A pleasant surprise! I am generally a big fan of the new gourmet burger fad, but the Burger Hut does make a good burger. Convenient to where I was working one of my colleagues was heading out for "a burger" I asked him to grab me one and he came back with one of the tastier burgers I've ever had. Fresh meat, fresh toppings and cooked to perfection. It even traveled well (you know what I mean - some stuff you just gotta eat there). Absolute Delish and they use quality ingredients! All their meat is 100% grass fed and they get their produce from S&S! Aaaaand they have gluten free buns for those of us who are sensitive to gluten :) My fave is a veggie burger with grilled onions, mushrooms, and provolone on a gluten free bun. All the staff is great and they can accommodate most requests to make you just what you want. read more

Wow, so disappointed. Burger Hut was by far the best burger in town and my buddies and I always look forward to going back when we are Town. We would frequent the one on Nord Avenue years ago. Our burgers were over cooked and they mixed up our orders. Patties were too thin and didn't have the usual BBQ sauce. The Fries were great and the staff was friendly and the place was clean. We will try it again next trip. Maybe just an off day. read more

I LOVE Burger Hut! They have really good burgers and fries. My partner had the chicken patty once and thought it was delicious. I love their secret BBQ sauce and that other sauce. I enjoy serving my own toppings. Out of my 100 visits there, I've only had 1 bad experience where there were a few people ahead of me and I placed my order thinking it would just take an extra 10-15 mins than normal, turns out there were so many people there and we're ordering a lot of food. (Kids sports? Or something like that.) I was waiting for almost an hour, I told them to cancel my order and get me a refund because I couldn't wait any longer. They were very apologetic and I had my meal "free" on my next visit. (I didn't get my meal that day, but saved it for a next time) i was happy again! came here with my wife and child to have a nice lunch, but when i bit into my burger i noticed it a bit to pink. My wife had the same issue very pink almost not even cooked. so we returned our burgers and new ones were made yet both had pepper jack cheese instead of cheddar and one on wheat bun the other an onion bun. we had to wait 20 additional minutes for them to fix it. yet was not right twice. Do I really have to say much? i miss the old one that used to be on Nord. I live right next to the old place, so now I am right dab in the middle of both. But still completely satisfied with this one. Haven't gone to the other one. It really doesn't get better than this though in terms of burgers. You order a burger and then you top it with sauces and toppings. Its like a fun make your own burger BBQ style. The rootbeer they have on tap is delicious too. Try it. I decided to try the online ordering tonight. I arrived at the time my order was scheduled to be ready. I explained to the employee that I had an online order and she looked it up and found the order. She told me the amount due and I explained that I already paid online. Another employee pointed out that the receipt showed 0.00 balance due. After that I was given the two hamburgers and I proceeded to the condiment bar and set up the hamburgers. I took them back to the counter and they wrapped them up. The employee explained that they were waiting on the fries and onion rings. About 10 minutes later I was told my order was ready. I was disappointed with the online ordering and follow through. There were customers that arrived at the same time as I did and ordered their food when they arrived. They were receiving their food at the same time my order was ready. In the future it might be more productive to just go to the restaurant and order there, then at least that way the food will be fresh and warm. read more

If you're in Chico and want a good burger, this wouldn't be a bad place to stop. Burgers cooked to order, with a bunch of meat, and you put the lettuce, tomato, pickles, ketchup, mustard, peppers, etc. on yourself. That means it was hot and fresh, and the toppings and bun were in great shape (unlike what you'd get at 5 Guys). The fries come in a big basket, too, so a half order might be enough. read more

The burger meat is frozen and not made in house, the fries come out of a freezer bag that I'm sure arrived on a truck a week or more ago. They play grill master but in reality just heat up store bought food. You can make better burgers at home for a fraction of the cost and ditch the disgustingly sticky / dirty dining room, or go with out the flies and kids hands in the salad bar!!! I am continually unimpressed with their burgers. Their prices are steep for how small their burgers are. Their fries are a lot better then their burgers. They have a serve yourself burger bar which really takes anything unique out of their burgers. It's just a burger that you add lettuce to yourself. Not to mention the staff is never very polite. I don't eat meat so I eat a lot of veg burgers. They're ok here but expensive and nothing special. HOWEVER - I once ordered their "fish and chips"...what a mistake!!! What I got was a seriously dried up little triangle of something crusted over with a fish taste and a huge pile of fries. More fries than any one person should eat. I'm guessing that everyone orders burgers and I was one of two for the year that ordered the pile 'o fries with the fish puck. It defined the worst meal I ever paid for! Worst service I have ever had at a restaurant. I have been a customer here for 15+ years and I will never spend another dime in this place all because of the employees. Food quality has gone downhill in a big way. It is passable, but only barely and at the price it is an outright ripoff. Staff is useless and more interested in joking around in the back than cleaning the store or attending to customers. If you come in anywhere near closing time be warned, you will be met with scorn for showing up at 10 till 9. People, there are better places in town to get a burger, this is not Chico 10 years ago, we have options now. Try Nobby's, Dog House, Pour House, Burgers and Brew, Big Chico Burger. Any of those options are far superior to anything you will get at this festering pit. I will never spend another dime in this place. I hope you all go out of business. BTW, the goal of customer service should not be to make a customer want to throw a chair through your window. You are all lucky I have some morals, because that is exactly what I wanted to do. --Update: I went down to Burger hut (I had to get my money back since they charged me and did not provide any food) and spoke with the owner. She did not make this easy because she was very nice and accommodating, and I was still fuming. She gave me a refund, apologised profusely and gave me a gift card to make up for it. This is the third time I have been to this location. The first time was good. The second time was okay. But this time. I'm very disappointed. First off, the employee at the front counter was helpless. They might have been new or just not knowledgable. They were not very responsive and lacked character. Adding additional sides on your burger is expensive which I was not warned about while ordering. I ended up paying $17 for a small dry patty with some special cheese and grilled mushrooms. A decent size pile of fries, but let's be honest here, fries are grease soaked starch and I'd rather have a larger patty than a heaping pile of greasy fries for a $17 meal. Summer Road tripping to Chico with my sister-in-law, I insisted we hunt down a Burger Hut and see if it was as good as I remembered it being in my college days. Warning her I was usually hung over when her husband, my brother, and I would eat here so my taste and memory could be slightly hazy. This was my first trip, for what was to me, a new location. A newer strip mall on the North East side of town. Easy to find, easy parking, all around easy access. Inside was very clean and new. Young college guys at an open grill area where you can watch your meat sizzling away. Self serve fountain drink area and the toppings bar filled with fresh veggies and sauces waiting to be topped. So yes we were in the right place and my haze was lifting. We both ordered that days special burger in a combo meal. The burger would have blue cheese crumble, mini onion rings, BBQ sauce and I don't even know what else because they had me at that. Ticket went to the kitchen and we filled out drinks and waited. A few minutes later hearing our names over the loud speaker we went up and got our basket of fries and burger. They have shoe string style fries unsalted. Right at pick up there is a shaker of season salt that's a must. Then you get to topping this delight. It already had BlueC, OnionR's and BBQ remember. I only added their fry style sauce that's always there and sweet pickles. DELISH!! I was transported right back to college, hungover enjoying the wild life. It was just as good as I remembered, even through the haze. My sister-in-law was even more impressed than I, being a BH virgin and all. We wolfed down everything, leaving a battlefield of BBQ'd napkins in our wake, refilled our beverages and hit the hwy! Thanks BH for always having quality and consistency! YUM!! Burger hut is spread out across three locations in Chico. The food is identical but the experience is different. I generally visited this one more frequently because it was close by, clean, open and very cool in the summer time. Overall this location makes a great 'neighborhood special' and I always enjoy the burger bar to make it. The guys cooking usually give a generous amount of fries. Their sauce is AWESOME. . . seriously they should bottle that stuff and sell it, it's great for fries too! A great Chico tradition to come here. The original Burger Hut on Nord was the best in my opinion. This one is good. We usually get it to go because it's so busy at times. The burgers just don't taste the same to me as the original ones did. But the fries are the same. I have only experienced nice, friendly service every time I've come in to the cohasset location. There used to be a female employee there that was rude to my husband on a call in order but I haven't seen her in a while. This is one of our favorite places to eat. My kids love it. They get the salad bar and I get a quarter pounder patty (no bun--Paleo!) and load it with all the fresh veggies. I've always liked Burger Hut, and I enjoy their prepare it yourself type of establishment. You order whatever you want from the front counter then they cook your burger plain, with maybe BBQ sauce, then you load up on whatever toppings you want. I don't know why this restaurant doesn't have higher reviews but I'm glad I didn't read them prior to choosing a place to dine during my recent trip to Chico. I don't easily impress & I was very impressed as was my self proclaimed burger connoisseur husband. We're from Redding & don't know Chico well so I do tend to read reviews before going to most new-to-me restaurants. I wish there was a Burger Hut in Redding!! I ordered fish & chips. My husband ordered the special which was topped with sauteed onions & bleu cheese crumbles. The fish was cooked to perfection! It's so hard to find really tasty fish that is cooked correctly & not burned. The oil it was cooked in tasted fresh & the shoestring style fries were actually really good too. I'm not typically a fan of them because the majority of my experience with them is from in In~N~Out where they are always overcooked & over salted. These were not. They were still pliable but certainly cooked... to perfection, if that's possible for shoestring fries! My husband's burger was still a bit pink in the middle & very flavorful. The onions appeared & tasted as though they were sauteed before topping the burger. The bleu cheese was melty on top & didn't fall off the burger like they do in some restaurants who add crumbles at the last minute taken from a very cold piece. He also ordered an Oreo milkshake which was truly the best flavored milkshake either of us has had in years. The small was plentiful & topped with an abundance of whipped cream. We don't eat out often because it's almost always a disappointment versus what I make at home. I cook & bake very well so we tend to be very choosy about where we eat & most of the time, we don't go back for one reason or another; Typically food, service, or overall ambiance. This restaurant is located off E. Eaton Ave, which is somewhat off the beaten path, which we were grateful for. The ambiance is relaxed & the ceilings are very high which allow for a feeling of a bigger dining area. The dining area as a whole is a fair size & most of the tables are booths. There is outdoor seating with bench style seats & tables, complete with umbrellas at each seating arrangement. To those who've down rated the restaurant due to smoke, re-read that... DUE. TO. SMOKE. What year was that? Was it during the year Redding was burning down due to the Carr fire or was it the following year when Paradise was burning down? How is a restaurant responsible for weather conditions? People never cease to amaze me. The service was pretty good & the staff was friendly enough. I think they, like most of us, tend to put out what they get. I'd say they were fine. Maybe those who've noted the staff wasn't great, experienced a different crowd, but we were pleased with the service rendered. The restaurant was new to us & we liked the novelty of topping our own burger. My husband's burger came loaded with cheese & really delicious sauteed onions & he was able to add the perfect amount of his own sauce, lettuce, tomato, onions, a couple different types of pickles, & more. On the sauce side, my meal came with a container of tartar sauce & I was able to choose from an abundance of sauces ranging from malt vinegar to hot sauce to bbq sauce to a house made "fry" sauce which is typically a mixture of ketchup & mayo but here it seems the ketchup has been replaced with bbq sauce! MY FAVORITE! There is a small & simple salad bar which was stocked with fresh ingredients. I'll give that a try next time as well as try a 1/4lb burger. A couple in front of us each ordered a 1/4lb burger which looked to be of honest size & appeared to be topped generously with cheese & other goodies. Overall, there is nothing my husband or I could come up with to complain about & as mentioned previously, we are particular diners. Burger hut used to be my favorite burger place in town. With the added nostalgia of trips there with my dad as a kid. My last three takeout food trips there however have been a sad letdown. I've consistently gotten burgers cooked to hockey pucks with hard, unmelted slices of cheese and french fries that are cold and chewy from the get-go. As well as messy/warm topping stations. I think it's safe to say I won't be going here for my burger fix anymore when there are better places in chico for the same price. read more

We love going here for lunch or dinner. The last few times I've been in, Melody has provided excellent customer service! She is so friendly and helpful! Burger hut, well, it's a burger joint with the food being a hit or miss situation. Prices are fairly high in my opinion, 22 bucks for 2 combos but it's a local place so whatever. My boyfriend can eat Burger Hut all of the time, but I on the other hand, am I little harder to please. I usually get the grilled or breaded chicken burger with onion rings and 4 out of 5 times it'll be amazing but it depends on the cook! The cook is why I'm only giving them 4 stars. The male employees seem to be on their game, busting out some amazing food, but most of the female staff seem to be more concerned with talking and standing around...and being a woman I don't like thinking this way. The tables don't get wiped down as soon as the customer leaves even when it's not busy and they do have the time to wipe the table down before the next customer wants to sit there. So maybe it's not the food I have an issue with but more so some of the staff, it's not everyone granted but some. Try the food because it is good but the staff, eh, not so much. read more

Burger was OK... Quality of service not very good. Soda in fountain tasted like other sodas, as if the lines not cleaned often. So we replaced with tea, which was nearly fermented. We settled on lemonade. Difficult to see or speak due to all the smoke from the "cooking" burning of the burgers. Although after we received our food, the burgers and fries were 3.5/5.
