We were in the area and found Burnt Ends BBQ. With a nice open space, easy to find, just walk right up to the back of the place and place your order. They will bring it out when it's ready. While you're waiting try your hand at Cornhole. There are four set ups and all inside. Want a beverage, not a problem. Full bar and many local brew offerings in tap form know and not so know breweries. Good came out fast and was very appealing. Many sauces to choose from. Sides were great. I did pickled beets and collard greens. I just got back from Nashville where I had collard greens for the first time and theirs is right up there. Slightly watery but very tasty. Cornbread was moist and delicious. The wings are AMAZING! Service is amazing, they were very patient, welcoming and attentive to any food allergies. They didn't my five stars because I felt the burnt ends were a bit over done, but still delicious. First time at the new location. Have previously tried this joint when it was located in Lewiston, ME. They have moved to Auburn. Usually, when checking out a "new" bbq joint, I like to order a sampler platter of some kind. No such thing is available here. So, the order was for three items. The Brisket platter with fries and beans. The Beef Burnt Ends platter with slaw and mac'n'cheese. The 'by the pound' Four Bones. All of the orders came with pickles, corn bread and butter. After ordering and paying for the food, we moved over to the bar to order a beer. Yes, food and beer are ordered separately at separate locations and separate transactions. We took the numbered basket of sauces, and our beer, to a table. The food was brought to us when ready. Beans: hard, and tasted like the pan burned and this was scraped from the bottom of the burned pan of beans. Fries: soggy and mushy Slaw: probably the best food of the day. Fresh tasting and pleasant. Mac'n'cheese: pasta was overcooked. Bland and not very cheesy. Corn bread: was actually cold, like it came fresh out of the fridge. Whipped butter was tasty, and warmer than the bread. Ribs: fall off the bone, literally. Thoroughly charred, but no smoke ring. Tasted like a house on fire at the char, no flavor to the meat. At least is was not dried up. Brisket: dried up. No smoke ring. Charred, but no flavor. Brash taste of fire, but not the subtle flavor of a good slow smoke. Beef Burnt Ends: huge chunks of greasy pot roast that was somehow dry to chew. Again with the char, but lacking the art of slow smoke. There is a Jenga and some bean toss boards. The "private room" is a section of open floor and tables with a 3/4 partition from the rest of the restaurant. Oh, the sauces: Ketchup with some other seasoning. Really, read the label. In the area and looking for a lunch spot with gluten free options. This place popped up and it didn't disappoint. You can smell the BBQ in the air when you step out of the vehicle. I had high expectations based on some of the feedback I was hearing, but unfortunately I was very disappointed. I arrived around 12:19pm, about 1 hour and 20 minutes after they open. My thought is arrive early and get the freshest meats off the smoker. The establishment is very clean and well kept. Staff is friendly and young even the ones I saw in the kitchen. For the prices they were asking, again I was expecting good quality meats with great flavors from the smoker and their in-house sauces. I ordered the Brisket platter which includes 1/2lbs of beef brisket, cornbread and two sides. I chose their handout fries and coleslaw. I also ordered some of their beef burnt ends (1/4lb) because it's in their name and I am expecting mind-blowing flavors. When my number was called and I retrieved my platter, I could immediately tell it looked delicious so I was looking forward to it. That's where the excitement ended. I started with the burnt ends which were good size (you got 2 pieces for 1/4lb) and they were lightly brushed with bbq sauce. First bit took a little effort to break through and once inside immediately tasted how dry the meat was. I was having difficulty understanding how burnt ends are dry given I am used to seeing BBQ places smoke the fat cap more and then serve that as burnt ends. This felt more like poor man's burnt ends using a chuck roast. The consistency just didn't seem like it was brisket. The brisket was dry and you could tell visually before diving into it. The ends were the only moist parts. You can see a nice smoke ring, but I was not a big fan of the dry rub they used on it. It just didn't give it any flavor that made me want to devour it. I tried to impart some form of moisture with their house sauces which were good, but nothing to write home about (yet I am talking about it here..lol). What you see in the picture is 1/2lb of brisket which seem like a lot consider the two pieces of burnt ends were 1/4lb. I think I got the burnt end (no pun intended) of the stick on that. The coleslaw was really the only item worth writing about. They use just enough celery seed that it gives it some good flavor which goes well with the meats. The hand cut fries were...eh...as you can tell they reached in with their hands and placed it on the platter given some of them were crushed. The corn bread was moist, dense and to me felt like a muffin you would get a donut shop. Overall the customer service and the coleslaw is what gave them the 2 stars. I am very disappointed given I heard they had a good reputation. I have other local BBQ joints I will go to because this experience doesn't make me want to go out of my way to try them again. read more

Good food and a great beer menu, has a decent sized bar and regular seating, the smoked wings are excellent: Atmosphere has both quick go get your food options as well as sit down and dine. Delicious! It does not look like much from the outside, but it is very good Bar-B-Q! Excellent pulled pork, very tasty house sauce (made by them), fresh coleslaw - not too sweet, very creamy/cheesy and well seasoned mac & cheese, and very good cornbread. They even make their own ketchup! The owner answered all my questions and was very nice. My only fuss is that they do not offer a sampler plate. The Mac and cheese was not homemade the pasta was pre made and stored in water then jarred Alfredo sauce added . Didn't even taste like Mac and cheese . The chilli was beans with meat in it . The only good thing was the corn bread . The service was horrible . The set up is strange . An older woman with a short blond bob just stands there looking around instead of saying welcome . I hired this business to cater to my husband's "celebration of life.". I selected pork, chicken, ribs, cole slaw, macaroni and cheese, and baked beans. Included was cornbread. They arrived to set up at the time stated. They provided silverware, plates, napkins, their homemade bque sauces, and butter for the roles. Everyone enjoyed the food. Many stated that the cornbread was the best they eaten. They returned in the evening to pick up chafing dishes. I would recommend this business. read more

Place looks like it use to be a Wendy's. I know it was the Buddha Asian Bistro not too long ago but it definitely looks like it was a fast food joint at one point. Very surprised to find the place empty of customers on a Saturday afternoon. They even had a drive thru pick up window. I was the only one in the parking lot. Didn't look too promising at first, but I gotta say this place was actually very good. And they have made it onto my top 50 BBQ joints in New England. Brisket: Immediately took notice of a lot of rub that made it look beautiful. Not quite as dark a rub as I've become used to seeing. Meat was not as powerful as I was hoping but it had a pretty traditional brisket flavor. Fat melted real nice and a bit of flavor too. Probably the best looking smoke ring I've ever seen. A teeny weeny bit too dry but that's a preference, this is really good brisket. Hard to really judge brisket because there are too many different ways that people love it, and I've come to really like the moist but firm and super powerful black pepper seasoning and smokey beef flavor. Ribs: Naked and Rubbed like crazy, great red color. Second I bit into them and it was like "OH yes!" Almost perfect style. Flavors all over the place didn't obstruct the smoky pork too much. I may have waited a little too long but it was a little tiny tiny bit on the dry side. A little luke warm too but again I think that was my fault. If anything it's a good sign because it's more likely they never touched the microwave. Great smoke rings too, if that matters to anyone. Mac and Cheese: Cavatappi pasta (twirly) with white cheddar cheese sauce and sprinkled butter bread crumbs with some herbs. Sauce was a little too liquidy because it all sank to the bottom. But it was quite tasty. Sometimes the bread crumbs don't really work but these actually paired well. It's not baked like I want every time. I do wish that the herb element packed some kind of a taste but I couldn't really taste it. But overall it's actually pretty good mac and cheese. Beans: Hard to miss but they like to throw in big peels of onion in these beans and let them soak. Practically every baked bean I've tried has had onions in it but not like this. Almost confused it for a bay leaf. But the onion was edible enough, not rough to eat. Color was on the red side, the smell was powerful. Delicious BBQ style Baked beans. Gravy sticks nicely. Amazing brown sugar, apply, BBQ sauce flavor. I could smell it more than the ribs and everything else on the plate. Excellent baked beans Cornbread: Individual mini loaf, came wrapped up so it doesn't suck up and juices or dry out anything around it. Appreciate that. Bread itself wasn't anything special. Just that typical corn cake style. I only realized it after the fact but it came with some whipped honey butter which would have made it 100X better because honey butter is cheating. Burnt Ends: I'll admit that I haven't ventured into the Burnt Ends category hardly at all. I think I may have had them 4 times, including this time. But with a place called Burnt Ends, I figure there must be something special. And much like the brisket, there are even more different ways to make burnt ends. To me, burnt ends are pretty much the brisket that has been sitting out too long and not selling so let's cut it up and throw it in a bunch of sauce to make it taste like something else. And the ones here reflect that. This orange teriyaki asian style sauce was all over them, it was good tasting but I just can't get over that it's just old brisket ... I know it's technically not but whatever. Moist, tender, good taste, just not my thing but still good. Sauces: Alabama White: AMAZING! Very few places do this sauce right but damn these guys nailed it. Not too strong on the horseradish, plenty of spices, gritty sauce, off white orange tint, would put this on chicken everyday! Sweet House: Very jelly like, surprisingly. Not liquidy. Smells correct though, apple cider vinegar flavors, sweet, tastes like some apple in there. Actually tasted very good but that texture was very unique ... unless it's not supposed to be. Carolina Gold: Very liquidy the way I like. It's very good but there is like an overpowering tropical citrus punch in there. I would still put it on anything but brisket. Really was like a punch to the face of flavor. Each menu item came with a couple slices of sweet pickles and sweet pickled red onions, which made this place one of the better ones in New England. Very very good place read more

Brisket was very dry. Way too expensive for only mediocre food. I didn't know a salad could be bad, but it was. Bartender was very nice but the server was not friendly at all and she seemed like she was on drugs. Toilets in the bathroom do not flush well and they are often gross. I tried the place after multiple people said it wasn't worth it, I should have listened. I will not return and do not recommend. read more

This is our second visit to Burnt Ends. 1st time they were closed early because they sold out. We took that to mean it was going to be good. We were sadly disappointed. I ordered the brisket platter with beans and Mac n cheese. The beans were crunchy. The Mac n cheese was watery. The brisket was very fatty and cold and our corn bread was partially uncooked. My daughter ordered the Gheto poutine which was cold and a pulled chicken sandwich that was flavorless. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. The place was clean and inviting. We will give it one more shot hopefully all the kinks will be worked out once they have been opened a bit longer. read more

The food was such a disappointment for a BBQ place. I tried the smoked turkey sandwiches. It was NOT smoked. It was deli meat turkey. It was supposed to have BBQ ranch as a sauce I got a different sauce tasted like Chipotle mayo. You are honestly just paying for a huge pieces of bread with little meat inside. It's super hard to eat as a sandwich due to the huge pieces of bread. My boyfriend got the briskets sandwich. It had no taste to it either. This is like a BBQ McDonald's, not an actual BBQ place. My dad got a gift card for his birthday from my uncle who could not stop talking about this place in Lewiston. So my dad ordered a lb of the sliced smoked brisket and asked me to pick it up. Super over priced by the way. As soon as I got into the parking lot I could tell it definitely did not give you BBQ, it gave more of a Firehouse subs cold atmosphere vibe. Which is fine I ignored it mostly based on the "don't judge a book by it's cover" thing. So I went in to grab the food, and there was only a small group at one table and the rest of the place was empty, understandable considering it was a Tuesday afternoon. I found it odd coming out of the car and into the restaurant not smelling smoke from a BBQ smoker. Guess what? There is no smoker, just stainless steal appliances, bummer. Upon eating the food there is a strange perfectly red stripe in the meat? Looks unnatural. And is very dry, there was no natural fat in the meat and was actually falling apart at the touch of a fork a little too easily. Yikes! And there was no smoky flavor at all. Feels very processed. Not sure if we hit it on a bad day or what, but we spent a lot & tried many sides with two salads and entrees. Basically we paid for French fries and corn bread. The rest of it ended up in the trash. Was it a bad Cole slaw recipe or just cole slaw gone bad? Beans were gummy and heavy. Mac and cheese was noodles & breadcrumbs, no visible cheese & no cheese flavor. Where do I start. The Mac and Cheese wasn't cheesy and it was like box Mac and cheese. Had the brisket and it was salty not very smoked or flavor filled jus salty. Ribs were dry and were not very flavorful. The Burnt ends weren't even burnt ends they were more like stew meat covered in their house BBQ sauce which has a heavy Vinegar taste. The collard greens were not made fresh. The portion sizes are not what they say they are. it barely fed 3 people.To top it all off the food was cold when we got home and we live 5 mins away. So this was my first time having Burnt Ends food. I had high hopes as this is really the only bbq place local. However, the Mac n cheese did not taste homemade, def a cheese sauce out of a bag in there. The burnt ends and brisket were dry and overly salty. Bbq doesn't need salt added ever. The house bbq sauce was way to acidic and not palatable at all. The ribs were fall off the bone and ok but dry. My burnt ends were not burnt at all...sad face. Collard greens were good could use a bit more meat bits in there, but otherwise good. Cornbread was good. Portion sizes were adequate for price points. I am overall disappointed in my experience with this bbq. The staff was polite. Oh and the food was cold when we got home and I legit live only a few minutes away. read more

I have been here 4 or 5 times with 3 different people and all of us have loved it every time! Best BBQ I've had in a very long time. Sides are great too. The prices are a bit high for counter service but the quality and portion sizes absolutely make it worth it. Customer service has always been good too. This is NOT bbq!! I don't know what it is, but you cannot call this bbq. I think all the meat is made in an oven with some sort of chemical injected into it. If you roll up on a bbq joint and don't see smoke, just turn away. I only tried this place because a friend recommended it. We are no longer friends...J/k.The brisket actually has a metallic taste. Stopped in on a snowy Monday night for a quick bite. I ordered the tacos, got one pulled pork and one pulled chicken. Chose pickled beets as my side because I love them (probably weird to most) and because it's an out of the ordinary option. Hubby ordered the brisket sandwich and baked beans as his side. Food looked delicious and was out quickly. My tacos had a nice portion of meat and there was some fresh slaw on top with a sauce and pickled onions. Also a nice portion of pickled beets. Hub's sandwich looked similar. The beans looked amazing. He started there and I asked how they were (I was feeling a tad jealous about them) he said "they're okay." This surprised me so I took a small taste. They weren't bad, but they weren't good either. Almost like they were missing any hint of sweetness at all. I don't eat sugar as a rule, so my taste buds usually find sweet where others don't (like in bread) Made me wonder if something was left out of the batch. I dug into my tacos and they were really good. My beets were also very good. Hubs said his sandwich was great. Overall a good place to eat. I am caught between not wanting to order the beans again or definitely ordering to see if they are the same or if it was just an off day. read more
