The food was good but I only went for lunch with my granddaughter and it was 95 dollars for two plates ,and a greasy appetizer , 1 tamale and water for both to drink. I think this owner thinks they are special. I am a disabled veteran and dont appreciate greedy people not raised in our country and then take 5 times what the food is worth. Was looking for a good lunch while in town recently on business, and came across the best little taco place I've been to in a while, true street style tacos. I was really wanting non fast food, but something easy and inexpensive. This is the spot. This little taco house looks to be family run? The staff, the lady running the front of the house, and gentlenman in the kitchen. We were greeted and told to sit where ever we liked. Being it was Taco Tuesday, thats how we ran. I am kind of a carnitas snob and tend to judge other taco eateries by the quality of theirs, when offered. This is true to style, and the flavor of the tacos excellent with just enough "greasiness" to them to make them finger licking good. Double corn shells, stuffed nicely with rich carnitas, onions, cilantro and tomato. Absolutely horrible food. The menudo was not edible, it tasted like they over cooked it and didn't clean the meat before hand, the aguachile was soggy and could tell the shrimp wasn't fresh. I have tried giving this place an opportunity to do better, but they continue to disappoint. I've ordered a bean and cheese burrito 3 times now and each time I pay to add rice. THEY NEVER ADD THE RICE. Dear restaurant: please pay attention to your orders. Shrimp taco "especial" missing sauce, cheese and lettuce despite menu stating it has that in it. Simple request of grilled shrimp instead of breaded caused this. Pico is not fresh. Also ordered kids quesadillas that were supposed to come with rice, didn't get the rice. Basically spend $40 and hope I don't get food poisoning. Also didn't ask for salsa (wanted it but there was a charge so I declined) salsa is very mild and watery like it was made with canned tomatoes and meant for chips vs the kind you might expect with tacos or even a quesadilla. I have always loved going here to eat but today I ordered 1 Chicken and 1 Beef Fajitas for takeout. The price for EACH was $18.50 and I said to myself it's ok cause the price of food has gone up, BUT when you open up the box and take a look, the first thing that comes to mind other than WTF is "this was yesterday dinner that they threw pan to reheated."It not only looked horrible it also didn't taste all that good! Always good service and never had a bad meal here. The waitress kept the chips and salsa coming and you cannot go wrong. With their real (tequila) margaritas and a bucket of Coronita beers if you're walking. We were almost scared off by the bad reviews by some entitled individuals who think Mexican food starts and ends with nachos, but I am so glad that we took a chance. We ordered a michelada and a margarita and were very impressed by the variety of imported Mexican beers available. We shared the fried red snapper, which came with a generous serving of rice and beans, and a delicious cup of tortilla soup. The broth was so flavorful! The fish itself was a sight to behold, and was served with homemade tortillas, cilantro and onions, and a hot sauce that I would buy in a bottle if I could. It was cooked perfectly, with crispy skin on the outside and tender meat. Our server was friendly and accommodating, even setting up a propane heater for us. This is your typical neighborhood casual Mexican restaurant. Menu is large with soups, appetizers, choose 2 or 3 combo dinners or you can order a la carte tacos, gorditas/sopes, tortas, etc. Chips and salsa were fine. Salsa is sweet and garlicy stewed tomatoes. To start, we had shrimp ceviche which was nice and refreshing. My bf and I both had the 2-combo meals which come with refried beans and rice. I had a chile relleno and a fish taco and he had a tamal and something else. The chile relleno was good, not over fried and mildly spicy. The fish taco was chunks of greasy "grilled" fish with a bit of onion and tomato thrown on 2 tortillas. No lettuce, no sauce, nothing. Skip that one. As for the sides, the beans are really tasty you'll want to eat them all, but stop yourself! Rice is regular. Overall the food was fine, service was laid back. If someone asked me I'd go again, but I wouldn't pick it if I had another choice. read more

I have been here many times over the years, but most recently visited on Mother's Day weekend. It was a very busy evening, all the tables were full. Service was slow, but as always, the food was amazing. We waited about 15 minutes before we received our water and another 10-15 before our chips and salsa arrived and I had to get up to ask for more water. I did not mind because I had never been there when it was so busy, before. They may have been overwhelmed. What did make me sad was that they did not have the ingredients to make my favorite margarita, and one of their "claims to fame" are their margarita selections. When our food came, however, we were extremely pleased. I always love the food. Husband got the signature burrito and tried the nopales (cactus) and it's all he can talk about weeks later. Went into this restaurant and placed a to go order last night, which turned out to be nothing short of a huge waste of time and money. I had ordered Huevos Rancheros, the combo platter with 3 chicken enchiladas, a half a dozen tamales, a "large" side of rice and beans, and burrito ordered wet. No one was happy or pleased with any of their meals. Everyone had to add salt, pepper, salsa, & cilantro. Just basically anything we could find in the fridge to try and help make it better. But unfortunately nothing worked. The tamales are literally frozen, heated in a microwave prior to being packaged up to go (was standing at the register just having to watch the cook do this) and sadly that's exactly how they looked and tasted. I would have been SO MUCH BETTER OFF just going to the grocery store and picking up things from the frozen section and deli for everyone at home. I couldn't be more disappointed. The Huevos Rancheros was my dish, and I had asked several times for the eggs to be OE, even clarified with the server that I really like them very soft on the yolks and barely cooked except the whites. She assured me that they would be prepared last to ensure they would still be OE (or close to it) by the time I arrived home. I even asked if it was possible to have them bagged separately so they wouldn't retain the heat from the other dishes. But when I finally arrived home, the cook had poured the warm sauce including the bell peppers, onions and so forth all over the top of the eggs obviously then just steaming them so the eggs were OH (at least) upon finally being able to eat. To be honest, if McDonald's had a Mexican menu it would have been better. Everything was lukewarm at best and had to be reheated, and altered to try and help the dishes be edible. There goes 70 something dollars. Not one dish was enjoyed or fully eaten. Everyone basically had 3-4 bites of everything before saying screw it and tossing it. read more

Considering this is a hole in the wall with fabulous authentic Mexican food, and that is exactly what I want from Mexican restaurant I have to give this place five stars. Definitely. Yes its a little out of the way but worth it. This place is owned and operated by people who know how to put a plate together with complimentary flavors. I urge you to try any of the grilled fish dishes. I had Filet de Veracruzana. They also have a half-dozen soups on any day, including sopa de pollo, de res, albondigas y tortilla pollo. Salsas were freshly made. There were six in my party, we all had something different and delicious. Rice was a little on the plain side but I don't eat rice, I substituted steamed veggies. Steamed vegetables were FRESH, something that's frozen at many restaurants. Decor is hole in the wall, but the place is CLEAN. La Michoacana has a meat market/Grocery in the same small shopping center, so that's how they probably get all the fresh ingredients. Definitely return again. read more

I was so disappointed in this place. The man enjoyed his catfish soup despite the spines, but it was dark, not very tasty, and not worth returning to me. This business is registered at the same location under many different names. Also, we both speak and understand Spanish. I felt a bit patronized that they didn't seem to understand that they don't have to speak English to us. read more

My husband and I have tried a lot of Mexican restaurants since we moved to the central coast, but we always come back La Michoacana because the food is just so great! This place is truly a hidden gem in Lompoc if you are looking for authentic Mexican food. I usually order a chili relleno and a beef enchilada. The chili relleno is the best I've had in the area. At other restaurants they end up soggy and sad, but at La Michoacana they are perfect! The enchiladas are also amazing. My husband's go to is the chicken mole. He has yet to find a mole that tops this one! The atmosphere inside the restaurant is fine. Nothing fancy but certainly not dumpy. Much better than the folding tables and chairs and tables you see at a lot of Mexican places in the area. Service has always been pleasant but seems to be consistently slow. We don't mind the wait though... This food is totally worth it! La Michoacana is in kind of a tucked back location off the main drag, and I feel like it often gets overlooked. This was my first and definitely last experience here (no recomiendo este restaurante). The first thing I noted was that the menu was really pricey - and now having finished, I can definitely say it wasn't worth it. I had to ask literally five times for limes. I also waited several times for water. And when my food finally came, I waited another five or ten minutes for the side of salsa and sour cream I asked for (that they charged me more than a dollar for without telling me). Also, we were told that the tortillas were homemade and when they came, they obviously were not. My hubby and I just got our plates with water to drink and our ticket was more than $25. I was pretty unhappy. To be fair, the food was pretty good. You may have a better experience buuuuuut you have been warned. read more

I was in the area on business and decided to give this place a try. The guacamole and chips earned 2.5 stars (they could try to serve the chips without all the grease on them) and the salsa was a solid 3. The horchata was a 0. The taste of sugar was the only flavor coming through. Yuck! As my main course, I ordered one of the "specials" that was on the white board near the entrance. Green sauce enchiladas with chicken. After the first bite all I could think was, "brought to you from the kitchen of some Gringo." It did NOT taste like Mexican food. The sauce was from a jar or can. The enchilada filling was bland and not fresh tasting. The rice was obviously fished out of a batch of rice that had burned. It had that burned rice flavor. I tried 4 bites of this concoction before giving up. Sometime later, after I had left the restaurant, I was reminded of just how bad the food was at La Michoacana. Let's just say I had a non standard gastrointestinal event. Save yourself and try a different Mexican restaurant if you're in Lompoc. read more

We are traveling through Lompoc and read the reviews on Yelp. This place was either a love or hate. My husband says, "Lets try it. You can't mess up a taco." We had the shredded beef tacos combination plate. The salsa, chips and beans were good. To our amazement, the tacos were microscopic...kid size! The shredded beef was soggy for some reason and not flavorful. The margarita was weak and sweet. They were out of Chardonnay. I was happy to get a beer. The service was great. The waitress did a great job serving several tables alone. The restaurant was crowded with locals so we were hopeful. I'm Mexican, and I really don't understand the reason for the crowd.
