic chili hot sauce in particular. It was actually very spicy, and much more spicy than sriracha; I loved putting it all over my rice dish and taking every bite with the heat and savoriness of the hot sauce. It was just heavenly, and my first time eating com tam with actually good hot sauce! My experience with Bun Bo Hue was irreplacable, and I can see myself coming back many times in the future. Cult classic, "hole in the wall" spot for the best bun bo hue in the GTA (aside from your Vietnamese auntie's house, obviously). This restaurant is found in a nondescript strip mall, and the ambiance is what you would expect given its unassuming location. Service is not spectacular either, and they only take cash, but the food itself is more than enough to redeem the experience. The broth in the restaurant's namesake dish puts others to shame. It has a depth to it that I have yet to find anywhere else, and the complex flavours jive together flawlessly. The bun bo hue comes in 4 sizes from small to extra large, so everyone can have their fill. They don't skimp on toppings, either. Though purists may be put off by the lack of pig feet in the soup, shredded cabbage, bean sprouts, and other fresh herbs are always provided in plentiful quantities. The cha gio (egg rolls) and nem nuong (grilled sausage) are great choices for appetizers. They taste homemade in the best possible way. For consistent quality, you really can't go wrong with this place. One big downside is that it's rather out of the way. (They do takeout, but I'm not sure if they do delivery.) Boyfriend had the Pho Tai Gan Sach which was made with well-done beef, beef tendon and beef tripe. The beef was a little overtenderized and the tripe was cut too thin in my opinion. The soup base was absolutely disappointing! We also ordered a cold Vietnamese filtered coffee with condensed milk. It tasted more like chocolate milk that was doused in condensed milk. No coffee flavour at all! Ordered 1 med Bon Bo Hue. It came within 20 minutes. Although not everyone's dish came at the same time. They came somewhat close together. There was an addition dish of thinly shredded cabbage, lime onions and mint/ herbs to put in the soup. We asked for more herbs. The table was pretty small. The blood pudding was not the freshest and neither was the cuts of meat imo. The quality of the meat was mostly fat. The broth was savoury with a hint of sweetness and spice. Although this place doesn't look like much, it's my favorite spot in Toronto for authentic bun bo hue. You know they specialize in bun bo hue when there store is named after it!! Their broth is consistent every time! It's always full of flavor and just the rIght amount of salty ness and umami! I love how they give you generous amounts of meats as well! read more
