This is the maple BBQ Whopper with bacon and cheese. This is what I was promised.
    Dan L.

I had seen all the online videos about how the CEO of Burger King decided to receive phone calls and make things better. Well he had obviously not been to this particular Burger King. Let's break it down, shall we? Full disclosure? I was an assistant manager at a Burger King in willows California in the early 1980s. So I understand how a Burger King should be run. I am strictly basing my review on my experience and the food itself, I did not go into the restaurant but rather went through the drive-thru. For starters, there was only one other car in the other line when I arrived. I sat at the kiosk waiting for someone to talk to me after a good 4 to 5 minutes. Someone came on and said we'll be right with you. I sat there for an easy 10 minutes before they finally got back. Now they did apologize, but that did not really make me understand why there was such a pileup. There were not a lot of cars out front so I knew the restaurant wasn't busy. I was excited to try the new Whopper, and saw that they had the Maple barbecue Whopper with bacon and cheese, so I opted for that, went large, and then drove forward to the window. And there I sat Finally someone came to the window and gave me my Cherry Coke zero and straw. And then close the window. A few moments later. She came back and said, did I give you your drink? I said yes you did. She said I'll be right back with your food. A few minutes later she came back with the food, thanked me and I drove off. I got home, I opened the bag and was pleasantly surprised to see that everything was neatly placed in the bag rather than haphazardly thrown in, as I had experienced at some other fast food places. However, the big surprise was when I opened the box containing the Whopper. Now as you can see in my photos what the maple barbecue Whopper with bacon and cheese was supposed to look like, it was supposed to have fried onion slices and fried jalapenos, with bacon and cheese. Cheese. Was there cheese? Plainly see some cheese in there. Was there bacon? Yes, there was bacon that looked like it had been so thinly sliced with an exacto knife that I could barely see it on the hamburger. How about the fried onions and frieda jalapenos? Almost non-existent. It literally looked like someone had taken a pinch of graham cracker crumbs and put it on the hamburger top and bottom. The only thing holding it together was some barbecue sauce. The upside? My fries were hot. The hamburger was as warm as I was expecting, but you bite into it and and there was no flavor outside of a standard Whopper. Such a disappointment. Especially when you are paying for a premium sandwich. So here are my main complaints. The burger was absolutely not what I was expecting based on the photograph on the sign. Look I get it. They spend a lot of money to have food photographers make it look amazing but it should at least have some similarities to what you actually get in the bag. This was definitely not fast food, and I am still perplexed as to why it took so long to get the food to the vehicle.. or even take my order for that matter. As someone who was an assistant manager at a Burger King. I am familiar with policy and procedure. I don't know if this is the manager's fault, the district manager's fault or the franchisees fault, but there is a definite problem at this particular Burger King. Bottom line? Based on this experience, I doubt that I will ever return to this particular location, or another Burger King ever again. Again. You don't get a third chance to make a second impression.

I watched 3 employees go in there. I went to see. No one picked it up. It looks like the toilet hasn't been cleaned in forever. Ew! There were nasty looking rags on the floor around this big industrial air conditioner. It was very unappetizing. Then, why do we have junk chairs and basically garbage just stacked against the wall? Who owns this place and why are we okay with that? By the way, the wet floor around that is a hazard. The kitchen aesthetically looked awful and amateur. In the main dining room there are boxes stacked that contain cooking oil. I'd never bring anyone here if I had out of town guests. It's embarrassing. They were even out of lids for drinks. Who does the ordering? Is there even a manager? My kids have all worked fast food, and I'm glad they didn't get their training at a place like this. It has so much potential. Perhaps, all of this is why we only saw one other customer the whole time we were in there. Sad establishment. I'd only go back maybe because of the food and service. Do better!

This location opened just outside of Green Valley Ranch just last year, and I decided to invite my friend over here instead of our usual late evening burger stop. I tried the Classic Burger ($9.99). It was pretty solid, with a decent thick patty, hefty bun, some lettuce and tomato, and a burger sauce. It wasn't that exciting compared to some of the other popular burger chains though, and it was giving lots of California vibes in the sense that there wasn't a lot of fattiness. I did get it with a combo (+$4.99) though. The onion rings were crispy and mostly were bite-through-able, and they went alright with the ranch. I do think a 1:2 or 1:3 ketchup:ranch mixture might be the play, but I didn't investigate thoroughly yet. I also tried my friend's fries, which were okay but not that memorable either. My rating was really not gonna be awesome except for my drink (also included in the aforementioned combo). It was my take on an Arnold Palmer, a roughly 1:1 mix of their unsweetened tea and their lemonade. I later found out that the tea is a passion fruit tea, which is why I was getting fruity/tropical vibes that aren't usually part of this tea. And the sweetness ended up so addictively ideal that I could hardly stop drinking the thing. I will be back to Ruby's when I really crave that Arnold Palmer, and hopefully I'll figure out what to do to find a better entree on their menu. Maybe my friend's chili cheese dog could be a good starting point.

Service, was quick and efficient, we went through the drive thru so I can only rate the cleanliness of the outside and drive thru area. It was clean and well kept. My daughter ordered the chicken tenders with adobo rice, and she loved it as always. I got the two piece chicken joy with palabok. I usually like the palabok but for some reason it was really clumped together like the noodles were left out cold and placed into the box, toppings layered onto it, not warm which was weird since everything else was hot. To me it wasn't as enjoyable cold, and the flavor was barely there. The gravy is always good :) I'll try it again another time, it may have just been an off day for them. Really solid quality. Sriracha Mayo: Recommended by the employee, and it was a total winner. Great creamy kick that went perfectly with the crispiness of the chicken. The Gravy: I grabbed this hoping for something similar to KFC's brown gravy or Dairy Queen's country white gravy. I wasn't a huge fan of it with the nuggets, it has a strong, savory flavor profile that seems like it would be great poured over rice, but it didn't quite work for me as a chicken dip. Service & Experience The Wait: The main downside was speed. I had to wait about 15 minutes after being asked to pull around from the drive-thru lane. It took long enough that I actually thought they might have forgotten about the order! Definitely a 4 star experience. The chicken and Sriracha Mayo are good enough to bring me back, I'll just make sure I'm not in a hurry next time!

Same order I get at Cane's. I figured that would be a good way to compare them. I definitely have a preference. Before I get to that, a bit about what I received. The toast was...toast. Not as thick and fluffy and the closest comparison. More toasty and more salty. The chicken fingers were actually pretty good albeit a bit small. They were hot, fresh and tasty. The sauce they came with was fine but mostly forgettable. I don't know why but it just didn't stand out to me. The fries had potential but were so very over seasoned. Some I didn't eat at all. Some I brushed off as much of the seasoning as I could. Yes, I was a fine seasoning but so so salty. I don't use a lot of salt. Partly for health reasons and partly just a long time personal preference. Finally, the coleslaw. Cool and creamy. Tangy and sweet. Probably the favorite item on my plate. Good service today. Mixed bag of food. Not for those on a sodium restrictive diet. But then what fast food is? I am happy to have had the opportunity to try Zaxby's but I don't think I'll be back soon.
