The two proprietors argued about what they should charge me to put patches on a sweater. I thought that was rather unprofessional.

I dropped off my white heavy winter jacket for dry cleaning and some dirty spots from wearing nothing heavy like blood stains or anything that can't come out at the dry cleaners. Paid $50, went home jacket looked clean and bright like new at first BUT none of the stains were cleaned. I just went in the store to ask if that can be cleaned or is it permanent stain. The owner got defensive and annoyed right away even though I did not accused or point finger I just politely asked if that's possible to clean or not. He went in the back and cleaned the stain, I showed him another one and he cleaned that one I showed him another and he cleaned that one also but then he got annoyed and pretty much didn't want to clean up just talked about how white color has stains etc etc. But my point is that he cleaned the stains when I asked him to clean, my understanding is that the gentleman just cleaned the jacket without taking time to clean the stains, that's why I brought the jacket to a professional place and paid him for the service. Bottom line he cleaned the jacket like you would do in the wash machine but did not take time to get the water stains out which he did only when I came back to ask about it. Now I have to look for another dry cleaner and pay again to get the stains out. read more

I was very pleased with my service from this cleaners they were friendly and nice and were able to clean a stain off a dress I needed for a wedding in 24 hours. It cost $12 but that's probably including a rush fee for the 24 hour service. Overall I was pleased with my experience. read more

Here's the thing... When it comes to dry cleaning, there are many options in Chicago. These people did a good and professional job. With that said, the guy who is at the counter, in every encounter I've had with him (6), has been at best, moody and at worst kind of a short, impatient ahole. And while this could be a cross cultural thing, it absolutely would not kill this man to smile every now and again or show genuine appreciation for his customers. He obviously does not like people and doesn't want to be there and it's bad for business. If he is the owner (which I think he is) I suggest he hires someone more pleasant to be the face of his business to the customer or seriously consider investing in customer service training. read more

I brought two items in here, a coat and a quilt. The coat was a mess when I brought it in and I was very pleased with the results. The quilt however, didn't look all that clean when I got it back. For $40, I had hoped to not see most of the same dirt stains (courtesy of my dog) when I got it back. They're friendly and fast, so I'd give them another try, but I wasn't totally impressed. read more

I brought in a sport coat and a shirt. The sport coat had an ink stain on the back. When I came to pick them up, I had no cash on me. Tab was about $8. The owner gave me a dirty look and told me he wouldn't accept debit or credit for that small an amount. Feeling sheepish (I usually DO to pay cash for small items), I left, drove to an ATM down the street and got cash. When I got the sport coat back, it still had the ink stain. The owner mumbled that the stain was permanent. I was like "You can't get an ink stain out?". I though this odd, but, what did I know? Even so, I was irritated by the overall service. About a two months later, I needed to bring in the same sport coat and I went to Greenwood One Hour Cleaners at Greenwood/Touhy in Park Ridge (about 1/2 mile way). The price was less expensive, the coat ready on-time and sure enough, the ink spot was gone. Looking back, I don't think Burmans even cleaned my garment. My wife has had better experiences with Burmans but I will be taking my business elsewhere....sometimes, one bad experience with a commodity service is all it takes to lose business!! read more

Burmans is owned by a married couple. The woman is pleasant, the husband is an ass and is rude and unappreciative of his clientele. I pointed out the fact that a shirt was not cleaned properly, and he exploded in a fit of rage. Not a one off incident, but the norm with him. We spend close to $2000 a year at Burmans for horrible customer service and average quality cleaning. I took my business down the road to US Cleaners in Park Ridge. read more

I've been going to Burmans for about 10 years, even though I moved out of the immediate neighborhood a number of years ago. The dry cleaning is consistently very strong, but the alterations are what keeps me coming back. I am a sewer but don't have the time, patience or skill to do what they do. I've brought some very time-consuming and tricky alterations, and they always deliver beautiful results within a week. read more
