Fantastic meal. I went here today with my husband and his grandmother. I had the short ribs, he had the lamb, and she had the fried chicken. I would have licked my plate if it wasn't frowned upon in public. It's my new go-to meal for Bungalow 44. Finished with the chocolate mousse and sticky toffee pudding. The chocolate mouse was very good. The sticky toffee pudding was honestly one of the best desserts I've ever had. 10/10. read more

What a gem. Bungalow 44 is so cute! Maybe it's the Christmas decorations. The outdoor seating is warming and actually warm with all the heat lamps. I love it. The food was good. My friends order 3 appetizers and 5 entrees for 4 people. My favorite was the hamachi poppers. Wooooahhh I can have an order myself. Well each order comes with only 3. Haha! It burst with flavors and texture. I just love it. My favorite item eaten at the restaurant. I really like the mushroom gnocchi. Normally I'm not a huge fan. The cocktails were good too. I've been half a dozen times, and there's always something to enjoy - and to vex. The team behind Bungalow 44 have an apparently insatiable appetite for opening restaurants in Mill Valley, and whilst I don't hold any of them in particularly high regard, a lovely commonality between all of the restaurants in the group, including Bungalow 44, is that they unfailingly recruit and, more importantly, *empower* talented bar staff. Service at the bars is always friendly, the pours are generous, and the cocktails are invariably a delight. This isn't happenstance: the ownership team either has real chops in this area, or delegates it to someone who does. And happily, unlike their other joints, Bungalow 44 has some dishes I've genuinely enjoyed eating. Perhaps the best example is the fried chicken - which is so-so, but elevated enormously by the phenomenal accompanying mashed potato. I sincerely consider it to be second only to Joël Robuchon's, anywhere in the world. Alas, the service here is turgid. During one visit, a member of our party ordered a medium rare steak, only to be served a dense brick of seemingly roasted beef. When he politely showed the waitress and reminded her that he had ordered it medium rare, she - in front of six other people at the table - flatly told him that he was mistaken, and that he had asked for it to be well done. After some back and forth (during which everyone else at the table was exchanging puzzled looks at the open hostility on display), she returned with a better attempt, and threw in a sarcastic jibe for good measure. Not for the first time at a restaurant in the Playa/Buckeye Roadhouse/Corner Bar/Bungalow 44 quadrifecta, I had to be talked out of simply leaving immediately. On another visit, I was served bone marrow without the marrow: a solid piece of bone, overcooked to the point of being impenetrable: the medullary cavity as solid as the bone surrounding it, where instead there ought to be gelatinous oozing marrow. Despite the inarguable evidence in front of her, a waitress squinted at my plate and wondered aloud how she would know if I had simply eaten the marrow, before reluctantly bringing me something Fergus Henderson would recognize as bone marrow. It's so strange. Each time I've been, without fail, I've encountered a member of staff who says something oddly sharp to our party, or their colleague, or another patron. And then each time I've had a good drink, and some decent food, and almost - but not quite - forgotten about the hostility. All of which is a shame, because there are signs of something worthwhile here: the new patio area is much improved, there's a coherence of brand and menu and ambience not seen at other outposts from the same team, and the dishes occasionally impress. My wife and I dined at Bungalow 44 on Monday, September 8, 2025. Our review of this restaurant is a mixed bag of great and disappointing. On the great side, we received excellent service from the maitre d and bar employees. The maitre d was able to seat us on time and changed upon our request, our seating from indoor to the patio. On the disappointing side, we received poor service from our server and the meal (short rib) I ordered was very bland. Our server, a young female with dark hair never introduced herself and was less than helpful when we requested assistance with my wife allergies. The maitre d was the person who took the time with us and helped my wife to make a safe decision regarding her order. Given an almost equal amount of the good and the bad, I rated this restaurant only three stars. read more

Recently hosted a dinner here for clients and colleagues. Start to finish, our server was fantastic! I also thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere. Our group shared food throughout the evening. By far the stars of the night were the hamachi poppers. I'd go back just for them! The group also thoroughly enjoyed the Brussels, flatbread, fried chicken and steak frites. What an incredibly disappointing experience. I used to come here all the time but won't be doing so anymore. Our waiter, was pretty much nonexistent. While not rude, when he did show up he acted like he would rather be anywhere else than were he was. No smile. No, "hi how are you". Just, "do you know what you want to drink?" He was absent most of the evening. I was served the wrong dish, but not only did he never come check on the table to see if everything was alright, but he was nowhere to be seen. To add insult to injury, management adds a "4% "service fee" to bill. First of all, one would actually have to receive service to be charged a fee for, which we clearly didn't. Secondly, if management can't figure out how to properly price its products as presented on the menu in order to turn a profit, please don't insult your customers by sneaking a fee on to the final bill that disingenuously increases ALL of the prices! In the end, you are hurting your service staff as many folks like myself, just take the fee off of any tip. And by the time you do the math it ends up costing the server close to a third of a normal tip. read more

Four of us tried this restaurant, and we all loved it and said we did not eat "one bad thing." I wasn't sure how it was going to be because I saw a lot of four stars, so I thought good but possibly hit and miss. However, everything from the appetizers to the main course was amazing! For appetizers, we had several--cauliflower appetizer, crab cakes, hamachi and flatbread--all amazing! We shared three main courses because we had so many apps--ribeye special (melt in your mouth), fosh--forgetting the name--but it's a white fish like sea bass served over veggies--sooooo good! And then there was the best shrimp and grits ever! Beyond the food, the service was excellent... a rarity these days. the ambience was vibrant and fun, and there were different dining options in the lounge in the high seats by the bar and in the outdoor room. we were in a booth in the main part of the restaurant and it was lovely even though it was by the water stand. If I had to choose again, I might've opted for the outdoor room. It looked bright and fun and was actually covered and not truly outdoors. when you reserve, you get to choose...no bad choices. read more

2.5 Stars $1 oysters. 'nuff said. I love me some oysters, especially at happy hour prices. The Kickin' Chicken, not so much. It was crispy and flavorful only in the skin, dry everywhere else. At $26, you expect something finger licking good...the biscuit that accompanied the chicken was dry as the California drought. Once again, good flavor, but I could only consume a third before it started to feel like I had xerostomia (dental lingo for dry mouth, proud RDH right herr). The mashed potatoes were solid and the highlight of this dish. They were perfectly whipped and seasoned - my only wish was a larger portion. Bae ordered the short rib which absolutely fell apart in tenderness, but was just M-E-H in taste. Neither of these dishes were worth their money and had I known, I would have eaten oysters all night. Thank goodness for my dessert - I say my because bae's beignets weren't anything special. Don't expect the taste of New Orleans in your mouth, but at least they didn't skimp on the portion. The sticky toffee cake was fire and a delectable morsel that I would get again if I ever found myself back at this overpriced joint. Outdoor dining was cute and spacious, but fills up quickly so I recommend a reservation. A few dogs were present, including ours, which added to the vibe. Service was quite slow and our server wasn't the most attentive, but we made it through the dinner. I can finally check this restaurant off my list and stop wondering if it's good. I took the family to Muir Woods for the day. On the way back I checked out Yelp as this place was within shooting distance and bc of the ratings. I'm so glad I did! The chicken is amazing (spicy and not dry)! The ambience is pretty amazing too as the location is in the heart of Mill Valley. The Hummus is tasty as is the Roasted Brussel sprouts. My 4 year old Izzy was able to eat Mac n Cheese while also drawing (restaurant provides crayons for kids). Do come and check it out ! read more

Great ambience and great service! We were seated at the outdoor tent area which had plenty of string lights and very high quality heat lamps. Our server was attentive and friendly. A dish that stood out was the Petrale Sole. Loved the lemongrass coconut sauce that was served with the well cooked fish. 4/5 The beignets were too doughy and not very sweet. Kind of an odd aftertaste to them as well. Appreciated that there were 6 beignets though. Good to share w the table. 2/5 The Kabocha was really disappointing. It was dry and a few were burnt. The flavors also were lacking. 0/5 Steak tartare isn't my thing but I tried it since it was a group appetizer. If you are a fan of steak tartare, it could be worth ordering. Hamachi was delicious! Loved the crispy rice cake and ponzu sauce. Crunchy, soft, and acidic. Perfect bite in one. 5/5 Seared Ahi tuna was good. 4/5 Shrimp n grits: loved the grits but then again I always love grits. It's hard to mess up grits. Sauce was flavorful. I just did not enjoy the experience of picking out shrimp antennae from my mouth when I was eating the grits... 3/5 Brussels sprouts: very flavorful! ate the entire bowl. 5/5 Overall this spot is perfect for an evening out or a celebration dinner but the dishes are a hit or miss here. My partner and I made a last minute reservation on a Saturday evening and was pleasantly satisfied with what we tried. They are currently featuring their Autumn Menu and I highly recommend the rainbow charred carrots, fig bruschetta (specialty item), mahi mahi (specialty item), pork chop, and end the night off with their glorious sticky toffee cake. We also got a side of cornbread, and although delicious, the honey butter could've been salted a bit more as it felt like I was eating a slightly less sweet dessert. That's just my personal preference though. A brief rundown of each item: -Fig Bruschetta: this has a bit of a kick to it!! Loved the fresh fig and the fig jam, this was a truly delicious bite -Rainbow Charred Carrots: this was an amazing fall app to begin our night, very earthy but pairs excellent with the goat cheese and pumpkin seeds and pomegranate -Pork Chop: this tamarind glaze with the butternut squash purse was THE PERFECT fall entree, highly recommend -Mahi Mahi: perfectly flakey, paired with the mango salsa, it was surprisingly refreshing, also there was this very yummy garlic/potato puree on the dish I couldn't quite identify, but delicious nonetheless! -Toffee Cake: who doesn't love a hot & cold situation, amazing palette cleanser In addition to how amazing the food is, we got sat in the outdoor tent and the setting was so lovely. Sparkling lights everywhere! Also, Britney was such an amazing waitress to us, I give all the credit to her on how smooth the night went. Friend found this spot on Yelp and we swung by for drinks. Exceedingly popular-- recommend reservations to ensure a spot. Even with a reservation, we waited 10 mins when some tables were "given away" to "groups who already paid" (???) We eventually were seated at the fire pit. For COVID safety purposes, all staff and patrons must wear masks (unless eating). Did not see any sanitizing between guests (at my seat, I even found a huge dead bug). Outdoor seating area is adorned with twinkling cafe lights and a jungle of plants. Makes for a cozy and intimate setting. Our server was attentive and bubbly, but other staff weren't as courteous. LIL MIZZ FIZZ: Light enough to drink without guilt, but sweet enough to feel like you're not drinking. Basically fruit juice. Instantly a fan MAC N CHEESE: SO tasty. The fried chicken at this place is next level. There isn't a lot of batter used; it's simple and fresh! The mashed potatoes that accompany the chicken are delicious and smooth. My friend tells me the lamb meatballs are good, but not great. He tried my chicken and said, yeah that's definitely better! During Covid times, they offer a convenient and covered car drive through pickup area. We took our food to the nearby plaza and ate on the tables there. Remember to ask for napkins and utensils! An overall excellent New Year's Eve dinner and experience at Bungalow 44! We had later reservations, arrived a bit early, and were happy when the hostess was able to accommodate our early arrival. The 4 course, fixed menu was well priced, with exciting options! We both loved our salads, little gem/blue cheese, and arugula/beet. But what compelled me to write this review was this exquisite dish: gnocchi with chanterelle mushrooms. The gnocchi was tender, the flavor profile was incredible - this is my new favorite dish. I hope they add it to the nightly menu! Also, my filet mignon was excellent and delicious - cooked perfectly, and a nice portion -I had extra to take home. I normally am more interested in what my husband orders, but I honestly didn't have a bite of his, as I was so excited with my dinner! Each time we have come here the food has been excellent. The fall season menu ahi tartare appetizer and main dish filet mignons are the highlights. Avoid the winter menu ahi tartare appetizer (currently served) , while it is decent it comes no where close to the amazing life changing ahi plate available in the fall seasonal menu. Really enjoyed this restaurant. Have heard a lot about it from friends and locals in Marin. Coming in for a Tuesday dinner the patio was almost entirely full and the inside at half to 3/4 capacity. I ordered the gold tequila-mezcal drink, it was excellent over crushed ice with coconut milk and mango. Food was all 5/5 Burger 5/5 (full of flavor, perfectly cooked Medium Rare, awesome burger with a soft poppy-seed bun) Shrimp & Grits 5/5 (fresh shrimp, perfect portion, excellent flavor, not too spicy) Mac & Cheese 5/5 (less rich than I thought it would be for having truffle oil, was nice and not oversalted, bacon was soft and not overbearing in flavor, adding jalapeños was a nice addition) Kid friendly restaurant, prices warrant the quality and ambiance. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Marin. I hosted a private party for 33 guests in the fireplace private room and it was perfect. The service and food is always great! I've had a lot of beef tartare dishes everywhere but theirs is my favorite especially since it's served with a mini grilled cheese. Can't go wrong with their hamachi popper. I'm reasonably well educated in gourmet cooking and find bungalows 44 to be very talented in providing dishes showing off fresh local California cuisine. Dishes are expertly concocted, for example a finely blended carrot mix with a hint of cumin and barely detectable cream, cornbread muffins served with honey spun butter and bits of sweet corn kernels , and short ribs delicately flavored with root beer that fall off the fork with no prodding. Someone in the kitchen at Bungalow 44 clearly has the ability to create dishes that flirt with the potential of michelin one starism without the gaudy excessiveness. Stay the course, the restaurant business can be brutal but an eatery like this should be around for a very long time. read more

My friend, and I went to Bungalow 44 and our bill appeared a bit high. After checking, we were indeed overcharged. No apology was given by the server or manager. In fact when I asked the manager about it, he said he overheard the server apologizing to us, which he had not and then said they would have caught the error at the end of the night. I get that mistakes can be made, he put the order of the ladies next to us on our bill, but what I don't understand is how a business like this can have such poor customer recovery. read more

The burger that was brought to me had a giant bite mark taken out of the burger patty. I informed our server the chef took a giant bite out of my burger patty. The server decided to throw the burger on the grill again to cook it more. When the already eaten burger patty was recooked I had to explain to the server again the burger was eaten by someone else before being served to me. I was finally served a new burger; however I was never compensated for these obvious mishaps from the restaurant. I will never come to this disgusting establishment again.
