My daughter went with the blue cheese burger special, her boyfriend took on the bacon jalapeño burger, and I went straight for the pastrami burger. Every one of them came out looking like a culinary masterpiece. The blue cheese had that perfect balance... bold but not overpowering as they are want to be. Her boyfriend said the bacon jalapeño brought just enough heat to keep things interesting without stealing the show, probably too weak for me ;). My pastrami burger was a heavyweight... stacked, savory, and the kind of messy you don't even try to clean up until you're done. Think Katz deli melding with a west coast hip scene burger. Now let's talk onion rings... because these deserve it. Golden, crispy, and just the right crunch when you bite in. Not greasy, not soggy, just dialed in exactly how they should be. Add the garlic sauce and now you're playing a different game altogether. That sauce is not optional, it's essential and fabulous on everything. The beer selection is deep, the kind where you stand there for a minute pretending you're making a thoughtful decision when really you just want to try everything. Downtown Chico can make you work a little for it. But once you're inside, with a cold beer in hand and a burger staring you down, you won't care how far you walked. I'm local. I hadn't been there for probably a year. The five star reviews seem to be from OOT parents dropping their kids off at Chico State, people who wouldn't notice if a penguin took a dump in their French fries, because they're understandably absorbed in their fleeing children's every word and deed on an emotional weekend. Burgers are "meh", and my only reason for going back is that they have an ok lamb burger, which I haven't otherwise found north of Sacramento (where there are much better lamb burgers). The place is absolutely filthy. Greasy fingerprints on every surface that could possibly display them. Spill residue and trash everywhere. There's absolutely no way that my wife would eat here. She hasn't been there in years, and now would turn around and leave as soon as she saw the place. Looking around while eating, I couldn't finish my meal, and I left. And I'm pretty easy. I like dives, but not filth. I don't think that this is meant to be a dive, AND it's progressively become a s******e. And, all the while, the "manager", who didn't appear to "manage" anything, except for conversation and passing out free beer samples to his buddies at the bar (one of whom was clearly, from their banter, a fired former employee), did nothing else but gossip and bitch about higher management, while the employees also had multiple free beer samples, and stood around and chatted with each other. While the environment grew even more disgusting. Shouldn't these people be trying to at least keep the the place presentable, if not really clean? Isn't this a regional chain? I'm sure that no one from Sacramento has been here recently. I don't like to see a business fail, but this one deserves to. read more

I was moving my son into the dorms last weekend and we wanted to go out to dinner with some of his new soccer teammates and their families. We have been to Burgers N Brew in Davis and West Sacramento often so we knew it would be a great bet! I ordered my usual (Bacon Bleu Cheese Burger with a salad) and my son ordered a steak sandwich for the first time! He said it was good, but I think he will stick to his usual next time (hot dog and fries). Our service was great. We were a group of 8 and the cashier had us order together but we paid separately on one tab. He said he wanted all of our food to come out at the same time. It was a weird way to do it, but it worked. The restaurant was very clean and inviting. We drank water and had to get up a few times to refill our cups. It would have been nice to have been offered a pitcher of water...but we also didn't ask for one. Everyone else enjoyed their food. Visited September 26th..see my receipt as always. After having suishi at the Rawbar ( awesome place) we did some shopping and saw this place and decided to check it out. It's a cool beer and burgers place with indoor and outside seating. It has a ton of beers to choose from! Although I am not a beer drinker we did try a few samples offered by Nico ( really nice and cordial employee). We decided on sharing a pale ale and got the garlic fries as well. We only nibbled on the fries because we had suishi awhile ago but we loved that there was alot of garlic on the crunchy fries! Very tasty! More leftovers! It had a nice cool and relaxing vibe. Burgers Done Right -- Props to the Latino Kitchen Crew Food solid 5 , but hygiene n cleanliness is critical -1(waste basket overflow, dirty towels on floors, empty toilet rolls on the floor tossed and on top of the toilet paper holder, spit on the floor and sink had food debris possible vomit) First time at Burgers n Brew and it hit the spot! We ordered the BLT with onion rings and an onion mushroom cheeseburger cooked medium-rare with steak fries -- juicy, full of flavor, and made just right. The BLT had that crisp chicharrón-style bite just as I asked for it, and the onion rings were golden and crunchy. Drinks were on point too -- an ice-cold 20 oz Sierra Nevada and a 16 oz Guinness that came out perfectly chilled. Only downside: the women's restroom really needed attention, especially considering there was enough staff on hand to keep it clean. But the Latino kitchen crew absolutely rocked it -- hardworking men putting out delicious food with pride and consistency. Major props to them! Went for the first time after just moving back into the area and was pretty disappointed with my meal. It was also more expensive than I remember but time will do that. First and last time I will visit this place. I ordered a mushroom burger with NO onions and NO bun. Also the garlic fries. They put onions on my burger and a bun when I clearly said no to both. Up charge for garlic fries, little to no garlic! The fries were awful. The hamburger patty was so dry, and there was what was equal to one mushroom sliced. The side of ranch and the ketchup tasted very old! I got water but couldn't drink it, it was like sewer water. I ended up getting a sprite that was ok. Very slow service for crappy food! Atmosphere was so loud with noise, I don't even think there was music playing. Never ever again! I feel like I'm going to throw up from the little amount of food that I did eat. We met a large group there for family weekend at my nieces sorority and this was a great spot to meet since we were all coming in slightly different times and it was good to all meet up for dinner. They had a great selection of barbecue including tri-tip, Lamb burgers, bison all sorts of choices. I got the tri-tip sandwich with a salad and it was great and they had a terrific beer special going on an Irish red ale. Overall everyone seemed very happy with the food and there was lots of outdoor seating so we could see people walking in Downtown. Chico is a fun place to have dinner on a nice night. The décor is wooden with a long bar for beers, inside and outdoor seating. You walk up to the register, order your burger of preference, sit at your table, and wait for your meal to be brought out to you. On this current day, my custom order was the Avocado Cheeseburger with the addition of a Portobello mushroom patty & slices of bacon; side of garlic curly fries is always palate pleasure. Our very friendly server brought out my party of 8's group of food with smile and charisma of a sunrise on a clear summer morning. The Russian River STS Pils set in front of was cold and just asking to be gulped down with immediacy. On first bite, the fluffy sesame seed bun did it's best to encase all the fresh lettuce, tomatoes, and onions within its circumference. The avocado slices were clean and plentiful. The seasoned patty of the portobello mushroom covered the 1/2 patty perfectly ensuring a taste of the toadstool on every bite. The 1/2 lb patty was a perfect medium-rare with a beautiful pinkish hue, seasoned well, with a detectable Maillard crust. It was a patty of ground beef so superb, whirling in on my taste buds, melding with all the toppings, and combining again in a swirl of savory flavors so delightful. Things change sadly. Service is no longer what it was for a good year or more now. Food used to come out quickly but now we wait almost triple the time. We used to feel so welcomed, now the employees while still nice, just want to get the job done. Price went up yet again and now they are charging for $0.50 for every sauce (we usually get three). The sauce thing is kind of the final straw as they use the excuse that it is because of waste but the only time we've ever wasted a sauce was when they brought us one we didn't want on their own accord. We feel it's just greed as we did the math and there's no way a small 1oz cup cost them that much; even at a profit it's unreasonable. The only minus is the cleanliness of the outdoor dining area but on a beautiful day you'll forget the mess. The staff is knowledgeable and courteous offering suggestions of beer on their many taps. Lots of options for different kinds of burgers, too. Everything needs seasoning. The meat is great but needs salt. Fries are okay but need salt. Onion rings are good but...need salt. Buns are huge. I know they need a big bun for a big burger, and while the buns are nice and soft, it's just a lot of bread. Really good shake. Two burgers with fries, an order of onion rings and one shake was $50. It's kind of pricey. It's not good enough that I'd ever say, "I'm craving burgers and brew," but if I'm there and hungry I'd shrug and go, "eh...ok." read more

Whenever I am in Chico, I meet my sister for lunch at Burgers and Brew. The food is very good and I can take my Chiweenie pup as there is outdoor seating. First of all, these burgers are huge. A 1/2 lb burger is way too much for me, which is why I only ate about half. But I got the standard hamburger, add bacon and jalapeños, cooked medium; with a side of garlic fries. It is not an understatement to say this is one the best burgers I've ever had. The flavors were outstanding and that smokey char flavor is amazing! I wasn't a super fan of the garlic fries, maybe it was the use of fresh garlic, I'm not sure but I found them to be really sticky without enough garlic flavor to justify it. Maybe my pallet was thinking more ballpark garlic fries which is the raw garlic and garlic salt/powder. But they weren't bad! I would definitely return to try other items on the menu. I was able to take my half burger and fries with me to enjoy later. And the service was fast and friendly. Sorry I didn't get any pictures this round. OMG, the flavors in these burgers and plates. All the food on the menu is amazing and I tried many burgers and plates. They have a large selection of local and imported beers. Service lacks a bit, I'm not sure if they are understaffed but every time I come, the waiter rarely comes around. The inside looks like an old pub with a lot of daylight, the table finishes are worn through and there are stained glass windows with beer-making history motifs. The food is the usual pub fare: burgers, sandwiches, soups, & salads. You have to order at the register and get assigned a number, they bring the food to your table and take the number stand. The server and cashier were one and the same and she was very helpful, friendly, and efficient. The food was good and good quality. At a time when everyone else is cutting back, my BLT has 8 pieces of bacon, two slices of tomato, lettuce, and the added avocado was an entire half of an avocado. While I drink very rarely these days I love going here for a beer and a brew occasionally. Their burgers are top notch and the Irish Cream Stout is fantastic. Everyone is friendly and accommodating. I had a really good time here today. They were ready busy when me and a friend walked in and told us there was going to be a long wait and so we just sat at the fire pit until they had a table ready. Fyi patio seating is ready popular on summer nights so get there and expect a a bit of a wait. It was definitly worth the wait since the lights go up and these section of downtown gets ready pretty as well. The sound level wasn't too loud and the car noise wasn't too bad. The waitress was super nice and apolagetic when she thought she was taking a long time but me and my friends didnt mind at all. I will say a crazy person on drug did get really close to the patio and caused a sma scene but that definitly did not detract fr.the menu and the whole vibe. Burgers also has a humongous selection of beers on tap. It took me quite a while to figure out what I wanted. The bar gets your drinks out fast as well so I really appreciate it. The restrooms are always not I'm bad shape here. The other waiters and waitresses were friendly and even topped our water when they had a bit left from toppling their tables off. When it came to paying time, our waitress informed us that someone had left a 10 $ gift card to pay for our meal and it made my friends day so much better ( friend was having a shitty day). It was very heartwarming and shows you that the people that frequent this place are amazing and kind people and I think that definitly reflects the values of the owners and the employees as well. I was with a group of 11 people, a dog, and an infant in a stroller when I visited Burgers and Brew on Black Friday. We had to sit on the patio because we had the dog and we had to split up into three groups as there was not one table that could accommodate us all outside. My husband and I split the double burger, which was so big, I could barely finish my half. I saw a table of young men boxing up halves of burgers--when you see that you know for sure they are big burgers. The burger was delicious. Everyone in the group of 11 enjoyed their food. The decor was very cozy and comfy with warm lighting and a personable giant board with all the possible choices. Cashier was very nice and made it more efficient to order because I happen to be in a big party. It was quite quick taking around 10 minutes to bring the food out. Onto the food. The burger I got was the Chili Cheeseburger and the chili was very tasty and cooked to perfection. The servers were polite and asked if we needed any sides or anything else. My only gripe was that the fries were just okay. The burger was delicious but the fries unfortunately didn't match. I actually had great service, quick too. But the burgers here are dryer than the Sahara Desert. If I was a supervillain trying to dry up the oceans I'd just buy a burger from here and throw it in the Pacific. My roommate told me that he's always hated tomatoes, but one day his ex made him eat here and he didn't tell them to remove the tomatoes because he knew how dry it would be. That's how he found out he actually likes tomatoes- they didn't save the burger, though. I don't get the hype behind this place. Update: I came back super tipsy one day and got a chili dog. Yes, I know that's weird. I don't understand how you could drown something in that much sauce and still have it be dry. They actually made a liquid taste dry. That's impressive. We waited 30 minutes in line plus 55 minutes for our food which was definitely not worth the wait. As it was cold from sitting on the counter because they had reused our table number multiple times prior to realizing that we had been skipped. I brought this issue to the managers attention and requested a refund. She explained that she could NOT issue the refund due to our (incorrect) order finally arriving to our table as I was expressing my concerns. This to me was poorly handled and could have easily been rectified by issuing a refund for the extended inconvenience. This manager was unapologetic and completely unphased by my concerns as she stated "go ahead and YELP us"! The server wasn't any better and was completely annoyed as well as she threw the fries on our table and said " enjoy" . I really do hope that someone in upper management sees this review and expresses to their employees the importance of quality customer service in the near future. read more

We really enjoyed the cheeseburger and spicy guac burgers, although they could have used some salt. The house salad was excellent, and our fries and onion rings were also good. However, the diet Coke I was given was undrinkable. As soon as I saw it, I knew their mix needs to be calibrated because it was ext pale in color and more like strong soda water.
