SO DAMN GOOD. I got the breakfast burger and Parmesan tots to share, and it was sooooo yummy. Good flavors, I don't know whats in the bench sauce but I was SO into it. The only reason why I'm not a 5 star, is because I asked for my burger medium and it was well done, there was not a stitch of pink in it, and if cooked properly, it would have been perfect. The service was great, I really appreciate the girl with the colorful eyebrows, she was super hospitable and very pleasant. Everyone that worked there was hustling, but still had a smile on their face, and as someone who works in customer service, I know that is instilled through company culture and finding employees who fit that. Really really appreciate this place and will definitely be back, hopefully next time, the burger will be cooked to the specifications given. read more

We love this place, & Derek is our favorite restaurant owner! This was our first trip for breakfast, & it did not disappoint. Between all of us we tried the breakfast sandwich, the Lumberjack breakfast, chocolate chip pancakes & strawberry pancakes. All super yummy! My one criticism is that there should be a plain coffee option with free refills. Paying an additional $3 for a second cup was disappointing. read more

Found this place on Yelp and the photos looked yummy. Ambience is nice, but there was no where to sit. It's good for them to be busy, but when you're fighting for seats it's not pleasant. Shivered outside for a few minutes, then snagged seats at the bar when another couple left. The bar seats were so uncomfortable I ended up just standing up while I ate. The food took about 25 minutes to arrive, and all we ordered was 1 burger, 1 salad, 1 order of wings and 1 side of tots. The burger and salad came out first but the other half of our order never came. After eating the salad, we asked about the rest of the food and finally got it. Tots were hot and crispy, but a little too much seasoning. The burger was smaller than expected and wasn't juicy, and the bun was rather tough. The croutons on the salad are actually slices of garlic toast, and the Caesar salad dressing was bitter tasting, maybe too much vinegar. The wings were more crispy-fried than I was expecting. Also, when eating them, I noticed a couple of them had bones that were actually broken open, showing the inside of the bone matter. I've never seen that any other time when I ordered wings and it grossed me out. Also, one of the wings had purple colored dark meat, but all the rest were white meat. One of the staffers almost took my food away when I wasn't done, but maybe I should have let him so I wouldn't eat any more. Disappointed and won't be going back. read more

Fabulous, new and delicious!!!! This restaurant has something for everyone including Gluten Free and Vegan options!!! Highly recommend the Bench Burger!!! This burger has it all....humanely farmed Angus beef, fresh daily made brioche buttery bun toasted with garlic and butter, mild blue cheese that melts so perfectly with the crispy onion, bacon& BBQ sauce. Fun fact: all of their sauces are homemade as well. The other big highlight for me, besides above selection of craft beers on tap are the Fried Salt-n-Pepper Chicken Wings. Super crispy, savory and fresh. We tried the Sweet Spicy Chili and Ranch dipping sauces. I especially enjoyed the Sweet Spicy Chili sauce. We also tried the Crispy Chicken sandwich with apples & tzatziki sauce...super fresh, sweet and savory. Overall this restaurant gets a 5 Star from me due to the delicious and fresh food, incredible and outgoing staff, fun beer selections and ambiance. read more

went here for the first time yesterday and this place is seriously amazing. initially it was hard to find because the sign was kind of obscure and we're not from the area, but we eventually found it. they have a counter where you order at then sit down to get your food. we got the bench burger, chicken sandwich, fries and a soda. first impression was that this place was very "hipster" (I. e. fair trade soda...) but the food was AMAZING. my chicken sandwich has apple (sounds weird) on it and it was seriously so good I can't stop thinking about it. the burger was good too and obviously fries are always good. definitely coming back asap read more

The staff were terrible. I feel that the staff was burdened by me. It was uncomfortable. I told them their seats had screws backing out of the holes and someone is going to get hurt. They have residential quality bar stools that aren't rated for high traffic use. They were about to collapse as we ate we wiggled back and forth on them. I almost slipped off the chair that I sat in. Plus, there is a hard counter behind the table that someone could strike with their head as they went down.. Lawsuit waiting to happen in my opinion. I told the lead with the backwards hat on, "that the screws were half backed out of the chair's supports" and he told me, "we just opened and we are working on it." It has been two months. He just brushed me aside as a burden then laughed with the breaded guy drinking beer. The chairs are not safe. As I sat and ate, the lead with the backwards hat and a breaded guy in black and black apron laughed. They talked causally behind me about the issue. The breaded guy was drinking beer and the backwards hat guy hovered over us on the back counter. The experience ruined it for me. I had nothing to gain by telling them about the chair and I was treated as if I was complaining. The restaurant is confusing. It feels like a sit down and order style restaurant but one orders at the front and takes a number back to the table. I ordered a burger but it didn't come with fries our group waited back in line to buy some fries. However, the soda machine is really cool and has different type of specialty sodas. It was the highlight of the night. Additionally, there are options for buying different local beers which was nice. Closes early so make sure not to delay when getting there. Was very packed and the lay out felt cramped. It is very simpler to Plan 9 Ale house which is a block away except not as good. The food is great. I ordered the classic burger and truffle fries. Solid food no complaints. I don't recommend this place. I had a bad experience with the atmosphere and the staff. Plus, the layout is not optimal. However, if you like endless specialty soda then it is nice. read more

By far the best burger and beer joint in Escondido. The Diablo burger was amazing. Perfect Portion of patti to chorizo with a nice kick of jalepeno. Add tots to finish the meal. Great array of selections on tap. Person at the register mentioned there was a 25 min wait. As the line was out the door. The restaurant was packed. The people were friendly and I wouldn't mind waiting to have a delicious burger. read more

First time for me today. I ate the Bench Burger, nibbled on some friends' onion rings and truffle fries, and had some of my friend's oreo shake. When I bit into the Bench Burger. Woo! Loved it! I've had a couple of better burgers in my day, but this was probably in my top three burgers I've eaten. The truffle fries are by far addicting. The onion rings were good, even though I'm not a super big fan of onion rings. The oreo shake, when they become available to the public, are OUT OF THIS WORLD. We got a shake as it was my friend's birthday and the first word I said when I took a bite was, "WOW!" IT WAS SO GOOD! I definitely recommend them! read more

The service was good friendly staff as well as the sodas and beer. Im a huge burger fan and enjoy a tasty Burger. We ordered 2 burgers here the sunrise in which looks better in picture but not so tasty, maybe some seasoning on the egg or burger would definitely help. Second Burger ordered was the bench burger was good but not great but there was definitely more flavor to it. Fries and tots were also good. The Burger Bench is one of our "go to" places in Escondido. Not only are their burgers amazing they also have a great selection of locally brewed craft beers. We are big fans of Burger Bench. I love how they use produce from the local farmers market and use local businesses for their buns. The burgers are all delicious-we have tried them all. The truffle fries are fantastic. The sodas are the all natural fountain drinks--they're decent, but a little "hippie" for my taste. Otherwise, Burger Bench has become our favorite burger place. It's not overly heavy like many other burger places, and the fresh produce makes a big difference. read more

The food here is soooo good! Burger Bench is located right on Grand Ave in the heart of Escondido. It's nice to have a good, quality food in downtown. My favorite is the smokehouse burger, it is delicious! I love that everything here is locally sourced. Yes, this place is a little pricier than a fast food joint but the quality is amazing and it feels good to contribute to my community, all around. The tots are also TO DIE FOR! They always have a good beer and wine selection, all local as well. The staff is also really knowledgeable on the craft beer selection so they are quick to make recommendations, if needed. The only negative thing I would say is that sometimes it gets crowded so finding a table can be hard. That only means that the company is doing amazing though! 10/10 would recommend!!! read more

Just had lunch at this awesome spot. Great beer selection, with three $4 pint choices that I hadn't seen anywhere else. Staff was extremely friendly and good was phenomenal. GRILLED CHEESE and SLIDER TRIO. Very different choices on the sliders with chorizo and fried chicken, but everything was GREAT! Bad seating is unique with the skylights letting in tons of sunlight.
