Having a long history with my last few dogs and Dr. Meade - who was amazing - I am highly disappointed with the care my dog has received since covid hit and Dr. Meade retired. Having an anxious animal makes it hard each visit - with having to give him calming meds that were prescribed by this new staff(which don't help) to getting him out of the car and into the building - and he won't go with one of them - has to be me. He has not seen a vet for a full physical in 4 years - has had his allergy shots and other shots in the car several times and even after the staff had covid last year (I know they had it as I had to change my appt because they were closed and they still were following the come out and take the animal policy they seem to have adopted). Over the past 4 years, We did have a great visit with a "fill in" vet last year when he needed an allergy shot, she went over, above, and beyond to check him out and get some overall other areas of his health covered, which was the only reason I didn't switch vets when his physical came up this years. This visit, I got an email to schedule his shots, physical, etc. I responded he needed his allergy shot also and they set the appointment. Gave him his medication to relax him the night before and day of the appt, pulled up to the parking lot - no more COVID note on the door (just lunch closed hours), I was relieved - took 10 minutes to get my dog out of the car, he is over 100 lbs and afraid of being there, get to the door and it is locked - again. Called them - they are still doing the tech to the car and then bring the pet in. Get the dog back in the car and he is now in full blown panic mode....and I am totally frustrated. Once again, this does not work for my dog, hasn't for the last 3-4 years. I expressed my concerns for the 100th time when the tech came out, asked if we could just do his rabies shot and allergy shot then as a visit isn't going to be possible with these conditions still being their mode of operation - not with his anxiety. She comes back out and says he is only scheduled for an allergy shot and can't see a vet today anyway as she is busy with a highly contagious animal. Wait, what? You sent me an email with all his things he needs and you only scheduled the allergy shot I added to the list???? And he takes medication to go to the vet - so you want me to do this again in a week or two??? She gives me some excuse about them having to clean everything because of the contagious cough and they would then let me bring him into a room to get his allergy shot. They did not care one bit that a long term client, basically told them to send the records over to a new vet that day. Just "we understand". Glad you understand....lol. They also proceeded to tell me how wonderful all of their 4 vets were (great, haven't seen one of them in 4 years....) Made an appt with Cambridge Street Animal Hospital while in the parking lot. The woman on the phone was great and very helpful, got him in for this week so he can get his rabies shot before it expires and be seen - even have an anxious pet entrance area. Happy already. It is sad to end a relationship with any business, but it was necessary. read more

My cat has been going to this places for couple of years. The doctors in there are amazing, they provided clear and simple directions and information to the pet owner. Even they take the pet to the back for procedure. I fully trust the doctors here. However for this year's visit, the nurse(with red hair, glasses, tall and slim she was wearing a red scrub that day) who is doing the nurse initial assessment of my cat, she is just rude, impatient and not helpful at all. I was uncomfortable at the beginning, until I met the doctor. We had 12 consecutive, wonderful years with Dr. Meade and his staff treating our two dogs. However, if I could give the new vets who now run the practice zero stars, I would. If you like attitudes that are sanctimonious, superior, and deaf to your concerns then by all means see Drs. Klopfer and Gardiner. We brought our Golden in about a possible skin infection around the mouth. We wanted to get ahead of it. All Klopfer did was berate us about a collar totally dismissing the skin issue. We had to ask her several times to look at it. I was sobbing in the car. Getting Rx refilled with Gardiner was a nightmare to the point that even the Costco pharmacist called us perplexed at the change in a maintenance prescription. Now, with our new vet, our Golden is being treated with meds because the condition did worsen. Rx are now smoothly ordered and not a problem. One truly horrible experience with Klopfer should have been enough. But the second one with Gardiner made us leave and not look back. I cannot recommend this practice more poorly. What a sad fall. Dr. Meade was wonderful. Klopfer and Gardiner delivered one of the worst, most degrading service experiences we have ever experienced with any business any where. read more

Was looking for a vet who takes exotics, so I booked a double appointment for our senior cat and ferret. Dr Meade and his staff were wonderful! He spent a almost a full hour answering our questions and giving both of our pets a comprehensive exam. My cat is older and spends most of his time outside (I have given up with trying to force him to stay inside) and Dr. Meade recommended testing him for FIV (which I wanted to do anyhow), but didn't make me feel pressured into running unnecessary screenings. I've worked at a practice where customers leave spending $700 on a dog blood screen for a younger dog, so I know the game some vets play. My cat has a clean bill of health and can at least enjoy being outside this Fall. I also was nervous about vaccinating our ferret because they can sometimes have adverse reactions to vaccines, but he eased my anxiety. Overall we had a great experience. read more

We were clients for 6 years before new owners came in. The young ladies in the front desk have zero training on customer service. They were actually very disrespectful and yelled at me siting from their chairs that I had to leave the building because they were under construction and blah, blah liability stuff. They patronize me and treated me like I was a 6 year old kid. They don't have the courtesy to let you know in advance, over the phone or a text as they used to during covid, that someone will take your pet from the parking lot. Speaking of which, it's been already a while since Covid restrictions have been lifted, they still want to make business with that Drive-thru approach in which you are not even allowed to ask questions to the Vet. The technician came outside and even though she was more composed, she was non-apologetic supporting her friends and instead said "you should go somewhere else if this place doesn't work for you", to which, of course I did and said that was exactly what I was thinking after a similar experience I had two months ago when I went and picked up a refill. Started with Dr. Meade because he was highly recommended. After he left, the staff dwindled to two vets. Then there was only one left (as of March, 2022). The quality of care seemed fine, although I have nothing to compare it to. Vet techs and phone staff are great, but the difficulty of getting an appointment or seeing a vet in person leads me to give this negative review. I hope they can get their act together. read more

I'm extremely impressed with Dr. Meade and his staff. I have two dogs and one has a lot of physical issues. Dr. Meade and Co take such good care of both of my boys. He takes the time to listen to me when I express concern, helps me save money on the hundreds of dollars in meds my handicapped dog needs, and talks to them like he's known them forever. Both of my boys just love him. My handicapped dog had developed quite a fear of vet offices due to the number of surgeries he's had in his life, but he has no problems or fears here. If I call to ask a question, Dr. Meade himself calls me back and helps however he can. In sum, I've taken my boys here for 2 years and I could not recommend them more. Might've miss-clicked the recommend this business option by accident but I 100% do recommend this vet. No vets were available and taking new clients because of covid and my new puppy (first time owner) needed a regular vet and to be vaccinated. This vet hospital called me back immediately the second they had an opening and were very helpful answering all my questions. My puppy, who often barks at new people, didn't bark as much during this visit so I know he was treated well. I hope all my next visits will be as smooth and nice as was my first one. Quick tip: don't bring a low car as the hill is quite steep and might scrape your bumper on the way out. read more

There are really no words to describe how happy and grateful I am to have found Dr. Meade and his staff. He was recommended to me by multiple people after my little Westie puppy had a horrible and traumatizing experience at a vet clinic in Boston when he was just 4 months old. Dr. Meade, knowing this, has been so unbelievably patient, kind, and understanding with my little guy to the point where I have teared up when seeing how much he cares for my puppy and animals in general. He is wonderful with them and with us parents. But it is not just Dr. Meade who is wonderful, each and every one of his staff is just as kind, patient, and amazing. As a first time puppy mommy, I am a little on the anxious side. But, as soon as I walk through the door, I feel a sense of relief and calm knowing that my little guy is well-liked (even at times when he is having a "temper tantrum") and will be well taken care of. My little guy recently got neutered and I could not have been more pleased with how well they cared for him pre, during, and post surgery. He is as cute as can be, but I know he can be a handful! Dr. Meade and his staff take this all in stride and mix in a combination of knowledge, experience, patience, and a great sense of humor. The cheese in a can also helps! :-) Even though my puppy still doesn't "love" going to the vet, he is so much less anxious with Dr. Meade as compared to our first vet and he often wants to stay longer as his visit is wrapping up. Our little Teddy Bear hamster, Ginger, ran under the stove when we were baking. She burned her ears pretty bad and I am sure she was in a lot of pain. I took her to see a Doctor nearby and they gave her some pain meds and antibiotics, they also told me that she will need a surgery. I was very concern about because she is very little and the anesthesia could have be very bad for her. I wanted a second opinion so I took her at the Burlington Vet Hospital after a search. I drove to see if i could get an appointment and when I arrived, one of the assistants checked on her and she said that the hamster will not need any surgeries and that the Dr. Meade could just give her one treatment. I was happy to hear that and although the Dr. Meade was busy performing a surgery for a dog, he saw her a soon as possible. After Dr. Meade checked on her and told me that she didn't need any surgery, he gave her a treatment he explained everything about the burn and how to protect the hamster of any bacteria or infection. He also explained to me how to summit the medicine and the right way to take care of her. Now she is well and happy, she is ok thanks to Dr. Meade and his staff.. they are very professional and I am very happy that I took my hamster there for a second opinion. Called to schedule appt. for particular pet issue. Wanted to review pricing, as I hate surprise bills. Was told since my pet was a new client, I would be charged $68 for a physical automatically. That entailed looking at ears, listening to heart, and basic body overview. That works, it's been a while, so that sounds like a positive for the $$. For the particular pet issue, it would be another $33.50. I'm expecting the $98.50 plus a bit more for medication if necessary. No physical was administered. No heart check, no ears looked at. Only the issue that brought me there in the first place, was dealt with. Upon payment, I was charged the full physical price ? But there was no physical. I mention that when I called, I was told the $68 was for a physical, nurse says, the price is the same price for an appointment or physical. Huh? To top it off, I was charged a "new patient registration" of $10. Don't you want the new business? Most business owners hope their client list grows. But you penalize the new clients who come to your business and make you money??? In the end, my bill was $170. To boot, I waited over 30 minutes to be seen and the place was empty and no one acknowledged my waiting time. Irritating. They're charge happy and very misleading at the initiation of the appt. Watch out for add on fees, hidden charges and not getting what you pay for, IF you go to this business. I won't be returning. read more

Dr. Meade and his staff are amazing. A first time dog owner, I have been bringing my dog to his office for routine medical care since he was 8 weeks old. Dr. Meade has been fantastic at taking the time to learn about my dog and his habits, providing welcome advice on the basics of puppy/dog care. The vet techs (particularly Steph) always welcome us when we come in for a visit and truly care about my beloved dog. They have very reasonable hours (weekend and evening appointments) and I have never had a problem getting an appointment when it was needed. I also appreciate that I never get a hard sell on specialized products or food from the vet. He has always been honest with recommending the best options for us. I have had amazing service at this clinic! I've been taking my Italian Greyhound here for routine check-ups and vaccinations for a while now. He suddnenly broke his 2 front legs and they were able to help tremendously. They have always been extremely sweet to my rather shy, small dog (who HATES the vet). I cannot say enough good things about this place. I've been going here about a year now, I started when I first moved into town. My dog has pretty bad fear-based aggression and doesn't get along well with men and other dogs (he's a GSD rescue). Dr. Meade and staff have always been amazing. Couldn't imagine a better place to bring my new puppy. Dr. Meade takes the time to fully examine my pup and answer any and all questions that I have. He was even able to successfully distract my puppy so that he didn't react at all to his immunization (with the help of a tasty treat). I agree with other reviewers that Dr. Meade and his staff are competent and have a good rapport with animals. But I found their billing style completely inappropriate. Note I am referring to a sneaky billing style; not the high expenses. Example: my dog had surgery there. It cost 50% more than estimated. I was okay with this, as I know things are unpredictable. But I was told the follow-up visit to remove the stitches was included. It was; however what they failed to mention was that there was a "Medical Progress Examination" that cost over $40 ("discounted" rate). This type of ambush billing occured on other occasions as well. I am fortunate to be able to afford the best for my dog, such as organic food and a dog walker. But my encounters with this clinic left me feeling utterly exploited, tricked, and misused. read more

I am really happy to have found Dr. Meade. He clearly loves animals and has a wonderful intuition about them. Although my dog can be a bit aloof with new people, and does not like going to the vet (always tries to sneak out), I can tell that she trusts Dr. Meade. He puts her at ease in a situation that is not a pleasant one for her. I also like that his treatments and he always takes the time to explain everything to me. I learn something every time we visit. Once I brought my dog in because of an upset stomach. He wrote out a recipe for me to cook her out of turnips and sweet potatoes. My dog liked this recipe and I liked his approach. read more

They have great expertise and knowledge with rodents, which is hard to find outside of Angel Memorial. I have been taking my dogs, and occasionally my cats, to Burlington Vet for the last 18 yrs. Dr. Meade is fantastic. He is so knowledgeable and has a great "bedside manner".... I am very picky as I have owned German Shepherds and many vets are not comfortable with that breed. Dr Meade has always been incredibly patient and the vet techs are wonderful. We recently decided to leave Burlington Veterinary Hospital, as we we overall unsatisfied with the care our two dogs received there. My dog had masses around her mammaries. We brought her in August 2017 for a needle aspiration, and Dr. Meade said the results were nothing to be concerned about and to take a wait-and-see approach. Luckily, .she was back in the office again a month to two later for digestive issues, and Dr. Gardener expressed concern about the masses and pushed us to biopsy, as tumors in that area can be very aggressive. Dr. Meade performed the biopsy, and we had significant issues with the wound healing (at one point, he recommended smearing sugar on the wound rather than administering an oral antibiotic). Results came back that the tumor was malignant, and we went to a specialist (had to wait a month for an appointment) for a discussion and second surgery. In discussion with the specialist, we learned that the results of the needle aspirate from August were actually very indicative of mammary cancer (textbook, he said). This was infuriating to learn two months later, as so many months were wasted when we could have been treating our poor girl. Wound healing with the second surgery (larger incision size) was a breeze in comparison to the nightmare we had with Dr. Meade. Got the all clear after her surgery, but they just discovered small mets in her lungs in her recent specialist check-up. I can't help but think that earlier treatment would have been beneficial. All-in-all, I'd say Dr. Gardner is great, but I'm giving this hospital a 1 because our primary was Dr. Meade. They're fine for vaccinations/annual visits, but I would look to a different practice for anything else. read more

I don't think it is possible to rave enough about Dr. Meade... I was so over anxious with my 6 week old puppy, and he consistently returned my phone calls and calmed my nerves. He is not only FANTASTIC with a healthy puppy, but even better with a sick one. I think something that I love about him, aside from his expertise, is that he takes the TIME to chat with you and listen to you (even if your concerns are ludicris), and seems to genuinely love my dog. He has helped when my dog had some crummy GI bugs/issues, and has figured out his allergy issues better than a dermatologist. He is always available to see my pup, even last minute. The staff that work with him have gotten to know my VERY vocal dog, and treat him like their own. Will never go anywhere else! (My pup is now a very vocal almost 2 year old, and we have been going to Dr. Meade since 6 wks!) read more

I brought my two guinea pigs to Dr. Meade today. I have never met anyone so caring and compassionate towards animals. He treated my piggies with respect and truly cared for them. He also showed me how to do a couple of things for them at home. He will certainly be the family vet and I will refer him to anyone in the area looking for a vet.
