I'm sad by some of these reviews. Dined here with my fiancé despite some negative reviews because some people really seemed to like it and I want to give anywhere an honest chance. I hardly write reviews but this place was good. I say sad not because our experience was good and other didn't write nice things, but because as I sat outside on the patio or as I walked inside through the huge bar to the restrooms, I saw the potential in this restaurant. It's in an awkward place, and it needs a little tlc, but as a restaurant manager, I can see how hard it might be to put money into a place that doesn't have a ton of money coming in. I have no idea why so many people think that highly of the food here. Don't get me wrong the food was not bad by any means however for the price I expected much better quality. I ordered the medium rare filet mignon and it was definitely overcooked, additionally they over caramelized the top of the crème brulee (nearly burnt). However the service was very entertaining they kept our party of 15 very amused. The entire staff has very thick Italian accents which makes it somewhat difficult to understand at times. Furthermore some of the staff doesn't even speak English that being said I was impressed by the service. They regularly checked in on us and were readily available other than the ones that couldn't speak English. In the end I had a great time but that may have been thanks to the several glasses of wine and martini's. I just wish the food was better read more

Lovely interior... everything else was surprisingly disappointing. The service was polite, but not very good. The place was only about half full and it still took almost ten minutes just to take a drink order. Then almost 15 before drinks arrived, then another 10 before taking any food order at all, taking appetizer and dinner orders at the same time (which was nice after such a long wait, but still). Then at least 20 minutes wait with nothing but the cold and not particularly fresh bread with plain olive oil + pepper shaker and frozen butter packets. If you're going to serve bread at an Italian restaurant, first make sure it's at least warm if not fresh, if you're going to serve oil, season it, and if packets of butter at least let them soften before serving. Then finally food started to come out, but the appetizers came with the meals and there was at least a 5 minutes gap between when the first plate came to the last. Half the food was cold, the ravioli (white bean and lobster) were clearly frozen, both rubbery and bland. The shrimp and scallops were both overcooked. The kids meals of spaghetti and meatball were the best prepared. Not even going to get into desert because if you're still reading this I'm sure you'll find out for yourself... but one last note... those ridiculous prices are clearly intended to be "based on quality" when you see the meager and tasteless portion sizes, but I wouldn't return at half the price. Depressingly, you'd be better off at Olive Garden and I'd never recommend going there. Although, at least the salt sticks, I mean breadsticks, are warm. read more

Quick summary of my review: Food would be 3-4 stars without considering price but 1-2 with the price. Service was 2 stars, atmosphere was 4. I was there with a family gathering on Sunday. We were seated at a table near the window. The place is beautify but out table was a cheap, plastic table with a table cloth (which is why I say atmosphere is only 4 stars). Our server was very nice but surprisingly incompetent. She would regularly completely forget sometime or another (We asked for a drink menu 3 times. She asked for our drink orders only once and that was BEFORE she brought the menus). Also, she just seemed awkward. And a few orders were messed up. Also, it was impossible to get a hold of her. We resorted to all basically waving our hands wildly as she walked across the dining room. She wasn't rude or anything but she was just inattentive. The food. As I said in the summary, without considering the price, I would say it was 3-4 stars but for its cost, it was sub par. The chips they brought out in the beginning were incredibly good. They should have just kept bringing them. Instead, they brought bread that tasted like it was reheated from frozen. It was dense, cold and lacked good texture. The appetizers were actually pretty good except that they messed up a request. My italian-obsessed girlfriend was impressed they had cantaloupe and prosciutto. However, the description said it was wrapped cantaloupe. Nope! Just a plate of sliced prosciutto and a tiny bit of cantaloupe. The dinner was mediocre. I had seafood di mari. The seafood was pretty good but the pasta was way overcooked. My girlfriend's crab pasta tasted like they dumped a whole thing of black pepper into it. I didn't try anybody else's but it sounds like the opinions were about the same. We brought our own cake for dessert (which was very good but they didn't have anything to do with it). Coffee was good but the inattentive service made it hard to get refills. I won't be returning any time soon. Have to say I was kinda disappointed. We arrived at 7pm and it was busy but we were seated in 10 minutes from our already last minute reservation so no complaints there. I cant say the same for the rest if the meal so let me break the dinning experience down. Drinks- The four of us chose no alcohol manly because I was driving and my pregnant wife and my brother and his girlfriend were not staying local after the meal. I for some reason felt like we were judged on this and said so to the table after our drink were ordered.....I may not have been wrong Apps- Calamari- I always try Calamari everywhere. This place was just breaded rings. Could have used some seasoning nothing special-(I am partial to Davids Mai Lai Wah's at 10th&Race. Their salt&pepper squid I grew up on and is the bar setter for me) -Large Seafood harvest- 4 raw claims, 4 raw oysters, nothing bad to say- 2 shrimp for the cocktail- if I knew this I would of ordered more shrimp being 4 of us- four crab claws, ok these were still frozen and too mushy, and not a lot of crab meat. My wife did like that the cocktail sauce which had a nice amount if horseradish. So here is my first issue. Now when we ordered our apps we were told we would order our meals when the apps came out but that did mot happen. We ordered our meals 5-10 minutes after our apps were finished. So seated at 7:15PM and now our meals our out at 8:45PM...btw a table of four seated after us are on deserts at this time. After the long wait Wife had the Tortelloni Grassoccia- She had no complaints. I tried a half of one and the short rib stuffing had good taste. Brothers girl had then NY strip-She was not impressed. Brother had the Filetto DiManzo- he said it was a big 10oz fillet and it was good. So he like it. I had the Veal Chop on the special. It was a bone in veal chop with prosciutto and gorgonzola cheese. It was very tender and good. My wife like it as well. Cannot complain on my meal because it was good. Now as our plates are being cleared we ordered coffees and expressos thinking we would have them with deserts. They have a desert tray that goes around but that didn't come around to us until we already finished our coffee. My pregnant wife was not leaving without chocolate cake so we got some to go. My issues with last night was time management was awful and the hectic dinning arena had no structure. There should be a system on how to keep stuff flowing better. Sitting for almost an hour between app & meal( I think the waiter forgot to take our order) should have been the only mistake. When the customers ask(we asked them)for coffee, use this perfect opportunity to sell deserts and serve both at the same time. If my wife wasn't pregnant we would have not gotten anything else. Also I dont complain about prices but if your gonna raise them your please print new menus Pen over print drives me nuts and looks trashy. I never blame the staff, complain to them or hold back on their tips. I myself being in a management position put all the failures on management. I came with a large group and the attentive servers had no problem keeping up with us as we swapped seats throughout the meal to socialize with each other. The Gazpacho was deliciously refreshing and light. Both the Calamari and Crabcakes had a good flavor without too much filling or breading. My veal entree, Vitello con Funghi Porcini, was really disappointing with the meat being dry and flavorless. I just ate the mushrooms and mashed potatoes (at least those were good!) and then moved on to dessert. The dessert cart is just...incredible. Approximately 15 desserts are wheeled around on a gigantic cart and they all look fantastic. I got the Black Forrest Cake, which was good although it needed more cherries folded in. read more

We took our family here to celebrate our mother's birthday and couldn't have been happier with our decision. The restaurant is spotless. We were very impressed with how knowledgeable our server was as well as how attentive she was. I was also impressed with the team work at this restaurant. We had a few people bring out our food. Oh, the food....probably should have been the first thing I wrote about....nothing short of AMAZING!! The flavors, the spices, they way it all came together on the dish, it was pleasing to the eye and the palate. We ate mostly seafood and everything was very fresh. My wife and I got married in August and we used this restaurant for our wedding reception. We had a small group of 46 and the upstairs had a private area and held up to 55 people so it was absolutely perfect for what we needed. We are so grateful for this restaurant and staff for making our wedding day perfect. The food was sooo good and April was so helpful in meeting with us to help us with exactly how we wanted it. The thing that sold us was the gigantic upstairs private wrap-around-balcony with couches and tables and chairs. We ran a tab of alcohol and the bar tender (I'm sorry I forget his name since it's been awhile) was so likable everyone kept talking about how awesome he was. Everyone was having such an awesome time that we were sad to move to the after party at Magerks down the street so my wife asked if we could stay and keep our tab open. They happily let us stay and run the tab an extra few hours from 8:30-11pm. The staff actually seemed happy to stay even though we had only reserved the room from 5 to 8:30pm. I have had so many of our friends and family tell me that this was the best wedding reception/dinner they ever went to. It was very intimate and different than your normal extravagant wedding. It was perfect for us and everyone had such a wonderful time. We are forever grateful to the staff of Buona Via for making this day one we will never forget. I have been here many times, including renting out the upstairs rooms for my son's confirmation. Generally they are not living up to the standard they used to have. As many have pointed out the dessert cart was rather large and they do serve you right off of it. My boyfriend and I decided to get the creme brulee thinking we would get a fresh one. Nope. The center was runny and rather warm. It's my favorite dessert and I really didn't enjoy it. I got the spinich ravioli - the sauce was not bad, but the ravioli tasted as if it were frozen. I can make this dish with my eyes closed and 10 x better. Our waiter was too busy running around doing nothing of importance. He barely checked on us. When it came time for the bill - my boyfriend and I waited for about 15-20+ minutes. I think we could have just walked out and they would have never noticed. (But we are not those kind of people) :) The bar next to the dinning area had music with the bass all the way up and as a previous poster mentioned - it came into the dinning area. When we first got there they wanted to seat us right next to the front door on a rather cold night. They were kind enough to seat us further back when we asked. (there were MANY open tables.) If you want good Italian food, go down the street to Cafe Lombardi's. I was here with my family, party of six(for which gratuity is automatically included). We had three servers, which put together were not equal to even one good server. The food was hit or miss. The dressing on the house salad was disgusting. The menu says a balsamic vinagrette yet the waiter told me if was creamy italian but tasted like sour buttermilk. The waiter said that it was homemade but was unable to tell me the ingredients. The fried mozzarella was one giant ball of fried cheese with no flavor...how can you mess that up? Not all of our menu selections were bad but none were good enough for the price we paid. Also, I have to mention the ambiance of this place. Our reservation was 630 on a Friday night and although it appeared that we walked into a fine Italian restaurant, it sounded like we walked into a nightclub with the music pumping, "apple bottom jeans, boots with the fur", and so on. We took my mom here to celebrate her 90th birthday and it could not have been better. We were treated wonderfully from the start. The staff were aware of the occasion and wished her a happy birthday. When the wine we ordered was out of stock, they substituted bottles of a more expensive vintage at the same price. The apps were delivered shortly after we ordered, with the entrees coming a comfortable time later. Dinner had a leisurely feel, but we never waited inordinately. Our servers was attentive without hovering. It was handled perfectly. Finally, the dessert offerings were ridiculous- they delivered a slab of dark chocolate cake with a lit candle for my mom while we all sang. First time here and it was delicioso! The seafood stew special was loaded with mussels, clams, and shrimp and just a touch of spice. Our table had the linguine de la mer, veal caprese, and gluten free pasta with crab in a marinara sauce. All dishes were prepared well, came very hot, and were good portions. Went there on a Thursday night. Main floor restaurant was fairly empty. Upstairs was a business party going on. We were a party of 7. The waiter could not have been more rude... seemed like every question was bothering him. He told us the specials and we didn't have menu's. After ten minutes he asked if we were ready to order. When we said we didn't have menu's ,it was again like we were bothering him. After we ordered he disappeared for over 25 minutes. We had to ask for our food. When it finally arrived the veal dish was tough. The pasta was fair and the fish special was terrible. For the prices they are charging they should kiss your a#$ to eat there. I have waited a few weeks since our dining experience to write this review, so that I could cool down after we were treated so indifferently. If I lived or worked in this area I would not bring a business group or large family to this place. Was part of a business dinner of 8 people and the service was near the top for poor attitude and "don't give a damn" attitude. Waiter was indifferent to our entire group, from taking drink orders to telling us about the daily specials. When he did manage to bring the bread basket (one basket for the entire table with some prepackaged butter thrown in the middle of the bread) it was cold and tough. Looks like they just take it out of a plastic bag and throw it into a basket. When he brought our drinks to the table he stood at one spot and had one of our party send the drinks around causing my drink to be spilled twice on it's way around to me. He couldn't be bothered to walk around the table and place our drinks next to us. Kitchen takes too long in getting food out to you! Trying to get water refills or have fresh cheese grated on your pasta was a lost cause. We finally give up and just finished our meal as quickly as possible. Food is okay but prices are way too high. I would take my business to other locations around the area where they actually care about your business and strive to make it a memorable experience. All the staff was too busy with larger parties to ask if our food was okay. They came to our table to clear the plates and left. First time and last time going to this restaurant. Pay attention to your check as they tried to charge for drinks that was included in the kids meal. We had a terrible experience here for a Sunday brunch with a group of 12. The service was incredibly slow, and we had a pile of empty plates sitting in the middle of the table for nearly 30 minutes before the server finally decided to take them away. The food was over cooked and very bland. When our bill came, the server charged us $22 for a 3year old (brunch is supposed to be free for children under 5). Additionally, the gratuity was included for $78 when the service was absolutely awful. Over priced and not a good brunch spot. Look else where. read more

I had to give this a star but it should have zero. This is the worst restaurant in the area. Over priced, the staff thinks they are doing a favor by serving you and the food is mediocre at best. The drinks are watered down, I watched it the waiter with my own eyes at the bars add more soda and ice and change the glass to appear like they are giving you more. I order the shrimp and lobster risotto, I could only find 2 shrimp and a trace of lobster, I sent it back and then never saw the waiter again. To make the meal even worse they had a sardine appetizer special that was served to the table behind us, the smell was so bad that one of our guest who is a,Lerwick to all fish items had to leave the restaurant because of the smell, she could have had an allergic reaction, i too left holding my scarf over my nose and I felt and still feel ill from the smell. Oh and the busser who cleared the table did so in such an obnoxious way, almost spilled the p,ate of olive oil all over my shoulder, but didn't acknowledge me when I said something to her about it. Decent Food - Bad Service. Not a professionally run kitchen or staff. More like someone playing at being a restauranteur. 1st tip off should've been that after we couldn't get seat at the new Ambler tapas place, Lagioia, at 6p on a Saturday we called Buona Via and they said they had plenty of room. They were right - banquet hall like downstairs dining room had only 1 table full. We opted to sit at the bar which seemed livelier. What a huge mistake!! Atmosphere: No idea about upstairs but downstairs dining room did not seem very inviting and stuffed full of tables. Truly reminded me of a nursing home dining room. Bar is semi attractive but the cavernous 2 story ceiling and then the karaoke (not kidding) entertainment crooning a.m. soft rock made it impossible to hear! Service: Poor bartender was solo and though we were the 2nd couple to sit at the bar we go out of there in 1.5 hours (of which maybe was 30 mins of eating). A couple come in after us & left well before us! She had to wait on ALL the people at the giant bar plus the few bar tables - no server helped and the owner seemed far too busy behind the bar chatting up his regulars that he really did her and his restaurant a disservice. She also was clearly not trained about the food ordering or serving. She forgot what my husband ordered - having listened to our order instead of writing it down- only tells us 10 mins after we ordered- puts in order then another 10 mins passes and told us out of his entree (tuna) - which by the way I swear I saw a guy at the bar (friend of owner as they were chatting a lot) who came in after us be served! I didn't point out to my husband as he would have blown a gasket! Bartender was very scattered but again, poor thing, had zero help! She then served my husband the wrong app so owner saw the problem and rushed his next 2 dishes which he finished before I got served mine. Granted I had oysters then a salad and pasta but i was served the last 2 well after my husband finished and only because i told the owner that I was still waiting for food! Timing of service was totally off. I stupidly made mistake of ordering dessert - off a cart so thought couldn't be that bad but bartender had to come from behind bar to wheel over to us then couldn't find pie servers so ran around looking for some -thankfully someone from kitchen came out and showed her how to serve it with a fork. I think she was too frazzled to think straight. I was hoping to have an espresso with it but after I waited and waited flagged her down to say just the bill and forget the espresso - which am pretty sure she never put order for in anyway. The bar which was packed with eaters by the time we left needs more staff not just the bartender and owner who is too busy waiting on his few regulars to really help out enough. Drinks: Wine by the glass way too expensive for the type. $8-9 a glass for wines that cost only that much a bottle. Cocktails and beer decent prices. Food: Surprisingly good. I had oysters -which to be honest were shucked terribly. I only had 6 and at least 3 of them had been shredded by the shucking knife. I just kept my mouth shut. Then a good Arugula salad with grilled calamari, artichokes and shaved parm. Not really as described on menu but still very tasty. Not real italian artichokes sliced fresh but rather 2 tiny halves of salad bar marinated hearts buried under the arugula. The parmesan was nice and sharp but not shaved as said on menu - more a pile of sort of shredded spikes. The tender calamari and a lemony vinaigrette made the dish. I followed w/orecchiette with broccoli rabe and shrimp. Got 4 very rubbery shrimp (way too little for the $ of the dish) but the orecchiette were al dente and the sauce nice and garlicky. My husband got a caesar, said was decent and then prosciutto and melon which was more prosciutto than melon which was nice. Alas no entree for him as they were "out of" the tuna. Dessert is a cart and I had a nice Torta della Nonna which would have been made even better had I been able to wash it down with the espresso that never appeared. My husband thought the dessert cart had slim pickings and we saw why when were walking out the door -a server came form the upstairs carrying 2 diff cakes that they had clearly been serving upstairs and belonged on the dessert cart. Oh well. One other thing that was strange is that the hostess told us there was a soft shell crab special but only once I saw it being served to someone at the bar did I realize we were never told about it by the bartender and it was not on the specials menu.
