I did laundry here once and the machines were horrible. I never came back since then. I saw that they had a renovation so, I kept an eye on them. Support your local laundromat ! Thx Boss Lady ! Still don't know her name. Still a decent place ... I recently purchased a washer so, I don't need to come out much. I only come out when I need to wash the blankets. Today, I witness some of the machines with mold. That's disgusting ! I always put bleach or vinegar when I wash here. New machines but, poorly maintain. The service at this place is top notch. I brought a king sized comforter here to be washed and she was kind and very willing to use free and clear detergent. She even waited for me a little after hours to come and collect my blanket the same day! The price is beyond reasonable and the cheery service makes coming here a no brainer. Doing laundry at home can be cumbersome sometimes. Using one washer for a family of four can take forever so when I'm in a hurry I go the self serve coin laundromat. This place is also great to wash rugs, comforters, pillows or anything else that may not otherwise fit in your home washer. This two store front establishment has 3 fifty lb. washers at $4 a load, 4 forty lb. washers at $3 a load, 7 thirty lb. washers at $2 a load, 12 eighteen lb. washers at $1.75 a load, 19 regular washers at $1.50 a load. They also have 2 spinners (which ring out the majority of the water for shorter drying time) at 25 cents a load and 14 dryers at 25 cents for about 7 minuets a load. The owners (a dad and daughter) are friendly people who are always willing to help their customers answering questions about stains or which washer to use. They also have a laundry service for 99 cents a pound. My kids love it here and look forward to a slurpee next door between loads. read more

The apartment building has been under new management for about 6 months now. In that time, a lot of changes have been made to improve its esthetics. Management decided this week would be the best time for maintenance to shut down and overhaul the entire laundry room. In the meantime, we had two choices: buy new and continue to accumulate dirty laundry or find a laundromat with the Yelp app and just do it. My boyfriend, suffering from insomnia, decided he couldn't wait until 6am for a laundromat to open today. So, he made matters worse by trying to wash his towels and boxers by hand in the bathtub. I woke up to a wet bathroom floor with oscillating fans blowing at their highest speeds in a feeble attempt to "air dry". I didn't have plans to do laundry today but he left me with no choice and more chores... Family Pride is closest from us, just 2.2 miles away. The picture of this place is a bit deceiving. Let's just say it was a "that figures" moment for me when my boyfriend said the proprietor told him she'd been working here for over 37 years. While the laundromat is clean on the surface, the equipment is really old but in good, working condition. Without instructions, it took guessing to figure out how to operate the dryers and the manager telling us that one quarter delivers 7 minutes of drying time. My boyfriend is a plumber so he couldn't help himself to lean over and look at the back of the washing machines so he could check out the cobwebs, I mean the cast iron pipe. With the antiquated machines, decor, furniture... Family Pride receives 2 stars because I have trouble wrapping my head around the idea that our stuff is fresh and clean. However, it deserves 3 stars for staff service, cleanliness and maintenance; most notably, anytime our community laundry room is inaccessible, we'll be reminded not to take for granted the availability and existence of these alternative laundromats! read more

If you want to know a country, go to its laundromats. You see all of it--the young first-apartment couples, leaning on each other as they watch their clothes spin in the dryer; the working mother, who takes turns unloading the washers and helping her kids with their math homework; the father reading the Sun-Times while waiting for his clothes to finish, hoping he'll be able to replace his busted washing machine soon so he can take another when-we-can-afford-it task off his to-do list. They're all here--the always-moving women, the too-comfortable men, the older couple who washes housecoats and sweatpants while doing the crossword; the plumber with the shirts he's been banned from washing at home and the grandma with the load of blankets that still smell like her spoiled, sticky, grubby, miss-'em-already grandchildren who stayed at her house over Christmas break. I'd like to do a writing residency in a laundromat for a month and interview the people who come and go. It's a mecca for situations and stories and personalities. I've been a variation on a few of the aforementioned patrons in my life. This last time? The guy with the broken washing machine. Thankfully, three of my kids--and their laundry--are away at school but between me, my wife and my youngest daughter, the clothes still pile up. And when the kids came home for Thanksgiving and winter break, my wife or I brought in loads and loads and loads of clothes. And each time, we'd leave with baskets of freshness, content that our family could spend time together without smelling like Lincoln Park Zoo in August. As far as the nuts-and-bolts of laundromats, this is a great place. Super clean, working washing machines in various sizes, lots of those groovy, wheeled carts for the washer-dryer transfer, a stainless-steel wall of dryers and plenty of folding tables. Plus, there's a 7-Eleven right next door for the occasional bag of Andy Capp's Hot Fries and a can of Diet Coke. And the owner is great--friendly and attentive--and the other customers are courteous and quick. Mostly, I love this place because it reminds me of Ernest Hemingway's "A Clean, Well-Lighted Place," which is a wonderful short story, probably one of his best. The story takes place in a small cafe where an old, deaf man comes to sit quietly and drink. An older and younger waiter discuss why he's there and why he makes them wait each night to close. While the young waiter wants to get home to his wife, the older waiter--knowing that it's loneliness that keeps the old man at the cafe until closing each night, and that he is in a similar place in his life--points out that the old man simply needs a "clean and pleasant cafe. It is well lighted. The light is very good ... ." I'm not sure how often he shows up but I've seen a solitary old man come into the laundromat on occasion and wash nothing more than three or four things at a time. He takes his place in a seat against the windows, either reading a magazine or sitting still with a pleasant look on his face while waiting for his clothes to finish. He then folds them, places them in a small grocery bag and leaves. I think I've seen him take clothes out of the dryer and put them back into a washing machine a second time, extending his stay. Places like this--and more importantly, the people who run them--are essential to not only our pragmatic responsibilities but in many ways, our emotional needs. I don't know the old man's story and I may be totally off on my assessment, but it seems that Family Pride fills a definite void in his life, if only for an hour or two. I used to think death was the great equalizer. Then I thought it was old age. Now, I think it's loneliness--the unavoidable era of life that's possible in family-filled homes and studio apartments. My mother-in-law is in an assisted-living facility a few blocks from here and my mother lives in a condo a few miles away. The old man reminds me of both, and of my own responsibility in providing them some company and comfort as they get older. I'm not great at it but I try. The old man reminds me I need to try harder. But he also makes me thankful for the communal, simple act of washing, drying and folding clothes in this "clean, well-lighted place." read more

Buck-and-a-half washers, quarter dryers in a clean enough little laundromat located in a small strip mall shared with a 7-11. Free parking in the lot or on the side street. A mix of standard top loaders and various sizes of side loaders. Some broken machines here and there, but it's cheap and workable. read more

This is about the only self serve laundry mat in Norwood park. Over the summer there was a fire in the main laundry area which still has not been open to the public roughly six months now. This is a problem for those who need quarters when the wash as the machine is in the closed of area. This place is not very clean and now that there's only one area available it looks even worse. Coming today there were chairs in the middle of the floor, people's empty coffee cups and soda bottles, chip bags and laundry soap just left on chairs and machines. The floor alone is a tripping hazard and I know there are elderly people who use this facility. It looks like this place was just left to the wolves and forgotten. It really should be sold to someone who can put the money in to update and clean it. I've now managed to clean up and throw away other people's trash along with putting the baskets and chairs back just to sit comfortably. This will most likely be my last visit. read more

I only come here because it is close. Too many washers and dryers are regularly broken. Not unusual for towels to be on the floor due to leaking washers. The owner is nice, but puts no money into repair and maintenance. Set your wash to warm and you only get cold. Only come as last resort. read more

The washer went out in my condo so I stopped by here to do a couple loads to get me by till mine got fixed. Family Pride was very clean, looked really cute and was attended by the owner who was nice. The prices seemed cheap to me, I am happy I went there. read more
