We arrived at 6:30. I was concerned about getting a table because I'm physically disabled. Fortunately there was an open booth and we were seated immediately. Our server (Coryn) greeted us promptly. My wife ordered an iced tea and I ordered a beer. She came back shortly with the tea and a beer glass that was only a quarter full. She said the keg ran out so she gave me that one for free while they changed the keg. I tried it and didn't like it. She said she'd get me something else. I'm not an IPA fan so I told her that and ordered something with a nondescript name. She found out it was a mild IPA so she brought me a sample of it along with a winter lager. The winter lager was a hit so I ordered it. I told my wife Coryn just earned a big tip. When our food came out the burgers were overcooked. They were ok but not as good as expected. We pointed it out to her and said it was no big deal but we wanted to make them aware. She was not happy about the quality and said she would let the manager know. When she brought the check, they had comped us half the price of the food. What could have been a dissatisfying meal turned out quite pleasant thanks to one of the best servers I've ever had. While the food was fantastic, the atmosphere and service were terrible. Sad this location has become what it is. There were fruit flies everywhere. Our waiter seemed to have no idea what the assigned tables were. He also forgot my friend's beer. A waitress had to tell him that he took her table, a six top. Burgatory is an easy place to come to. I have never had a bad experience here. The service is always great and the food..AMAZING. I think that the only problem is the wait, but that could more so be because so many people want to come here. I recently was here for happy hour and I was pleasantly surprised at their happy hour specials. I would say that happy hour might be the way to go if you want drinks and appys. I have had a lot of their burgers but these are the ones that I recently tried out. Drinks: Strawberry Basil Shag: Vintage Vodka Cocktail with a tasty combination of Fresh Berries & Basil. This one goes down way too easy. This one does go down super easy. It was delish. I would love to just have it in a water bottle and take it on a nice tropical vacation. Yum. It was fresh and not too sweet. Perfectly paired with appys and burgers! Southern Charm: Bourbon, Vodka & Black Tea muddled with Fresh Mint & Lemon. Finished with Peach Bitters. I love a good tea boozy drink. Tea's are my thing and this one was no joke. YUMMY. I think that the fresh mint and lemon were a great addition to the drink. I would order this one again, and again, and...again. Appetizers: Honey Habanero Wings: A great combination of sweet & heat. Buffalo Sauce & Bourbon BBQ available for those more traditionally minded. These were fried to perfection. I would have liked a little more sauce on them but now I know to ask for extra for next time. They were hot, so do not be fooled. I hate when some places say habanero wings and they taste like cayenne, these ones are hot so just watch out. Pommes Frites: Cut Fresh by Hand All Day, Every Day. Truffled Gorgonzola. A must have addition to any visit to Burgatory. Do not skip, do not pass, do not think eh, not today. Just order them and be done with it. They are great and you will be messing up your entire experience here if you do not order them!! Burgers: Piggy Butter & Jelly: Cajun Dusted Ground Beef & Ground Bacon Burger with White American Cheese, Candied Bacon, Bread & Butter Pickles, Peanut Butter & Habanero Jelly. As disgusting as this sounds this was probably my favorite burger on the menu. It was so weird it was good. I loved how the taste really melded together to make something wonderful. Try it out, even if you order it for the table and everyone takes a bite. Just try it out and go from there. You will not be disappointed. And if you are at least you can say you got to try out a burger that has pb and j on it! Elk Gone Wild: Diablo Dusted Grass Fed Elk Burger, Smoked Gouda, Caramelized Onion Marmalade & Bacon Jam with Roasted Tomato Vinaigrette tossed Arugula. This burger is spicy! The diablo dust is not a joking matter. The only thing I can say is that while this burger was good, elk is super dry because it is so lean. I was not thrilled with the taste of it and thought they could have cut it with something else to bring a little moisture in. I would probably not order this again. While good, it wasn't so great that it is on my must try again list. I like it here and you should too! This is a great place to grab drinks or a quick meal before a movie or to go on a nice date. I stopped in to get a bite to eat and cash in on my birthday milkshake (join the mailing list). I ordered: Tony's Chicken Chili it's topped with grated Farmhouse Cheddar, Chipotle Sour Cream & diced Sweet Red Onions. The chili has big chunks of chicken and a subtle spicy kick the blend of the sour cream, cheese and onion is are perfect toppings. The warm Jalapeño & Cheddar Cornbread on the side is a heavenly accompaniment to the chili. I was glad the chili left room in my stomach for the midecided to get the featured milkshake for the 4th of July holiday: The red, white and blue. I believe it was made with vanilla ice cream, chunks of white cake, blueberry & strawberry sauces topped with whipped cream and red, white & blue sprinkles. It might have been because I had set very high expectations, but I was underwhelmed by my burger at Burgatory after receiving so many strong recommendations to give this place a try. It could have just been what I ordered. I tried Morty's Steakhouse Burger. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. It was good. ‍ Aside from the burger, service at the restaurant was great and the milkshake that I ordered, the Cookie Monster, was AMAZING. We attended the evening of the 4th of July. We came for the first time during a visit to Pittsburgh. I have a lot of dietary restrictions so I built my own "burger". The burger itself was a little small but fine but when it came to substituting my side, I picked "organic greens" which I also got on my burger and were simply pieces of lettuce. But when it came on the side for an additional $1.50 it was a side salad with cheese, tomatoes and dressing which I can't tolerate. When it arrived to asked to have just the burger and for them to take the salad back. There were no other acceptable side items and the up-charge was not removed from the bill. It was the point of it really - the menu is misleading and such a small charge not removed when I can't eat the side. For my husband he ordered a burger off the menu. It was too raw in the middle so he stopped eating it before he finished and he actually got sick in the middle of the night which delayed us heading home from our trip. 4.5 stars! This place is super awesome and I was glad I decided to check this place out on my last night during my recent Pittsburgh trip. The place was slightly further away from Shadyside but it's worth a dive. It's located a mall area, so the good part is, you can always find a parking spot! I love that they serve high quality of both milkshakes (they even have spiked options if you want some alcohols in them!) and burgers and their atmosphere and service were both superb. Both my SO and I REALLY enjoyed our meals and experiences there there. My SO ordered a Caramel Pretzel shake and I ordered the Salted Nutella Crunch shake ($6 ea). I actually tried my SO shake, in addition to finishing my own, so I can attest to the fact that you can't go wrong with any choices you made! I felt like the flavors that they offered are interesting and were so well balanced that no matter what you choose, you simply are just going to enjoy them anyways. I also appreciate that they bring the extra portion that they couldn't fill into your milkshake glass for you to finish, too! :D~~~ I was happy that they didn't throw that away...because that would be such a waste! I ordered the Piggy Butter Jelly burger because I thought their ingredients (like candied bacon and habanero jam) sounded interesting. I was pleasantly surprised how well they went together. I forgot what my SO had, but ...at the end..we both finished our meals completely as well. I think that showed how well we loved our meals here. Another thing to like is that the atmosphere of this place was great. It had a good energy, lively vibe to it. We stopped by this place around 9pm and it was still crowded! The service was great, too. The waitress brought out one wrong ingredient in the burger for the table next to us. When the customer informed the waittress about the mistake, she graciously took the comment, promptly apologized...and within the next few minutes, the restaurant manager came out with the correct ingredient/new burger to personally apologize to the table! :) So, yea, I was impressed. Food was good and our waitress (Nikki) was nice and polite. The atmosphere was cool with lots of TVs. They offered us a seat at the bar as soon as we got there, but I needed a booth. We didn't get the beers, but the bar looked active. It was freezing cold and I wish I had a jacket. Seats were pretty comfortable and gave a good view of the restaurant. Lots of families and seems like a good date place. I would take a wife or girlfriend here. Not sure if it's cool for large groups. Unless you sit outside, there was not a lot of room for more than 5 people. My elk burger was spicy but good. There was a lot of break, so I might try the salad next time. There was a lot of meat, but not much cheese or sauce. I guess that's what you really want in a burger. Also, as I ordered it well done, it wasn't dry or bland. You'll taste the meat! An okay spot for a burger in Fox Chapel. It seems like an obligatory Pittsburgh thing to eat at a Burgatory, especially for visitors, but there are other places that to do burgers much better. We were able to get on the waitlist through Yelp which was nice. One of the big problems today was the service, it was pretty slow and we sat for a long time before anyone even came to our table (apparently our waiter was told we were not there). The shakes are fine, the non-alcoholic ones are overpriced. The BBQ Bacon Fries were a mess. The burgers are good but like the shakes, overpriced. You can kind of get carried away adding stuff and it really adds up. And what burger place serves chips with a burger (you can get fries for an uncharge of course). read more

Great as always! I'm so glad they're building one in the Waterfront... But I'm even gladder they're building Crunch gym in the Waterfront too. I'm sure I'll be at the new one more than enough... Lol. The waitstaff is always very nice. If you haven't been here before, go! They get so busy they have to get your phone number, and text you when you're table is ready. This is completely fine by me... I wish all restaurants did this. This is the first time I had one if the hard shakes. I'm not a fan of milkshakes per se, but I think I'm in love with the Espresso Love shake... I had a very similar experience to Frank B. below. I was so ready to enjoy a juicy burger but it was dry and super thick. I paid $1 extra for the farmhouse cheddar and they sprinkled a tiny bit of cheese (that wasn't even melted) on top of my burger. I was expecting a slice of cheddar dripping from all sides of the burger. No such luck. We waited almost an hour from the time we ordered our food until the time we got our food. We were literally the only people in the restaurant when we got there. I wouldn't have minded the wait had the food been worth waiting for. Frank B. was also correct on the milkshake. For $7 you can have a splash of milkshake with your glass of whipped cream. Overall, the server was nice, the food wasn't worth the price and I probably won't be back for a very long time, if ever. Located near the movie theatre, this is a convenient spot to grab food after a movie. I've never had a long wait (if one at all) here, and the staff is very attentive. Their signature milkshakes are delightful and well worth the price. You get a large amount (more than enough to share between two), and the mixes are sweet but well balanced. Burgatory allows you to make "custom" burgers, and have a huge amount of customizability. It's a great option when you have mixed dietary restrictions (e.g., no pork, no fiber, etc.) and want everyone to have options. Other items on their menu are more of a miss for me. Their version of poutine is extremely salty and oily, and their farmhouse salads tend to be overdressed. The slaw they offer as an extra side to your burger is overwhelmingly peppery. Overall, a great spot to come after a movie or if you're looking for a burger, but I'd come here more for the shakes. read more

Gluten free buns!!!! It can be difficult to find a decent burger place which offers GF. They have a special GF menu and take the allergy issues seriously. Their menus are clearly marked. I just need to reiterate how much I love this place. I mean who can go wrong with burgers? My most recent visit here included members of my family. My family not being from the city have heard me talk about this place so much that when they came down they insisted on me taking them there. Of course when we arrived there was a wait, I told them that most likely there would be, not only because it's so good, but because we were going at a busy time. I informed them about the system they have where they text you when you table is ready. Walked up to the podium, gave my information and decided to check out the shops nearby. Good thing we were only right next door, because what happened next totally floored me. When I first went in and gave my name we were told that our wait would be anywhere from 30-45 minutes because we had a party of 5 adults and a child. While we were browsing the racks in the store my phone rang, not knowing the number I did the typical thing and ignored it. My phone than rang again and I told my family that I should answer it. Burgatory went the extra mile here. It was them that called me and told us our table was ready, not even ten minutes into our wait! I mean I heard of having to wait longer sometimes, but never under-waiting (is that a word?). Of course our food was delicious, my little niece was definitely digging the Salty Nutella Crunch shake we ordered. And who can argue with those crispy mixed potato chips they give you? The toppings we're generous and flavorful The brioche bun was soft and almost buttery and redeemed/balanced the intense filling flavors within it. The meat was slightly too dense yet had signifant savoury flavor. It lacked a string maillard crisp exterior. The burgers flavors were sharp, though not poor. The sauce was a bit strong and bit too much Cabernet. Burgatory is a good choice in this area. I'd head back if I wasn't in the mood to fight downtown Pittsburgh traffic. read more

They had a special one that was like strawberry pretzel dessert. It tasted just like it. I had the carmel pretzel one. It was so good! If you go here and like bacon then get the Fiddy Fiddy hamburger. It's ground bacon and hamburg together! So good! Price was about what I was expecting it to be. Definitely worth it. Ok, normally I won't give a review without trying a place at least three times. Well, I have eaten at the various Burgatories throughout Pitt. Most are ok, just ok. This location is one of the worst. I went there Friday, 22 March 2019 with my son and daughter-in-law. Place was not busy, around 8pm. Some of the worst service I have had in years, red flag when the server wrote my order on the back of my son's order. Drinks took FOREVER to arrive, a milk shake arrived first then ten minutes later a mixed drink. Burgers took over thirty minutes to arrive then only two came, one of which had the wrong toppings. Five minutes later, " yours will be right out sir" They forgot to make it. Forgot to make it because it was written on the back of another order. Oh, thanx for the cold and greasy chips while I waited. NOT .... it finally arrived, luke warm, soggy bun, slimy. They took it off the bill, luckily or the review would be worse. I used to rave about Burgatory, but the last few times, its gone way down hill. My daughter and I stopped by on a Friday night around 8pm and the place wasn't busy at all with social distancing requirements. We waited roughly a 1/2 hour to get our food and it was burnt like I've never seen burnt food before. All my daughter ordered was grilled cheese which was black on the bottom and very dark on the top. I know the trick, you put the burnt side down hoping no one will notice, but we did. Burgatory burgers used to be at least the size of the bun but have consistently gotten smaller. This particular hockey puck burger fit the profile of an actual hockey puck. I should know, we just left hockey practice to go to Burgatory. It was tiny and charred black on both sides. I actually requested medium/pink as they offer, but this was well beyond well done. When the waitress asked how everything was, I really didn't want to ruin her night so I didn't say anything because I could see she was covering about half of the restaurant herself. I still gave her a 20% tip regardless but I don't think I'll be back to Burgatory for a very long time if ever again. To put it into perspective for you, the last McDonalds quarter pounder I ordered was way better than the hockey puck I received at Burgatory. PS - If I order a milkshake and pay $9-$11 for it or whatever, don't give me a glass that's 60% whipped cream and 40% milk shake. read more
