After a day at the beach, we were craving oysters. After doing a bit of research, we came across Bungalow in Rockaway. When we arrived, the entrance area looked busy. We gave our name and ended up waiting about 40 minutes, which would've been fine if the overall environment had been more pleasant. We went to the bar while we waited, and the first thing that hit us was a strong smell--not like a seafood restaurant, but more like a dive bar. And speaking of strong, the music was so loud that it was nearly impossible to talk or hear each other. What struck me as odd was that there were several empty tables. Maybe they were holding them for other guests who had checked in, but it didn't seem like the flow was well managed. Another thing I noticed was that all of the staff were white--not a single Latino employee, which stood out, especially considering that restaurants like this typically rely on Latino labor for kitchen and service roles. The service was slow turning tables, partly because they don't use trays to clear tables. Everything was done by hand, which made the process much longer and inefficient. There were no bussers, so servers were stretched thin, and it showed. The food was average at best. We stuck with items from the raw section, which were okay. Even getting a glass of water took a bit of luck. The carrot cake honestly looked like a meatloaf. We were there for nearly two hours including our waiting time, and I couldn't help but notice that one single rag was being used to wipe down all the tables, without any visible disinfectant or sanitizing solution. That's a basic health code issue in any public establishment. The bathroom was filthy--paper on the floor, overflowing trash bins. I didn't see a manager present at any point, which to me was the biggest issue. A place this busy should absolutely have a "managers" on the floor, especially considering the state it was in. I don't usually leave reviews--especially negative ones--but this experience stood out for all the wrong reasons. The place has potential, but they seriously need better leadership, attention to cleanliness, and more thoughtful service. read more

I'm a horrible queens native. I have never been to bungalow! But my parents were throwing us an engagement party at the rockaway hotel so we checked it out for dinner. We got seated right away and started with pretzel bites and calamari. Both were delicious. The pretzel bites are huge so be warned! My fiancé got surf and turf and I got the seafood pasta. We decided to come on a Saturday night. We arrived at 5pm. The host told us it would be about 20-30 minutes. We waited at the bar. I ordered a margarita on the rocks with salt which to my surprise came out of a beer tap. I was impressed. It was the perfect margarita. It wasn't weak nor too strong considering it came out of a beer tap. We also had a pina colada which was great. We stood by the bar and within 10 minutes my phone was buzzing that our table was ready. We sat down the waitress came right over and refilled our drinks. We order the fried calamari with the red sauce and Thai sauce, which was brought on the side. My goodness the Thai sauce was amazing. Nice a sweet with a hint of spice pared perfectly with the fresh fried calamari. We both had the lobster roll special. A splendid hot dog bun with a good size lobster tossed in a chipotle mayonnaise served with lettuce lining the bun with an order of fries. I must say the lobster was fresh, seasoned perfectly with the right amount of chipotle mayonnaise. The waitress took very good care of of while the place was busy. We ate outside which was nice. The tables were clean and the bathrooms were also clean. They had a do but I think it was because of a party. I have to apologize for not posting a picture of the lobster roll. I've been here a few times. The first time was for a private dinner we had reserved a room for for dinner post a wake service across the street. It was buffet style food. Because of the nature of the visit, I didn't take pictures and what I remember, the food was okay. Nothing spectacular. My most recent visit was on a gorgeous day and we were lucky enough to be seated. I took in more of the ambiance than I did the actual food. The service wasn't spectacular but not poor by any means. There was some confusion with servers and dishes which I gave them a pass on considering it was pretty busy. The few girls that came over to our table lacked personality but I'm there to eat and drink, not be entertained so again, a pass. I just think when dealing with the public there should be more warmth or cheeriness, if you will. They don't serve Coca cola was one of our parties drinks so that was disappointing. Fried Chicken Sandwich was okay. Nothing to rave about. Your basic fried chicken sandwich. Surf and Turf. My sister absolutely loves this and since she frequents this place a lot more than I do, this is her staple order. Portions looked to be adequate. I cannot comment on the taste but judging by this dish being her favorite, I'd assume it's pretty good. Signature Burger. What it says. It's a burger. Pretty standard. What a surprise. Delightful lil place over here right by the bridge. Idk what I thought it was but this lil family owned spot got it. Decent food, decent service and its clean and spacious inside. Looks like they got a nice little dock for outdoor seating in the summer and cute seasonal cocktails. I only ordered the mussels which came out in this cute ass pot. It was an appetizer and it was hearty, paired with the marinara man I was about to just take the pot to go and sip the sauce in the car lol just kidding. The salmon looked good. The burger looked juicy. I got house wine I should stop doing that if I don't like house wine but that's my problem. They owner, manager, waiter idk a few folks came in and checked up on us. My friends were complaining about a slow waitress, but I showed up mid dinner and I thought not only was she attentive but the other ppl could see they were unhappy and poured on the charm I mean I felt the love. I have been going to Bungalow for over 10 years. Pre hurricane sandy. Most of those times I was just another intoxicated 20 something year old. But as time went by I and the restaurant have grown. Still a great bar to visit for a night out but also an even GREATER place for dinner or event. The food is delicious, the service is always friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere with the outdoor seating wow. They have brunch, themed nights and holiday events sometimes. I encourage you try one out. If you're stuck on a menu item just get both you won't be disappointed. The lobster roll is one of my favorites and the French onion soup YUM! As for cocktails, try one of the signature ones, I recommend the Huckleberry Lemonade. read more

The vibes here are what you want from a beachfront type bar. Beer menu was on point. Enjoyed the Kona big wave. Some other good choices as well. Food menu was small, but pretty much all that was required. Burgers, sandwiches, apps and a decent array of salads and other entrees. I opted for the burger and was not disappointed. Not the best I've ever had or even close, but a good bar burger at an affordable price. The apps were good. Split some chips and guacamole and calamari with my sister. Both were very well done. Good portions, well prepared. Our server (Brenda I believe her name was) was great, service was quick all around. The place almost seems overstaffed, but I'll tell you that everyone does a good job keeping the place in order, taking plates away and bringing food and drinks out quickly. Bungalow is nestled right under the Toll bridge to enter in and exit out of Rockaway. This is not the best location in regards to parking but hey, that's NYC for you. It's also housed next to Thai Rock. When driving it can be easy to miss. Bungalow would be better suited as a wedding reception hall or night club. Not a restaurant/ bar. This place features an amazing view of the "Sea-nery " of The Rocakways and bridge. It's best feature. I visited last night while on a date and I will warn you that this place isn't ideal for dates. It has all the beautiful charm but it is not an intimate environment and is as loud as a lunch room or City Island to be exact. This place is notorious B.I.G huge but that still won't allow for you to hear your date while dining. The construction of this place is impressive. It lacks character in regards to the interior design however. The music selection was terrible. The furniture we ate on did not match the dining space. The chairs are those used for wedding venues but they were paired with wobbly wooden tables. With so much space this restaurant lacks any real centered theme and is lackluster in its aesthetics. It has so much potential. I was disappointed in the food and cocktails here. The food lacked presentation and there is no quality or decent portions served. My date ordered the Lobster Roll and was ready to get in his car and drive to manhattan in order to be fulfilled. The Thai calamari was tasteless. Our drinks were not good either. It's difficult to find restaurants that feature good vibes, a thrilling ambiance and cuisine and spirits that match that. My time here living in New York has expired Yelpers. I see that the reviews are mixed, so looks like a hit or miss depending on attitude. Luckily my visit was a hit early in the am when they first opened. They take careful precautions by providing disposable menus and masks are required to get in. Seating was under the shade with a beautiful view. My food choice happened to be a really good one- fish sandwich. It was perfectly cooked and tasted delicious, made me want to have a second one. They have a bar the second you walk in (very very loud) and indoor seating as well. (Recommend sitting outside) Sometimes live performers sing there. The best to sit is on the patio/deck there is two separate sections one is closed off during certain seasons I think. But the view is beautiful it's always nice to sit and eat by the water. There is a dock for boats as well. Unto the food tho the fried Calamari (forgot to take a picture) was really good crispy and juicy . The mussels were cooked good but the sauce needed more flavor very bland. The pot pie was absolutely delicious (probably the highlight of my dinner) but the penne vodka was horrible tasted like a fast food restaurant made it. The servers were no where to be found the entire time they even forgot to bring out one of my appetizers I asked three time where it was and they kept saying coming by time I was finished with everything they still didn't bring out I told them to just forget it. If you're a fan of Bar Rescue you know all about this place and how it was destroyed by Hurricane Sandy. After running a half marathon close by I had to drop in to check it out. They did a great job getting it back up and running. Kept many of the things the show redesigned for the place. inside is pretty nice, the staff is friendly, and the beer is cold. Some good frozen drinks too, but don't expect too much booze in them. The view is the star here. Menu is a bit limited but it's decent enough bar food for a lunch on the back deck overlooking the water on a summer day. Mostly a locals crowd, and I feel it's due to the lack of any hotel accommodations anywhere in the area. It's a hike to get here by mass transit. read more

I've been to Bungalow Bar a few times for take out with my boyfriend. My boyfriend comes here specifically for the Chicken Pot Pie. I've tried both the Fish sandwich and Fish and Chips. The Fish and Chips were too greasy. Like greasy as in, I kinda feel like I'm drinking the oil it was fried in. As for the fish sandwich, it was sadly underwhelming. Also, on the menu it states the sandwich comes with chips; these are actual chips and not fries fyi. The food is less than mediocre here, and normally I wouldn't come back, but it weren't for that chicken pot pie. My bf's first time tasting a chicken pot pie was from here, so not really sure how reliable is his judgement of chicken pot pies. This place definitely has the beautiful location and views, the interior is also very comfy (theres an aquarium tank and fireplace), and the bar adds excitement. The bar is cool, they have seasonal drink menus, which is always fun. We tried the Godiva cocktail...that was only made half full. They used to make something like a 'coffee cocktail', which was sadly only on the fall menu. But, despite the views and drinks I wouldn't return. read more

We were also charged $0.5 per item for takeout containers. This hidden charge is not upfront disclosed. Be aware there is no utensils, even for pasta. The staff told us to go to McDonald's to get utensils. We brought this to manger and she did not seem care as they have enough business. Stay away! There are better options there read more

She made sure my family and I were taken care of. The pretzels stick I ordered were buttery and delicious. I love eating at their sister restaurant Margies which has a different type of selection that I love, I wasn't sure of what to order so I ordered the penne ala vodka with out the protein. I visited a few times last summer and once during Christmas to New Year's Day period and enjoyed the food I did get. So far I feel like this will be the place to go this summer. I had some great service this past Sunday from Vincent. Food itself was top notch. The Thai wings were on point , my main meal was Western Omelette which I added sausage as a side made the dish perfect. The rest of my party ordered chips and guacamole and other apps as well. The drinks let us talk about now, They were on point. Frozen Pink Lemonade was great presentation wise and strong enough for myself. I thought would stick with that drink but nope went for Smoke on the Water drink which featured illegal mezcal. Unique drink with an overall great taste. Overall favorites like Jameson and Ginger were enjoyed as well. This might be the spot to go this summer, I look forward to going back already, not just for Brunch. read more

He was funny, charming, hard working, caring, handsome, and most of all professional. He took care of my party and more. Anything we needed, he had a solution for. His work Ethic is the best I've ever experienced in my 58 years of living. It's not my first time at the bungalow bar, but because of that hard working young man, it won't be my last. This has been one of my favorite local spots for the past few years, but I was disappointed recently during my last visit. The pros are definitely the water views... and the drinks are yummy - definitely try the huckleberry lemonade! It's not too sweet and has just enough tartness. The food is pretty good - I really enjoy their fish tacos and calamari. My last visit, however, is making me rethink if and when I'll return. We are still in the middle of a pandemic, but nobody was wearing masks and the bar area was cramped and crowded. Not one of the bartenders was wearing a mask and nobody was ensuring social distancing. (Note: the wait staff was wearing them during dinner). When I first arrived the girls at the front said there was a 50-60 minute wait. It actually took two hours- double what I was told. They made up some lame excuse when I inquired after an hour. When my friends and I were finally seated we noticed that our table was filthy. We notified our waitress who told another staff member. That staff member bypassed our table to a vacant table- when we called her over and asked her nicely to please disinfect our table, we were met with an attitude and she begrudgingly squirt a tiny amount of a solution and did a quick wipe, still leaving crumbs and dirt from prior guests. That is completely unacceptable. The waitress was pretty good, though, and although we were told we could only sit (outdoor tent) for a maximum of an hour, our meal took longer and nobody rushed us out. I really hope those mishaps were just a fluke because I'd hate to cross this off my list of places to return to. read more

I just love Bungalow Bar. They have the most scrumptious and savory meals and simply wonderful drinks. I went here with my Aunt Debra, my mom and my sister Ivy. We got chips for an appetizer with buffalo dip which were indescribable, and for our meals, I got pretzel sticks which were so flavorsome, my aunt got a chicken sandwich which she said was chef's kiss, my sister got pasta, and my mom got a taco.
