Wow. Unreal! It's my first time coming to this auto shop and they were extremely fair, time-conscious, and pleasant to deal with. I got a state inspection and got my battery & a terminal changed as well as the corrosion around the battery cleaned. I came in at 8:45am and it was done by 10am and was a great price! Waiting was no problem, since I could walk to the nearby Starbucks which was 100 yards away and enjoy some coffee and reading. Will be back for other car services -- this has been the fastest, best priced auto shop with personable and kind workers who don't try to up sell you or find problems that they try to make you fix. All the services I needed (coolant and oil change, brake pads replacement, emissions test, safety inspection) were performed quickly and priced reasonably. Most of all no sales push - at other quick oil change place I was told break fluid and transmission oil needs to be changed, here they checked all of that and guess what... all fluids were good. Buddy and his team have consistently earned our family's business time and time again. We've been bringing our cars to his team for over 8 years. They have always been honest and I've never felt like they were taking advantage of us. This week I took one of my cars in for an oil change and to have a brake problem looked at. They called me with options for fixing my brakes and ended up being able to address the issue more economically. Then I swapped out that car for my husband's which was making a faint rattling noise. There's been many times when I've taken my car in and they don't charge me because it's an easy fix or nothing serious. They are not the cheapest as you'll read. But they take care of you and don't screw you over. You'll save money if you go here for a long enough time because of that fact alone. I took my Dodge Grand Caravan to Burke Auto Service today, after experiencing a major oil leak. Was so impressed that George let me know the problem has stemmed from an improperly fitting oil filter from my last Jiffy Lube oil change 2 weeks ago, probably causing the oil housing to crack. Not only did George and his team let me know that I should follow up with Jiffy Lube, to see what they could do to cover the impending and rather expensive repair, but they also conferred with the Jiffy Lube staff to let them know what happened. I ended up taking the car back to JL and had it repaired for free - they even paid for the diagnostic test that George ran. Kudos to George and the Staff at Burke Auto Service we will definitely go back if we ever have an issue with our cars again!! I have been coming here for my car services. So when I want to buy a used car, I decided to get it checked out at the shop. The owner, buddy (Thomas Apperson) overstepped his role. Instead of just giving me a report on the car's condition, he printed out wrong Kelly blue book value and told the seller what a great car she has, the multiple scratches on her car don't matter and that I (his paying customer) should pay her (the seller) a minimum of $$ amount while I was in the middle of negotiation. I try to tell him he got the wrong Kelly blue book value and that I had done my homework before buying (hint: go away) but he went and printed out another WRONG Kelly paper instead. Then he took the liberty to tell the seller and I in a very arrogant and loud manner that if I don't offer the seller at least $$amount, I will be looking for car another two months. He doesn't even know what the seller asking price is or our conversation when he does that. I am beyond pissed at that point and think that he is unprofessional to insert himself in a private negotiation and ended up costing a car. The seller got more confident and decided on not selling until she showed it to other people to get best value she can even after I offer her the full asking price. What Buddy doesn't know is that the seller is not selling until a month later and I will be buying as is after she gets to drive for another month. Also, seller is leaving the country, so if anything happens to the car, I can't file claim or get anything back. EVEN if he printed out the correct kelly blue book, he should not have insert himself in my private conversation with the seller or show the seller the information and tell the seller what is the minimum she should accept (again, I am his customer, NOT the seller). To add insult to injury, Buddy decided to give me $2 discount on a $96 bill. I did not once complain about the bill, so the insulting $2 was uncalled for. I paid for the car inspection and walked out pissed and regretful of my poor judgment to come here. Buddy (the owner) did not apologize, but as I walked out, he offered to cover my next car's inspection cost (uhm, another chance for you to botch my negotiation? No thank you). I felt like this would not have happened had it been a guy trying to purchase a car instead of me, a female. I am sad that I have to look for another shop to bring my car to now he broke the trust and customer relationship. read more

I stopped by Burke Auto to get their assessment of my car's oil problem. Another auto repair shop had told me I had a severe oil leak needing $1,250 to fix. The experts at Burke Auto determined the oil leak was minimal after their cleaning and review of my car, and that no immediate work was needed. And they charged me NOTHING! I almost paid $900 last week for certain repairs and replacements that my dealership told me was needed for my car when only about three months prior I paid the same amount for my 30,000 mile service. So I took my car to Burke Auto Service Experts for an independent diagnostics to see if, indeed, there are problems with my car. Guess what? Nothing. Everything is still good! My mechanic was Kevin and he took the time to show me all the parts that my dealership said were problematic but were actually just fine. I'm knowledge deficient when it comes to auto stuffs but I learned so much today from Kevin's explanation. Bea (front desk) is also such an accommodating person. Another great thing - I paid $0 for today's service, to think that they took the time to diagnose my car and even adjusted the tire pressure. My car wasn't holding a charge and was acting funny while driving. I took it to Burke Auto assuming the alternator and at the very least, I'd need a new battery. After Buddy at Burke Auto diagnosed the car he said this was due to some corrosion and a loose negative connection on the terminal so they just tightened and cleaned it. I just moved to Burke and found Burke Auto Service quickly online, and I can honestly say I am BLOWN AWAY by the service I received here. I brought in my car for an issue I thought I had, but it wasn't worth fixing or spending a lot of money on. David was honest and advised me to save my money, but obviously he would do the work if I insisted. When I went to pick up the car, my window broke on our extra car I was driving, so I swapped them out. The cost of the repair was more than the car itself was worth, so the guys just screwed up the window in place and all is great again. But this is where the magic happened. Because of a holiday weekend, and then my husband being out of town, I wasn't able to pick up the car for over a week. Trey and his brother DROPPED OFF MY CAR AT HOME! I have been going to Burke's Auto Service for about three years now. Though there are shops closer to home, I go there because the yelp reviews have lived up to the hype. As a woman I often feel intimidated in dealing with car stuff, but Buddy (and Burke's Staff) is great about explaining things and when I compare prices to repair pal or other online and local sources they are very competitive. Most importantly though, I have never felt pressured to do something that was not necessary (i.e. no upsells). They do a great job and get it done in a reasonable time frame. I know this place has a lot of good reviews, so maybe I've just had bad experiences. I used to take my car here whenever I needed service, but had to stop because I got tired of bringing it back again and again for the same two problems. I had a check engine light that kept coming on, and every 1-2 months I'd have to bring it back, they'd find the "problem," I'd get charged for it, and in a few weeks the check engine light would be back on. A lot of the reviews mention that this place is inexpensive, and that's true. But after bringing my car back 3-4 times for the same problem, it's no longer inexpensive. I ended up taking my car to one of their competitors, and yes, I ended up paying a bit more, but I got the problem fixed for good. My 2nd issue was the air conditioning. Again, I brought my car in multiple times (I realize I am at fault for going back again and again, but I guess I expected them to make good on their previous "repairs"), and each time the problem was never fixed. One time I was actually driving out of their parking lot and I could feel that the A/C wasn't working, so I'm not sure what they did other than charge me money. Finally I was told that they just didn't know what the problem was and that I should bring it to a dealer -- which is sound advice, but NOT after you've charged me hundreds of dollars and taken up hours of my time. In summary, this place would probably be good for small/known/easily fixed issues. Maybe they did genuinely tried to fix the issues my car was having. However, the fact that they didn't stand by their repairs, and repeatedly charged me while they troubleshot the problems, means that I will not be going back to them again. read more

We've used them for minor things...oil changes and other routine service. They seem honest with me and never recommend needless repairs. Once we brought our car in because the battery died and they just trickle charged it rather than making us buy a new battery. I dock one star because my wife brought the car in for an oil change and tire rotation...and they charged her an extra $25 for synthetic oil...she wouldn't know to ask for synthetic oil and it's unnecessary for our car. read more

After reading other reviews about Burke Auto Service, I decided to take my car there to have my AC checked. While I was there I mentioned that I would occasionally hear a "strange" sound when I turned to the left. I assured them that it would probably be impossible to duplicate the noise, but they said they would check to see what might be making the noise. A couple hours later, they called and said that the car was ready. When I arrived there, they said that they checked the AC thoroughly and that it was running fine. They also said that they found the source of the strange noise and they fixed the problem. Needless to say, I was thrilled to hear the good news. However, I was absolutely stunned when they told me there was no charge for what they did. It's actually hard to believe that a place like this exists in this area. If you've lived around here for any length of time, you've probably been ripped off by one of the many unscrupulous car dealers or service centers by having unnecessary repairs done, or by the upselling of products you don't need. At least I have found a place I can trust, and I will definitely take my car back to Burke Auto Service when necessary. read more

They are neither the cleanest nor the fanciest place in northern Virginia, but they are honest and actually talk to you about your vehicles. If they feel some repairs might have cheaper alternatives or can wait, they will tell you. If they are not equipped to diagnose a problem, they will tell you. You can drop off your car without an appointment and they usually get to work on it by the next morning. My most recent visit was for a rough running engine. An ignition coil had failed on my 6 cylinder engine. They had fixed this same problem once before (different coil), so I asked about replacing the remaining 5. This would have been hundreds of dollars in labor for them, but the mechanic said it wouldn't save me money so just fix the others if and when they fail. A few years ago I brought in a different car that had slid in snow and smacked a tire on a curb. The suspension was busted and the subframe was really bent. They said might be able to bring the subframe back into specs. When I picked up the car, all the mechanics happily told me they had never worked so hard to align a car. read more

AT LAST, a trustworthy place to take my car! After trying to ignore a disturbing "crunchukutta" noise every time I backed down my driveway or hit a speed bump, I decided to go to this place (aka "Buddy's") because my husband had had a very good experience with them. I was fully expecting to need struts or a tie rod or something for my 100K Solara, so I was blown away when it turned out that some plastic shield under my car had come loose and they had fixed it back up where it should be. I moved to Burke in 2009 and just by chance found this place. I have taken my car and my kids cars to them ever since. Buddy is honest, his mechanics do excellent work and when I leave there I know everything has been done correctly. The other reviewer also mentioned that they find things that are starting to go wrong but tell you that they don't need to be fixed right away and that is very true. They are great and honest which is hard to find in a car repair shop. I know a little about cars and also when it is something I can't fix. When I took my car to them they checked the simplest and most obvious possibilities. While they could have gone to the expensive diagnosis and repair options they checked the quickest and cheapest and found the problem. They also cleaned up my battery terminals which had corroded again and sprayed them with anti-corrosive. Finally, they were cheaper than a dealership. Now that I know someone I can trust I will definitely use them when I can't do it. Unbelievable. We have always been happy with the repairs and quality of investigative work the team does at Burke auto. We have had problems with our cars others have essentially said we were making up. This team finds the problem and fixes. However, it's the service that to me makes this place feel like family. I recently had heart surgery. I had one of my cars towed there for repairs. When it was complete I explained I would need to arrange a time for my wife and someone else to come by after her work day. I could not drive. 30 minutes later I heard some doors closing and a truck in front of my house. Being a recycle day I thought it was the recycle company. When I looked out I saw my vehicle parked in the driveway. Keys and paperwork were on the floor under the driver seat. Talk about service. I have found these guys to be very fair and helpful. More times they have saved me money on car repairs. Recently, I was losing air pressure in one of my new tires and both a dealer and another Good Year Service center told me that I need a new tire (the car is only one year old and the tire and the car had 6000 miles).
