I have never been so angry or disappointed with a veterinary hospital. Today I brought my dog to this urgent care because he was pooping blood. I was terrified and expected that, at the very least, he would be triaged or evaluated by a medical professional. Instead, I was refused treatment because of a Google review I left TWO YEARS AGO about a completely different Urban Animal location. That previous review existed because my dog had pneumonia, a fever, and was seriously ill. Rather than allowing us inside, we were told to wait outside in the rain because he "might be contagious." As a pet owner, I found that experience unacceptable. Apparently, expressing that opinion resulted in me being permanently banned from receiving care across the company. Think about that for a moment. An urgent care veterinary hospital refused to see a dog actively passing blood because the owner left a negative review two years ago. How is that compatible with providing emergency or urgent medical care? If this is truly the company's policy, every pet owner should know about it. You could arrive believing your pet will receive urgent care, only to be turned away when your animal needs help the most. The emphasis also seemed to be on having customers create accounts and tracking their information, rather than on helping a sick animal. It left me wondering whether those systems are used to identify and blacklist customers who speak honestly about bad experiences. I am furious--not just because my time was wasted, but because turning away a sick dog delayed him from receiving medical attention. When your pet is bleeding, every minute matters. No owner should have to scramble to find another hospital because an urgent care facility refuses to treat them over a years-old review. I strongly recommend avoiding this location--and frankly, any Urban Animal location if this reflects company policy. If your pet is having a medical emergency, choose a veterinary hospital that prioritizes patient care over past customer reviews. Your pet deserves better. read more

My dog was having digestive issues (diarrhea) and he ended up having a pure blood bowel movement- obviously panicking but not trying to panic.. we were referred here because they do WALK INS! We were seen right away, they looked my pup over and did an ultrasound (which i thought was going to be $$$, but i didn't care!) we got our bill and i almost cried because they didn't overcharge us for anything. i paid less than $300 for his emergency visit and they gave him antibiotics, told us to bring in a sample. the staff is so kind and efficient! my pup was nice and comfy with them, which meant the world!! now they are his primary vet! :) read more

SCAM BUSINESS FULL OF CROOKS WITH A BAD ATTITUDE!!! I brought my dog in because she has a urinary tract infection and a yeast infection on her paws. They ended up prescribing her an antibiotic and some medicated wipes. This all cost a whopping $700 and that's after I declined a bunch of other services that they were trying to push on me! To add insult to injury, absolutely nothing changed! My dog still has a UTI and a yeast infection! Eventually, they sent me a text to refill the prescriptions, but unfortunately, I was out of state at that time. When I came back and was available, they refused to refill the prescription because supposedly, they put it back on the shelves. The lady then said that I would have to pay for another visit in order to get more medication. Mind you, this all occurred in only a two week time frame! These people made absolutely no effort to reach out to me! If I would have known that they were about to put the medication back on the shelves and that it would no longer be available without PAYING FOR ANOTHER VISIT, I could have potentially had someone go pick it up. Is it really that hard to give me a quick 30 second call to let me know? If you ask me, it seems like a sleazy way to maximize profits! I mean, why wouldn't you prescribe an appropriate amount in the first place? Additionally, they tried to prescribe some low calorie dog food to help with weight loss! You read that right, PRESCRIPTION DOG FOOD! And of course, it was SUPER EXPENSIVE, just like their services! More evidence of their foul business practices! As an Urban Animal client for the last 8 years, I am extremely disappointed by how much the quality of services has declined here. I have 2 dogs that are recurring patients at this clinic and regularly receive check-ups and vaccines as needed. However, at our last visit, we were told that the leptospirosis booster and associated nurse visit would cost us an additional $100 on top of the $155 that we had already paid for the initial appointment and first dose of the vaccine. We were never told that the booster would be charged separately along with the nurse visit. Why would the full cost of the vaccine and booster not be disclosed to us at the initial visit? Why would we be charged again for a booster that is required for the vaccine, which we already paid for, to actually work? Sadly, I think this institution has lost sight of their original purpose which was to serve the community and operate as a family-owned business rather than a greedy corporation. I'm not sure what has changed so drastically here in the past few years to cause such a noticeable decline but this is not the same clinic as it once was. After nearly a decade of partnership, I will not be bringing my dogs back here. For any current patients of this clinic, I would strongly advise that you ensure how much you're being billed BEFORE each visit so you are not overcharged for standard services. After years of dealing with veterinary offices that felt impersonal or focused solely on profit, finding Urban Animal has been a relief. Knowing that they are a Co-op and employee-owned really shines through in the care they provide. The staff is incredible--genuinely nice and invested in the outcome. They are also refreshingly transparent and conscious about pricing, always making sure we are comfortable with the costs before moving forward. We live near the [Burien/White Center] area, but honestly, we would drive two hours just to bring our cats here. I brought my cats here for international vaccinations and they knew exactly what to do and had the right certifications. They were very friendly with my cats and answered all my questions. I was able to get an appointment quickly and arrange my future appointments as well. The locations are convenient and I found parking quickly. There was plenty of seating in the lobby. They cared for our beloved frenchie Luther and always provided us multiple options, especially after they discovered he had developed a tumors, providing us with recommendations for specialists and care options. When we ultimately made the decision to put him to sleep, the entire staff showed compassion during our difficult time and ensured we had all the support we needed. Urban Animal Gave a Lethal Vaccine to My Healthy Dog - Justice for Gujy I'm one of the owners of Gujy, a young, healthy dog whose life was taken after a visit to Urban Animal. On May 9, 2025, Gujy was brought to the Capitol Hill clinic for a vaccination. He was completely healthy at the time. After that visit, he became sick, and within a few days--on May 14--he died. This was a preventable tragedy. Gujy was up to date on his vaccinations, and we believe the vaccine they gave him was not only unnecessary but deadly. When I called Urban Animal to request his medical records, I was met with resistance and delays. Despite being listed in their system, they initially refused to give me any information. Eventually, they claimed Gujy had only been seen on May 9 and denied any follow-up visit. It felt like they were trying to cover their tracks instead of being transparent and accountable. Gujy was born on January 23, 2024. He was happy, healthy, and full of life. His death should never have happened. Urban Animal's carelessness and refusal to take responsibility must not be ignored. I'm asking for an investigation into the vaccine they gave him and how they handled everything that followed. No more innocent animals should suffer the same fate. Justice for Gujy. read more

I am very glad we started going here. The front desk staff is great -- they even started calling my pet's name every time I walked in. That makes me feel seen and remembered! For as many people they see, that was special. The level of care I've received here has been very good. I had been taking my cat to a much more expensive vet out near Bellevue and got tired of the schlep and their inconsistent communication and the "let's test her again" (read: more bills and no diagnosis). The vet on duty at Urban Animal was able to figure out what was wrong almost immediately and get her treated on the spot; she saved her life that day. The communication about her condition and prognosis was done with care and was very clear. I was pretty wow'd. I like that Urban Animal has three locations; I had to utilize the Capitol Hill location for a specific procedure they didn't have the staff for at White Center. Their systems are linked, so it was easy to get that arranged. I've always gotten great summaries and communication from the doctors at both of these sites. My cat eventually didn't make it (Rest in Peace, Shooben). I sent out the email announcement to friends and family and tagged on Urban Animal White Center on Sunday. A few days later, I had a hand-written condolences card from them in my mailbox. It was so sweet and is just what I needed after a week of intense grief. These things make a big difference. The only reasons I knock off a star are: 1. Not open on weekends. I'm not sure why. I suppose they would be swamped and doctors are likely in shortage and on rotations. 2. Walk-in only means you will likely be waiting there a long time... bring a book and something to eat. Take the day off work. If your pet just needs a nail trim or a vaccine, you'll be in and out pretty quickly assuming they aren't swamped. But if they need to see a doctor, you're at the mercy of how people came before you. (FYI, the location in downtown Seattle purportedly has appointments.) Overall, I highly recommend this place for the care and acumen of the staff. We'll continue to take our dog here. We brought our cat Ellie in for respiratory difficulties. While the tests showed she had untreatable cancer, and we had to choose euthanasia, the staff at Urban Animal could not have been kinder and more professional. They were compassionate and thorough, and collaborated with our existing vet to get her records so they could understand her situation. They gave us plenty of information and supported us in making a difficult choice. They gave us privacy and quiet to spend with Ellie after making her comfortable, and did not rush us through our final time with her. They had sensitive touches like a "doorbell" to alert them quietly when we needed help or were ready to move through the process, and an electric "candle" at the front desk to let other pet owners know that someone was in the process of letting a beloved pet go so they should keep conversations down. Everyone we interacted with was kind and knowledgable. They took an excellent history of our cat and her care. They walked us through possible charges for testing and diagnostics before giving her more than basic triage, so we knew what we might be charged. They gave us a clear price for euthanasia and a choice of services post-mortem with clear costs. And they gave us the choice of opting into their cost-sharing program to help allay costs for other pet owners who can't afford the full cost of services, which we were glad to pay. I have been through both in-home and in-office euthanasia with several cats over the decades, and this was one of the most gracious and well-informed experiences, even though it was a sad one. We were deeply grateful for their concern for both our cat and ourselves. read more

My dog was not eating/vomiting/etc. My regular vet was not available and Urban Animal was recommended to me. I called to see if I could get onto the urgent care waitlist and they said I could bring my dog in for triage - to see if he was experiencing anything life-threatening. Then I could either wait there for an appointment or return home and await a text to bring him back in. They cautioned me that since today is the day after a holiday (Labor Day) the wait would be longer than usual - possibly as long as 4 hours. I brought my dog in, they gave him the triage look-over, and then were able to see him right away. A vet tech asked questions and took notes, and then the vet came in for the examination. She said it didn't seem serious, and gave me some anti-nausea and anti-diarrhea meds to give my dog when I got home. Everyone at Urban Animal was so kind, patient and efficient. The whole visit from walking in to walking out was about 50 minutes. I know this is probably unusual, but I was grateful to be able to have my dog looked at so quickly, and by such great, professional people. Five stars! read more

Having to make the hard decision to put our family pet put to sleep after suffering so much this past year. We faced a variety of challenges in taking this step. My daughter called Urban Animal in White Center where Chola had been seen in the past and we were able to bring her in at the end of the day. We honestly did not know what to expect, but the staff made it easy and were so caring through the process. I'm sorry, I do not remember the names...it's all still a blur, but my daughter, granddaughter and I are extremely grateful to the staff of Urban Animal. I brought my dog in on July 30th for a mass growth on her snout. My initial impression was good - friendly staff and knowledgeable vet in Dr. Davidoff. I was given antibiotics for a perceived infection and had two follow-up visits to determine if/when surgery would be required. On August 5th I was told that Dr. Davidoff would be unavailable to do the surgery for two weeks, but could likely recommend another surgeon if need be. On August 13th, I called UA with a concern that the mass growth was worsening. I got a call back that Dr. Davidoff would like me to come in on Thursday morning in order for her and another doctor to assess the growth and who best to do the surgery. It was this day that I was told that Dr. Davidoff would be out of the office until August 27th and my option then would be to go to Capital Hill and have Dr. so and so perform the surgery. I told UA that I couldn't do that and that I had confidence in Dr. Davidoff. Thursday, August 15th I arrived at 8:20 am. When I checked in, I was told that I needed to come back in 2 hours. I said this was a follow-up and explained that it wouldn't be possible for me to come back because I needed to drop my car off to my mechanic so I wouldn't have a car. The girl said again, that I needed to come back in 2 hours. I told her that there was no way that I could walk the 20 blocks to get there. Since she was unwavering, I left. I was able to get my car back by midafternoon so I quickly returned to UA at 3 pm. The guy at the desk recognized me and said, you have to come back in 2 hours. I told him I had a Zoom meeting at 5 pm. He then said "5:30". I thought, okay, I'll start the meeting and then record the rest. I told him 'okay, I'll be back at 5:30. When I arrived at 5:25, the guy in the hat said "you left today, so we took you off the list". I said that was early this morning and I had explained that I wouldn't have a car to get here. He kept repeating himself while shrugging his shoulders and not budging, implying that I left at 3pm without confirming that I would return at 5:30. I asked him why he was being so confrontational. What I didn't say was that he was rude, which he was. I made every attempt to get my dog taken care of. I was flexible regarding Dr. Davidoff's calendar because I trusted her opinion and expertise. My question to UA is: If Dr. Davidoff requested that I come in on Thursday morning, which I did, why was I asked to return in 2 hours? The assessment regarding the severity of the growth and the need for surgery would probably have taken 15 minutes or less. And question 2 is: Why didn't the guy at the desk tell me that I was "taken off the list" when I arrived at 3 pm and then tell me to return at 5:30? In short, I arrived at UA 3 times in 9 hours on August 15th, only to be turned away for no reason. And I can tell you, I'm 67 yrs old and schlepped my 58 pound dog in and out of the car 3 times X 2. Meanwhile, I've spent 4-500 dollars on the visit and meds. My dog's growth has worsened and I am now back to square one. Needless to say I will never go back, which is a shame because I thought a lot of Dr. Davidoff. read more

I've been going to Urban Animal for 10+ years, they offer great service but over the years they have increasingly become about getting the most out of your wallet based on the love of your pet. My dog had an ear infection, an ear infection he gets once a year. Two years ago I brought him in for it and they prescribed him some medicine that cleared it right up. He had the same ear infection last year, I had some of the medicine left over so I used that and it cleared up. This year I ran out so I tried to go back to buy some more, only to be told after 6 months he has to be re-diagnosed for an ear infection he's had twice already and that most dogs his type get yearly. Once I finally get my appointment I go in there only for the vet to tell me the exact things I already know (he'll get them yearly, try to clean his ears...etc) then they tell me they will clean his ears and prescribe him the very medicine I came in for. Next thing I know I'm paying a $267 vet bill. Yes I guess I was being naive but when they say they are going to clean his ears I didn't know it would cost $80+, that's something you should quote someone before just doing it, I could have easily done the ear cleaning myself! It's sad that they prey on the fact we love our animals so much and they take advantage of it. They offer great service but the charges are extremely out of hand and the communication on what you will be charged for is non existent. Search the net for alternatives and only go in here if you have no other choice. I was able to find the very medicine he needed for only $40 while they charged me $70 plus the visit and the ear cleaning. read more

Brought our dog Phoebe in for several bouts of vomiting and lethargy. They gave her nausea medication, took xrays, and did blood work. She looked dehydrated when she was taken in. The vet sent her home with nothing but did say the xray showed something in her stomach. When she got home she began drooling and vomiting again immediately. I called urban animal to request they send the xray to timberline because I was taking her there. Arrived at timberline where they evaluated her and saw the constant drool. they gave her nausea medication and told us she was very dehydrated. She stayed overnight to get fluids and they did repeat xrays to make sure that what was seen in her stomach moved through. I was charged almost 1100 for the visit at urban animal and Phoebe felt no better until we got her to timberline. I do not recommend going here. I know timberline is more expensive but if you have to pay 2 visits then it is more economical to just go to timberline the first time. read more

Absolutely wonderful staff that treat your pet like family! I came here once as the Cap Hill location was packed, and they were able to see my cat in 30 minutes. Be aware, however, that they are a walk-in practice and generally have much longer wait times! Dr. Hans was incredible. My cat absolutely fears vets and was terrified, but she was able to get him to stay calm and check him without having to sedate him. She was very understanding of my concerns and made sure I fully understood what was happening and options before I left. Plus, the price was very reasonable! We had a pretty bad experience here. Waited close to 3 hours to see the vet. We got there at 10:30am were told our appointment would be in 1.5 hrs (no problem here). When we got the alert to return for our appointment, we checked in; it was close to 12:30. They placed us in a room then we waited for 40 more minutes before the vet came in. By this point we were cooked from waiting and could not wait any longer. Note, it would have been an even longer wait had we sat around to get the basic service we came in for. Pros: Very nice staff. Cons: Not much of a cost saving from an ordinary appointment only vet facility, no reading materials in waiting rooms for the torturous wait time, long long wait time. I took in my cat because his appetite had changed from being a huge eater to eating very little. Urban Animal immediately removed all of his teeth without checking anything else out. After they removed all of his teeth he wouldn't eat at all! I took him back a couple of times to check on his teeth and figure out why he still wasn't eating, they continued to charge me more money (a couple of thousand dollars) and they told me they needed to continue to run tests and it would continue to cost me additional money-why didn't they do that in the first place instead of immediately taking out his teeth first! He was never the same after they took out his teeth! Receptionist was also rude when I was trying to explain to her what was going on. Unfortunately my cat died six months later, he refused to eat and we had to feed him with a syringe. Very disappointed in this place, it's like the fast food of vets! Until recently, I lived in Capitol Hill and always took my two cats to Urban Animal; I first started going to their original location, way back when they first opened in 2012. They were always a really good experience, and treated my cats with compassion and care. Even when they changed locations to something less convenient, and when there were other vets closer to me, I kept going there because of how amazing they were. So when I recently moved to White Center I was really glad to see that there's an Urban Animal here too. Unfortunately, the way that they have handled COVID issues has made them extremely frustrating, and I am switching to a different vet now. My elderly cat (one of Urban Animal's oldest patients, in more ways than one!) was showing symptoms of malaise and I wanted to bring him in for a wellness check; at the time, they were making appointments, but they were booked for a few weeks out. Then they changed their system to a "wait queue" system where you have to call in the morning to get a time when you can wait in the parking lot to MAYBE be seen. My cat's symptoms got worse and worse. I tried repeatedly to get him in, only to be told that they don't have any slots available, and to call early in the morning. Even calling the instant their line opened up, I'd be on hold for 10-15 minutes only to be told that all the slots were full, and they suggested that I go back to Capitol Hill and wait for 2+ hours in the waiting room, and driving that far and waiting in a car for that long is the last thing I want to subject my already-sick cat to. This morning my cat's symptoms took another major turn for the worse. I tried one last time, and they said that all six slots (six?! for all day?!) were filled up, and that they were going to go back to walk-ins in a week. I told them that in a week my cat would probably be dead. So instead I went to South Seattle Veterinary Hospital, where they were able to get my cat in immediately and get him diagnosed. It turned out to be a bile duct issue, and it's progressed to the point where my cat probably only has a short while left. If I'd been able to get him in sooner, maybe he'd have had a chance to live a bit longer. Or maybe not. But regardless, the callous disregard that Urban Animal had for a long-time client with an elderly cat and my frustration around scheduling, and their inflexibility in reserving space in advance based on simple triage, is unconscionable and disgusting. I understand that COVID-19 has made things difficult for everyone, but I find it hard to believe that they needed to reduce their capacity that severely -- seriously, six appointments per day?! -- and that they can't prioritize pets based on urgency or need. Other walk-in veterinary clinics have been able to keep things running under the exact same circumstances. Urban Animal lost me as a client today. read more

I took my rescued pitbull mix in for a skin condition. The doctor provided a short term fix, but a few weeks later my dog was back to gouging at his eyes. Desperate for a solution, I took him back and a different doctor provided a new short term fix. My pup continued to scratch at his face, and the vets could not pinpoint an issue. After doing my own research we changed my pup's diet and lone behold, no more itching. A simple fix discovered through friends, preceded by two $300 visits to Urban Animal. I needed to get my frenchie in at the last minute. I was completely panicked and tried my regular vet. She was unable to see him and recommended I go to Urban Animal in White Center. I jumped in the car and took my suffering boy directly to Urban Animal. The two receptionists were kind and helpful and got my furry boy on the wait list. Unfortunately, it was a 3 hour wait, but the best part was I was able to stay in queue and received a text message just before it was time for my frenchie to be seen. The vet technicians and veterinarians were so wonderful and compassionate. They took incredible care of my little furry guy. He never felt overly stressed and trotted along when they guided him back for his procedure. I left in tears of joy and gratitude. I'm still racking my brain on how I can go back and show the staff of Urban Barn how much I appreciate them! read more

All of the staff here are amazing and super friendly. I am a first time puppy owner and it's been so pleasant knowing my puppy gets EXCITED to come to the vets because he is treated with love! I was here for the switch from appointments to walk in and I appreciate how clear the staff has been in communicating this change to me. My puppy got coccidia at 9 weeks old and kennel cough at 19 weeks and both times I brought him in (to Capitol Hill and White Center) the technicians and vets were amazing. In addition they gave me free trials of flea/tick and heartworm medication (which I will admit I totally forgot I needed for dogs - again I am a new dog mom!) which was great. Their email system reminding me of my vaccine appointments is great. I really appreciate all that they do to make me and my dog feel welcome, and for having competitive rates for vaccines and examination fees! I understand people are frustrated with the wait times, but this is happening everywhere. When my puppy got kennel cough I didn't know the full symptoms. He was coughing so hard he was regurgitating his food from 8pm - 4am on a Sunday. I tried calling SIX, yes SIX, emergency vets (the only ones open on a Sunday evening) to see if I could come in. At this point I didn't know 100% it was kennel cough and not a GI issue. Well, they all turned me away due to being full. Vets everywhere are completely booked. I could only be seen in PORTLAND. I decided against driving to Portland at 4am and instead lined up at the Urban Animal White Center location at 7:30am. I was second in line, and checked in and put in a room right away. I'd also like to add that I have owned cats my whole life and NEVER have I seen a vets office give such well-written discharge notes. I literally asked at least two dozen questions and they were all answered in my discharge notes. It means SO MUCH that Urban Animal staff all care so much to take the time to do this. read more

Due to Covid I've had a hard time finding a veterinarian that takes new patients...We drove 2 hours to get our Coconut spayed...This office is absolutely wonderful...It was clean and everyone was so professional and nice...We appreciate everything they did for our little Coconut...It's been 2 days and her incision looks wonderful - it looks almost healed which I wasn't expecting...Thank you ;) read more

Urban Animal is a lifesaver during a time when it's virtually impossible to get an appointment at a regular vet. They give an estimate of how long the wait will be when you check in. They do not expect you to wait in your car. They give you a 20 minute notice to allow time to go home, run errands, etc. The support staff is amazing. I know vet offices are overwhelmed and some handle it better than others. The front desk staff at Urban Animal was kind and patient. The doctor we talked to was very knowledgeable and provided us with several options on treatment. I also like how they let you be with your pet while they are examined. I got kittens for xmas! Then reality hit me and I realized it could be weeks before I could get an appointment for a vet. I'm extremely thankful for the walk-in setup they have as a lot of places are not taking new clients in West Seattle. Add in freezing temps and snow and I don't think I would have been able to get in anywhere else! Pleased with the great customer service, expertise, and kindness this place shows. If you check the online wait time tracker you'll see waits can be hours. But, they'll text you about 20 mins before you are up so you can head back. Super convenient if live nearby. Recommend to be first inline before they open. I arrived at 8am and was 6th in-line. Took about 1.5 hrs until they saw me. But, went home had a cup of coffee and then headed back when they texted! read more

This place is the worse ... some friend who are police officers took there pet in and they literally refuse service !!!! I thought it was a lie but I took my pet in wearing a support the police shirt and YES !! It was true .. I felt very disappointed that a business would act this way , very unprofessional and low class .. I will never use them and tell anyone the same .. the word has been put out about how they treat police officers ... and no officer or family friends will attend this place .. the fact is that I'm a black man and felt somewhat discriminated against .. black and police officer .. way to go ... So I was contacted after my review and they claimed it's false ... of course they would ...to be clear the young woman in front was the one with this attitude .. it may not be policy .. but it happened !!!! I guess owning up to it is not a thing they do ... never the less , the word has been spread to officers to not support this business , I'm the community that thinks the same as employees do about police officers will support them ... oh , and to add claims of they served someone from the DOC that trains police officers ??? WRoNG !!! DOC does not train police officers ... who's lying now ?! read more
