The food is always fresh and hot. The people are friendly and helpful. It's the only place I recommend for Mexican food.

No! Absolutely not. I hate writing these type of reviews but I feel I need to warn you that the 3.3 rating is waaayyy to generous. Either that or I got the wrong staff on a Thursday afternoon. My order: 1ea of a fish and shrimp taco, chips and guacamole, model especial. The Good: nothing beats a cold modelo after a round of golf at Zaca Creek GC with family. I got a variety of their salsas from the salsa bar and they were all very good. The Bad: everything else. The breaded fish and shrimp were just that, breading. Whatever was inside perpetrating sea food was nonexistent and fried to oblivion. I didn't finish either. The Ugly: chips and guacamole were a complete disaster. The texture was loose, liquidy, and bland. It was most likely store bought. The chips were the worst thing I ate, and that's saying something. There were 2 types in the basket; stale and ridiculously stale. I believe that they reuse chips as the lighter of the two looked and tasted like they had been out for a couple of days while the darker ones were made maybe a day before. I don't complain in the moment as the last thing I want is a remade version of that garbage made by an angry cook. However, while walking the meal back inside to put it where it belonged, the employee asked if I had an issue with the chips. I told her they were extremely stale and got an apology. Good enough earning the 1-star. Overall: now that I'm writing this, we were one of the first customers of the day and maybe they weren't ready and cut corners to get caught up. Not excusing it but trying to find anything redeeming about the experience. Safe to say that I will only go back for the modelo. read more

I got the regular burrito with carnitas. The portion was very big and generously stuffed, but it did not have the cilantro listed on the menu. The salsa from the salsa bar were very good though and helped a lot in cutting through the heaviness of the burrito. read more

Some of the best Mexican food I've ever had, went two days in a row while I was in Buellton. Will drive back here just to come to this Mexican restaurant. Also got the crispy taco and cheese enchilada plate. Both dishes were phenomenal, just an FYI their salsas are very spicy, even if they say mild. read more

I came in here 2 separate times for a very simple pickup order and each time I came in my food was just on a random table. I asked for utensils and the man at the counter looked at me as if I had a horn growing out of my head. Even when I said thank you he just stared at me with a straight face. So many Mexican food options in the area, but Taco Roco is still so good! I prefer this spot for lunch versus dinner, as the ambiance isn't a "nice sit down meal" kinda vibe. The location is great, though. I like to sit on their patio. You order at the counter and then food is brought out to you to eat. They have really good, discounted specials on certain days of the week also. Their burritos are bomb and I recently tried their tacos, which are delicious too. Their salsa bar has a lot of options and you can get as much as you want. Their staff are super friendly. Definitely try this spot if you're in the area! read more

Asked for beans and cheese in burrito. They charge $2 extra - no problem. They forget beans and cheese - no problem. I ask for $2 back, they say no we can't do refund. I say ok, no problem, could I just get a can of soda and we call it even? They say no we can't do that. Without saying anything else to me he turns to kitchen, gets a spoonful of beans and cheese, puts it in a styrofoam to go cup, puts it in a bag and hands it to me. Taco Tuesday $1, $1, $1!!! Every time we are traveling in this area and staying on a Tuesday, we hit up the Roco. We've been 4 times or so. There are about 10 choices of meat and hard/soft shell options. The shredded meat, chicken and carnitas on hard shell are all good. I think these tacos are shrinking but still very sold value. The place gets packed so this is a local favorite. read more

I have loved the food here for years, and I used to come every day. I was always made to feel welcome by the cook, who used to shout "Amigo!" from the other side of the kitchen pass-through whenever I came in. I continued to support the establishment in 2020 when they didn't observe their own posted hours (they would close early without notice, leaving those of us who raced back from SB with no good alternatives at that hour). But today the girl at the cash register crossed the threshold of indignation over something almost inconsequential. I gave her the opportunity to correct herself, but she doubled down, departing from established custom. In a single day she cost the business my goodwill as well as my continued patronage. Two of us went there this morning. Upon entry the proprietor was messing around with his laptop and appeared to be doing some type of calculations which is fine up to a point. After standing in front of the counter he continued on for approximately another five minutes with a greeting, smile or any other acknowledgement to my friend and I. Okay, okay I get it, I would have left right then and there but my buddy had taken me there and who am I to recognize the situation for what it was and just leave, nobody that's who. I ordered huevos rancheros, and my buddy ordered Machaca with rice and beans. The meals showed up in short order on plastic plates. After a moment I got up from my table and asked if I could have a fork please. This guy gave me the contemptible 'stink eye' and promptly told me it was in my napkin. I showed him the 'napkin' and he relinquished a plastic fork without comment or eye contact. My Huevos Rancheros was not good, not good at all. Two old corn tortillas with a ladle full of what had the appeaser and taste of canned chunky tomatoes poured over two eggs with the standard rice and refried pinto beans. No chips, no salsa No friendliness. That is until a Mexican family showed. The guy sat across from the register as the wife and child milled around whilst making a decision. He was like a different guy towards those people. Smiling and talkative as he was to the 'other' group only served to accentuate the 'mako' treatment that was delivered in copious amounts to my friend and I. I love this place. Fast service, friendly staff, reasonable prices, and delicious food. I go there every time I'm in Buellton. I recommend them if you like quality Mexican food that is fresh and made to order. Their staff are always willing to customize the food if you're picky. They also don't charge a lot for what I consider a quality meal. One final point is that you eat there you will enjoy the salsa bar. They usually put out different grades of salsa and onions etc. to top your meal off (I especially enjoy their mild salsa). Check them out you wont regret it. read more

This restaurant has two locations, one is in solvang location therefore decided to give this Buellton location a try. As I walked in there, there was a young lady and an older man. Both just looking at me without greeting me. I was the only one in there and the tension in there was absolutely awkward. I was taking a minute to look at the menu (since it's fairly big) and the rude man looked very annoyed. We had a dog, so I let him know that I was gonna step outside while my sister came in and ordered her part. When my sister came out she also complained about the lack of customer service. Don't know if he was the owner or employee but giving this attitude to locals definitely isn't good for the business. I ordered a steak gigantic burrito, the steak was alright, lot of fat & cartilage. The beans were really dry as well. My sister ordered three shrimp tacos and they were okay. Their patio area is a wonderful place to dine and relax. Everything is relatively clean including the bathrooms. It's good food for a decent price and they have deals for taco tuesday and Burrito Mondays so be on the lookout for those. read more
