I've had this place on my "to visit" list for a while. After hearing good reviews on yelp and from friends and family, I had to check it out! It was one of the main destinations for our date day! We wanted to go on a hike too but heavy downpours deter us. I Got a Oahu burger and boy, it was amazing! I'd actually say it was the best specialty burger I've had! Cheddar cheese, pineapple, bacon and bbq sauce. I'd take two if I had cash for it which brings me to my next point. That's actually where they lost a star - expensive for the size of the burger. The quality makes up for it but my point stands. Why does any business do cash only nowadays? With little square card reader small businesses can easily (and fairly cheaply) charge cards. Oh, the rustic, hand-painted Burger Barn sign!!! The beef is quality -- maybe even local and grass-fed. And the wide variety of offerings make it hard to choose, but you cannot go wrong. These flavor combinations have been carefully thought out and executed well. (I got the Ethan Allen, and it was perfect.) There is a wait, usually, so you will have time to ponder your decision...and then question and doubt if you made the right decision or not for the 10 minutes you wait for your selected burger to appear. But at the end of your wait, you shall be redeemed. And do get the fried green beans. They have a bit of a kick that will make you smile, and you can even pretend you made a healthy, vegetable-based choice for your side. I'll admit - we live about 12 minutes away but have never stopped by the Burger Barn. When it was at the old location, it looked a little silly and we forgot about it so never went. But, they moved and I had heard from a few people that it was actually quite good. This place is incredible!! Large menu and menu options. This place is sooo busy but they always get it done. Call ahead to order and you won't have to wait. But honestly waiting isn't the worst on a beautiful day and on one of their picnic benches. Friendly staff and they always get my order right even with changes. From the French cut french fries, to the perfectly seasoned fries zucchini . I ordered the nutty goat and holy cannoli did it exceed all expectations. In our group we had a classic bacon cheeseburger, the Ethan Allen (apples, cheddar, and cranberry), Garlic burger, Thai burger, Nutty Goat, and the Alamo, and they all received high marks. We all agreed it was probably one of the best burgers we had ever had. The Nutty Goat in particular was a fantastic blend of savory and sweet. You could tell by the taste of the meat that it was high quality. We had a range of requests for how we wanted them cooked (from rare to well done) and everything was cooked to our specifications. The burgers are served without any sides so we got the onion rings, fried pickles, and fried zucchini to share. Great little place in a little town. Luckily for us out-of-towners, it is right on the main highway either coming into or leaving town. Big juicy burgers with (kinda) big prices. Burger barn is awesome. To start, they have really fresh burgers. Just their plain burger is great on its own. Well seasoned and well cooked beefy deliciousness. They also have several veggie options, usually a bean burger and/or rice burger. But if that's not enough, they have TONS of varieties of burger combos with all kinds of ingredients and sauces. My favorite is the Michigan which has mustard, onion, cheese, and a meaty chili of sorts. Wow, that's good. They also have some great sides like fried pickles, onion rings, etc. Other options include a good chicken sandwich and hot dogs. Service is always friendly and efficient - you will always be greeted with a smile. Seating is limited to a few picnic tables under the beautiful Vermont sky (some tables have umbrellas too). It's location is quite unassuming, it is in a gravel parking lot next to a what might be an auto repair or machine shop, and a window/glass repair shop, with some picnic tables as the only seating. But do not let appearances fool you, this is a first class burger establishment. There must be three dozen choices to choose from, from your very basic to some very gourmet selections. I wish we had a few more days in the area, we would have come back for more. I would put these up against my local fave Shake Shack any day.
