On a Sunday morning during my stay at Flying Flags in Buellton, I woke up craving some good menudo. With four Mexican restaurants surrounding the resort, I had a few options to choose from. After looking through photos and reviews, I decided to give Burrito Lalo a try. It was only about 1.4 miles away, right off McMurray. I ordered the menudo to-go and decided to go without "pata" (pig's feet), along with a bottled Coke. My order was ready in about 5 minutes, which was impressive. The young lady who helped me was friendly and packed everything nicely in a cardboard box, including all the fixings and a bag of chips. I have to admit, the menudo was very good! The broth tasted clean, flavorful, and delicious. My only reason for giving it 4 stars is that I would have preferred a little more hominy to balance everything out. There were also plenty of large chunks of tripe. Depending on how you like your menudo, that could be a positive or negative. Personally, I prefer my tripe cut into smaller pieces. Overall, I really enjoyed it and would definitely recommend Burrito Lalo to anyone looking for a good bowl of menudo in Buellton. My only advice is to make sure you tell them exactly how you like your menudo, especially the size and amount of tripe and hominy. That part was my mistake for not asking. Either way, the menudo was delicious, and I would definitely give Burrito Lalo another try the next time I'm in the area! read more

I was in the area for work a couple days looking for a new place, came across Burritos Lalo. Great little spot, family owned Mexican food place. Love these kinds of spots. The staff was really nice, lots of people coming in to get food to go, so a popular spot. I really liked their salsa, not spicy, which I normally like it spicy, but this was just packed full of flavor and could have just ate that with a ton of chips. They do have a little spicier option, which I got to put on my fajitas. They do give you chips and salsa with your order, so I did eat quite a bit of it, soo good! I would come back just for the chips and salsa. The food was good, I got the beef fajitas. They were tasty and the portions were generous. Lots of beef and veggies. The rice and beans were ok, I have had better, but not bad, just had better. The place is not large, but they do have a number of seats inside, they also have a little patio outside as well as a large picnic area, which was a pretty cool surprise to find. There was only one server working the time I was there, but the service was quick and attentive. There are just a few tables inside but quite a few more outside. Was searching for Mexican on a vacation trip. We went with burritos Lala because the pics looked good and their prices were reasonable. I was SO disappointed. My taco salad came with a portion of crispy shell but when they put everything in there the juices made the tortilla soggy. It did not even resemble a taco salad. I understand the foods never gonna be as hot or as good when you have it delivered, but the people who are preparing it should box it in a way that doesn't ruin it. They should've drained the juices off of everything before they put them in the taco salad shell. On top of that the ground beef has no flavor at all. There was way too much lettuce and way too much wetness for this to ever be a great taco salad. Just pass on this unless you're eating in the restaurant. My best friend got nachos. The meat she had on there was also chewy she said. The cheese had no flavor and there was nothing remarkable about those nachos. I was left hungry and extremely disappointed. I searched Yelp for a casual restaurant that had a delivery option and came across Burritos Lalo. They were able to accommodate a variety of trays for delivery and the quality of prepared food trays met our expectations. If I can point out any improvements, just double check all items delivered. We had one missing tray but the Lalo team was quick to correct the error and offered a few options to make it right. Loved this hidden gem! We stayed in Solvang and wanted something other than pastries for breakfast. Nothing better than some fresh, authentic Mexican food! Very casual, hole-in-the-wall like joint. We sat on the patio (plenty of seating) with our dogs and the staff were super friendly. Greeted us with water and complimentary chips. Their house salsa and special (spicy) salsa were extremely good. We even bought some to go before we left! Their pozole was 10/10 and we have many to compare it to! The people who work here are nice. The food was ready on time when we arrived for pick up. They have limited seating and you are better off getting take out. Parking on the street is limited. There is a lot nearby, but you need to walk accross the street. It is a little far. The store front was a little hard to spot--use your map app. The food was just ok. It was not bad, but other places make better Mexican food than they do. We like some of the other Mexican restaurants in the area better, but these guys are a better option than Taco Bell for takeout. We recently placed a to-go order from Burrito Lalo and it was delicious! They have the regular staples people look for with Mexican food and lots of flavor. My husband loved their Carne Asada Plate and I opted for the chicken taco salad. Both were really good and the chips and salsa on the side were tasty as well. We weren't limited on how much salsa we could take to go, which I appreciated. Their spicy salsa is excellent. It's an easy to find location at the end of a strip mall. Buellton. Ambiance was mediocre. Service was enjoyable. The menu was hard to read for us. The colors and lighting had us straning to to get the glare down to make it readable. Food, nothing we ate would bring us back. Fish taco lacked the interest that some pico de gallo and seasoned crema would have solved. Our combination plate had rice and beans which was not indicated on the menu and which I didn't want. The picture didn't indicate it came with them. I wanted only the two enchiladas. I ordered the carnitas enchladas in that it would be the first time to try some. I was served roast pork that was in long strands. The strands made it impossible to enjoy a fork full of enchilada as the meat refused to be cut and so the tortilla fell into pieces and couldn'd be enjoyed. Carnitas? Not a hint. Beans were typical. Great location if you are driving on the 101. Close to gas stations and stores making it an easy multi stop location. Now on the food! Ordered a chorizo breakfast burrito and a side of chips and salsa to go. The egg, chorizo, hash brown mixture was perfectly proportioned unlike some places that overdo one of the ingredients. All of it was wrapped in a super soft tortilla. Don't forget to top it off with their amazing salsa for a extra kick. This salsa has to be my favorite and even grabbed a larger tub to go. The taco was nice and crispy, but the beef was fairly avg nothing spectacular. The cheese enchilada was soft and cheesy goodness. Rice and beans were so good too. For parents, this dish would be great bc you won't have to worry about your baby eating anything spicy. The food is seasoned, but not overly salt. The baby loved it! chicken flautas: crispy and good. The chicken had a similar texture to the crispy beef tacos, but tasted way better. It came with sour cream and guacamole. 2 tacos- al pastor was average and good. The carne asada was so delicious. Tiny pieces of asada covered in onions, cilantro and guac. The baby definitely loved and the pieces were perfectly cut for him to chew. All in all, would come back for the carne asada. This was the only place that we found to be open on new year day. It was packed full of customers. Only one cook and one cashier/waitress. We waited for a long time and we were missing a couple of things on our order, but they fixed that and gave us our complete order. We were not able to get refills or anything once our orders came out because of how busy it was. Yet the waitress/ cashier was very nice. The food was great, many options in the menu. Ambiance was too busy with lots of people standing around inside, so we took our meals to an outside table once we received our orders. Ok, so my wife and I stumbled on this lil gem while on a road trip. Just WoW! So we ordered the Fried Chicken Tacos and Burrito Ranchero. First, the house salsa was Rockin... we couldn't get enough of it. We had to ask for more. Tacos were flavorful and Crispy. The Burrito had so many layers of flavor and was amazing. Most of all it was awesome to see this family owned little business very busy and no doubt a hit is this community. Indoor and outdoor seating. When nearby, this place is a must try! They have a nice shaded seating area and a menu board outside so you don't have to stand inside if there are people. The restroom is open to customers. Staff was polite and our food came out quickly. I got the carnitas burrito and my boyfriend got the ultimate burrito with chicken. My burrito was chock full of meat and very delicious. The food here is OUTSTANDING! It's a tiny little place with very limited seating, that's true, so we are careful to come when it's not packed so we'd have to sit outside or in our car. The servers are excellent and pleasant, the prices are VERY fair for what you get, and we go here at least 3-4 times per week for lunch or dinner. Decided to check this place out. The inside looked like a typical taco shop down in San Diego so that was promising. Ordered the Burrito Ranchero and three fried shredded beef tacos. The Burrito Ranchero was good. I wish there was more pork. It was loaded with beans and rice. If you like having a lot of beans and rice in your burrito, this is the burrito for you. The fried shredded beef tacos is a pass. The taco shell was almost burnt and had very little filling in the taco. Their hot sauces were flavorful. To me, having flavorful mild and spicy hot sauces is as important as having good food. I would buy a bottle of their green, mild red and spicy hot sauces if I could.
