This is an awesome place. I found it while out looking for some place to have a nice breakfast during race weekend. Pancakes and bacon were fantastic. The biscuit and gravy were homemade awesomeness. Great burger and great service. I was there at lunchtime on a weekday and the place was full except for one empty seat at the counter. Where to eat in Bristol, VA? Right here at the Burger Bar. Best burger I've had in a long time. Their sweet potato fries are crisp and crunchy, and the amazing burgers support local business. Surprisingly, this tiny restaurant - more in the spirit of a diner- had a pleasantly tasty and avant-guarde culinary flair. To cite an example: the "cinnamon sauce". It is to apple butter what sea salt caramel is to plain syrup. Thick, sweet, salty, strong with cinnamon and what I presumed to be honey, this sauce pairs amazingly with the sweet potato fries, and my Howlin' to the Moon burger's chili topping. Sheer genius. This place is a throwback to......well a while ago and way before I moved to this area. It is right downtown in Bristol and has the best burgers in the area. Went for lunch and had a real malt and the "Oh My Cheese" burger. It's a hamburger with grilled cheese sandwiches as the bun. The Parmesan fries were a nice touch. This is a great place to bring people visiting the area or someone who hasn't been in a diner environment in a while but don't expect high end tables and chairs. It's very casual. read more

This is a great place to eat. It is right in the action of downtown Bristol. Iv eaten here multiple times because it has great food and employees. Not only is the food good but there's a historical "feel" to the place. Highly recommend as a must try. The sign says best burgers in town - I believe it!! Huge patties with great grilled flavor. Lots of different burger choices. Absolutely delicious! And I was almost more impressed with the side salad - large, fresh, and good dressing!! The atmosphere is fabulous - like a vintage diner. There's also outdoor seating if you want to enjoy the nice weather and action on the road. Our server was fabulous, and we will definitely come back when we return to beloved Bristol!!! If your menu says you serve breakfast until 10:30, then you should serve breakfast until 10:30 & your wait staff shouldn't be rude when you ask them about it, especially when your cooks are still cooking breakfast for other customers. It was good. Nothing out saying whoa but a nice size burger for the price taking one of their specials. My son ended up the common cheeseburger with peanut butter choc shake. I knew he wasn't able to finish it as wanted to add on the fries. No need fries! With their Cajun seasoning over it. Been open since 1942. Had a cheeseburger and fries at the Burger Bar last week. First time I have visited since the new owners took over. They have increased the size of the dining area but still have the same basic menu. I went to burger bar today.. I get being busy and caught up in work.. However without us being the patrons and paying for our food, this place wouldn't even be in business. I didn't get any eye contact. I went in and waited until someone acknowledged me, never happened. My sister called in my order, I ordered a basic cheeseburger combo which in their menu said would be $4.50 my bill came to $11.23. If I could give this place no stars I would. The staff was more concerned in socializing with friends whom came into eat on a discount rather than help a paying customer. read more

My husband and I went there today for lunch, we will never be back!! The waitress came to take our order, I ordered the cheeseburger, my husband ordered the hamburger with a fried egg, she ask him how he wanted his egg, he told her well done. We got our food, my husband took a big bite of his and the egg wasn't well done, the yellow yoke squirted all over his new white shirt, the front and side of his shorts, it was a mess. I'm sorry this had to happen cause we really loved eating here, this is our first bad experience!! You really need to hire better employees that are nice to your customers not rude!!! I've eaten at the Burger Bar multiple times now, and I'm a fan. The food and service has been exceptional with each visit, and the restaurant's look and feel is unique and pretty cool, for a lack of better words. The location in Downtown Bristol is perfect for this place. Kind of a classic, retro feel with killer burgers, fries, and shakes. Since it's been renovated, there is more seating than before, which is nice. I do like the bar area in the main entrance, though. I've tried many of their hamburgers, which I can't remember the names of due to their unconventional titles. The hamburgers are always perfectly cooked and flavored, and the fries and a milkshake are the perfect additions. I will say, however, that I tried the Fire God hamburger and it scorched my entire mouth. That was mostly my fault, as you get to choose the level of heat you want on the burger. Just a tip on this one: a little goes a long way. All in all, it's a great classic burger joint, and I can't wait to come back! read more

We found this place, last year, on our Memorial Day trip to VA, and we decided to make it part of our annual tradition. The parmesan fries are still awesome, and the family loved the burgers and shakes. Such a neat little place. I tried the bread from the Mormon burger on whatever it was that I ordered, and I really liked it. Whatever the description, it was loaded in butter much like a grilled cheese sandwich, although I did not have the burger with two grilled cheese sandwiches, this time (I did, last year, though!). The festival has grown to the point where getting into the building is not really feasible. They set up a cook station and patio in front. I had very sub-par food and with no old time diner ambiance to offset , I would say it was a lousy experience. An overpriced, dried out ,overcooked , not even warm burger that had been cooked probably hours ago and wrapped up. Very disappointing! There is better festival food from the many food vendors and establishments along state street. One of my favorites was the Manna Bagel with very fresh bagel sandwiches and salads. read more

Worst service EVER! Burger overcooked! Lots of LIP SERVICE! At first I thought, gee, this doesn't look right, and it wasn't! But any place can have a bad day! This USED to be a favorite of the family, but apparently, the service as well as the quality have taken big hits! Sent my Sweet 12 yo GN to pick up burgers for himself, his Grandma and myself. He made the order for 3 burgers, first time, only got one burger! Went back in and they made two more. Online said burgers all CAME with lettuce, tomato and pickle. His had NOTHING but a bun! Grandmas came with some lettuce, Mine came with enough lettuce to disguise it was BURNT, onions, a skinless tomato slice? and pickles chips. No ketchup, no mustard, no mayo! However, did include two packets of different mayos (dukes and a no name), one packet of mustard, and one ketchup. Grandma was so upset, she called down to talk to Michael, the server who waited on the GN, and he proceeded to say he does SO MANY BURGERS A DAY, how could he remember? Grandma explains that the grandson came on his bike, etc, then Michael remembers, "YEAH, he came in the wrong door!!!" and proceeded to REMEMBER THAT VERY WELL! But Michael couldn't remember what to put on the burgers, and what to charge for the burgers?! Well Michael, don't worry about what door the kid came in, because he will not be coming in ANY of your doors again, and oh, like I need to mention this, nor will I or his Grandma! So thank you for turning the situation into major fiasco, and instead of an apology and offer to correct your mess up! My advice, Hardees makes a better burger, includes everything they say, and will lettuce wrap your burger beautifully in paper so you can eat it easily, and guess what? No lip service! Just to be fair, GN said the cook was very nice, said hi to him and asked him to come back and see them! Which makes me think Michael the SERVCER, may not know how to write an order correctly! I know he doesn't know customer service on any level! And if you are the OWNER Michael, SHAME ON YOU for jerking a 12 yo kid around and being a horses backside for talking to my 82 yo Mother like a jerk when she called to talk to you!! read more

We drove to Bristol on a whim from Roanoke, VA and someone casually recommended we stop here. Well...man, we're so glad we did! This place was so good!! The service was awesome. The server and the guy behind the bar were super personable and even let us "try out" some different fries since we haven't been there! We got the grill cheese burger, which is super good...but is actually two whole grill cheese sammys with a burger in it!! Also got the burger with the mushrooms and onions which was giant, but great. We tried several fries, I like the parm fries but my husband liked the cheese fries. All really good! read more
