We had the entire restaurant for our sons wedding reception. Buono's did an amazing job with the menu. Many of our guests thought it was the best food that they have ever had at a reception . We had a fabulous dinner at Buono Osteria; easily one of the more memorable meals from our visit! The evening started with the burrata, which was fresh and creamy but could've used a bit more seasoning to really shine. The roasted vegetables were simple, well-prepared, and a nice complement to the starters. The scallop risotto was a standout: rich, perfectly cooked scallops, and beautifully balanced flavors. I just wish there had been a little more rice...it was more of a small plate than a full entrée. On the flip side, the gnocchi came in a very generous portion and was absolutely delicious; pillowy, comforting, and satisfying. The pear pizza was such a pleasant surprise: sweet and savory, with a thin, crisp crust that held everything together perfectly. We ended the meal with the chocolate torte and amaretti crème brûlée, and both were exceptional: decadent, well-textured, and not overly sweet. Portion sizes were a bit mixed throughout the meal, but the flavors and presentation were consistently impressive. Would absolutely come back! read more

Service was good but food was so so. I expected the food to be better based on Google reviews. Beef carpaccio was very thin and clam spaghetti was too soft. It felt slightly overcooked/sogfy - perhaps it soaked up too much of the sauce. The sauce itself was too liquidy (felt more like a broth) though theclams were very plump. Pizza was thin and the tomato sauce tasted very fresh. The cocktail was tasty flavour wise but felt watered down. The food tasted a bit bland or one dimensional. Holy moly the pizza is to die!!! We didn't think we'd have time for a full dinner so we stopped here to takeaway a pear and Gorgonzola pizza and a Caesar salad. We took one bite of the zza and my god it was delicious! Insane flavour and beautiful crust! If this place was in Vancouver, it would be dangerous. I'd gain all the weight. I loved the cheese to topping ratio as well, a very well thought out pizza and good for sharing for two. We got a Caesar salad too and ate it on the ferry home. It was grilled and had an amazing Smokey char to it, the croutons were like butter bread pillows and the dressing was exceptional! Eating in here would be amazing too because of the location on the water! I would take a ferry just to go here for dinner. What a solid spot! Highly highly recommend. I would have to say my Buono Osteria is my favourite restaurant in Gibsons Landing, aside from the wait. We came on a Friday night and had to come back at a later time as they were too full. If you can, I would recommend making reservations ahead of time. However, once you have a table, the food is absolutely delicious with a large selection of drinks. It was quite busy on the Friday night we were there and I certainly can understand why. In particular I was a big fan of the pizza we had! Would always recommend if in Gibsons. read more

My first visit with a party of 3 and we all agreed Buono Osteria set a standard most restaurants need to strive for. Upon entering, you notice the wood burning oven and open kitchen on the right with the rugged and handsome chef at work. He smiles, says welcome. We arrived 10min early for our reso and were seated promptly. Greeting was warm and cheerful, a common quality for all our service this evening. The staff check in occasionally without hovering or neglecting. Engaging without forced interaction. The view from the dining room... wooooooow. Most restaurants in North America would charge double just for this view. Here it's part of the character. Islands, mountains, marina, boats, foot traffic, sunset. The room itself is well lit with sunlight, huge windows and wooden beams. Subtle, tasteful decoration all around. Is this love that I'm feeling ? Music was perfect in both selection and volume, an aspect most restaurants spoil horrifically. A medley of 50s/60/70s Motown hits. As the restaurant manager in my group mentioned "it's the spot on relaxation to match the room and view, the volume manages to muffle other tables chatter and preserve casual conversation at the table." Suspect Chef is trying to seduce us. Food... for a simple, ONE sheet menu. Not three pages and four paragraphs per plate. The selection is straight forward, offers a creative twist on classic dishes and focused on quality over quantity. Decided I'm into open relationships if they're open to me. Every plate that showed still bested expectations. Simple, well executed. Delicious without over complication. Garlic toast ? Crusty outside, hot and soft middle, not drowned in butter just well balanced. Smoked olives ? Good luck recreating this balance of flavors at home. Mains? I had the squid ink crab ravioli with scallops, peas and asparagus in lobster bisque. Fork me al dente this had no right to taste this sublime. Subtle lemon zing after each silky crab bite in the ravioli. Scallops cooked gently down to the split second with a light brown crust Bisque balanced the greens with savory flavor. I walked in a peasant now I'm eating like a . Thankfully music drowned out the curse words under my breath as I ignored my table mates and talked dirty to my plate. Is Chef a renaissance hypnotist ? Wish I had three stomachs so I could eat two plates and order the tuna crudo to go. LOOK AT THE PHOTO this was my dinner ! I am no one and yet now one with the universe. I ate a masterpiece the Mona Lisa would stare at from every angle. THIS FOOD TASTES EVEN BETTER THAN IT LOOKS! Someone at my table had the Pera pizza with prosciutto. She wept like a new born taking her first breath with fresh lungs. The resto manager with us had Cacio e Pepe, (spag with pecorino, cracked pepper and black truffle). He called his parents mid meal and told them he loved them, then hung up and shaved his head. We are all students of life. Though I'm not a dessert person I caved to the chocolate torte as dark chocolate is my snob expertise. Perfectly smooth cocoa balanced with mild sweetness and rich pecans. I'm out of superlatives. A true dining experience should not be limited to singular factors - Buono hits it on the mark on all levels: care of service; passion in food; satiation of senses from ambiance to connection. Ryan took the time to convey what he believed our dining experience should unfold to be. We started with a lovely Italian Sangiovese and sublime charcuterie platter that hit the palate on all levels - who knew caper berries could be so delectable and fun at the same time! Next up was the duck gnocchi - yes pillowy... what took it over the top was the marriage of duck sauce and carrot puree - wonderful! Well done Mike - so balanced and skillful! Will we return? If someone was to look at my previous reviews you'd see a pattern of great reviews. I love to talk highly of businesses that have done a great job. That is particularly true of businesses local to me. Share the story, increase their business is my motto. Here we have a local restaurant for which I have been given a gift card, a couple of years ago now. This is a great thing for restaurants. They basically get paid for a meal in advance, guaranteeing them future business. Sometimes people lose these cards and that turns out to be a bonus for the restaurant. But mostly, people just want to use them, to capitalize on the investment that has been made. I have now attempted to go into Buono on 5 different occasions. We live in Sechelt, a 25 minute drive to Buono, so not the most convenient visit, but we've eaten there before and it was worth it. We have called in order to book a dinner for a group and left a message since no one answered. As the day approached we called back to confirm as we hadn't heard from them to be met (no exaggeration) with a response "Did we call you back to confirm? Then it wasn't confirmed." It left us a little taken aback, but hey, maybe it was on us to call back to confirm the receipt of a phone call reservation, rather than expect a response. We have called in advance to ask how busy a night it will be, because we couldn't guarantee what time we'd be there in order to make a reservation. After the phone rang to voicemail several times without an answer we have showed up and been told they were too busy to seat us. No worries, there are other restaurants. We've called and had no answer, and have showed up on a night where there happened to be a private party, restaurant effectively closed. We called today to ensure they were open as in this instance we were actually coming down explicitly to eat there. We laughed and said "Better call and check, we haven't had the best of luck so far." No answer, but the voicemail we reached informed us they are open winter hours, Thursday through Monday, at 5pm. Fantastic we thought. This is our night. Until we arrived there and discovered one other potential patron, waiting for three guests, who had also called and received the same message. We all stared in disbelief at a sign that said "Closed for Winter Break". I mean, it must be the most complicated voicemail system in the world for them not to be able to update it with that important piece of information. There wasn't a moment where we considered this was a joke, just another in a long line of disappointments in trying to get to this restaurant. Now, we've tried 5 times over the last couple of years, which isn't a huge amount and it's to be expected that we might get unlucky once or twice. But in order to try to reduce those chances we have called and left messages, and once or twice spoken to the most rude people we've encountered in a restaurant. And STILL we have attempted to give them our business. Let me be clear... Buono serves excellent food. We have been there for a Whiskey tasting evening and had a stellar time. We are overall fans of the restaurant. But we've absolutely had enough. Take your chances and go there. You won't likely be disappointed with the food. And you might just have excellent service as we have had in the past, prior to pandemic times. But if you go, and you find attitudes, or service, or even availability to be a patron, lacking in quality, don't say you haven't been warned. I have no idea who their clientele actually is. But I guarantee you, from here on I will not be counting myself as one of them. And it's only cost me a $100 gift card for this lesson. read more

Came for a friend's birthday and brought their 3 year old for a 5:15pm table. The kitchen would not split the pasta into 2 bowls for the 3 year old and mom to eat. 'Kitchen rules, we don't split food'. What bull. I kind of understand not catering to everyone's small requests, but do not understand not putting 2 meatballs in 2 separate bowls so a small child won't go nuts. I hope the next one does and ruins everyone's evening. Food was average, service was disappointing. When we complained, the kitchen staff watched over us and were really intimidating. The grilled calamari was delicious as well as their Caesar salad with their exceptionally tasty garlic croutons and the Clam spaghetti was the best we ever had and you were so generous with your clams. We genuinely enjoyed our visit to Buono Osteria. First off, the view of Keats Island and Gibsons Harbour is stunning, and ambiance inside the restaurant is warm, clean and comfortable. In short everything here is very, very good in a casual small town way. We were greeted in warm friendly way by Ryan at the front of the house, and were give very professional and attentive service by Susie. We were there just 2 weeks after opening and yet this place has a very nice vibe. As to the food, my wife and I shared the insalada mista which had a fabulous dressing, and the very tasty smoked olives with our drinks. We then moved on the mains enjoying the pasta puttanesca and a salsicca pizza. Everything was fresh and as good as any restaurant I have ever been in. We are very happy to see this addition to the Gibson dining scene and will be back, soon. read more

I filled in the online reservation form, emailed ,called several times and never got a reply. A very weird way to run a business these days, but ok, their choice. Finally just walked in. Service was very good, but the female manager is just very impatient and snippy with customers. Not who I would have as front of house. Food was so so, nothing special. The roasted vegetable starter was burnt and was almost completely made up of broccolini, they had run out of the burrata salad (how is that possible in an Italian restaurant??) and the 4 cheese pizza was a bit bland. They evidently can't handle customers and take out at the same time. I think they get by on being the only semi-nice restaurant in town because they really don't seem to care about the quality of the food or keeping customers. read more

We made our 5:30 reservation on-line and understood (by Buono's website) all reservation were subject to 1 hour and 45 minute seating time. When we arrived we were advised by the front of the house that the seating time was shortened because of a private event and we had to be done by 7:00pm. At 6:40pm a very large, imposing man in a filthy outfit with a greasy rag under his armpit (whom we later found out was the chef and owner of Buono) approached our table and said in a very gruff manner, "the restaurant is closed you have to leave". This took us all aback because we were told we had until 7:00pm. (The waitress had just sold us another bottle of wine-not sure why if the restaurant was closed). When we didn't immediately get up from our table (we were in shock by this man's extreme rudeness), he came back again, said something else (don't recall) glared and walked away. (Of note-we weren't the only table still seated, there were several others) After paying our bill two people from our party felt compelled to speak with the owner personally to address his rudeness. The thrust of the conversation was to avoid having to write a bad review. Mike Buono's response was, "I don't care, write a bad review". He argued we had been told the restaurant would be closing at 6:30 for a private event which simply wasn't true. And had the audacity to say, the private party had paid a lot of money. I guess the measly $400.00 we spent was a drop in the bucket in comparison. Call me crazy but aren't all customers important. apparently not to Mike Buono owner of Buono Osteria. It appears as though Mike Buono is WAY too comfortable (perhaps being the only higher end restaurant in Gibsons) and doesn't care about his customers by virtue of his behaviour. A dining experience isn't just about the food, it starts and ends when you walk through the restaurant door. We are "Foodies" from Vancouver and dine out often. We have NEVER, EVER been treated so poorly-shame on you Mike Buono. We will never darken your door step again, and rest assured we will be telling everyone we know to do the same. Of note......Following our nightmare experience it was brought to our attention Buono Osteria was recently ordered by the BC Human Rights Tribunal to pay $30,000 to a former transgender employee for discrimination based on their gender identity and expression. Disappointing first experience. Vancouver style and prices but lacking in caliber. The restaurant is brand new and had only been open 3 weeks when we visited. It was recommended to us by a friend and we were excited to try it. By the looks of this restaurant you feel like you're dining at a modern, upscale establishment. The location and views are amazing! The decor of the restaurant is trendy, hip and rustic. The servers were friendly and overall great. The food was sadly just ok. We were definitely expecting a lot more from a restaurant like this one. Prices were $8-15 for appetizers and $17-30 for main dishes. For these prices, you'd expect to have delicious flavours and stand out dishes that tantalize your taste buds. We ordered two appetizer plates and two main dishes. The portions were small, but we expected that from this type of nouvelle cuisine style restaurant. The problem was the food didn't make up for the portion sizes. We ordered the seasonal vegetables with anchovy dip. When it arrived we actually laughed out loud. It was literally two radishes, two pieces of cauliflower, and two pieces of cucumber I believe. Either way, roughly 6 small pieces of raw vegetable on a small plate with the dip in the middle. The anchovy dip could have been amazing and that would have made the dish, but instead it was lacklustre and bland. The dish cost $10. The main dishes were small. The English Pea pasta dish that I had was actually quite nice with good flavours. It was definitely the tastiest of all four dishes that we ordered and that improved our overall experience with the food. In all honesty, I hope that this restaurant will improve as time goes on.
