    Couldn't resist.

We have been taking our cats to BVH for 15 years and have only the up most praise for the care that the staff shows our furry family. Dr. Hetrick remembers us on each visit and shows genuine concern for Alice's health and well being. In those 15 years we have never been disappointed with the service, cleanliness and reputation. We have referred many friends that have the same positive opinion. Thank you!

    Clarice and Bernie.

The veterinarians at Burien Vet Hospital truly care about your pets and you too! I have a cat who likely has a strange fungal infection in his forehead, and the veterinarians have worked so creatively to help *hopefully* help his health improve, but also to make him more comfortable. I can't more highly recommend them. I've used 6 veterinarians since 1998 with cats, dogs, ferrets, and even chickens and fish. We've finally found the best vet for our family.

My dogs and cats have been going here for 25 years. I highly recommend them. The doctors and the staff are knowledgeable and friendly. My dogs are my life. Three of my dogs are working dogs, and my livelihood depends on them. We couldn't do our work if we didn't have a reliable vet. Not only do they heal your pets, but they give great advice on keeping them healthy, so you don't have to go to the vet so often. My only complaint about Burien Veterinary Hospital is that they won't take me as a patient--I hate going to the doctor, and I would much rather be seen at BVH.

One of our family cats was not eating well and had lost some weight. We visited BVH on 5/29 for a checkup. This was our first visit to BVH. The employees were helpful and attentive. They handled our pet with love and care. After some tests and discussions with the Vet, we learned that our kitty friend of 13 years was very gravely ill. Dr. Dixon and all the staff at BVH handled everything with a very high degree of compassion and deep respect. These types of situations are never easy and it is very comforting and reassuring to have such caring professionals to turn to in time of need. I thank BVH for helping our furry family member and for their expertise and compassion.

We love the staff at Burien Veterinary!

The same staff I struggled with was there but other's had joined which seemed to create accountability. I find the facilities clean and the staff generally polite, but the level of politeness definitely varies from one customer to the next. This is observable from the waiting room. The doctor's and assistants are professional and personable. I generally see Dr. Kraabel, but have see a different Dr. for the last two visits. I recently scheduled an appointment when my Sheba showed signs of an ear infection. He had also developed an occasional tearing from one eye which this doctor had observed in May. I suspected his eye may have been scratched from my other dog's tail. For cost reasons I had been applying a human prescription lubricant which I brought in to make sure it was safe; the Dr. made no recommendations. I asked her to take another look at this visit which she did. After a brief exam she suggested a glaucoma test, when I hesitated she told me the worst case scenario, losing an eye without warning and I quickly agreed. The assistant had taken an ear swab when we arrived and now the Dr. escorted my pup to the back. When she returned a few moments later she told me he didn't have an ear infection and showed me how to clean his ears by unrolling the cotton ball and inserting it in his ear. She then went over my entire bill; almost $400. I was aghast, this was more than when he gets the expensive ear treatment. I tried to back out of the $77.00 glaucoma test, but it was already done. It was then she told me that that test was negative as well and suggested a cheap bottle of eye drops. In the end I spent almost $250.00 (with flushes and drops to be filled elsewhere) to be told my dog doesn't have an ear infection and needed eye drops. The doctor later sent results in which the findings showed mild conjunctivitis, yet she withheld that information, choosing to use fear in order to motivate me into agreeing to an unnecessary test. This was a shameful exploitation of the pet connection (a trend among vets) as well as a betrayal of integral trust one must have with the medical profession. All of that, on top of ridiculously high charges for a simple office visit. I left feeling I had been played; swindled, legally, but robbed none-the-less. Needless to say, I will search high and low to find an alternative medical provider for my pets.

I have 2 dogs that are recurring patients at this clinic and regularly receive check-ups and vaccines as needed. However, at our last visit, we were told that the leptospirosis booster and associated nurse visit would cost us an additional $100 on top of the $155 that we had already paid for the initial appointment and first dose of the vaccine. We were never told that the booster would be charged separately along with the nurse visit. Why would the full cost of the vaccine and booster not be disclosed to us at the initial visit? Why would we be charged again for a booster that is required for the vaccine, which we already paid for, to actually work? Sadly, I think this institution has lost sight of their original purpose which was to serve the community and operate as a family-owned business rather than a greedy corporation. I'm not sure what has changed so drastically here in the past few years to cause such a noticeable decline but this is not the same clinic as it once was. After nearly a decade of partnership, I will not be bringing my dogs back here. For any current patients of this clinic, I would strongly advise that you ensure how much you're being billed BEFORE each visit so you are not overcharged for standard services. It is truly sad to see another vet clinic go down the same capitalistic path as so many others.

Dr. McHaffie performed blood work and X-rays, and suspected a foreign body might be lodged in her stomach. Since Chili was very unwell, I made the difficult decision to proceed with surgery. I was worried sick and just wanted her to feel better. Dr. Goraya, the surgeon, was incredible--he walked me through every detail and provided clear, very affordable options. Both Dr. McHaffie and Dr. Goraya were compassionate, professional, and truly treated Chili as if she were their own. I CANNOT thank them enough for their kindness, expertise, and empathy. Because her electrolytes were unstable and her condition was more on the critical side, surgery was scheduled for Monday. The entire SSVH team--receptionists, technicians, and all the doctors involved--were absolutely wonderful throughout the process. Thanks to everyone's care, Chili came home on Tuesday afternoon and has been doing amazingly well--back to her happy, playful self! This is truly a six-star review because five stars just aren't enough to express how grateful and satisfied I am.

I have never been wowed by their service, office, staff or overall attention to my dogs, they have been just ok. The last two times I have had to interact with this place has been awful. - somehow they got one of my dogs vaccine records mixed up. I was needing documentation for the groomer and this took multiple calls, me pulling my records, and me physically going in to the office 3x to get any sort of resolution to the situation. They NEVER followed up and never called back as they repeatedly told me they would. - my dogs have always been on a heart-worm & flea medication, but since we moved to the area, and they didn't issue their last prescription they would not issue a new prescription because they wanted to do an expensive blood work up before prescribing medication. They have both my dog's prior records but refused to issue the prescription refill. So I got to pay $175 for simple blood work and a n additional $120 for a full exam to confirm they don't have heart-worm ( obviously) because they have always been medicated for it. - I called last week to schedule my senior dog's rabies vaccine that he is due for this month. He was seen for his wellness check in April of 2023 (que heart-worm debacle) They refused to schedule his rabies vaccine with a vet tech insisting that I HAD to have an annual exam to get just his vaccine. They said they would check with the vet to "see" if they could just give the vaccine since he was less than 12 months out from his last exam and call me back. It has been almost a week since that conversation and there has been no communication. This is a case of 3 strikes and you're out. I would recommend going to an office that doesn't try to nickel and dime you and cares more about your pets actual needs. As a side note the office staff isn't good. Very snarky and rude. Zero follow up and POOR communication. The veterinarian I have seen has been good overall, just nothing to be wowed over.

Most of the staff are nice and the prices are good but the wait times are absolutely ridiculous. My dog needed to have surgery and they had me drop her off at 7am. I called them at 4pm because I hadn't received an update and I was told she hadn't even gone into surgery yet...I had to take time off work to drop her off early which is fine but it was frustrating to find out they just had her waiting around in a crate all day. Another instance is when I brought her in for some vaccinations and waited with her in the lobby for over 45 minutes. No one said anything to me and I had to ask multiple times to see what was going on because I shouldn't have had to wait that long. It was also frustrating because I moved my appointment from 4pm to 2:30pm and then literally waited until 3:30 to be seen anyway. Also, if you're in a room, they'll say they'll be back and then leave you in there for like 20-30 minutes without an update and you'll have to go into the hall and flag someone down to remind them that you're still there. They also let owners go into the surgery room when they drop off their pet while people are literally operating on an animal a few feet away...seems unsanitary to me. Luckily I'm moving so I won't have to come back but if I wasn't, I would have really considered finding a new veterinarian. Only good thing about this place is the price.
