I went to Mix and Mingle: Coffee and Lounge on a Friday night for my cousin's birthday, and overall…read morethe vibe was really nice. First Fridays are clearly a big deal there because the place was packed, the Gogo band was good, and the atmosphere was fun. I ended up sitting at the bar instead of getting a table and ordered a drink for myself, a drink for my cousin, and some shrimp. The food and drinks were actually good, so I can definitely see why people like coming here. What frustrated me was the pricing and gratuity situation. After looking at the menu, I saw it mentioned a 20% gratuity for parties of four or more, so I didn't think that applied to me since I was sitting at the bar with no table. I even asked the waitress if I could order food at the bar and she said yes, but nobody explained there would still be an automatic gratuity added. The drinks were $12 each and the bang bang shrimp were $13, so I was confused when my total came out to almost $50 and not realizing I added additional to the tip. I had to ask for the receipt multiple times before I finally saw the gratuity charge unbeknownst to me. I think the restaurant/menu needs to be a lot more upfront and clear about when gratuity is automatically added... and that's whether it's for First Fridays, live bands, bar service, or anything else. Being surprised by service fees, automatic gratuity or any hidden fee not clearly mentioned, for me, can leave a bad impression even when the food and atmosphere are good. As a small business, there are already stereotypes and complaints people make about hidden fees and pricing, and situations like this unfortunately don't help that narrative. With that said, I still plan to come back because I genuinely enjoyed the music, food, and overall vibe. I just wish the pricing and gratuity policies were communicated more clearly from the beginning... especially in this economy!

I ordered a latte and some beignets for the road with white chocolate sauce, and OMG - so so yummy! I loved my little piece of NOLA in MD. & my next time in the area, I will for sure be returning. This location is super fitting too, with a lot of customers coming with their laptop or workbooks to not only eat and be served, but to use the space for their own personal development.

This review is about service and class and who I will and will not trust to prepare what I consume…read more I ordered a Velvet ice with oat milk. The woman taking my order added "no whip" because she assumed I didn't want dairy at all. When I asked for the whip they, with a nasty attitude, told me I had to pay extra. That didn't make sense to me considering the photo shows whip cream included. They started having a conversation in the back about me for making this simple request pointing out what their menu shows. I then pulled up the menu, waited in line again, and I showed them the menu and the mobile app which both show whip included and which you actually have to deselect it and neither has an additional fee. The woman preparing my order acknowledged that she deselected it on my behalf since I asked for oat milk. At this point - this is absolutely not about the whip cream or the upcharge, it is the abhorrent service, the aggressive demeanor, and the unexplained disdain I was shown when I treated both women with nothing but respect from the moment I walked in to the moment I walked out of the establishment. ATP the woman who took my order saw the issue and was going to resolve it by, of course, adding the included whip cream! However, the manager, DJ returned and interfered refusing to allow her to do so & going on a rant directed at me when I was not at all in communication with her. Then, as she was returning my order (which included a tip btw!!) she proceeded to attempt to insult me by saying, "if you don't have 70 cents to pay for this, just say so." For the record, the tip I left was more than the 70 cents so that obviously did not land well. Throughout this dumbfounding experience, I was standing there, my voice calm, not raised, in a store full of my customers (after I patiently waited in line a second time) at 10 months pregnant. We all have bad days, but on so many levels, this cannot be acceptable at any point. To insult someone to try to win a "debate" over a non-issue in an industry where some of us remember "the customer is always right," is despicable at best. I hope someone finds a training opportunity in this, but I will not return to ever find out.

We were quickly seated and approached by our waitress who also-served as the bartender that afternoon. Because she was genuinely pleasant it made our dining experience inviting. The menu ranged from breakfast biscuits, fried green tomatoes, avocado, toast, etc. so it was hard to determine what to eat, because it was a tossup between cheesecake pancakes and the Biscoff chicken and waffles. Guess who won! With the other combination of soup sandwiches desserts inside you can never go wrong here at milk and honey. This is definitely a land of Milk and Honey! We entered, admired the artwork around the room and were seated immediately to talk further what we liked about it. We were first greeted by our server Tess, who introduced herself & gave us menus. We searched a little, of course hawk-eyed other tables to see what others ordered... and Tess came back a few minutes later to take our drink orders. We got some waters, iced tea, lavender lemonades, and a mimosa flight for the table... but for a Sunday (what I would expect to be a busy day; a day of POST-prep) we received not 1 but 2 dirty glasses that we had to send back. Additionally, it took us over 20 minutes to get not one the flight but the simple nonalcoholic lavender lemonade to the table and was never told what the delay was about. The owner Tiess (I hope I spelled that right) did walk around with a smile, and to greet the table. All tables, and that is always appreciated and noticed by me. We did express to her our concerns and she did ensure us that we'd be taken care of. Tess grabs our orders and later our food comes out. I have been to Milk & Honey before in Bowie, and I say that because I don't remember their menu being so "busy". The grits and fried green tomatoes as an example of said "busy" items. Overall, the food was okay. Their potatoes were overcooked said 1-party, while as previously stated, another party said their grits and the fried green tomatoes were too busy. Not that it was good or bad, just... busy. Too much going on. I personally had the whiting and it was the star of the meal. My side of (plain ol) grits came out and I appreciated them being plain....they were just cold. So... 3 it is. Last few things : 1. Please note that there is a 1.5hour wait time. 2. There is a dj. 3. There is outside covered seating available, overlooking part of the upcoming surrounding shopping center and parking lot. 4. An 18% gratuity is entered for orders over $150.
