I recently rented a home through Burr White Realty and had a terrible experience with them. I've reached out twice to them but they are not responding to me so I thought I'd go ahead a leave this review. We arrived to our rental house, after an almost 10 hour drive. To try to make the tight window to pick up the keys was stressful, but we made it. Perhaps a lockbox on the door would be beneficial to clients to alleviate that stress. This is not the complaint, though, just an observation. Upon entering the property, my son used the restroom and the toilet didn't flush. My husband tried to get it to flush but finally just turned off the water to the toilet as it wouldn't stop running. Shortly thereafter, my daughter took a shower and the shower curtain fell and hit her on the head. Again, my husband went in to try to fix it and the shower curtain repeatedly fell off, even with a slight touch. As we were very tired from our drive, and having to make up our own beds (another observation - when you are tired and stressed the last thing you want to do is put sheets on all the beds). The next morning I called and reported the problem. A few hours later the maintenance person showed up. I wasn't happy that I had to wait around on my vacation for him, but we had dogs so I felt I should be there. He was very friendly but his way of fixing the shower curtain was to put duct tape on it. It worked but was very unsightly. I mean, a new shower curtain is about $15 so why not replace it? He was unable to fix the toilet and said that a plumber would need to come. I got a text from the plumber stating that I needed to wait at the house the next day between 10-2. Ok, I'm on vacation for only a few days. I certainly didn't want to wait around the house for 4 hours! That's when the real complaint comes in. The customer service agent at Burr White actually blamed US for the broken toilet...twice! She repeatedly emailed me and said we broke the toilet handle. I told her that was not accurate and sent her a picture of the handle, which wasn't broken and she replied, "the inside handle". This set me off. I was very very angry to be blamed for a broken toilet when I paid close to $2000 for a few days. She was rude and completely unprofessional. I did NOT appreciate her sending these emails and even asked her to stop emailing me. She did in fact email me back stating the plumber could be there the next day at 8am. We got up early to be sure we were ready for the plumber but finally left the property, bringing our dogs with us at around 10:30am as there was still no plumber. I don't know when he finally showed up. I didn't not appreciate the condition of the bathroom. I paid for a 1 1/2 bath property and only had use of it for a day and a half. I didn't appreciate the way we were treated by the BW staff and will not be staying at a Burr White property again. I rent often from Air Bnb and VRBO but will be sure I find another property management company. read more

I rent a studio managed by Burr White. I found my kitchen cabinet covered in black mold and reported it to burr white on Nov. 6. They have STILL not removed the cabinet or remedied the mold in any way. Instead they spent money on a sketchy company to come do environmental test who came up with a report that has as its first line: "The area is free of visible mold." I'm attaching the picture so you can judge for yourself. No one from this testing "company" will return my calls or provide their license information. Everything I've read says black mold is incredibly dangerous. Yet, they say they're still getting quotes on repairs. It's been over a month. I've had my own mold person here who says it's throughout the kitchen there, bathroom, and windows. They clearly have no regard for my health or safety despite the expensive rent I pay every month. SKETCHY COMPANY. So disappointing. Don't rent from them on the peninsula. * Michael Dowling head of maintenance has been incredibly rude to me in this process and has seemingly gone out of his way to try to prove I'm wrong, rather than fix this. My family and friends stayed at a beach house rental (3903 Seashore Drive A) for the past 5 days. The beach house itself was pretty standard, a bit outdated, but the view was great and is conveniently located close to the supermarket down the street. Our experience would have been pretty good if it weren't for the rude-ass Karen we unfortunately encountered. I'm assuming she might be the owner upstairs or the property manager, but her attitude was extremely uncalled for. She was incredibly condescending when she spoke to us. I was honestly pretty caught off-guard. My nephew tossed his frisbee a little too hard and it flew up onto the balcony. My sister called and someone told her they would be there the next day. A couple days later and this Karen finally shows up. Here's the gist of our conversation. "I guess you guys really wanted the frisbee. You called 3 times." Me: "Yeah, someone said they were going to come by the next day." She made a comment and then asked me, "Is there a dog here???" I replied to her first comment and she rudely said, "That wasn't my question. IS THERE A DOG HERE?" Me: "Uhh, yeah. The rental didn't state anything about a pet policy." "Well, you're not allowed to have dogs here. The carpet is brand new." Me: "Oh okay. Well, we have to go back home to take care of something anyway. We can take him home right now." "IS THIS THE CHEN FAMILY?" Me: "Yeah, my sister rented this house." "The house ONLY SLEEPS SIX. THERE'S MORE THAN SIX PEOPLE HERE." Me: "Right... they're our friends who are visiting for the day." At this point I don't really remember the rest of the conversation, but that was the important part it anyway. She was just down-right rude and disrespectful. She was lucky my sister was busy because she would never let someone talk to us that way. She would've been put in her place. I'm not a pushover myself, but that was pretty much the first Karen encounter I've ever experienced. The other really frustrating part of this trip? Parking. Good luck having guests over. The parking situation is a down-right joke. I spent 40/45 minutes circling the entire area for parking and had to settle for parking in front of the garage. My friends spent 20 minutes searching as well. Fortunately he was able to find parking 10 minutes away. I seriously contemplated sleeping at home and taking an Uber to the beach house. While I was searching for rentals, I found a lot of places that were the same cost, or slightly cheaper/more expensive, but the homes were more up-to-date and accommodating. My family looks forward to renting next year, but it's definitely not going to be through Burr White. read more

Burr White is at the top echelon, for not only service but it just seems there rentals are better also. Terrible customer service and lots of issues with the home. We arrived and the home was not cleaned well indoors. Outdoors was not cleaned as well in who knows how long. We booked the home because it had a nice outdoor patio and outdoor seating but that was all filthy and covered in webs and cushions were all dirty. Wifi did not work. No garage remote. Had to make multiple calls to the main office to come get it fixed. Water heater makes a banging noise and is indoors which made it tough to fall asleep for all of us including the baby because the home was falling apart. & on top of it all, they have a "damage waiver fee" which most would assume is the same as a security deposit except it is non refundable to our surprise. Will not book from here again and filed a claim with my bank. read more

I rented a beach house in Newport for four days from Burr White. I booked the day before my trip so I couldn't book online and had to call in for the reservation. Summer was very helpful and got everything handled in a professional manner. I was enjoying my stay so much that I wanted to add an additional day & Summer quickly got a new contract emailed to me. The beach house was nicely updated, super clean and in a fantastic location where I could walk or bike to everything I needed. The garage remote was missing & Summer sent someone out in a timely manner. He was also helpful in showing me how all the TV remotes worked. They have a good variety of rentals and price points to fit a range of budgets. Renting a beach house, even for a few days, is a wonderful experience for singles, couples and definitely if you have kids. Nothing like having the sand/waves a few steps from your "house"! Cons: Their fee's ( nonrefundable damage waiver, cleaning/linen, processing) were too high for a one bedroom/one bath rental. I've rented from many vacation rental companies and none have charged that much. Those high fees are the only thing that would discourage me from renting from them again. read more

Thank you Burr White Realty for making my stay in Newport Beach an excellent one. I signed up for a nine-month rental along Seashore Drive with fellow UCI student Joe B. The neighborhood was exactly what you'd expect from Newport Beach. The area was rather nice, within walking distance from a tennis court, convenience stores, a major grocery store, and of course the beach! I could literally walk 30ft from my front door and hit the sand. Any UCI students will be glad to know that they have quite a few rentals within walking distance of the UCI shuttle as well. Everyone at the office was pretty competent and answered any questions I had. When Joe decided to move on campus, Burr White staff guided me through the process of adding another individual to the lease and removing Joe. Furthermore, if there was any issue with the house such as repairs or whatever, I could just visit their website and make a maintenance request. They were pretty prompt. There were a couple issues. Some of the kitchen appliances were outdated as well as the washing machine. Sometimes it would take a couple cycles to make sure my clothes were dry. I am going to assume that every house is different and this may not be an issue with your rental. Additionally, I did have a bit of a fiasco with the heater and water heater. One day, my roommate informed me that we no-longer had hot water. I went outside and noticed the city had placed a "hazardous condition" tag on our gas meter. I then notified Burr White of the situation and submitted a picture of the tag. Within one hour, one of their employees arrived at my apartment to evaluate the situation and make repairs. He fixed the pipes but we still had to go without hot water/heater as the heater/water heater were both made in the 1970s and needed replacing. Burr white then contacted the owner and made arrangements to replace the heating unit and water heater. Later on that day, someone from Burr White dropped by to lend us some electric heaters which was nice. I miss my old apartment and would probably contact Burr White again if I decided to move back to Newport Beach. TL;DR Nice area and good service but maybe inquire about appliances and condition of water heater. read more

We stayed here because we could bring our two small dogs and stay a month, which we have always wanted to do. It was wonderful! Newport Pier is one block away with lots of activities and eats. Pavilions is close by. The donut shop on the boardwalk is still as good as ever. The street tacos at Chihuahuas is great. We also liked TK Burgers and the greek place two doors down. The best pizza is at Gina's Pizza. My husband rode his bike everyday up and down the boardwalk, Balboa Island, and PCH. The dogs got to go on the beach before 10am and after 4:30pm everyday. The house was remodeled less than a year ago. Everything is still in tip top shape. We had a problem with the propane tank being empty and the vertical blinds not working in one room. They were out that day and fixed it all. Thank you so much! We plan to do it again! read more

Yearly renters. Terrible communication, from the minute we paid our $100 each application fees. Told us we had multiple amenities but didn't tell us the additional charges. Renting a 2 bed, 2 bath only supplied one parking spot, one building key ($100 for another building key) had elevator key but it was broken for the first 4 days including when we were moving in to the 3rd floor so had to use one building key to go back and forth 4 floors from garage. When we tried to get a hold of them to get the authorization for our second car parking that we have to pay for, it took a week and only because I was on top of it from day one and the HOA lady helped us. We did a walk through and had issues with the new dishwasher not working and one of the closet doors being broken and it's been a week with no response on when they will fix it. Multiple other issues but those are really unacceptable. Thank goodness the HOA is great! read more

The property management company was not a very responsive management company, especially when it came to COVID-19 and the panic that my family and I were dealing with. During the COVID-19 Pandemic Newport Rentals refused to reimburse us on the unused time of our rental, despite the governor's stay at home orders and the rental could not be used during this time. I would not recommend using Newport Rentals for renting a long term property in Newport Beach. I was extremely unsatisfied with my experience, and will not use them again. read more

Wow....Just got off the phone with a Burr White Realty representative who assumed the following things and made me feel like less of a human being by doing so. THANKS! There were not a set of parents with children traveling with us. Therefore in her words we seemed like a "party group." I asked what her definition of a family unit was since she clearly stated it had to be a mother father and children. (There is family traveling with us and part of the surprise was to have my significant others mother travel in to visit.) We were only planning on staying two nights. I own a small business and my significant other works in the medical field. Neither of us are afforded that ability to take entire weeks at a time off for vacation but I still wanted her birthday to be special and relaxing. (Apparently if you can't afford LONG vacations you're a lower class citizen who only parties and creates a ruckus!) The majority...key word...not entire group is between the ages of 25-35. Therefore again in her words we were there to party and would have such belligerent wild behavior that she couldn't help me unless I was willing to put a three thousand dollar damage deposit down at which point she scoffed when I asked where this number came from. (Not only was she assuming that we most likely could not afford this random damage deposit but she had assessed all the individuals in our group as irresponsible loud individuals without ever meeting us!) This representative did get loud, she made multiple inferences about the type of person I was and those I associated with. She made me feel horrible for not having a conventional family or having one traveling with us. She referred to me as immature for questioning her. Ultimately she assumed that my significant other, our family, and friends are not the type of people that can enjoy, afford, or take part in a weekend on the Balboa Peninsula. If these are the professionals they hire I don't would never recommend them and from the other comments and ratings I see others feel the same. I just want to start by saying this this the first and only negative review I have ever written. We rented a beachfront property with Burrwhite in the summer over the holiday week. When I called to make the reservation I was directed to an "afterhours" rep who said she could still take my reservation. The online listing was for a tri-level house. The bottom or first level had already been rented and the information online stated the second level B was available and the 3rd level C was available for an additional cost. We have 14 people in our immediate family and decieded to go with the additional cost of the 3rd level to accommate everyone. When we arrived at the rental, the 3rd level was being worked on by the private owner of the home. He was extremely nice but told us that Burrwhite had not informed him anyone had rented the third level C or made payment. We immediate called the office and the woman there was so rude and unhelpful she basically said it was our own fault we booked with the afterhours representation and that she would only speak to us in person and we had to come back down to the office. We got the manager I believe, Craig, on the phone. He said that they actually RECORD all afterhours conversations and he went back to listen to ours. In the recording he said WE DID in fact clearly request the third top level C and said we would like to pay additional for this level. However, since it was written exactly like that in the contract there was nothing he could do about it. We paid nearly $8,000 dollars for a week over the holiday for these two levels and ther was nothing he could do!? He even asked why we needed the third level. Craig I know you will read and respond to this, you were pleasant enough on the phone but after a family paying that much money and not getting what they paid for, a question like "why do you even want the third level on a beach front property?" is a little absurd. Within the hour the website had been completely deleted and re-written to state "*********THIRD LEVEL IS NEVER RENTED OUT TO CUSTOMERS" I realize thousands more people will still rent from Burrwhite reality, the book of business they own is expansive and witrh beautiful beachfront properties in Newport Beach, why wouldn't you rent from them. My advice is to CAREFULLY read the contract, look for things like: 1. Gargae included/not included 2. AC/ NO AC 3. Third level included, not inlcuded I am sorry Craig, I understand what a bad review can do to a business and how people read it. I honestly feel our family was so completely scammed with this rental and scammed out of A LOT of money. Even if maybe the attitude of your employees were a little different it may have changed the situation. I hope in the future you really look to make some changes to become a better company. read more

First, allow me to perfectly clear in saying that I am not, nor was I at the time I rented from Burr-White, some pampered Newport college brat whose parents paid my bills. I was 33 when I rented from these slime balls. Why do I call Burr-White slime balls, in particular Traighe Concannon and Stacy (can't remember her last name)? Because they knowingly rented me a place that was in pre-foreclosure. Within weeks of moving in, I was getting the owner's foreclosure notices in my mail. Not to mention, I work from home, so when the idiot owner decided to finally sell the place, I was constantly disturbed by middle of the day showings. Burr-White never told me about this before I moved in. Had they done that, I never would have leased the place. Additionally, BW's landscapers damaged my car, I even caught them doing it, and BW refused to compensate me. I hope everyone reads this because this company should be put out of business. If you're a landlord that uses BW to manage your properties, you're evil. If you're a prospective tenant that has read and still decides to rent a BW property, you're a moron. read more

I was very excited going into the past week with my Burr White Realty beach house rental. Unfortunately, I had a terrible experience with this company. After my portion of the house received several unfounded complaints from the people sharing the front of the house. Complaints such as noise and too many people at the house. Mind you, we had 3 people staying at this house that slept up to 6 according to the house listing. Through each complaint I asked the Burr White renal rep to have someone come to the house and determine for themselves if my group was being too noisy or at all inconsiderate to our neighbors. Each Burr White rep that came out to inspect the situation, concluded that we were in fact not being too loud and well within our rights as rental tenants. Their exact phrase was "I'm not sure even why I'm here, you are very clearly not being too loud". However, that did not stop nearly everyone at the office from calling me incessantly to inform me of these ridiculous complaints. The company seemed more concerned with passing on these ridiculous complaints than protecting me and my group in the house. Unfortunately for me, the people sharing the front of the house were miserable drunk people who found ridiculous reasons to lodge "complaints" about my group. One complaint was that they heard people "talking on the street early in the morning". Newsflash Burr White, its a public street, people are allowed to speak, and chances are it was a neighbor walking by, instead of one of the people from my group. I feel that Burr White handled this situation very poorly, instead of instructing the drunk neighbors to keep their complaints to themselves, or very gracefully explaining that the situation is under control (as good customer service people do) they felt the need to yell at me. Not only did I receive multiple calls each day from my neighbors who seemed so needlessly fixated on me and my group, but each call was from a different person who seemed to have failed to communicate with their own coworkers whatsoever. When I told one of the people who works for Burr White (Mike I believe his name was) that I had fielded calls all morning with noise complaints and we weren't even at the property when we were receiving these so called "noise complaints", that I was very disappointed with their company, and that I would not be using their services in the future, he had the nerve to tell me I was threatening him; and that he could come to the property and evict me at any moment. Which I then encouraged him to do. As he should realize that I am a paying customer who treated their property with respect. Of course he did not make the trip to visit the property and inspect the situation at all. Which again, was another disappointment. The damage was done, I paid for hotel rooms for all the guests at the beach house just so we could be free of such a miserable situation. I saw to it that we left the property in better condition than when we found it. At no time during my stay was my group loud, or inconsiderate. We rented the house for work purposes, not as a party house. Which was constantly communicated to each and every representative of this company. I have never been treated with such disrespect from a service industry professional. I would caution anyone before utilizing this rental service in the future. I am a kind well spoken woman, I have NEVER been accused of threatening anyone in my life. I am simply appalled that anyone would even venture to approach a paying tenant in such an uncivilized manner. In the future, I will pay more for a better home, with a more respectable company. read more

Maybe all of the Newport Beach rental agencies are the same but... 1. Customer service-Terrible. Once you have signed for a year good luck in getting anything fixed or maintenance even if it is outlined in the contract. This usually takes months for someone to actually take a look.If you call the office be prepared to have your call put to voicemail and possibly a call back in a few weeks. Signing the contract. After reviewing the contract I had several red-lines and changes that needed to me made on the contract that were agreed upon. Surprisingly when we agreed upon a time to sign the amended contract, it had not been changed at all and the principals in the office decided not to show up. This should have been a huge red-flag so we walked out and only when they didn't get the check and we stated we were going to look at other properties did they promptly call us back. Finally when some construction was done to bring items up to code the owners would show up randomly without notice and construction crews at 6 am all days of the week in the summer... But they were very nice and accommodating trying to get us to stay in the property when we put in our 30 day notice to vacate after the contract was up. read more

A customer service disaster, and a real disappointment. I made a Newport Beach rental booking through Burr White, and received the rental contract marked "paid," and saw the credit card charge. So far so good. On the day of checkin, I called around 8pm to find the key. An answering service eventually rounded up a Burr White employee (George?), who had no record of our reservation. I confirmed the check-in date and location, and he said he would check and call back. Over the next two hours - with a carful of crying kids in the back seat - I called FIVE times. Each time was the same story: answering service finds employee, who says he can't find reservation, can't reach anyone to help, but will keep trying. Tired of waiting, I took a flashlight and poked around the realty office, hoping to find a night drop box, or envelope with key. No luck. While poking around, I noticed a missed cell phone call. Bingo! I hit redial, to be greeted with "this number is blocked from receiving incoming calls." Wow. This is some ninja level evasion. By 10:30 - with food and morale running low, we headed to the Red Roof Inn. On the way, someone from Burr White called - incredibly irritated - as if somehow we had done something wrong: BURR: Aaron. Me: Yes? BURR: Where are you. Me: I just left the rental property, on my way to a hotel. I give up. You win. BURR: Go to the real estate office. Me: I just came from there. It's closed. BURR: Go to the real estate office. Me: Is there a key there? BURR: Go to the real estate office. Me: Ok, will someone be there to meet me? BURR: Go to the real estate office. Me: Wait, why are you being so difficult? What do you want me to do over there? Stand around and wait for something? BURR: There's a key inside a hidden, locked safe. Me: How am I supposed to get inside this locked safe? BURR: [combo] Me: Ok...how can I reach you if I have trouble? BURR: Call the answering service back. [click] Sure enough, I found the safe with an envelope in it with my name on it. Which means that they in fact DID have my reservation. Whoever left for the day simply didn't do their job. At no time did Burr White offer any sort of apology, or make even the smallest attempt to help. These guys are incredibly rude, and have zero customer service skill. In the event that a Burr White property owner reads this - or any other owners that use Burr White - please understand that if I see a rental that has Burr White as the agent I will skip right past it. They're costing you real dollars. And for potential customers of Burr White...don't say you weren't warned. read more

Annual beach house time and we find this very popular property management company in the beach cities. After browsing the Internet of thousands of pictures we decided to secure one of the beach properties listed. Not cheap and wanting a beach front space, we asked about a listing, and we're excited. We paid the scheduled payments and arrived to some disappointments. We were told it was a free standing house that listed via the web with air conditioning and a garage. Unfortunately we couldnt park in the driveway cause they rent to college kids down stairs, no lightbulbs for laundry in the garage, not enough parking or the garage that was promised. When I complained I got the reply " what do you want me to do?" I probably won't rent from this company again... read more

Definitely not what we signed up for. We stayed at 104 Walnut in Newport. Great location for the beach but that's about all it's got going for it. Otherwise, not that close to great restaurants or shops. As for the property itself, the upstairs and downstairs are separated by an outside staircase so the two aren't even connected (the downstairs room is attached to the garage). When we arrived the beds weren't even made (we were given bundles of sheets to make it ourselves). It just never felt all that cozy. Just not that great of quality in general, but I heard they're renovating soon. The office also called us (for an unrelated reason) and we expressed our frustration with the value of what we paid for, and the office representative seemed less than caring. If you have a home or condo to rent in the Newport area you will not find a better management company. They are very professional and take care of all details for both summer and winter rentals. I find it humorous to read some of the bad reviews from disgruntled student and summer renters. The rules are very explicit about late night noise and parties. Burr White abides by the city laws. These people obviously didn't and want to blame someone. Go home and cry to mommy and daddy. read more

303 35th st. Newport Beach, CA. Bottom duplex rental w/ 3 queen bedrooms & 2 baths. Pros: The overall stay was good. Three couples fit comfortably. Great location near the grocery store and beach. The patio and common area were spacious, connected to an updated kitchen, fully stocked with dinnerware and cooking utinsels. Nice Neighbors. Cons: No air conditioning so the two smaller rooms were pretty hot at night. There was a lot of sand on the ground so if you walked barefoot, your feet turned black. The water in the shower of the master bedroom got cooler if the other shower was running at the same time. A huge downside was that we missed our appointment time to pick up the keys at the office on a Sunday, which was by appointment only. When we got to the office, no one was there and it took over an hour to get a hold of someone who could tell us where the keys were. A call to let us know someone was leaving the office would have been nice or a note on the door telling us where the keys were would have been great too. The secretary that answered the "emergency" line didn't seem to have many answers except "let me forward your message" and someone will call you back. No one ever called back, but when we did get a hold of someone he was very nice and it turned out the keys were left in a package on the side of the building. More complicated a process than checking into a hotel. But it was fun having all six of us together 24/7. I would do it again knowing now how it all works. Cleaning and deposit fees were non-refundable. 2 night minimum stay. Parking is non-existent. The "two car garage" was claimed by a huge SUV, probably from the renter upstairs. Descent price for the place and considerably lower than any house on the water, yet only a few blocks away. read more

Company is okay. Most of the staff is willing to help you but the owner is the one thing that would make me never want to rent again from this company. I feel bad giving a one star but the extremely condescending and rude owner should not be able to act the way he does. Had an issue do to some unruly people invited to my house by my roommates when I was out of town. While trying to explain that I was willing to take the blame and apologize like an adult I was cussed out, yelled at and called a liar to my face by a man who is near to 40 years older than me. Regardless of the situation the issue should never be resolved the way it was handled here. UPDATE Such an unprofessional response. Not only did I mention that I was willing to take the blame, never did I say me being out of town make my obligation to the lease invalid. If you read the response properly you would understand that. I was willing AND DID take full responsibility for those over at my house. What is most unprofessional is the fact you just lied to all the yelpers. I was cussed at, threatened, and threatened to be sued BY THE OWNER of the company to my face. It was not a neighbor. Fact of the matter is exactly what my first post said. Company is okay. Unprofessional owner and now unprofessional yelp responses. I wish you all the best and hope that you can live life without more lies and with more happiness. read more

This business, especially George, is fantastic!! They were really there for my friend tonight when he locked himself out of his place by accident and were responsive in an extremely timely manner. The reason we were extremely impressed today was because they were willing to respond during off hours on a holiday to help out. My friend was locked out with just the laundry room keys and a chapstick, not even a phone, and was able to get in contact with them easily using the emergency line on his upstairs neighbor's phone. They came immediately and allowed him to use the company keys to get into the place and only asked for a good Yelp review as payment, which we thought was more than generous!
