I'm moving in to a house that is lovely but has a roach problem due to the last person getting old and not being able to keep up her house. I've had an infestation of book lice in my apartment on and off for years, and I've NEVER been able to find someone who was familiar with these pests, let alone knew how to eradicate them. Very brief intro to Burge Pest Control. Called and got through to Rich, the owner I believe, my problem was/is possible termite infestation. Rich had me send him so photos of what was concerning me. He was reassuring that it probably wasn't the dry wood termites that I was seeing but most likely dirt from an old infestation of subteranean termites that I was already aware of. He took the time with me over the phone to let me know he doesn't do full house inspections but just inspections for a specific location. But he also gave me the heads up on who I could call to get a full house inspection. He sounds very knowledgeable of the local situation and was willing to share that info with no flim flam. At least I now have a starting place to research my problem. read more

Disappointed! I have used Burge Pest Control 3-4 times for dealing with the ant infestation that happens almost every fall. Their prices are reasonable and they can usually schedule an appointment within a day or two. In the past, their service has been pretty good. However, this year they lost me as a customer. I asked them to spray the perimeter or my house and a cottage that I have in my back yard. That seemed like a pretty routine request. The technician arrived the next day and I was home to orient him and open gates to allow easy access. I watched him at first and he seemed to be doing a thorough job of soaking the base of the foundation. But when I came out five minutes later he had already left. I went to check on the job he had done and noticed that there were large areas that still looked completely dry. It was pretty clear which area were wet and which ones were not. The wet areas were still clearly dark and soaked, including the ground, the foundation, and the door sills. But the whole south side of the cottage and north side of my house looked like they had not been touched. I was upset and called Rich to let him know that I was not satisfied with the job that had been done. He asserted his technician must have sprayed everything and that I was mistaken, but offered to have him come back and do the areas in question again. I said that i was quite confident that areas had been missed and that I am a contractor so I have some sense of whether the ground and foundation had just had water applied to them. I also told him that I was concerned about using his company in the future because I was not convinced that they would do a complete and thorough job if I did not happen to be around to check up on their work. At that point Rich became quite hostile and said "what do you want me to do?" I told him that I would like him to give me the benefit of the doubt (as the customer) to which he replied that his technician had been with him for 3 years ( a long time?) and that "I should give him the benefit of the doubt". His attitude was highly unprofessional. He treated me as if I was a fool for questioning his technicians work and remained argumentative instead of meeting me as a customer. I will not be using Burge Pest Control again. p.s. I had to leave, so I was not around when his tech can back and resprayed. When I got home two hours later, the ground and the foundation on the south side of the cottage were still noticeably damp. It confirmed to me that the area had not been done the first time the technician came. Lame. read more

This business is really professional and easy to deal with. Had ant problems for years and called Burge on recommendation from a fellow Alameda ant sufferer. I got the owner on the phone, and had an informative, efficient, friendly conversation. We set up an appointment over the phone for two days later when I would be out of town. The house was sprayed while I was away and a note of services was left on my door. About a week and a half later I received a bill in the mail, which I paid by credit card online. The only thing I had to do was clear the path immediately around the perimeter of my house. I have a dog, so I asked about potential risks over the phone and the owner of Burge carefully and convincingly explained that the pesticide they use is not unlike that used for pet flea medication, and is completely safe for pets after a brief drying period. Ants are nowhere to be seen, I'm very satisfied and will be using them again. read more

I have routine service with them for almost 2 years. However I don't know when it will spray on which day until the bill comes. I received calls about 2 times regarding the schedule. Everyone I want additional service or focus to certain area or add special instruction. Believe me, I Jane hard time to reach them. Neither me nor my tenants like it. We used Burge Pest Control for several years and never had a problem until recently. They started billing me for appointments that no one ever showed up for. I was billed for two appointments back to back while I was out of the country. They claimed to have came out to our property and sprayed. Our home is gated and has two guard dogs which would have made it impossible for them to come spray. When I told Joyce this she emailed me again the billing with those two services. When I told her I want paying for services that were not rendered she claim that they did the service and I asked to them see the invoices with my signature for the services she couldn't respond. They of course send me to collections over these services that were never provided and are now out to ruin my credit. Don't use these scammers. Plus I was getting phone calls from them demanding the money at all hours. read more

Something had been crawling on our roof and eating the oranges on our trees - so we called Burge Pest Control to come take a look. Their squirrel specialist, Bridget, came to our house to diagnose the situation. She "tracked" the pests and determined - through poop, bite marks, and foot prints - that we had rats! Yuck. She showed me all the places that a rat could squeeze through to get into the basement and gave me the option of fixing them for a fee that afternoon. I am not handy, so we had her do all the repairs. She also set traps in the basement along the rat's path (which she knew from the trail of poop they left). We had the option to do catch and release...but we didn't go that route. If a rat gets trapped, we're to call Burge and they will come and empty the trap. Bridget was great. I called Burge pest control to find out about fungus removal. I have been given a very high quote by another company and was questioning it. Mr. Crawford was extremely helpful and told me how I could do it myself for little money. He explained also about my powder bugs and the quote he gave me for removing ants is 50% less than the competitor. I would echo some of the negative comments here. Rich, the owner, is cordial enough on the phone, but seemingly operates in chaos. Appointment setting on the phone while you're out on the job isn't great--and that's how he works. Balls get dropped, and that happened repeatedly with me when I was a customer. They kept missing appointments and turning up without one. Steve, who did my spraying, is unreliable and far from thorough. He would just spray whatever happened to be easy to access, and paid no special attention to problem areas that would be pointed out. And, yes, they're no strangers to sending out invoices for work they never did. I don't think they're trying to pull a fast one--it's just poor admin. I spoke to Rich to air my grievances and said that I would be ending our relationship. he took it as if he didn't care one damn to lose a regular customer--I am pretty sure he's lost many others for poor quality of service, so it was water of a duck's a** read more

I discovered there was a huge nest of some sort of flying stinging insect in my back yard when my tree service guys were attacked and stung multiple times (by the way, Brende & Lamb, I'm sorry, and you're awesome). I spent a couple of days thinking gee whiz these wasps, or whatever they are, are part of nature and I should just leave them alone, just give them their space. Yes, my parents are hippies. But then I stood near the nest area for about five minutes, just checking them out, and the wasps (you may know them better as yellow jackets) attacked me, just for standing there. That did it. There are two small children next door, and I started having nightmares about them being attacked. When I called Burge I was all, "Wasps! Help! Save the children! WASPS! " Burge came quickly, worked quickly, and was gone quickly. So were the wasps. Gone, that is. A year later they are still gone. Thank god. read more

These guys were hired by the Association company of my complex. They sent out a tech that seemed tired and apathetic about being at our place. Don't get me wrong.. he was nice and all, but he knocked, we talked and he was very "Eh, ok.. I am gonna do some things outside and a.. you know.. then I am outta here." type of attitude. Truth be told, we had another company out for the exact same issue and they handled it differently all together. Burge didn't even come in and they mis-diagnosed our problem. The guy sprayed outside of a 3 story building without a ladder when I said the problem was on the roof and/or in the crawl space. He never got on a ladder and he was only here for 10 minutes. We didn't need a spray as much as we needed someone to get up in our crawl space and look to see if there was a nest of wasps and there was. When I called the company to explain that our problem still existed and that it was more frequent, I was soothed and told that our issue was commonplace and that it would pass as the season came on. The guy I talked too and I actually kind of had a "disagreement" lets call it, on the phone and he said he wasn't sending anyone out to get up in the crawl space. We had Bay Alliance pest control out here and they were an entirely different story. They didn't make a diagnosis until they got up in the crawl space and they were thorough about all their work, which took about 2 hours and we haven't had an issue since calling them. Subsequently, Burge was removed as the primary pest control company with our association and Bay Alliance is now the new #1 for our entire development. I still don't know what they came out and sprayed, to be honest. So ridiculous............ And no matter what you think you know about insects or whatever your particular business is, don't ever argue with a customer about their problem. He immediately put my wife, dog and I at ease--super personal, easy going and an obvious expert. He removed a trap Orkin left that could have hurt our dog (it was in a spot she could easily find) sealed a rat access point under our sink and walked around the house checking for vulnerabilities. After spending over an hour of his time he wasn't convinced we still had a rat problem. SO HE DIDN'T EVEN CHARGE US. We'll leave a plate of dog food & peanuts under the house. I called Burge, Western and Clark pest control companies in January 2013 to come over and assess my ant problem. Only Western kept their promise and came over to assess the problem. I signed up with Western. Ever since I've been receiving a statement from Burge Pest Control for $140. I keep calling every time I receive a reminder for payment but nothing is done. They never set foot in my house or on my property. This month the statement says: "final notice". Can't wait for this to go to a collection agency. Maybe then they'll realize that I've never been a customer. Anyway, if Burge can't show up for a first visit and have obvious bad book keeping practices, I would not approach them with a 10 foot pole. Go with someone else. save yourself the hassle. read more

I gave them a call and Rich was up front with the pricing and services. I decided to give them a try. Rich came out , on time when he was scheduled, sprayed the perimeter of our house and explained what he did and what to expect. Within a day the ants where gone and the issue was solved. We decided to go with his every other month special because he guarantees the service and if you have any issues with ants or insects in between those months they will respray at no cost to you. I recently had to have them come out and respray, not for ants but we were getting those pincher bugs in the house.
