I'm a classic cheeseburger kinda gal, but I was enticed by the Bench Burger. I was in the mood for something decadent and boy did this burger deliver. What stood out to me was the combo of blue cheese, bacon, and grilled mushrooms; a triple whammy of umami. I'd also like to add that I'm not the biggest fan of bbq sauce in a burger, but this was an exception. There wasn't that long of a line when I came for lunch and it was very spacious inside, along with plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. You just order at the counter, grab a number, and pick a table. Easy peasy. The staff was very welcoming and obliging throughout my entire dining experience, from the moment I walked through the doors to delivering my food to the table. I thoroughly enjoyed the craft sodas they had available on the fountain, the mixture of the cherry soda with their cola is fantastic. I often crave a good burger, so this is certainly going to be on my list of places to visit when I need to get my fix. read more

Cool ambiance, decent food, and prices not too outrageous. Definitely worth a revisit if in the area. Dropped by for dinner at 7pm on Mothers' Day. Only had to wait 5 minutes for a table for 2. Ordering was easy and everyone was friendly. I had a slider sampler with three burgers. The good, all the burgers were cooked to a perfect, juicy medium. The bad, they were all under seasoned and the buns were bland, even though you can taste they were slightly grilled. And because they're sliders, the ratio of bun to meat is quite different from an actual burger so the commentary may not be totally representative to an actual burger. Prioritized from most to least favorite: 1) Smokehouse: this burger had the most garnishes, with the thick salty bacon and the fried onion. These helped with the taste significantly with the under-seasoned burger. A solid B+. 2) Mushroom Swiss: I assume if I had this in full size, this would have been my favorite. The cheese was very nice but there was very little mushroom in the slider. The patty tasted especially juicy and was enjoyable. This gets a B. 3) Fig Jam: really looked forward to try this one given it's the most unique of the bunch. But with few salty condiments added, coupled with the under-seasoned patty, it tasted somewhat bland with the sweet jam almost overpowering the burger. Only gets a C+ for a well cooked patty. I also took a bite of my wife's Golden Rooster slider and I felt this was definitely the weakest of the bunch. The chicken patty was dry and represented the frozen chicken sandwiches I bought from Costco. I can only give this a C. Arugula salad was nice - very generous with the arugula, apples and cheese in a sweet, tangy, refreshing vinagrette. And the fried chickpeas definitely highlighted the salad adding interesting texture. This gets a B+. Fries - tasted fresh. Would prefer a little more frying, and the spicy chili dipping sauce (I'm pretty sure with added garlic flavor) was great! Ultimately, it did satisfy by fries craving, and deserves a solid B. I'll come again and try actual burgers. With a higher meat to bun ratio, I trust the experience will be better. Just hope they go a little more aggressive on the burger seasoning. read more

I finally checked out Burger Bench in Esco and was really impressed! I was glad that full service is offered at the bar so we sat there. Fantastic selection of draft beers. I ordered the "Chorizo Diablo" and it was excellent. Made with spicy, chorizo, grilled peppers, cream cheese, cheddar, arugula, tomato, jalapeños, and a tasty house chipotle aioli. Whenever tots are an option I order those. They were fried to the perfect crispness that I love. They can also be ordered truffle parmesan style. Everyone was nice and thoughtful. 5 stars for the availability of gluten-free buns in Escondido and for them being actually really good. I recommend the burger with the fried egg and tater tots, very very good. The shakes are huge and well crafted. Much needed for a hot summer day. The food is cooked fresh, with all sorts of options, including a vegetarian black bean burger that is quite good. If you have a chance to stop by, I highly recommend you do so. They also have kombucha or other beverage options, but if you're able, you should try one of the shakes. I will drop it down one star for the location and cost (parking is a bear, I had to park behind the building and walk around the block to get there) as well as the size of the restaurant itself. The inside seating is air conditioned, but seats aren't generally available during the afternoon, and it's too warm in Escondido to sit outside eating red meat and fried foods. The food itself is a bit pricey, the burger doesn't come with fries (or in this case, tater tots - I recommend the parm ones). read more

Street parking only. Tough to find parking. They have inside and outside seating (curb and parklet). This place was pretty packed. Ambiance had a sports bar vibe and looks like they sell beer only, no cocktails. You need to check in with host to get a table then place your order at the counter and they will bring out to you. This process was a little odd. The menus were all gone and it was hard to see the board until we got closer up, which meant people took a long time to order. I ordered chicken nuggets for my kid but they gave us sliders instead. Luckily they still ate one. The apple slices were HUGE. Cut way too big for a little kid to eat. Tots and rings were decent. All of the burgers were overcooked. I'm not sure why they asked how we wanted them cooked if it was going to be well done (super dry) when we asked for medium.the one chicken slider was also over cooked and very stringy. read more

Five star for amazing burgers, great salads & decent portions/prices. They have very good gluten free buns. The downfall is this place is too small. There seems to always be a wait for a table. Check in with the hostess & you wait for a table assignment, then you stand in a one register line to order & then you wait at your table for your food. For our Vegan followers out there, don't despair and conclude that this place has nothing to offer you! How does a "Veggie Melt Grilled Cheese" sound to you? Not bad? Well how about a "Brie and Fig Melt?" "Pestomato Melt" anyone? This is definitely not your burger only joint. Now back to our burger peeps...don't worry, we didn't forget y'all! The breadth of their burger menu is impressive considering that the orders submitted by our Review Team included a "Bench Burger", "Smokehouse Burger", "Taco Burger", and a "Turkey Burger." Their burger "accessories" included chili (which had just the right amount of heat; enough to challenge you, but not punish you) and regular fries/sweet potato fries/onion rings/tater tots (each include the accompanying sauce of your sauce and the "Bench Sauce" was my favorite). Rurmor has that Burger Bench leadership is debating whether to eliminate it's weekend breakfast menu altogether due to profit and losses. I understand at the end of the day Burger Bench is a business however as a frequent customer its breakfast and staff is the reason why I am a reoccurring customer. There are 100s of restaurants in SD county that provide breakfast and I'll honestly say that burger bench breakfast is definitely in the top 1-2%. To Burger Bench leadership, I get it profit and losses matter however please don't take the breakfast portion of your business away.... You are definitely taking away loyal customers. As a Escondido resident I get it......business attrition is very high....... However, you guys are the consistency that Escondido needs. I'm sure you will figure it out and I'll be there to support it. Side note, you guys really need to open a restaurant in North Park or downtown San Diego you guys would absolutely crush it over there. It's really a no brainer. We were coming back from airport north and we're liking for a place to eat we could all agree on. Burgers is pretty much an all around pleaser. Burgers were awesome. Even my kids Cobb salad looked amazing. I had a classic burger which I devoured in seconds. Only weird thing is that sandwiches don't come W sides so you have to order separately but they are large enough for the table. We will be back. The neighborhood is preste awesome too. Brunch here is a whole different beast in the best way! We've been coming for dinner very often and never disappointed. However recently we decided to stop in for weekend brunch for the very first time and were amazed at the options and our experience. Ambiance was sweet and slow. The morning light hits so nicely and they play a slower music which really rounds out the sweet Saturday morning feel. We shared the chicken and waffles which were absolutely amazing. Waffle was nice and fluffy with a light crisp and chicken has a nice juicy bite with a satisfying crispy breading. All the flavors complemented each other and gave me Cobb vibes. The tots were cooked to a crisp while keeping that fluffy inside - grab a dip or two, worth the quarter each. Regarding the grilled cheese - Brie, apples, and house fig jam on sourdough - it was delicious, but had better elsewhere (grilled cheese connoisseur lol). Gotta come back for the milk shakes next time. Service: Hostess greeted us with a friendly face, gave us a table, and we went in to order. Good food comes with lines so expect that on a Friday evening. The wait staff brought out food over and cleaned up after us. It was getting dark, so they even gave us portable light and heaters were available. They were also so kind to provide a bowl of water for the pup! The food here is delicious, and the service is always great. We have tried the sliders, almost all the burgers, and the fries and tots - all of it has always been near perfect. The only complaint I can make is that the bottom bun does tend to get soggy by the time you are halfway through the burger, which can make it difficult to eat. Love their cowboy burger and their fries. Don't go toward the end of the night though. They say they close at 9 but at 8:15 they are shutting the place down. At 9 they quickly help you out the door. Ive walked in at 8:50 and 8:52 and both times the grill and kitchen we already shut. They did offer me a soda lol... even their beer nozzles were off "soaking" so I couldn't even do that. Been getting tired of eating the same burger joints (Burger lounge, InNOut, Shake Shack, Freddy, etc). Found this place out and decided to give it a try. I'm so glad we went. They know how to make burgers and it had a very home cooked feel to it. It was cooked medium (pink inside) and they served with a nice fluffy brioche bun. The fries were very tasty and fried perfectly. They offered various sauces too which was cool. I just tried their own signature sauce and it was decent. Prob will try their other sauces next visit. Finally made it to Burger Bench in Escondido, at the recommendation of a friend. Great food, friendly staff and nice vibe with indoor and outdoor seating. They offer a slider sampler, which is a fun way to try several burgers. We got the fig jam burger (slider), fried chicken slider and chorizo slider. All delicious! I was impressed that none of them were overcooked -- easy to do on a small patty or piece of chicken, but clearly burger bench has this figured out. We got a half & half order of onion rings and truffle Parmesan tots. The rings were a little too breaded for me (still good) and the tots were awesomely crispy. Next time, we'll try the traditional tots and sweet potato fries. They have epic-looking handmade milkshakes, so we shared a mud pie shake that was thick, rich and YUM.
