zero stars. In my experience they are consistently dishonest. They sold me 100,000 mile tires which are cracked and falling apart after a small fraction of that distance. They tried to sell me a whole new transmission. I had the dealer inspect it and they told me nothing was wrong. I noticed my tire light was on and brought my car to a local gas station. The attendant put air in each tire and I was on my way. However, the tire light was still on and I went to Mavis in Verona. I was immediately greeted by the front desk employees, signed in and Within a few minutes, a technician took my car in to the garage. Good news, there was no damage found, but the tires were all over inflated. He adjusted the pressure and I was on my way within 15 minutes! I do not usually write reviews, but found Mavis' service excellent and recommend this location. read more

So why after spending $700 was my front right tire flat? So this place rotated my tires & put the original flat plugged tire in the front & I bought 2 new tires they put in the back . Generally friendly service and so far it seems the new tires were installed well. However, I think they use a bit too much high pressure sales on "extras"while they have your car (alignments, brakes, etc.). I appreciate noting that some service might be needed but I think customers would prefer a lower pressure approach. If a customer says at the outset not to perform the extra inspections because they have a plan with the dealer for service, in my opinion that should conclude the matter and no follow up phone call is appropriate to push hard for a brake job. But I got that call.... In the same vein I was pressured to give a Google review in front of the staff and before I could inspect my vehicle. Bizarre but I bet people do it. So in sum, nice guys, good work, but some fine tuning of the customer experience would make this place 5 stars. read more

This place is a rip off and not to be trusted. I came in for a basic oil change and they told me that my suspension system was warped and was damaging my brakes and tires. Since I have a regular and reliable auto mechanic for things more serious than an oil change, I brought the care into my mechanic the next day. This is the second time I've used this Mavis location. I was having a problem with noise coming from tires while driving at a higher speed. I had recently had the tires rotated at a dealer, and I was concerned. Although I didn't have an appointment, they put my car right on the lift and quickly determined what the problem was (and it was a notable problem). Considering that it could have been serious, I'm grateful they helped me out so quickly and efficiently. They also noticed a brake light out and took care of that. There's a million places that do brakes, tires, and oil changes, but I wanted to give recognition to this particular Mavis who really helped me out when in need. read more

I thought I might have left the keycard at this business after spending $1200 on tires recently. I called to ask and was greeted by the word "CLOSED!" shouted at me and hung up on. You treat your customers that way? You may be around the block from me and convenient to use, but after being there multiple times and spending thousands of dollars, I guarantee I will never set foot or spend one penny in this place again. I came to Mavis for the first time today and had an extremely pleasant experience. I called at 9AM on a Sunday and asked if they would be able to assist me getting new break pads. I needed my car back the same day, and he assured me they could get the parts and have my car returned before the days end (their storage center is nearby). I figured I would need both front and back, being that it's been a few years and my car has yet to have them replaced. I was assisted my Armstrong, who was absolutely awesome. He was super friendly, professional, helpful, and most importantly, honest! He kept me informed throughout the process and let me know that I thankfully only had to have my front brakes and rotors replaced. Their prices are extremely fair (I would have paid double at BMW), and I got to pick my car up a few hours later, as promised. This place gets a 10/10. Highly recommended. Dropped my car off for a nail in the tire. No sooner had I dropped it off and gotten back to work they called to say it was finished. They pulled the nail and put air in the tires, but because there was no leak to repair, they didn't even charge me. I wasn't getting out of work until after they closed so they left my car where I asked, locked up as requested. Super friendly staff as well. read more

I recently brought my Jeep in for 4 new tires. My ONLY good thing to say is that the work was done quickly and they actually took me a day ahead of my appointment because my tires came in sooner than expected. However, while my car was at Mavis I was called and told my suspension needed to be replaced. I was told that it normally costs around $2600, but they could get it down to $1700 for me. That was my first red flag. I called a local, trusted auto body shop (where I should have taken my car for tires in the first place) and when I explained the situation to the owner, he said, "Let me guess, you went to Mavis. You're at least the 30th person this year who's called me saying you need a new suspension. I guarantee you don't." Lo and behold, I brought my car to that shop today and my suspension is in great condition and absolutely does not need replacement. Mavis clearly tries to scam customers. Additionally, when my tires were replaced and I picked up the car, the Low Tire Pressure indicator came on. I asked the guys in the shop and they said I needed to drive 10 miles until the car reset and it would go off. 80 miles later, it was still on. I brought it back in to check the sensors. I was told that the sensors were all properly indicating that the tires were not low, but that when they replaced the tires they didn't do a TPMS relearn, which is why the sensors were misfiring. I don't understand why this wasn't done when the tires were replaced. The best part was when they told me they wouldn't charge me for the sensor check, AS IF I actually would have paid more for work that should have been done already. I will never, ever do business at this shop again. read more

Made an appointment online for 11AM this past Sunday to get all four tires replaced. I selected the cheapest set that said it was in stock at this location since I am under a tight budget and placed a $25 deposit. I get a call the day before saying the tires were in insisting that I come in that Saturday. I couldn't since I was at an all day event. Sunday rolls around and I come in on time to be told I had to wait an hour and half or so for it to be done. Came back a little later and waited in office area for it to be done. The initial amount I was invoiced online was not honored. Instead they did a bait and switch and installed the second more expensive set of tires and did not tell me beforehand they were doing this. The reason I went to this location instead of the West Orange store is that they had the cheapest tires in stock. I got charged $69.99 instead of the $54.99 per tire. Also tire balancing and wheel alignment are not the same. The online invoice was for the tire balancing only and the wheel alignment was $20 more. I don't mind the wheel alignment since that is very necessary but I wound paying about $100 more than needed to. Not only that to top things off I drove off and while I was shopping I noticed two of the tires did not have the tire air caps on. Furious I had to drive back and made them give me caps. They came across as massive disrespectful jerks to me. Never again I will go to this business franchise. Buyer beware! read more

Pretty much the opposite experience of bringing your car into the old Firestone. My experience getting oil changes on two cars: 1. They tried to upsell me on a synthetic oil for $30 more from the start. 2. Each car, I got a call during the oil change, trying to upsell me for brake flash and steering wheel flush deals. 3. They changed the presets on my radio to country stations...who does that? 4. I paid $40 for an oil change and they didn't even replace the wiper fluid. With all the local auto places in the area with excellent reputations, I'd strongly avoid coming here if you can avoid it. It's so obvious they only want your money. I got my oil changed at this Mavis. A couple weeks later I noticed a leak in my driveway. Took it to my mechanic and he said they put the wrong screw with NO BOLT. Could have destroyed the car. Will not be going back. read more

I've stopped by twice... once looking for a new spare tire and once with a flat tire. Both times, the staff was very friendly and willing to discuss possible solutions, even if those solutions didn't involve service from Mavis (I had to go to the dealer to track down the right spare). As for the flat.... I had the flat repaired a month or two ago, and since then it's had a slow leak. Eric at Mavis quickly diagnosed the problem (it was leaking from the rim). He took the time to explain the problem, taking me into the shop to show me how he diagnosed and fixed the issue. i was out of there in 15-20 minutes, and the tire seems to be good as new! I see they have a couple bad reviews, but I'm definitely going to give these guys a shot. read more

The mechanics do good work and the customer service people on the phone are pleasant. However, they have a major problem with pricing differences. The front desk of the store will give you a higher quote than if you call ahead and they put it in the system. If you ask for a printed quote at drop-off, they will tell you it's only available when you pay. I've had $200 differences in fairly simple quotes. I can see the staff is often irritated by the fluctuations as well. They need a better system. read more

Another great experience at Mavis Discount Tire in Verona, NJ. My son brought in our 2008 Toyota Matrix - that I've handed down to him- to get new tires. We thought all four tires had to be replaced, but the mechanics at Mavis in Verona, NJ told my son only two were needed, and rotated the other two - saving us a few hundred bucks. They also diagnosed a few other issues that we were worried about, and gave us some cost effective solutions. When I picked up my car he told me to put my credit card away and the service was free. I've used this Mavis location several times before snd it has always been a great experience. They ripped me off!!! I just wanted my tire patched up and they gave me a quote for $20...I showed up to pick up my car and the guy named Rich showed me a bolt and said they couldn't get it back into the tire so they charged me$140...then because I flipped out he told me if I opened a credit account he would give me a discount. It cost me $67 !!! That's BS! I make $800 a month on SSI. I will never go back there again! Ever! That bolt was fine I've had several cars before and I know that bolt was fine. I came to Mavis with a nail in my tire after first getting an assessment from Pep Boys down the road. I was told at Pep Boys that the hole was too close to the wall of the wheel and needed to be replaced entirely, for a total of $150. Luckily Mavis Discount Tire took customer satisfaction a bit more seriously. Richard, the attendant, quickly assessed the tire and said he could plug it easily and have me on my way. I was a little apprehensive until the manager, Steve, said Richard has had over 40 years of experience and said the tire plug would be on the house so that I could be on my way quickly. I could see that every mechanic was busy and yet they still were accommodating to my needs. Richard was thorough, very friendly, and quick. His enthusiasm was appreciated and I could tell he was experienced and cared about the customer's needs. I was in and out within 10 minutes of service. It has been two weeks and my tire has had no further issues. Truly outstanding customer service. read more

Just came back from picking up my wife's vehicle. They had called 30 min. prior to inform me that her vehicle's air filters needed to be replaced, her battery had failed testing, and that her brake fluid needed to be flushed because it was dirty. I declined. When we arrived 30 min. later they were just then pulling out her vehicle. The gentleman at the desk showed me the printout for the battery claiming that it was bad. If it was that bad the vehicle would have trouble starting. I then asked where the test strip was for the brake fluid. He responded by telling me that they go by millage. I informed him that I had been told that it was dirty and that another Mavis location had tried to sell a brake flush with the same claim about it (which I also declined). After inspecting my wife's vehicle I found that the only thing that they had claimed that need to be changed was the cabin air filter. As someone who used to work in a garage and later in tire and service sales I consider is stealing when someone tries to sell auto service to a customer who's vehicle does not need it. While I'm glad I can save my wife from thieves like this, I wonder how many other people they have stolen from. Selling people things that their vehicle does not need is the equivalent to stealing. read more

This Mavis recently replaced my longtime mechanic, who I gave a 5 star rating. My first experience here was not a good one. I called ahead to make sure they had my specific tire in stock. I dropped my car off and walked home only to get a call from Jim saying that they just put the tire I needed on another car right before mine. I'm very skeptical of this story especially when he offered me a comparable replacement tire. In the 18 years that I dealt with the previous mechanic here, I was never inconvenienced like I have been on my very first visit to the new establishment. To make matters worse, Jim told me that no other local Mavis store had the tire and I just found out the the North Caldwell location does. Update: I told Jim about the tire in the North Caldwell location and he informed me that he couldn't get the tire. Once I explained that I was fed up, he then got the tire and installed it. Upon checkout, Jim told me that because of the issues he would give me a discount. At this point I was thinking about upgrading to 3 stars..but nooo! His "new" price was more than I was originally quoted by Brian in the call center! He wound up giving me a $3 discount. In hindsight, I should have told him to stick the $3 up his ***! I noticed a nail in my tire so I decided to order new ones, as the ones on the car were down to the wear indicators. After researching via the internet, I determined Mavis had good prices and overall good ratings. Since there is a Mavis within walking distance of my home, the Verona location was my ultimate choice. I read the reviews on their website of all the tires they had available to fit my SUV, and then read reviews on other websites of the same tires I was interested in. I ended up selecting Michelin LTX M/S. They were expensive but they had a $100 instant rebate and the ratings were very good for snow and overall driving. I ordered the tires online and made an appointment for 10 am on a Saturday. I dropped off the car at 10 and at that time also asked for an oil change. Stacy, the person at the desk, couldn't have been any nicer. She was a pleasure to work with. Stacy said it would be about 3 hours or so for the job to be finished. I called at 1 and was told the mechanic was just finishing up on the last wheel. So I waited a few minutes and then walked over to the shop. As I walked in, he was pulling the car out of the garage. Perfect timing. When it came time to pay, there were no surprise charges; the total came to exactly what I had expected. I was pleasantly surprised at the professionalism and friendliness of everyone I spoke to at Mavis. I am very happy with the entire experience and will be going there again in the future. read more

I called for an oil change appointment and to get my fluids checked at 3pm. I requested a 5:15 appointment and he said he could do 5pm, so I took it. I'm sitting in on sons karate class which starts at 3:30 and get a call from the man (David) that I made my appointment with and he asked me if I was coming in. I said yes, at 5pm which is when you made my appointment for. He responded "oh. Ok. See you at 5" Fast forward to 4:55pm when I show up. He tells me he only has one technician and he won't be able to get my car in for 2 hours. To which I reply, "so why did you give me a 5pm appointment??" And he said, "well people just came in..and when they come in...." Moral of the story? He gave my appointment away. I won't be returning to this place nor will I recommend to anyone simply looking for an organized oil change. read more

I was just completely conned by Mavis Discount Tire. Brought my car in for an oil change. Got a call that my battery was putting out less than 50% and I needed rear brakes, pads, and fluid / flush. Totaling over $650. Lucky for me, my cousin is a mechanic so I wanted to see if he could do it for me cheaper. Turns out, my battery is functioning at 98% and my brakes have at least another year on them. DON'T TRUST this place. They only want your money. read more
