I rarely write reviews, but sometimes I am just compelled to. I was near the Burnaby location as I was waiting for the Brentwood Mall to open. I saw the food being served and it looked well presented and delicious. I inquired of the waitress serving the patio. I was honest with her, told her I just had breakfast at home and just wanted to look at the menu. She still ushered me into the restaurant, sat me at the bar and got me a menu to study. A few minutes later she served me a cold glass of water and spent a few minutes with me that I really appreciated. If I was still in business I would have offered Desiree a job on the spot. She was very efficient in her work and a genuine smile never left her face. In life you sometimes meet people that are good for the soul and that sums up my experience with Desiree. We went on a weekday morning so there wasn't a lineup, but on the weekend I recommend adding your party to the waitlist online. We sat on their patio, it was very comfortable with lots of room for my baby stroller. Our server was very friendly, but he wasn't as attentive at the end when we were trying to get the bill. I tried the maple chili pork belly benny off their Summer Club menu and my husband had their Montreal smoked meat benny. OEB never disappoints! While the wait can be atrocious (and have never decreased over the years!) I appreciate the waitlist on Yelp as it really makes OEB accessible. We have been probably 10+ times over the years and have tried several dishes (usually sticking to the poutine but going rogue and ordering something different once in a blue moon) and have loved every dish. My go to favorite is the tuna poutine! I also love the short rib one however it is usually sold out. The cluck Norris sandwich is also great if you want a non breakfast item. I want to share feedback about an experience at OEB Brentwood that has stayed with me, especially because it happened on the morning of my granddaughter's birthday. We came early, right when the restaurant opened, and there was only one family seated outside. I went ahead first to secure a table for four (three adults and one child), knowing that OEB does not take reservations and that guests must be physically present to be placed on the waitlist (as per info provided on my 3 previous visits). When I approached the staff member at the entrance, I explained that my family was on their way down and would arrive within 10-15 minutes. Instead of simply seating me -- which is the standard procedure, especially with an empty restaurant -- she insisted repeatedly that "no reservations are allowed," even though I was not asking for a reservation. I was asking to be seated immediately, just as other customers who arrived after me were allowed to walk in without question. She then told me there were "no available tables," despite the restaurant being empty. The only option she offered was a high table, which was not suitable for a child. When I asked why there were no available tables when the restaurant had just opened and no one was inside, and that reservations aren't allowed, she continued to argue instead of resolving the situation. Another staff eventually called the manager, who came out without introducing himself, WITHOUT a greeting, and with an openly hostile demeanor. His first words to me were: "What is your problem." This is not an acceptable way to speak to any customer, let alone first thing in the morning - AND no greeting. I explained again that I was simply asking to be seated -- not reserving -- and that other customers had already been allowed in while I was being blocked at the door. He said that we can do book online and that it has been since the very beginning. I told him that was the information given on 3 accounts but he insisted on his narrative. He also claimed the restaurant was "full," which was visibly untrue. There was no attempt to understand, no attempt to resolve, and no basic courtesy. The interaction felt unnecessarily confrontational and dismissive from both the staff member and the manager. Their communication was inconsistent, contradictory, and lacked any sense of hospitality or professionalism. I eventually left and decided we would go elsewhere. On my way back to the condo, I met my son and told him what happened and that we will go elsewhere however, I learned that his daughter and her mother had already gone ahead and were seated without any issue -- they simply walked in and not waited to be seated. No questions, no wait, no refusal. This made the earlier treatment even more confusing and disappointing. Despite being seated with my family afterward, the atmosphere was uncomfortable. The manager recognized me but did not offer any apology or acknowledgment. The staff simply stared, and the experience felt awkward for the rest of the visit. This was meant to be a simple birthday breakfast for my granddaughter, and instead it became an unnecessarily stressful and unpleasant interaction. OEB is known for good food, but customer service is just as important. Leadership sets the tone, and the tone that morning was unwelcoming, rude, and unprofessional. I want to acknowledge that the previous manager (I forgot his name but I remember his face well) at this location was consistently hospitable, professional, and genuinely understood customer service. He set a welcoming tone, communicated clearly, and always handled situations with respect and common sense. Because of him, we visited often and always felt taken care of. Unfortunately, the experience with the new manager, Daniel, was the complete opposite. I hope this feedback is taken seriously. My friend and I ordered the Truffled Squash Eggs Benedict ($20) and French Toast Trifle ($20.50) to share and it was perfect. For the Eggs Benedict, we love the lighter butternut squash topping on the heavier croissant bottom. The truffle flavour wasn't very strong though as previously when we've had this dish. We're not vegetarian but this is a favourite of ours! The French Toast was made with brioche bread and the fresh berries & lemon curd on top went well together. I found the pistachios and torched mini pavlovas added a yummy crunch and texture to the dish! My friend also ordered an iced lavender latte but she found her drink to be overly sweet though. My other friend ordered the hot version and didn't find the same issue. We wish the drink could've been made more consistently and the server suggested options but involved paying for another espresso shot which is what my friend ended up doing. I am happy that OEB offers online queuing service, so that we could start lining up for a table at home. It took us 1.5 hours to get our seat for two on a weekend, but we waited at home, so it's fine. However, be sure to double check the branch you line up for, because we saw a group of people lined up for the wrong branch. I finally got around to trying out this place and absolutely LOVED it. I tried the one toast, you toast and requested for a poached egg to be added. It was very delicious and I'll definitely be back to try more of their menu. I came here on a Monday around 12:30pm and it was definitely a little busy but they still had some empty tables enough for more people to be seated right away. There was no line up. Great place to brunch! I have frequently visited the one in yaletown, and honestly, I have to say I prefer this location as it is clean, bright, spacious, and less crowded. I came here for a birthday brunch with friends. We had the mimosa flights and it was great! I suggest starting with the grapefruit first. Otherwise, it might be too tart. The duck club was delicious. The duck was tender, the hoisin mayonnaise gave it a light sweetness to go along with the pickled onions and the peppery arugula. It was on toasted rye bread, which was a bit too hard. If it was on a softer bun/bread, then I think it would be perfect. The gold digga was good. The Berkshire pork and black truffle goes well as you get the saltiness from the pork and the fruitiness from the truffle. You get 2 poached eggs. I asked for half arugula salad and half potatoes as the base. We would recommend these if you want something other than benny. A good place to have breakfast! Now, I have not had any savory items here so I cannot comment much on those, but I can definitely say that the French toast items here are out of this world! I had the french toast with lemon curd, pistachios, meringue, berries/fruits, and brioche and I can say that they do an amazing job with how they prepare the dish and the combination of ingredients they use. It really makes it feel like a unique experience trying something that is different to what you would normally get in french toast. I believe it provides a good addition. The wait is incredibly long at this place and can sometimes be 1-2 hours depending on the day and time, which is why I recommend you go here before/as they are opening so you can significantly reduce your wait time. It is not a cheap place to have breakfast, so do prepare to pay a little bit more than you would for a breakfast place, but the food is worth it. read more

Food is often consistent, many of their egg benedict and poutine dishes are quite delicious. Came for brunch with 3 others on Saturday and we managed to time our waitlist and arrival just right. The morning of, I told Yelp I wanted to be seated by 1 pm, and around 10:50 am I got the notification from Yelp to join the waitlist. I did, and Yelp app showed a seating time of 10:48 to 1:18. By the time we walked up around 1 pm, our table was ready and waiting for us! Couldn't have timed it any better than that. Hopefully that helps anyone else trying to decide when to add themselves to the waitlist. We were seated outside, which was perfect as it was warm and sunny out. There are a ton of food options on the brunch/lunch menu, so it took us a while to decide what we wanted. OEB is known for their breakfast poutines, but I'm not a huge fan of poutine, so I opted for Farmer John's ($20), one of the scramblettes with bacon and ham. I also got a glass of OJ for $5.50. The OJ is such a steal! It's a huge glass of organic freshly squeezed orange juice and tasted super sweet and fresh. I was happily sipping on it for the whole meal. The egg scramble was good. I appreciated that they put a lot of meat and mushrooms inside, but I thought the egg itself was a bit overcooked. The fruit on the side was amazing though. I don't know where they're sourcing their fruit but that and the OJ were honestly my favorite part of the meal. The service was great as well. There are a lot of questions the server had to ask us when we ordered, and she patiently walked us through everything. Must be hard to be a server here...
