Our problem started on Sunday when our AC went out. Due to the fires, we could not open the windows to cool off and the humidity for northern CAL was pretty bad. I called a couple of different plumbing companies and Burkell answered the phone right away and made an appt for the next day to assess the problem. Incredible! Tyler and Alex came over on Tuesday and were extremely professional, personable and knowledgeable. They made an assessment, and ordered what ended up being an expensive part. Three days later they installed the part tested everything and we are good to go. I cannot tell you how disappointed I am to write a negative review about a local company. Last August I called Burkel in hopes of having them fix my AC. They said my AC had no repair and I should purchase a new one (of course, through them). We decided to defer the purchase until this year and opted to get one more opinion. Fortunately for us, they were amazing and got our unit to work! I have called and spoken to several people, none of whom can explain why they weren't able to get my AC operational. I have also called the owner and manager and left many messages. What's more important than the lack of customer service is their ability to charge for a service that was not performed and 100% fixable. read more

They left us without help on a cooling issue during last year's heat wave, which was after doing preventative heating service and leaving a unit not working, shame on me for using them again. No apologies or follow-up. Plumbing used to be better than HVAC but this week they just want to take the most expensive possible route without good diagnostics. I am so disappointed in Burkell Plumbing. I had a good experience the first time I used them. Today was very different. Jeff showed up to access an issue I had and was incredibly rude to me. He was accusatory and blamed me for my other workers taking up the parking spots in my neighborhood. When I called to complain and explain what happened, the woman that answered the phone would not hear my complaint and defended Jeff stating, "maybe we're not a good match for you." The woman that answers the phone in the office was - to say the least - rude and crass when I inquired about the owner of the company: his official job and did he come to homes. We were having an ongoing problem with our kitchen drain. I had "repaired" it several times but the drain pipe would come apart - usually at the most inopportune times. We decided to call Burkell Plumbing. Jeremy Weaver came by and pointed out that our drain was not to code and that the problem was exasperated by the location of the drain outlet. He cut out the back of the cabinet, replaced the pipes resulting in a lower out-going drain with the bonus of a new clean-out where the old outlet once was. All is tight and works much better than previously - we no longer have water rusting out our garbage disposal as before. So, "five stars" to Jeremy and Burkell Plumbing! read more

Unprofessional. Rude. The receptionist attributes the bad behavior to the owner directly, who was heard ranting and screaming on the phone in the background -- we just wanted a pump replaced. They made an appointment and then the owner went off on a crazy rant about getting paid -- I've used them several times in the past and they always got paid before leaving the house. I've used Burkell plumbing twice - once for a heater issue and once to replace a water heater. The long and short of it is NOBODY likes calling a service company to their house and when you do it and get attitude for feel that you're being manipulated it can send you into a tizzy. So my approach is to work with a trustworthy company, spend the money and have it done right. The team at Burkell is just that- main switchboard gets info assigned to a team member quickly, they come out and are friendly people who do honest work and they get it done and get out in a reasonable amount of time. I have used Burkell 3 times this year. All jobs were handled satisfactorily and the first 2 were priced reasonably, not so the third. I did not nor did they offer a cost estimate. This proved to be a mistake. The job was to replace a water pressure regulator, a simple task I have performed myseif before my years caught up with me. The plumber they sent expanded the job to include a second regulator which was working fine. He did not test the second one before replacing it. Repeated requests for a bill were ignored. They charged my visa card for $650. I wrote to Burkell on June 7, expressing my complaint and again requesting a bill. I received no response until nearly a month later when the owner, Jacob Newman delivered a bill for one regulator plus a valve which was not part of the installation of the faulty regulator. When asked what I wanted him to do I told Mr. Newman I wanted it cut his bill in half, to cover one regulator. $325 is a reasonable charge for a half hour of work and a $100 device, based on their earlier billings. At that point he stalked out without a word. I have not heard from him since. read more

Roman Lewett did an excellent job for us a few days ago. We were having a systemic problem with intermittent groaning and rattling noises from multiple locations: washing machine, refrigerator water dispenser, and multiple sinks and toilets. We initially thought the problem was air in the system, but the problem persisted after we bled the lines. Ultimately, the problem was found to be excess pressure in the system due to a failed pressure reducer. Replacement of the reducer eliminated all of the systems. Came home after a long trip. My renter (in a small house on my property) told me the washer was flooded. Before buying a new washer, I called Burkell, which came the next day and diagnosed a faulty wayer pump. Instead of having to buy a new washer, all I needed was a new pump. The large ejection pump that sends waste water from a basement level bathroom and laundry room to the sewer line outside failed Sunday night. This toilet is the only one a very sick mother-in-law who lives with us is able to get to with her wheelchair. Left a message to please have someone call us first thing Monday morning. By 8AM Monday we had a highly-skilled, experienced plumber named Mark on his way over. He and his associate Sergio worked quickly to dismantle the old pipes and pull the failed pump from the subterranean vault outside. They then installed a more efficient system of piping, valves and the new pump--a big job--in under three hours. Smart, polite, efficient and tidy. I am pretty upset with the service from Burkell Plumbing and the rude conversation with owner Jake. I had Jeff out several times to fix a leaky faucet. It was 20 years old so I paid to have them out with incorrect replacement parts for which I was charged on 2 occassions. After paying over $400, they actually broke a faucet that was not in need of repair and accused me of trying to manipulate them to get free plumbing work done. They are not trustworthy, capable or polite to customers and I would highly recommend finding another plumber. read more

We have used Burkell several times in the last year and a half. The office staff is very courteous and friendly, quotes and call backs have always been spot on. Chris came to brainstorm a tricky situation involving our sink and dishwasher, that no one else could figure out, ultimately replacing our kitchen faucet, solving a months old problem. Knowing we needed to replace our hot water heater, sooner rather than later, Chris once again evaluated the job efficiently and honestly. Beware Burkell. I have never written a review before this but feel that people should be warned. A very expensive installation of heating system was done poorly, resulted in complete breakdown 3 times in 2 years directly after installation and due to problems with installation, not hardware. Billed for coming to assess their errors. Couldn't come up with acceptable fix. I finally gave up and got a reliable service to correct errors and fix the system at substantial extra cost to me, of course. Tried to resolve the issue with Burkell but they tried to blame me for their last error.....ridiculous. The service I called in was able to correct the problem immediately and at a lower cost. read more

Last week I discovered I had a serious leak my water main. Burkell came out first thing in the morning and came up with a plan A and B. Jeremy was at my house the next working day and within four hours the repair was done. Thank goodness plan A worked. Everyone we spoke to and worked with was professional and experienced.
