Nice try, but be honest. You do NOT bake your bread fresh daily. The bread for my sandwich was the stalest I've ever had. Maybe baked fresh a week ago but certainly not today. Completely hard and unedible. Also, you obviously don't know what "pulled" pork is. Large chunks of pork smothered in the weakest bbq sauce I've ever tasted. Do yourself a favor and travel to Texas at least once in your life. Look at and taste the "pulled" pork. I feel the other people that have no idea what good bbq should taste like. read more

The barbecue is just awful. Steer clear of the brisket. The "sausage" is chopped up hot dogs. No prices anywhere. The people working there seem miserable. The vibe dining in is very uncomfortable. The only reason I give two stars is the cinnamon roll. That was very good. read more

We came 30 minutes before closing and the employee asked if we could take it to go. I understood. I tried the bbq nachos and spicy beef jerky. They don't have prices labeled. The spicy beef jerky seemed like it was sitting there for ages. I've never had stale jerky but it would probably taste like that. The bbq nachos were just as horrendous. Whenever I am near Lake Ouachita I always make it a point to stop at Burls. They have the most fantastic and Rather large corned beef sandwiches that are most delicious! I ate half and saved half for later. The bread is fresh, service is wonderful and the little store that is attached has some wonderful preserves. Bring an ice chest because they also have delicious smoked sausage and beef jerky. Often times smokehouse is overdue the smoke flavor. Burls does it just right! read more

We ended up throwing the food away it was so bad. It was unfortunate because we had to pay for another restaurant afterwards, but it was the right choice. Purchased some awful beef jerky from Burl's today. It tasted like beef boiled in salt water with liquid smoke. It was also extremely tough.

Stopped by Burl's and picked up some beef jerky, which is the best ever. You have to have them sprinkle on some of the seasonings!!! Got a couple pounds of the sliced smoked turkey and cheddar cheese too!! read more

Ribs were really good. Pulled pork was extremely dry. In my opinion, their bbq sauce is too sweet and lacks flavor. Turkey sandwich was just ok. Bread was stale. Spicy beef jerky was excellent. But at $39 a pound, the price is too steep to buy it often. read more

We made an extra trip out to Burls on a recommendation for their jerky and cinnamon rolls. Unfortunately we were pretty disappointed. The jerky was extremely tough and the cinnamon rolls, though bigger than your head, were quite bland and very sparse on the frosting. We ordered a few sandwiches for lunch on their homemade bread and again, were not overly impressed. What WAS impressive was the bill, running just about $100 for lunch, 2 cinnamon rolls and a half lbs of of jerky. Sorry Burls, but we won't be making the trip out to see you again. read more

The BEST BBQ I've ever had! And I've had a LOT of BBQ from all over the south including Tennessee, Texas, and Louisiana. Yes, it's an old school joint and don't expect it to be fast, but it's 100% worth the wait. The pulled pork and BQQ beef sandwiches are to die for and you've GOT to buy a jar of their homemade BBQ sauce. They make their own bread and all kinds of other stuff in-house and the meat has a true smoke flavor from their smokehouse next door. Go here, you won't be sorry! Ps. Stopped in for with my family for lunch sat 8-31. They have lots of interesting artifacts. The dining area was rustic but cozy. The service was just ok- nothing special. Overall, the food was not good. I had a pulled pork plate with potato salad and baked beans. The potato salad was good but nothing special. The pulled pork and beans were very salty. I was hungry but could only eat half of my sandwich and couple bites of beans. The pulled pork had a Smokey flavor and probably would have been good had it not been so salty. I requested extra sauce for my sandwich and it was very salty also. Overall a negative experience. But, as a plus, the homemade bread was good and the huge cinnamon rolls were excellent. read more

Long line, slow service, and not a lick of BBQ in sight. We ended up eating cold deli sandwiches at a premium price. Wasn't worth the weight or money. We drove by multiple times on our two trips to Mt. Ida and finally decided to stop for lunch. So glad we did! The food was fantastic, especially the cinnamon rolls as big as your head, but my grandson LOVED the history lesson the place freely offers and the extremely well behaved farm ccats that joined us outside for lunch. This place was the worst bbq I have ever had. The meat was all in a chiller, cut to order and then stuck in the microwave. The service took 1/2 an hour in line to be served Smart & Final potatoe salad and cole slaw. The best part were the Lays chips and a can of Dr. Pepper. Don't waste your time or money on this place. This is like a free museum where you can buy awesome food. I've only had the sandwiches but they also have bbq. They even have their own jerky! The turkey and smoked cheddar on fresh, like cooked there 'fresh', bread can't be beat. There is seating inside where you can see the creek. This place USED to be amazing. Now it's just incredibly gross and disappointing. The entire place is swimming in flies, the bathroom is a nightmare, the trays, bins, etc. are filthy, the food is nowhere near worth the price, and the service was super slow and frustrating. There were three people behind the counter during our last trip, and no one on the cash register. We waited 20 minutes to buy three drinks because they were all busy making one sandwich each (painfully slowly) while the line built up to 15-20 people. If it hadn't been so far to the next gas station we wouldn't have even bought the drinks. They were kind of polite, and the antiques are still mildly interesting, but otherwise this place is just awful and only succeeding on the reputation of previous management. read more

Burl's is an old country store/ smoke house/ mini restaurant all in one... It may honestly have the best smoked meat I have ever eaten. I had enough to feed a small army...a combination of beef sticks, beef jerky, smoked turkey, smoked habanero cheese, and smoked Swiss cheese! All delicious!!! I also ordered a BBQ Beef Brisket sandwich with smoked cheddar on top. It literally melted in my mouth ...so damn tender and good! Best ever! Also enormous cinnamon rolls (Burls Mothers family recipe)...delicious! Last but not least...Burl's has canned/ jarred vegetables, chow chow, pickled eggs, and many varieties of homemade breads! So much great food and stuff to look at! Have to spend some time here to really appreciate all they have to offer! Wine is great - Amish goods are great - Deli/Smokehouse meats are incredible....jams, jellies, pickled EVERYTHING...take some sauces and seasonings home and impress everyone you know! Keep going north up the hill about a mile or two and turn right on Makena nut mountain an...it will be a dirt road...continue up the hill for about 4 miles, on the way you come across a fork in the road...stay left. Continue up and you'll find a desserted campground with a fire pit and picnic benches. A portipotti restroom-but no need to utilize as your hidden amoung nature. read more
