The jacket was very dirty, especially around the sleeves, and would not wash out with a regular washing, and after getting dry cleaned, the whole jacket looked completely BRAND NEW! They got it done very quickly and were both very kind, which I appreciated so much. They also added in getting a tear in my pocket fixed for very cheap, which I appreciated as well. I discovered that my winter coat from the previous winter season was filthy dirty and I considered throwing it away, but I figured I would ask someone to try and revive it. I should have taken before and after pictures - no one will believe how dirty and full of stains the sleeves and collar were before. At first, the owner was a bit apprehensive about the stains. It took a while, but the results were worth it. They had to wash it 3 times in order to clean the coat! It looks perfect like a new coat now. I bought a discounted floor sample wedding dress for my upcoming wedding this summer and I knew I needed to get it dry cleaned somewhere. What I didn't know was that dry cleaning a dress could cost anywhere from $150 -$600! I did a ton of research and ultimately decided to go with Highland Square Cleaners based on Yelp reviews. Pricing was midrange of the places I found, and living in Lincoln Park, it was also quite a trek up north but it was 100% worth it. I got my alterations (reinforce the buttons, 1-point bustle, shorten the straps, add bra cups) and cleaning done for a very reasonable price and they were able to turn it around in just about a month. Suzy and her husband are very sweet and they did a great job with the cleaning. The dress looked like new! The alterations were also great - I think I might have to redo the bustle because it ended up being a little too long and after some research, I realized a 3-point bustle might be better fitting since the train is so long and heavy. I came here twice for alterations, and more times than I can remember for cleaning of nicer clothes, like my silk tees and dresses. I picked up a fabulous red jacket at the thrift store that needed the sleeves shortened and buttons tightened. The jacket had lined sleeves so that was easily 2-3 the work of a 'normal' sleeve, especially because decorative buttons had to be moved! They did a fantastic job, couldn't be happier. At another time I needed pants taken in and hemmed. These trousers turned out fantastic, too! I love their cute little changing room. It's clean and functional, and well-lit. It's tucked into a small corner and has a step up/down. If you are on crutches or in a wheelchair this may not work for you. Also if you are claustrophobic or a very tall or large person, you may find the changing room lacking. I love how neat the alterations work area is kept. Customers can see projects stashed in their little alterations cupboard and I don't worry about my project getting dirty from clutter or dust. As a side note -- Please remember to bring back your hangars and recycle the plastic coverings! We remove the paper and staples and include with our plastic-bag recycling. read more

After my wedding, I did a lot of research to find the best place to take my wedding dress, as I had read many reviews of brides whose dresses were ruined. I also had a belt that was permanently affixed to the dress and many of the rhinestones in different shapes and sizes were missing. I have been going to Highland Square cleaners for more than 10 years now. The owners Tommy and Suzy are the nicest and most personable couple I have ever seen running a business together. No matter what, you are always greeted with big smiles and warm personalities. It's almost impossible not to sit for at least five or 10 minutes and chat. Suzy's tailoring skills are expert level and exceed your average service of "we shorten pants" that most dry cleaners offer. I fall into the extreme end of being petite and have never bought an item of clothing that didn't need to be altered in some way. Suzy is always able to take whatever I bought off the rack and make it look like it was made just to fit me. On several occasions when coming to pick stuff up Suzy will have me try an item on and then she'll keep it to tweak the fit in some way. The level of personal service is above and beyond, and you can tell that Suzy really takes pride in her work. The dry cleaning services are great and the prices are on par with similar businesses. For dry cleaning I am always given my price upfront. While I can't always be quoted a price for my alterations on the spot (because my clothes often need a little extra), I am always given an estimate that is pretty close to the total.
