I wen't in to try to order boutonnieres and corsages for myself and 2 of my friends. When I got the prices I wanted to text my friends to make sure that these prices were ok with them and calculate to see how much each of us were going to pay. I was asking the lady questions about certain flowers and prices. I was only in there for maximum 8 minutes when what seamed to be a manager comes up to me and tells me that I need to figure out what I am going to do or leave because her employe "has work to do". I was shocked! This is NOT how you treat paying customers of your business! If I had treated a customer like that at the places I work I would be fired on the spot! I am extremely disappointed! It's been quite a while since I've purchased flowers from a florist. I went to Burke Florist because of the posted reviews and location. I wanted a funeral wreath, but not for standing. My request was for a wreath the lay flat and surround my daughter's funeral urn. Her urn was not the typical type I had seen here (in the US). It was a beautiful unique handmade urn from an amazing potter in Poland. My task was to find a flower arrangement as unique as my daughter and the urn she was to lay to rest in. On Valentine's weekend, probably one of the busiest times for a florist, I embarrassingly made phone calls to several florists on Friday at 3:30 to see if anyone could make a last minute arrangement for a funeral the next day. Without hesitation Burke Florist asked for design ideas to see if they had all the elements and they delivered it the next day for a morning funeral service. It was a beautiful rainbow wreath and I hope they add a photo to share because I was unable to take one. The flowers were absolutely beautiful, better than the google sample I sent. I am a wedding/event planner and I worked with Denise for an August bride of mine. Our bride resided in California, therefore, were unable to get her in for an in-studio trial with Denise. Although Denise had finalized the flowers with the bride prior to her hiring me - the bride voiced concerns about her flower selections. When I reached out to Denise, even though she confirmed with me that the bride had already chosen her flowers and was unsure as to why she was changing her mind now, she never once complained about the time it took to change things around to put the bride at ease. She offered options that the bride was able to look at (complete with photos for reference) and went back and forth via email until the bride was satisfied. She answered emails in a timely manner (which is, unfortunately, rare in this industry) and was always respectful and professional. The bride absolutely loved how the flowers turned out on the wedding day - much in part due to Denise's determination to work with the bride and I until she was satisfied (which makes me happy as a planner - a happy bride!). I stumbled across this florist by searching for local shops in Burke, VA. Ultimately I was looking for another shop I've used in the past and had no luck finding them. Let me tell you, I couldn't be happier. Denise, at Burke Florist, has FAR exceeded my expectations. I long ago chose to start using local florists because of a bad experience with the 1800 flowers type of company. This shop only solidifies my decision. As I type I'm trying to make up reasons why I need to order more flowers! For my 10yr anniversary I went with 10 red roses and 4 white roses (to represent our 4 children). While I wanted it to be special, Denise is the one that suggested the 4 white roses. Awesome idea, right? I then decided I wanted to send a stuffed animal along w/ the arrangement. I had ordered one and Denise was happy to deliver that for me along w/ the flowers. So already, awesome service. Two days before delivery Denise e-mails to let me know they just received the most beautiful large white calla lilies from their local farmer and asked if I'd like to substitute them for the white roses. Unfortunately he decided to put it in the freezer because he thought that would preserve it. The next morning I found it there and immediately pulled it out to thaw. But the damage was done. Burke Florist has local flowers when possible. My consultation went well; the representative was attentive, responsive, and got my vision for the wedding. I got a proposal quickly and the price was right. The flowers were delivered on time and my large bouquet and my bridesmaids' flower crowns got many compliments. The only reason I can't give five stars was the form inside my bouquet broke and flowers were coming out of it starting with photos. A friend was able to tie it up so it made it through the ceremony. My DOC called the florist for help/advice but it was Saturday and he did not get a call back until Sunday. The florist was distraught about it. Over email later she told me such a thing had only happened once years before with a funeral arrangement. I asked for credit and she offered what I thought was a fair amount. These things happen and she did what she could to make good. I was satisfied and would give them another chance in the future. Burke Florist graciously donated beautiful, fresh flowers to a fundraiser for George Mason University's School of Music. The event was a showcase of songs from various Broadway musicals to fundraise for the university's Chorale department in promotion for the choir's full Broadway Showcase the following month. As a member of the choir and the decorations committee for the event, I contacted several florists in the Fairfax, Sterling, and Reston area, all of which were unwilling to donate flowers to our event. Days before opening night I called Burke Florists and asked the owner, Denise, if she would be willing to donate any loose flowers to GMU's Showcase. Denise was more than happy to donate flowers! I was extremely surprised when picking up the flowers hours before the show. I walked into Burke Florist for the first time and immediately could smell the aroma of fresh flowers. The atmosphere inside the store complemented the welcoming and friendly qualities of its owner. Denise surprised me even more with her donation. What I expected was perhaps a few dozen small flowers- throwaways from a prettier arrangement- but instead these flowers were full, fresh, and GORGEOUS. Denise donated two huge crates of an array of beautiful flowers, filled to the brim. The assortment of these lovely flowers were used as centerpieces on the tables for the show, and were the highlight of the décor. I came in less than an hour before they closed hoping to choose from a selection of pre-made bouquets, drop off my handmade card, and set up delivery to a local friend. The experience I got, though equally efficient, was so much better than I had hoped for! Denise greeted me with a smile between helping to load the truck for a wedding and finishing her consultation with another guest who was placing an order. When she guided me to the walk-in fridge full of lush beautiful blooms, my eye caught a $65 purple and yellow bouquet featuring irises and sunflowers. After she figured out it was the irises I wanted, she helped me build a more budget-friendly bouquet with similar themes, and a few extra selections of my own! She offered some pro tips when I asked for help, or seemed unsure, but otherwise supported me in my flower dreams! I wondered about carry-out vs. delivery, and she said we hadn't reached the minimum for delivery, which was $45 dollars, so I said heck go for it! We decided to add some giant lily blossoms and a few extra irises and roses for cohesion. I was absolutely thrilled with the result! Moreover, I was charmed by Denise's confident approach and expertise (along with every other friendly face I saw preparing for the afternoon's wedding). My coworkers and I wanted to show our love and support for our coworker as she was across the country preparing to say a final farewell to her youngest son. We were going to go with one of those big online florists just for convenience but had a few people encourage us to use a local florist. We did some research on florists in Fairfax, and were drawn to Burke's because they were family owned and use locally grown flowers. My coworker called Denise to get some more info, and then three of us called her back to place the order. Besides knowing how much we wanted to spend and that we wanted it to be bright and colorful, we weren't sure what else we wanted. Denise was great at listening and offering suggestions, made the ordering process over the phone so easy, and even gave us a military discount since one of us has a husband in the military. And since we're in Phoenix and unable to attend the homegoing service, Denise texted us a picture of the finished arrangement so that we could share it with everyone who chipped in. The arrangement was stunning. To me it represents hope with its beauty and vibrant colors, that life still has so much beauty even in such sad times.
