soup and sandwich combo (turkey pesto and clam chowder)
    Isabel C.

This is a nice family-owned brunch spot in an area where there are many great places to eat. I tried to go to this place last time, but the wait was too long. This time, we managed to snag a spot at the bar seating area on a Saturday afternoon. Service was a bit slow as it was quite busy, but the cafe is really nice and clean with great French cafe brunch vibes. I ordered the clam chowder and turkey pesto sandwich combo, while my boyfriend ordered the breakfast plate. The breakfast plate was standard, nothing impressive, but I did like the cranberry toast. They used the same bread in my sandwich, which made it 10x better. The clam chowder was piping hot, very flavourful, and hearty. Dipping the sandwich into the soup was an extra special treat. My boyfriend ordered the bumble bee, espresso and orange juice, and it was a very strange drink, but somehow the acidity of the juice and espresso seemed to pair well. I would definitely return to enjoy the sandwich and soup again!

So exciting to see another brunch location along Burnaby Heights area - There is not a lot of seating available - so you will want to come early, and give yourself extra time in case there is a queue as they do not take reservations - and all guests need to be there prior to being seated. Super transit friendly , as it's along Hastings. There is also street parking available - pay attention to signs for restrictions. Table spacing does feel a little tight - so be careful when getting out of your seat - in case you hit another customer that is behind you. Rest rooms have some meme like paintings - worth a giggle. Service team was super friendly and attentive - those water glasses will basically fill themselves - The mini potatoes didn't have much taste in my opinion - however they were crisp outside and soft inside - Smoked Salmon Benny - was really good - fair amount of salmon - and the yolks ooze out upon cutting - the flavor of the sauce was just right , not over bearing. Bumble bee (Orange juice + Coffee) was interesting to me - never really thought of the combination until I was here. It's quite acidic , so it tasted better as the ice melted.

The service and brunch vibes were on point. We started off with the MIMOSA FLIGHT which was okay. It was pretty to look at, but could have been better. The Avocado Chorizo Hash and calamari were okay as well. It was a holiday, so we waited for over 45 minutes. The room was loud with chatter which made it difficult to hear each other since the place was quite small.

Small cafe located along Hastings near unt Burnaby Heights area. They completely renovated the inside giving it a French bistro look on the inside. There definitely isn't a lot of seating on the inside so make sure you come early! We were luck enough to get in with no wait at 10am but there was a line out the door until around 12pm! I tried out the chorizo hash which was super tasty and I loved the champagne hollandaise sauce on top. The eggs were cooked to perfection and were super runny on the inside. Highly recommend!

Very chic and elegant cafe. I thought the Mean Girls quote in the back was a nice touch lol. We wrote our name on the waitlist and although space is tight, we only waited about 20 minutes for a table of two on a Sat at 12pm. There were only two servers working, but they were both welcoming and friendly and checked on us several times during our meal. I loved their lavender latte, which is made with Parallel 49 coffee beans. The food portions were on the smaller side, but everything was delicious. My husband got the panini & soup combo. I could tell the clam chowder was made in house, it was so creamy and hearty. I had the avocado chorizo hash and would recommend this dish. The ingredients paired well together with the two sauces and the hashbrowns were well-seasoned. My only complaint is one of the eggs was overcooked while the other was nice and runny.

A new brunch spot on Burnaby Heights It was bright and decor was quite relaxing The clam chowder with turkey breast panini was pretty good. The soup was very creamy was homemade and for sure worth a try. The chicken and waffle was not bad. The chicken was flavorful and juicy but the waffle was cold It was not busy during a weekday lunch but the service was a bit slow. I would come back to try their other brunch items

Came here with a friend on a Saturday morning around 11/11:30am. It was nearly packed when we walked in. They don't take reservations so it's first come first serve. Definitely recommend arriving earlier. Their service was a bit slow as I could tell the waitresses were dashing around table to table. But the food was amazing!! I had the breakfast platter. The bread was delicious - There are small cranberry pieces there and I would 100% get this platter again. Chef was attentive and left my ketchup on the side.

Finally tried this place that has been on my list for a while! Cute ambiance inside the restaurant and had a good selection of drinks and brunch food!! My boyfriend got the hash bowl and I got the breakfast platter! We also shared pancakes with our friends for something sweet Overall, food was great but not as tasty as I thought it would be considering the price. Hash portion was a little small and did not have much toppings. However, glad to have tried it out and may considering coming back. They take reservations during the week but not during the weekends.

Charming coffee shop with exceptional service! The staff kindly accommodated our baby, stroller and all, by seating us in a cozy corner. We enjoyed delicious eats - the Crocque Madame and chicken and waffles were top-notch. Great quality food in a quaint atmosphere. Would definitely return if in the area. Note: seating is snug, best for small groups.

The place was busy so we were placed on the wait list. We were seated faster than the approximated wait time. The service was very friendly. The interior was very well done and overall atmosphere and energy were great. We ordered the Avocado Chorizo Hash and the Fried Chicken and Waffles. Both we're DELICIOUS! The chicken was nice and crispy and the eggs on the hash were perfectly soft poached. Will definitely be returning as a regular brunch. Highly recommend that you come by if you are in the Burnaby Heights area.

As per the menu, it was 2 eggs, sautéed red onions, red peppers, kale, green onions, sausage, bacon, cheese, hashbrowns. Reminded me of eating an omelette that fell apart. Decent quality, but honestly nothing really stuck out, especially for the price. This place isn't cheap. Maybe I'll try another dish at some point.

Gray Olive Cafeteria is a bright and simple brunch spot that serves a variety of classic, but well-executed brunch dishes and drinks. The popularity of the place showed as we waited almost an hour for a table today (granted it was a stat), with people continuing to flow in while we were dining. My boyfriend explained that they were originally a small diner, but later upgraded to more spacious seating. The waitress (who was also hostessing) was kind and apologetic for the wait. After we sat down and ordered, the food arrived very quickly. The chicken and waffles immediately caught our eye as it seemed almost one person at every table had ordered it. For $1.75, you can also opt to have your chicken made spicy, and it was very worth it! I also really liked the waffles, despite usually preferring chewier waffles. These waffles had a crispier bite, but were fragrant and delicious regardless. The crab cake benny was also a delicious umami bomb with great textures and flavours. Keep in mind, there probably isn't a lot of actual crab (mostly imitation from what I saw and tasted), but it still tasted good. One standout was the hashbrown potatoes. They were perfectly seasoned and so crispy! I also appreciated that everything wasn't too salty and perfectly seasoned for my asian taste buds. I will definitely return, but on the basis of coming for a reservation only!

Missing from the plates was butter for the toast and waffles, so I'm not sure if they don't usually provide it or they forgot it. The over-easy eggs were more over-medium and the potatoes tasted a bit off to me, but I was full anyway, so I just left them. The restaurant was a bit cold so we ate with our coats on for most of the time. Would be nice if they raised the temperature by 1-2 degrees so it's more comfortable on colder days. Service was mostly ok but our server asked us when we were still halfway through our meals if we wanted anything else and when we said we were good, she did not come back until we flagged her down for the bill. Maybe she was new, but servers should still check on customers for refills of coffee, hot water for tea, etc. Coffee is $3.25 and I did not get a refill due to the disappearing server, so it was quite pricey for one small cup. The meals were ok but for the price, I'd sooner go elsewhere for a better overall experience.

We ordered the mussels as an additional appetizer in white wine broth and also each ordered the $45 menu. We both selected the Oven Roasted Beef Striploin and for dessert there was a choice of cheesecake with caramel sauce, cinnamon cheesecake, and black forest cake. My Mom chose the black forest cake and I ordered the cinnamon cheesecake. The mussels appetizer dish was quite generous in quantity for $23 and mussels were a good size. Served with 2 slices of toast, the white wine sauce was more watery than other places but still decent. For the $45 course, the Summer Corn salad comes with artisan greens, feta, carrot, radish, tomato, red onion, orange vinaigrette. This was a refreshing light start to the meal and we both really enjoyed it. For the slow roasted beef striploin, it was served with asparagus and bell peppers, mash potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, and a red wine demi. The beef striploin was lean but not tough and was super trendy and juicy. Yorkshire pudding, which I'm usually not a fan of, was really warm and soft. Overall, a really solid dish that was generous in portion. Dessert was also solid for both the cinnamon cheesecake and black forest cake. We barely finished the dessert and both of us had leftovers of our entree to take home as we couldn't finish our food.
