We drove to Bristol on a whim from Roanoke, VA and someone casually recommended we stop here. Well...man, we're so glad we did! This place was so good!! The service was awesome. The server and the guy behind the bar were super personable and even let us "try out" some different fries since we haven't been there! We got the grill cheese burger, which is super good...but is actually two whole grill cheese sammys with a burger in it!! Also got the burger with the mushrooms and onions which was giant, but great. We tried several fries, I like the parm fries but my husband liked the cheese fries. All really good! read more

Beware of the fire god burger, the waitress will tell you it's not that hot, however, the spice that they put on it is made with ghost chillis and habanero, the man they buy the spice from wears a respirator when making it. Food taste terrible. The only thing that taste good is the fries and you have to add salt to it because they don't add it for you. The service there is terrible too. The milkshakes don't taste that good either. There is no use in your children coming either if the only thing they like is chicken. My school had a free cheeseburger night at the burger bar so I attended because I had nothing to lose. The burgers there are way too salty for me. I ate there twice just to make sure they were not off of their game on free burger night and they were salty again. The new owners are very nice, but they need to not fix what isn't broken. Burgers went from awesome to "just OK." I commented on a difference in taste and he said, "We changed it up a bit, we like it better that way." Yeah, not for the better, also I LIKED THE GRILLED BUNS! Cold buns make for awful burgers. Had to give only 2 stars due to the huge difference in quality between the burger (5+ stars) and the reuben sandwich (-1 star). We were in just before closing and ordered food to go. The burger and sweet potato fries were fantastic and well worth the wait , The reuben - - corned beef was stringy and dried as though it had sat out waiting all day for something to happen and if there was any sauerkraut it had no taste, the sauce was just bland, the cheese could have stayed home, and the bread was toasted well beyond tasty. We will go back, but won't ever order the reuben again. Didn't discover the condition of the sandwich until we got home. May not ever order takeout again, either. read more

We really enjoyed this place. Erika, our server, was fantastic! The Burger Bar gives a nice sense of nostalgia, it is very clean, the service is great and the food was just what the doctor ordered! There was 6 in our group, and all of us left satisfied. I had the Fire God hamburger platter. Erika accurately suggested heat level 5 out of 10. I love spicy food, but anything over 5 is just for "heat-seekers". My nose is still running. We also really enjoyed their selection of fries. Try a couple different kinds while you are here. We have enjoyed their burgers for years because they reminded us of old fashioned burgers. Today, I took 4 of my friends up to enjoy one of their burgers and I was disappointed. The bun! I have visited BB a few times while attending the annual Bristol Roots & Reunion festival. When they are "on" they are most excellent! Perfect burgers and sides. Caution: They are 50/50 if you order from the outside grill during the festival; I have had both an excellent flame-broiled burger and a chewy dry puck of ground beef there. Where do I even begin with this place? The Burger Bar has a great history, and I feel like they are trying to bring that back to life. Which in itself is great. That's just about all I can say on the positive aspects of this establishment. Now to my experience with the food, service, etc. The first thing when you walk in, you are assaulted by dollar bills plastered all over the place. Personally I find this very tacky. I sat at the counter, and had to wait 10 minutes before someone even noticed I was there. I wrote this off as they were busy, finally someone took my order. I ordered: the cheeseburger with caramelized onion and mushroom, an order of bacon cheese fries, and a large drink to go. I should have known that my choice of lunch was a mistake from the get go. A large is 16oz. And cost me 1.99 plus tax. I was already not thrilled by that. I return about 20 min. Later, and my order is ready, and I was offered a free refill, cool beans. I always check a to go order before I leave, and to my dismay no cheese no bacon on my fries. It was solved in less than a minute, so no big deal. I'm all excited, because the majority of reviews for this place are outstanding, I was sadly mistaken in that emotion. The fries were crispy; that is the extent of compliment for the food. What little cheese there was on the fries was obviously from a can, the "caramelized" onions were raw at best, the mushrooms were a soggy attempt at sauteed, no cheese on a sad hockey puck of a hamburger patty, and of this encased in a wet bun. I was sorely disappointed, especially considering the exorbitant price of the meal. I am sad to say that I will not be returning any time soon read more
