We went in as a family of 4 on the fly and the location looked fine so we went in as we were real close by. ( I like to see older people as it indicates the food is good and is reasonably priced) We ordered burgers for the kids and Chicken for me and the wife,1 burger was sent back because of a little pink but no real big deal server took care of it, Wifeys chicken stir fry looked great but chicken was very rubbery,my chicken kebab over pilaf and was rubbery too.....ug. I suspect the chicken dishes were both microwaved,its such a amateur move if your a cook? She and the kids did not finish their plate. Not worth all the hype. I had dinner here Saturday Oct.3rd and was disapointed in my meal from what i had read online. I ordered the Bun Boy Sirloin with sides of Garlic Smashed potatoes and cole slaw as my sides. When my dinner arrived it was luke warm at best. When i tried the potatoes they were cold, and not one hint of garlic could be tasted, and my sirloin was luke warm although tasty. When i asked the waitres for new potatoes the plate she brought them on was warmer than the potatoes themselves! She then brought me a third plate this time it was obvious they had been microwaved. If i wanted a microwave meal i could of stayed home and done dinner for much cheaper. At this point i gave up and just ate my meal. While I'm sure it would have tasted better if it had been serverd when it was ready i won't be going back to this resturant. read more

Three of us Stopped in today for lunch. Had a great lunch. Sirloin with fries,great flavor done just the way I wanted it medium, my daughter had the blackened chicken pasta,excellent! And the ham and swiss on rye was also good. Service was fast and go and Donna was great and told us of the specials and was right on top of things. Buns is a reasonably priced, good food, casual restaurant. Always good service from a very experienced staff. Prime rib is not the best ever, but for the price is very high value. Certainly acceptable Wife enjoys the remainder of the menu (she is less predictable than I). She really enjoys the French-onion soup. For the dollar, a good choice for a casual dinner or lunch. Just left Buns Restaurant. What an awful experience. First they set us at a table that was dirty and had to be cleaned. The waitress didn't know any answers to our questions about the food without asking. I ordered one of the specials. A penne with meatballs. First bite into the meatball and I bit into something hard. Dug it out of my mouth and it was hard as a rock. No idea what it was. Size of a large pit of some sort. Called the waitress over and she said she was sorry and would go "yell" at the kitchen. That was all. She recommended the chicken stir fry so I got that. I ate part of it but it tasted like a frozen meal that had been heated. Some of the veggies were soft and some were hard. Of course my husband was done with his food. Waitress brought the bill with no offer to comp meal. We paid and then when I went to the ladies room (which needed cleaning) my husband spoke to her about it. I am afraid it may have cracked a tooth or lost a filling cause it feels different. Mentioned that to her and all she said was I'm sorry. But if I did they will hear from me again. Such a shame as Bun's used to be a good place. read more

It was clear that the hostess was having a bad night and she apologized, certainly forgivable. We were shown to our table by a nice blonde in different clothes than the rest of the staff, perhaps the manager or owner. Since it was so hot we chose to eat inside. And then we weren't spoken to at all for about fifteen minutes before we decided to leave. My husband and I tried catching the attention of servers who seemed like they were purposefully missing us. I have been a server before, I know it is a rough job, but the dining room wasn't even half full and neither was the patio as we observed when walking up. No drink order, no "I'll be right with you," nothing. I would have complained right there but even as we made our way to the door the three employees leaning on the host station literally didn't look up at us or acknowledge our presence and the blonde was no where in sight. I assure you, we are easy customers, we don't expect much and generally tip very well. I have been to Buns several times over the years. The food and service can be very hit or miss but we like supporting local restaurants and we have had enjoyable meals here. However, this last time really did it for us and I don't think we will come back for a long time. read more

Here now, Friday night 7:55 pm. Where to begin? It's always scary when your server has the "deer in the headlights" look and unfortunately that's what we got. We were meeting friends who were running a bit behind us so we ordered an appetizer and the meals for the kids. Those came out just fine and that's where the good experience ended. We ordered our food about 6:45 and it didn't come out for almost an hour. We were apologized to by the server several times and told that despite the half empty dining room the patio was busy. It wasn't until a party seated after us got their food first that I requested a manager. She came over and asked how everything was. I explained the situation and she went to look into it. When she came back she tried to justify the wait by explaining that the ticket was entered at 7:16 so it didn't really take that long. My reply to that is that we ordered around 6:45 so the breakdown occurred in the half hour that it took to key in the order. The resolution to this? An offer of free deserts. From a managerial standpoint never, EVER try and justify a problem to a customer. Second had the server came and told us that she had simply made a mistake it would not have been as much of an issue. Bottom line... With all the choices in Delaware and the Columbus area as a whole we will not be back. Sorry Bun's but poor service and worse leadership has cost you a customer. read more

After just moving to Delaware, my fiancé and I were very excited to try the local shops downtown. We decided to try Bun's. It has a lot of history and looked like the perfect place to experience our new hometown. The restaurant itself seemed clean and a good spot to be during the summer months. The staff was very friendly and professional. So far so good.... Until our entrées arrived. I ordered fish n chips, not expecting them to be frozen fish patties I can buy at the store. It was literally the worst meal I've had in years. My fiancé got sick from her cheeseburger. Service excruciatingly slow. Food came out in drabs. No bread knife; but, bread was good. No offer of water. Had to ask for more iced tea instead of an attentive waitress automatically filling up the glasses. Burger dry and not good at all. Bun, their signature name, was horrible. One person asked for a fish sandwich and was refused even though they offered a fried fish plate, and the buns were on the chicken and hamburger. Chicken was horrible. Last night was my wife and I's third trip to Buns in three years. After this, if we do go back, it will be for the bar because we really like the outside bar/patio. The first two times we went the food was just o.k. and the prices were reasonable. This time, after we were seated and started looking over the menu, we noticed that the prices had gone up substantially, but they had also added some new items that looked interesting. She had the lobster ravioli and I had the meat lasagna. The lobster ravioli was edible but she only got six ravioli's plus a big pile of spaghetti that was somewhat dry due to not enough alfredo sauce. The meat lasagna was just this side of edible. Along with what appeared to be mozzarella on top, there was also an orange mystery cheese with it. This dish would be best marketed as a pasta casserole as it didn't resemble anything close to lasagna. If I were italian, I might have gone back to the "chef" and back-handed him for calling that lasagna. I give two stars because of the atmosphere, good service, and sweet waitress. The food was one star at best. Too bad because this place could be a gold mine if they focused on putting out good food. read more

Very disappointing! We had heard that this was a decent place to eat and we liked the idea of dining in a historic area. There were 4 in our party who ordered...pot roast, stuffed flounder, lasagne, and a kids meal. The pot roast was pretty good but the fish lacked flavor (very bland) and the lasagne tasted comparable to something out of a can. Neither my wife or teenage daughter ate much of their food. The waitress noticed that both plates had been picked at and quickly made things right by making some adjustments to our bill. She was very nice and friendly. We left and went down the street and found something else to eat. We normally like out of way places like this but will not return to this one. read more

Very disappointing. This has been my worse food experience to date. The waitress was poor - she mentioned that she was new but I felt more and more victimized for her lack of ability and/or training. There were numerous problems but the main one is the food itself. The fish I ordered tasted like it was left out after being cooked and had to be re-heated again. It was horrible - and it came to the table so much later than the side dishes that I ended up eating those side dishes long before the fish came. I have been hesitant to visit buns due to some of the reviews. Well today I decided to try buns with my wife. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the building was very nice. I really liked the bread that was brought to the table. I ordered a salad, fried chicken and smashed potatoes. The salad was brought out with my meal, I would have liked it before. The chicken was hot and fresh, however it was very plain and had no flavor. Possibly some spices and seasoning would have helped. The smashed potatoes had very little flavor also. My wife got the cheese stuffed ravioli and enjoyed it. When finished we asked for a box and the waitress brought a box out. I then waited over 20 minutes for the check. I had to ask the bartender to find our waitress. The waitress was very nice and pleasant possibly just over worked with side jobs like cleaning. I'm not sure I will be back anytime soon when delaware has many other choices read more

It's good if you don't have much money and you still want to go out. The wait staff always gives my son a free cookie. But what really bugs me is that NOTHING is homemade, not even the buns they bring out for pre-meal appetizers - which you have to ask for, by the way. It didn't used to be like that, but for about a year now, if you don't ask for a bread basket they won't give you one or even ask if you'd like one. Cutting corners I guess. My old roommate worked there last year and she said EVERYTHING is store-bought, canned, and/or frozen. I swear every time I go there they're out of chicken tenders for my son, or out of SOMETHING. I know the owner and he can be a real jerk sometimes too, he's the type who wears fancy spaders, drives a super nice convertible, wears his hair slicked back, and goes tanning, all while his business buys cheap, shitty, non-fresh food. Bun's has been possibly the worst dinning experience I've experienced in Delaware. First off the service is terrible the staff looks like current and former drug addicts. My server was rude and short with me when I asked what was good on the menu for my dinner choice. The buns they bring you are like eating a crouton they are hard as a rock and hallow as my servers head. The butter that you are given to compliment such fine bread was frozen and like spreading a ice cube. I ordered the famous Bun burger and I have to say McDonald's no Burger King has better burgers on their dollar menu. My drink was 90% ice with a generous refill one time while I was there. Great burger or meatloaf among other good choices. Ask for extra barbecue sauce with the meatloaf. That makes it even better. The dark portion of the restaurant is a bit gloomy, so I don't recommend that, but the rest of the place is either wonderfully sunny or actually outdoors.
