Delicious meal @ The Cheese Steak Shop in Chico, CA. !! I placed a to-go order at the counter with a fine young gentlemen, who was courteous and friendly. The restaurant itself was modest and somewhat dated, but clean with an ample amount of tables and chairs. There were also straightforward instructions on a wall and a detailed menu above the ordering counter. We enjoyed a full Western Cheesesteak, half of a Classic, and perfectly cooked curly fries. Everything was delicious! The tender meat and melted cheese paired great with their fresh, flavorful hot & sweet peppers!! We would eat here again when we make it back to Chico for sure! Food was good but the cashier was super rude. A couple people walked in after us to order while we were waiting and her tone and demeanor towards the customers was just not it. Maybe she was just having a bad day but it could hear the annoyance in her voice, i thought it was just me until i heard her speak to other customers that way as well. read more

So I originally called to make a complaint which I'm not actually not going to talk about surprisingly because as a yelper, you're supposed to remind people where to get good food. The food was delicious. There was one small problem and at this point again, not a big deal because I appreciate good customer service more than anything. Nobby owners... I want you to know Cordelia has the most wonderful customer service skills in what I'm assuming is a fairly young lady. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know you did good tonight Cordelia again not that I was calling to be ugly or anything. To preface, this is my first time having cheesesteak so take my opinions with a grain of salt I asked the cashier what he recommends and he recommended the classic so I got that one, he asked what size and pointed to me towards the wall of which had a poster of half, large, and king size. I picked large. He asked if I wanted grilled onions I said yes. Asked if I wanted hot and sweet peppers, I said no hot but yes sweet. Cheesesteak was delicious, the peppers were carrying in flavor. Difficult to bite cleanly but thats just how it is. Layout: The front walls are windows, you enter and most of the room is grid like placed tables and chairs. To the back is the cashier, above that are the menus, to the right back are the soda/water dispensers (I realized I should take pictures of the inside more often) Extra notes: The cashier was very friendly and chill I read a review that said the large size is super small and I would agree by looking at it but idk if its just me but I personally had my fill after eating half of it and had to save the rest for later Nice place, nothing more to say, I just came here to give the menus lol 4 stars instead of 5 cause I think personally phillys aren't my thing, it wasn't super flavorful but still good food. I love this place but lately the king Philly I order is very hit and miss. One order will be barely any cheese the next order they scimp on peppers. I order onion rings every time and the last 3-4 times I ordered the onion rings they're over cooked and or burnt. They also scimp on the amount of onion rings and I get small overcooked crumbles of onion rings. I won't be ordering here for a while now. Bummer. read more

This place isn't anything to write home about... As a matter of fact, it's not worth the gas for another visit even if it was free. The "large" Philli cheesesteak is enough to feed a small toddler at best, and contained more vegetables than anything else. The taste was bland and subpar in comparison to other cheesesteaks I have had during my many travels. I suspect they are still in business due to not having much of a rival market in Chico... If (4) anorexic cheesesteak sandwiches, (2) orders of portion controlled overcooked curly fries, and a $70 bill is acceptable to new potential customers reading this, don't complain afterward and say I didn't warn you. read more

One of my favorite spots for a hearty lunch. When I lived in Chico, I'd come here whenever I wanted my cheesesteak fix. They are truly the best in town - and I've tried the cheesesteaks from just about every other local spot. The last time I was here visiting, I had to give them a go. The interior and menu were virtually unchanged from when I frequented the spot 10-15 years ago, and the same gentleman (the owner?) was still working behind the counter! Very basic but clean decor. They have a variety of Philadelphia-specific items like Tasty Kakes. Their sandwich selection is vast but I always tend to gravitate toward their flagship, the King of Philly. It's huge! The perfectly-cooked steak paired with the sweet peppers, cheese and soft bread is a true match made in heaven. Pair it with their curly fries and you've got a solid meal (or 2-3 meals, it's a lot of food). Very good, though. I will surely be back the next time I find myself in Chico! read more

Called in a Classic Philly Cheesesteak & "The Hoagie" with a side of Large Onion Rings at 11:15am today. I headed over 15 minutes later and as promised my food was packed up ready to go. I cashed out a little over $28 and proceeded to leave. I get all the way home and notice that I was only given ONE sandwhich! I guess I partly blame me as I did not thoroughly check my order prior to leaving the store. What I thought was a cherry ontop of the cake was when I went into the store (I guess the Owner or Head Cook) is holding my sandwhich said "Here you are! Just made you a fresh one! Just pulled it off the grille 60 seconds ago" as he glances to the clock on the wall behind me. First off..... the bag was not even warm. It was the temperature of a steak that had been off the grill sitting right there on that rack for at least 15 minutes. No need to lie to me. Just take ownership, but you straight up did not make me a "new sandwhich" that just finished within 60 seconds ago like you claim. I'm really not trying to be petty, but this is what you indeed just looked at me and said. As my first time there as a customer it was a small mistake that had me leaving the establishment feeling odd. Almost as if they were mocking me at this point or they were blaming me for the mistake or something. Idk...but hey!!! Besides all that jazz the food was fine. I have been in many times but the last few times I have been in there is a cook who blatantly has rolled his eyes and rolled his head back in annoyance 45 minutes before closing when I have ordered. If I could rate just the quality of the food I'd give an extra star. The front counter service was really good, but there were a couple of guys in the back who were really upset with the cashier for some reason. He had done something wrong apparently and these two guys were just fuming about it. Something about the french fries on the previous order. The cashier was obviously pretty bummed at being chewed out. I was extremely uncomfortable. The particularly angry guy was wearing a yellow shirt. He was young, maybe late 20s, in good physical shape. He was very angry though and I could see him mumbling f words under his breath in the back.
