We ordered a couple of slices, several beers, and a couple of non-alcoholic drinks. The beer is the reason to come. Every pour was excellent, and that's coming from someone who orders a lot of beer. The pizza was above average. Slices come reheated rather than straight out of the oven, so calibrate expectations accordingly, but they were good and the portions were fine. Not huge, not stingy. The room itself is a pleasure. The lighting is fantastic, warm without being dim, and the space stays comfortable even when it's full. Service was quick and cheery, which is no small feat during a rush. The one knock is price. It runs a little high for what you get. Still four stars, and we'll be back. read more

Love, love, love this spot! It is everything you want for a warm weather patio dinner with friends. Great, shareable food, including the Big Salad (my fav!) and multitude of pizza options. We just tried the seasonal Sunny Honey and I am hoping to get it again once more before it leaves. The self-serve toasted vanilla ice cream is incredible -- make sure to leave room for it! Important to note that you can walk up to the bar just to come to get ice cream...from experience :) They have a wide variety of wine and beers to pick from if that's your thing. This review is for the bagels. I tried the seeded bagel + herb cream cheese and it was the best bagel I've ever had??! This place never misses I swear! The bagel was so perfectly crisp on the outside with a kind of laminated crust & so fluffy on the inside. The herb cream cheese had so much flavor as well & they give you a ton of it. I know it's a brewery, but honestly, the beer menu is kinda small and really wasn't to my taste given so much of it was pale ales. BUT the food is fantastic. We had the bread with nduja butter which was really good - could almost make a whole meal out of it. And we had a soppressata pizza which was great as well. Thin crust in the middle with poofy crust at the end, plenty of toppings. All great. The only other downside is that it's always suuuper busy in there and the restaurant is very tight inside. Love this space! They have fantastic outdoor seating and the indoors feels like I have escaped to california. It's honestly a great space for larger groups for brunch. Our waiter was great and helped us make some good choices. The Chorizo and egg sandwich was a great breakfast sandwich. Not your typical pizza spot I had friends coming into town and we wanted to try something local in the Logan Square/Humboldt park area. They had heard good things about Bungalow by Middle Brow (2840 W. Armitage Ave.), and after seeing their thin crust pizza online, I was definitely interested. First, I love pizza, but I'm a bit particular about cheese. Strong, heavy cheeses aren't really my thing, though I do love a good thin crust. We went on a Wednesday evening, and after not eating all day, I was ready for a great meal. The space is beautiful. Bungalow has both indoor and outdoor seating, and on a warm Chicago evening (high 60s), the vibe was perfect. We arrived around 8 PM and hoped to sit out front, but they had stopped seating there. Still, we were seated in the bungalow area, which was just as nice. Service was a highlight. Our waitress was warm, accommodating, and training someone new, who was also very kind and transparent about being in training, which I appreciated. I also loved that they said "cheers" every time they checked in or dropped something off. Small touch, but it added to the experience. One important note: they only serve their thin crust pizza on Tuesdays. That was honestly the main reason I wanted to come, so it was a bit of a letdown. Also, this isn't a build-your-own pizza place, you're choosing from their curated wood-fired options via QR code. We ordered a few pizzas: a meatball pizza, a mushroom-based pie, and I initially went with a simple cheese pizza with caramelized onions and mushrooms. SHOCKED I have not written a review for one of my favorite north side pizza spots!! Middlebrow goes beyond pizza- their freshly brewed beers and wines are something that make this place so unique. I miss when they used to sell toasts at the farmers market, but I'm sure they've gotten much too big to keep up with that. You can take the loaves of bread to go, which I highly suggest. They freeze well if you don't want to eat the whole loaf in a week (but, I won't judge you if you do). I always love ordering the pizza that is on special, I've had the peach and corn pizza in the summer, and most recently had the corned beef and cabbage pizza this winter. They are all incredible!! The best crust in the city, hands down. I'd start with some bread and either the butter and honey, or jam and cheese. But you can't go wrong with anything. In the summer, definitely check out their great patio! It fills up quickly but so worth it to grab a seat and a beer for some great food and people watching. I had very high expectations coming to this spot as I had read about their mission online - farm to table, local ingredients carefully curated for their menu items. I took a long uber from the heart of downtown to try this spot. i came on a weekday afternoon and loved how the restaurant looked - beautiful high ceilings and lovely natural decor. I got seated and ordered the lunch special - mushroom pizza with the side salad. And I got a slice of their yuzu marinara. I've tried many pizzas before but these were not good at all. Mushroom pizzas- completely black on the bottom, so charred that the pizza tasted so bitter, the mushrooms and cheese were extremely salty Marinara Yuzu - citrus oil and tomato does NOT work. It tasted greasy and salty and left an overly tangy taste Ranch - the waiter asked if i wanted the housemade ranch and I excitedly said yes - huge letdown it was flavorless, overly just tangy and the yogurtesque base tasted gross I did end up getting food poisoning later that day - wasn't sure if it was from this spot but the food definitely didn't leave a good taste in my mouth. Fantastic service and even more fantastic eats! This was our first stop in Chicago and a recommendation from social media that definitely lived up to the hype! The ambiance was warm and inviting and almost feels like you're in a friend's dining room. We got there right at lunch time and were seated right away. We ordered the Baker's lunch--the soppressata pizza and side salad were to die for!! So light and refreshing, yet so filling. The dressing on that salad is one of the best I've had. Upon finding out that it was our first time in Chicago, the owner personally sent us some treats on the menu (the pop tart and pizza dough sandwich) and sent us home with a bottle of house wine and beers. We loved it so much that we went twice during our 36hr Chicago trip! They also have a soft serve ice cream machine that serves spiced vanilla ice cream (comes with your purchase and SO yummy). A heads up the tables are mostly long tables so you will probably be seated by someone at the same table but it is fun! Our reservation was at 8 pm and we were not seated til 8:30. You are not able to sit at the bar because it is reserved so we waited by the hostess. Thankfully our waiter was amazing and everything we ordered came out very quick! It is just wine, beer and a few cocktails on the menu! I got something similar to a sauvy blanc and it was great! To start the marinated olives are amazing. So much flavor and the perfect little snack. We got the salad and this was incredible! Sooo much parm and the dressing was so fresh and very herby. The pizza is unreal. Checked out this popular hipster brewery and cafe. It gets people just as excited for the food. Bungalow is the cafe operated by Middle Brow Brewery. Has quite a few things on tap to get. The food menu is pretty simple with pizzas and pastries. Basically beers are the main thing as expected. It's got a few interesting styles to choose from. They're as much known for the baked goods they make fresh so of course get you some of these. Has a pretty nice patio where the pets can hang. Place can get crowded so you may be at the front waiting. It's about $7 a pint. They like emphasizing how local it is seriously. Best one we had was the Hyper Local Lager. Pretty light but it's refreshing. Most of the menu is pizza. Wanted to get one but these are extremely ass expensive so fuck that. It can never be that good. There were a few things we could munch on such as pastries. It's about $6 for the Buckwheat Pound Cake. This is vegan with rhubarb preserves giving it a sticky sweetness. While sometimes pizza and bread can feel and taste similar when eating them during the same sitting, these two plates were vastly different and complemented each other. This is such a cute spot! Though there is a patio seating area, it is very much so limited as all the tables are fairly close to each other. It is pup friendly and there are a lot of families too. There are a lot of options as the menu offers pizza, sourdough bread, sandwiches, sourdough donuts, etc. They also have their own beer that was super tasty. The menu seems to rotate often based on seasonal offerings. When we went, it was August so a lot of the pizza toppings were fruity and summery. We shared the pork shoulder peach and plum and bacon togarashi pizza. I wasn't too sure about the peach and plum pizza but it was on the sweeter side. The bacon pizza was my personal favorite. The flavors reminded me of a creamy Asian spicy mayo omelette. As for the pizza dough, super thin and crispy and healthy because sourdough! It is on the pricier side though as each pizza is like a personal size and almost $30 each. We ended our meal with the vanilla soft serve which was really delicious and creamy and the sourdough blueberry donut. I've never tried a sourdough donut so I was intrigued. Earthy kale with savory sausage--unexpected but easily the most memorable of the three. I'm someone who usually prefers a pizza loaded with toppings, but these pizzas had a certain charm in their restraint. You taste the dough, the char, the simplicity. Before the pies, we split the Wedge Salad, and I have to say--one of the better versions I've had. Crisp iceberg, thick-cut bacon, plenty of dressing... generous enough to share. Even on a day that was absolutely pouring with the summer thunderstorms, the covered patio was absolutely packed. It was a good thing we made a reservation (a couple weeks in advance actually, since reservations only were available weeks out) and we definitely recommend planning ahead. Otherwise you'll be waiting awhile! We ordered the veggie supreme tavern pizza and it was packed with flavor. It had a kick to it and was very savory. I loved the cracker thin crust. It really was like biting into a crispy cracker. The proportions of cheese and toppings were balanced really well. Two of us shared the pizza and it was more than enough for us both. I was surprised by how few people were sitting and eating in because the space is so nice, especially outside! Our server was awesome. We split a few pastries which were unique and delicious, and the bagels were very unique and fresh! I think this might be the best pizza I've ever had. Tavern Tuesday is the best time to go (if you can get a reservation) because the pizza is made very well! Middlebrow has always been a Logan gem and staple to me! Stopped in last night for dinner and drinks and while there was a wait because we were walk -in and Middlebrow is super busy all the time, the wait was only about 30 mins. During those 30, we went to the new outside bar area that has like games and things, and lots of seating so that was amazing. I had the first of two orange wines out here and the bartender was pretty liberal about tastings of the menu, which was appreciated (and smart!). Anyway once we made it inside, we were seated at the bar, right behind the pizza ovens, which I would recommend to anyone because it's fascinating watching the chefs at work, truly The Bear, but fun! We ordered the Big Salad, which had a distinctive kick to it, but went down so easy and then coupled that the Soppressata and Hot Honey Pizza and the Red Sauce and Yuzu Oil Pizza. Pro-tip: add sausage to the Yuzu pizza, it totally elevated and balanced the flavor profile. Pizzas were crispy in the right places, doughy in the right places, light and perfectly proportioned in ingredients. When Middle Brow first opened, we came in and left confused by the hype. Several years later the consistently positive reviews led us to return and turned our frowns upside down. Now that we've had several dinners under our belt, tried the Beachwater offerings, and their Detroit style residence at Beer Temple - we are big fans. We've eaten at the bar a few times and I think it might be my favorite spot. I'm not one for small talk, but we've had some great convos with the bar staff while enjoying a meal. I liked the thinness of the crust that also had a little bit of crisp to it. However, the edges of the pizza were honestly kind of burnt and I didn't really want to eat all of the black stuff. Also, while I know their pizza dough is sourdough, I felt like it was a bit too sour for me. The corn cacio e pepe had a ton of corn on it (which is great) but I really didn't get much cheese flavor at all. That is so strange because it's a pizza, which generally should have a good amount of cheese! Out of the three pizzas, my favorite was the soppressata + hot honey. I did feel like the prices were okay given the amount of pizza given. Throughout the night, there wasn't really much service, with our waiter coming around once in a while. After finishing the pizzas, my friends ordered some of the charred vanilla soft serve. I got a bite of some, and WOW that was some of the best tasting soft serve I've ever had. So perhaps, come and get soft serve, but not pizza? Seems counterintuitive. I'm ready to deem this the best pizza in Chicago for right now. Sure it's tedious by it only being available on Tuesday & dine in only but that sort of adds to the allure. Things that are rare just seem better because they're not easy accessible & therefore you can't. Get burnout on them. The pizza is probably the thinnest I've ever had but it's honestly a flavor bomb & I enjoyed the sausage which was more akin to ground versus lare lumps of meat. I assume it's this way because their pizza is super thin & couldn't support huge chunks of sausage. My old fashioned was way better than I expected. Good balance of strength amongst flavor.
