We found this mom and pop gem in Escondido and this is a must try! Come support a local business! The owner is a sweet Turkish lady who runs a small shop selling amazing loaded potatoes. She takes great pride in her recipe creations but you can also build your own potato. The shop is very small so it's more of a to go place but she does have a few small tables outside if you choose to enjoy your food there. The loaded potatoes are priced $10-12 which is very fair for the large portions. One potato will fill you up! My favorite was the Mexican street corn! Make sure to get the hot Cheetos topping. She runs the business on her own from managing the register, to taking orders, and making the potatoes herself so note on busy days, it can be a wait (we waited 30 mins). She gives you an ETA so we ended up walking around and coming back but it may be best to call in your order and pickup. Would definitely return for more! :) read more

Delicious baked potatoes! My husband brought the Street Corn Kumpir home for us to try and we will be back for more! The potato is perfectly cooked and mixed with cheese before being put back into the potato skin. The toppings of roasted corn and house made sauces were perfect. Today my wife and I tried California Kumpir based on a recommendation from a friend. First, the woman who owns the shop is a sweet heart. There is no dinning in, which is perfect for us. They have two small table to sit and talk outside while you wait. My wife ordered a simple baked Potato which she enjoyed. I ordered the Chicken Bit with the toppings. My wife enjoyed the way the potato was cooked. Mine was excellent. The skin of the potato had a nice crunchy texture. The inside was mashed. The toppings were very generous and well proportioned making it very flavorful. The price was very reasonable. The food arrived pretty quickly. I didn't time it, but I don't think we waited more than 10 minutes. They're five star in my book. I look forward to trying one of the other options. read more

If you are checking reviews (like I did) because you had never heard of "kumpir" let me tell you straight out this place is worth your time and money! The easiest corollary for a kumpir is a "loaded baked potato" but honestly I am doing it a disservice to call it that because it is so much more! Seriously watch a video or something so you can understand how these amazing dishes are made. They're chocked full of toppings and the potatoes are consistently large, I haven't weighed any of mine but I probably should if I had to guess it's over a pound when it is all said and done. The service is great both times I've been there the woman running the place has been so cordial and it's just a delight to speak to her. These are the kinds of places that you think of when you think of "mom & pop" the kind you feel like you are contributing to the community and not some soulless corporation bent on nickel and diming us. The place is in a strip mall so it's certainly not fine dining (I mean Vintanas is in a car dealership but that's an outlier) they do have a table inside and multiple tables out front. I think it would be okay for a nice lunch with someone but we prefer to do takeout and the food travels easily. A single kumpir is more than enough for a meal and the prices are cheaper than a fast food combo. I hope to work my way through all the ones on the menu and figure out which is my favorite but so far the meat lovers with jalapenos is in the lead (thank you whomever shared a pic of theirs it's delicious). I mean I can say it again this place is absolutely worth your time and money in fact you are doing yourself dirty by not trying this place at least once! read more

I saw a post on Facebook about this place so I had to check it out. It's a small hole in the wall, easily missed if you don't know it's there. When I walked in it smelled delicious, like walking into mom's kitchen, warm and butter and made me hungry. I heard a voice from the back say, "Be with you in just a moment". It has a small but very intriguing menu, great flavor combinations, as well as build-your-own options. The owner, Sheila, is very sweet and friendly and has a way making you feel very welcome. I ordered the traditional and the Mexican corn. She treated me to a Turkish tea while I waited for my food. As she bagged up my food she asked if I would like to sample a dessert she had been working on. It was delicious, not too sweet. We talked about things that could be added to it, she is a truly wonderful woman. The whole experience was delightful, and once I got home and tried the food it was amazingly delicious!
