Dan took a $1,000 deposit and made a poorly written contract with my 87 year old mother before I could review and advise her. I called him within 24 hrs and he didn't return my call. I called him again today and he answered and I let him know that we wanted to cancel the contract as we were getting other bids. He told me the $1,000 was non refundable regardless of whether he does the work or not. I'm pretty sure in California a homeowner has a minimum of 3 days cooling off, for seniors 65+ they have 5 days and a contractor must return the monies held on deposit which is usually the right thing to do. In either case, I can't imagine someone would take advantage of seniors like this- but Dan Burke is a master at elder abuse. We won't let this go and he will make it right. hire this guy at risk- no integrity and no sense of respect and decency. read more

This is day number 4 of the continuing saga with this company. I spoke with Dan Burk this morning and was assured the damage his employees did would be corrected. He did remove the job site debris and painting equipment left behind. Upon inspection Mr Burk has not corrected the damage his employees caused. I notified Mr. Burk I would be filing a complaint against his contractor's license. New pictures of the damage caused by these painters. It appears that Mr Burk took a screwdriver and hammer to willfully cause damage. read more

Working with Dan Burke has been a beyond frustrating experience. He has been disrespectful to me and we had to hound him to finish the job he said he was going to do. I have had to constantly supervise him and remind him multiple times to finish things like finishing baseboards that were missing (sent multiple picture texts) or had to ask several times for him to take things off walls not just paint around them. He tried to over charge me or say that Sherwin Williams paint wasn't included when it so clearly was in my contract. At the end of the project he tried to charge me $400 more than what was in my contract. Luckily I kept records of my payments and didn't over pay him. He charges professional painter prices but he acts like the random guy you could find for half the price on Craigslist. I also had to hound him to get someone to clean the floors with paint on them and baseboard shavings. We planned our move around his painting schedule and it didn't get done in time. They flipped some of the breakers we didn't know existed in the closet and they refused to come to our house to take a look at anything or to help, instead Dan just told us to hire an electrician and that they wouldn't help. His interpersonal relations are terrible, he was plain disrespectful. Dan would say be would stay late and then he'd go home. They told us the job would be done in 1 week and it wasn't. On the day he was supposed to be done, he claimed he couldnt stay to finish past 4pm because he had some meeting to go to. I said this wasn't acceptable, he needed to stay and get the paint on the walls because we were moving in the next day! You can't exactly be painting and have wet paint on the walls on move in day. They said everything would be done in under a week, then didn't work on Saturday but made a big deal that they would come on Sunday. In my experience, when you pay $5k to hire someone to paint in 1 week, it's up to you to get it done. Manual labor might require work on a weekend, but it's them who told us it would be done in a week, not me! The 1 week date turned into 11 days. And that only happened because I hounded them to finish the job! He took down kick springs from the back of the doors and didn't put them back up, at this point I just wanted him out of my house we'll figure out how to put everything back up. And he wanted payment before the job was done "so he could pay his workers." Sorry, but you don't get your final payment till the job is done! Because of poor management he could have gotten the job done on time but Dan wouldn't put in the work himself. Dan is not a person of color and his workers are all people of color. Dans work ethic is terrible but his crew seemed to work hard. I feel bad if his workers didn't get paid in a timely manner but honestly that's Dans problem to correct, I refused to give him full payment before he was done. The 2 stars on this review are inflated to give credit to his employee Arte. Arte was great, communicative, apologetic for mistakes, worked long hours to finish the job. Although in the end Arte forgot about some baseboards and couldn't finish the job because of some family emergency... is this true or was it just being lazy? Honestly these people couldn't figure it out. I would not recommend this company. read more

Once the contract is signed you don't see Dan Burke. He sends different people to do jobs without checking results. Nothing was covered for painting & drywall. No timeline kept but kept asking for money. I believe he wrote his own Yelp reviews. read more
