(From my 8yr old reviewer) Bus stop diner is a good place especially for a road trip and my mom had a slice of black forest cake and it was delicious.black forest cake is my mom'lunch.mes favorite cake and she loved this cake because it had just the right amount of the chary but usually it has too much or too little chary. I had chicken nuggets that l shared them with my brother and he loved them and I did too.

My father and I got together to get breakfast and went to this convenient location. When I arrived I parked in the plaza parking lot. I walked in and was greeted. It is a local, hometown diner. We sat and Stephanie was our server and she was nice. I wanted the apple pancakes and my dad got one of the meal combos. When the apple pancakes came out, it was not what I expected. The apples and walnuts were cooked into the pancakes as opposed to it being on top like I am used to at other locations. I didn't want to send it back but didn't want to force myself either. I went with the short stack instead and that was ok. My dad said his pancakes and bacon was ok as well. The bill was super affordable and we had an ok experience.

I've never written a review like this before but I just have to. I paid $44 dollars for this order and I'm just disappointed. Maybe this place is known for something else but I ordered the following: Chicken fingers and fries - it was okay , the bbq sauce was good... honey mustard was a little watery though Shrimp basket came with fries- oh my god the shrimp was so bland it tasted like nothing and they were stuck together when they were fried...so that's not very enjoyable.. it also came with Soup or salad I chose soup- the soup was so bland it tasted like those bland canned soups. I saw 1 chunk/piece of chicken and the noodle type was the one that looks like a big rice grain... it was rally lacking any flavor Also came with a desert and I chose bread pudding - just looks like 3 slices of whitebread moistened with something idk..horrible.. Crab cake - possibly the worse I've ever had in my life. I don't know what I was expecting but it was just imitation crab fried in some batter also so so bland no flavor at all. I just don't understand how the only thing that had salt was the French fries..and I'm in shock that I paid 44 dollars for this... disappointed

I stopped into this plaza to charge my EV (they have a dual 350 kwh charger there) and I hadn't eaten yet so I lo9ked up and saw the Bus Stop diner. The food was amazing! I've eaten at many diners and this one is very delicious. Its fast and they are so friendly! I thanked the cooks after I tasted my food. Bravo, Bus Stop Diner!

The Bus Stop has been a Carteret institution for as long as I can remember, many decades, at least. It's where, growing up in town, you had your first real diner experience. This is a big deal if you live in Jersey. lol. It's undergone a makeover, as it almost burned down quite a few years back, so the decor is newer. I loved the old style, green carpet with dark wood panelling, big vinyl bench seats & tables, & dark window shades. Real 70's stuff. lol. But, the new style is nice as well. It's more classic diner, with the chrome-rimmed tables, primary color schemes, and tile floors. Anyway, onto the food...Over the years, I've had just about everything on the menu, and with few complaints, I've always enjoyed my meals. The portions are plenty, the food is freshly cooked, and the desserts are big enough, that you'll probably take it home. You get your money's worth, and in a working-class town like Carteret, that's important. I've since moved out of town, and this last visit to the Bus Stop was a nostalgic break on the way to somewhere else. It's been at least 7 years, and in that time, there has been no loss of food or service quality. The waitstaff is always friendly, and most times, you probably know the person, so there's the ol' catch-up, and town gossip. The owner is friendly & professional, and any complaint, if you have one, is handled promptly, & with courtesy. I've seen him handle a few jerks over the years, and he keeps his cool. He's a genuine guy just looking to run a good business. And, that's what he's doing. If you're in Carteret, and looking for a good meal with decent prices, and maybe a little something to take home, The Bus Stop Diner should be your destination. However, if you're looking to get silly, go to the actual bus stop across the street, and get on the 116 out of town. This is still Carteret. It's not where you want to mess up.

Breakfast .... it was OK. Not my favorite home style breakfast. I wasn't looking for a gourmet breakfast. Just wanted basic breakfast food. My Italian omelette was ok. Nothing earth shattering. Home fries were cooked well done as requested but were dry and lacked flavor. Hubby ordered is extra soft eggs which were perfect. He like home fries Sausage was great diner quality. Pancakes were average quality. Rye bread was tasty. Coffee was ok. Service and atmosphere was great. Would try again. Over easy eggs will be my next try.

This spot was very good. Good food and staff. My food came out in under 10 mins. Fresh and hot. My wrap was really greasy but other then that it was very good. Food is not so pricey and was all around worth trying!! read more

Bus Stop Diner has always been a go to place for us Recently we went to his stop diner. Food was good but service could use improvement. Our waitress was a young indian lady who was not very attentive and when we requested sugar the waitress did not hear us so we asked again and she became outraged like we were bothering her. I have to give serious concern about returning is service remains poor. Hopefully service improves. I liked this place. read more

I placed a breakfast order from the breakfast special menu. When I picked up my order I realized I didn't get the coffee and juice. When I inquired about the missing items the waitress at the front counter( with the purple hair) became hustle and extremely rude she actually went on a rant and she did it in front of other customers. I was lost for words I couldn't believe that she was yelling at me all she had to say was that it wasn't included but she should of told me that when she took my order over the phone. She was so unprofessional. My breakfast was good but because of her I will probably never go back. read more

Well worth the trip morning, noon or night. Food is always fresh & will be prepared however you like. It is not a "fancy" place but that's ok. Always friendly staff & some of the best meals & deserts I have had in my travels. If you want a really good meal & don't want to pay an Arm & a Leg for it then this is the place for you. Anything from a grilled cheese to an outstanding steak or seafood dinner. Probably my favorite is the broiled stuffed fisherman's platter followed by their spectacular carrot cake. Although this is one of their more expensive offerings it is worth every penny. Ten times better than anything Red Lobster has to offer. read more

Very comfortable booths. Was seated immediately for lunch. Almost a 50's style motif inside. It was very inviting. It's in a strip mall, so it can be easily missed. They serve breakfast all day. I had the chicken parmigiana with linguini. It was so good! read more

Great Diner! If you're looking for a great breakfast or lunch here's the place to go in Carteret! Service is fast and great! I had the Italian Omelette which comes with the home fries and rye toast! I highly recommend it ! The little corn muffins they serve to you before your meal are also delicious and warm! read more

I have only lived in Carteret for a year and have just now discovered how amazing this establishment is! They have been added to door dash and it was worth the delivery fee! I ordered a sandwich, fries, and mozzarella sticks and everything taste amazing. This will be my only food spot in Carteret! Thank you guys for this incredible meal. read more

Never disappoints. The food is fabulous, the portions are large, the service is fast, the have very delicious daily special and everything on the menu, including their desserts is reasonably priced. We took the wrong exit on our way to New Jersey from visiting the Statue of Liberty. We had gotten stuck in a storm and were dripping wet, but my kids were starving. When we walked in, the owner brought us napkins to help us dry off, then turned up the temperature as my little one had chattering teeth. We ordered lasagna, grilled cheese, soup, salads, pasta caprese and pie for dessert. It was all homemade and delicious. The waiter was one of the best we have ever had, and the owner sent us home with extra chicken soup because we loved it so much. Wish we could return, but we are from out of state. Please, check this place out if you are looking for a great meal! read more

A hideaway gem in carteret great staff but the food is always hot fresh the pancakes are a must and if you like bacon & eggs with toast and a fresh cup of coffee then plz stop in, Even though I have not tried dinner at this restaurant based on breakfast the evening food should be just as good. Great Diner - definitely a good diner, but it is a diner so I wasn't expecting more. Very busy place and noisy. Waitress was friendly and attentive. My husband said the coffee was actually good, he was expecting diner coffee, but this coffee got a thumbs up. Food was good and plentiful, definitely get a lot of bang for your buck. Good breakfast. French toast is delish! I left full and satisfied, I won't need lunch today. read more

The food is normal diner food nothing special, but the reason I'm writing this review is because of the unsafe food handling by the waitress. They are responsible for the toast not once did I see them put on any gloves while taking toast out or buttering the toast. Not only that but the individual that appeared to be the manager walked past the staff and didn't say a word about it. It's gross to be holding on to a pen and pad then immediately touching someone's food or better yet wiping your pants and then touching someone's food. Be cautious when ordering food here. read more

I hate the faux decor! I wish they would go back to their retro look with all the cool old Carteret photos. We love the owner and his wife. Some of the waitresses are better than others. Wish they would serve Mexican food since most of the cooks are Mexican. I keep asking them. Nevertheless this is our go to lunch stop. We love the split pea soup on Thursday. Wish they made it every day! The more I eat here the more I like it. Great for comfort food! Lemon meringue is amazing. read more

This is definitely one of the best places you can eat at. The food is always fresh, from scratch, and delicious. The portions are large, the food is always served timely and hot. My whole family has been going there for years and we've never once had a bad meal. The servers always have a smile and take extra special care of my senior citizen mother. The owner Zach greets everyone and makes sure you have a top notch meal. The Bus Stop is a sure bet if you want a delicious home cooked meal. read more

I came to the bus stop diner because of the great reviews. I was greeted immediately by the staff as I entered and I thought it was going to be a pleasant experience. But that was when we were seated by the back near the kitchen and I was waited on by the most miserable woman in the place. She is obviously the oldest waitress in the place. The moment I placed my order she gave me an attitude. The food was decent however based on that old waitress and her unprofessional attitude I will make not to eat there AGAIN!!! read more

If your idea of a good time is eating mediocre food with no taste while watching the waiters and waitresses eat, then you'll have a good time here. Seriously, don't come here with any expectations beyond eating food that may or may not be edible. I had the pleasure of watching 2 waitresses and a waiter eat their lunch in the food prep area. My first time at this diner was after drinking and partying into the wee hours of the night. My date and I enjoyed the breakfast sampler which is a sure way to please everyone. The coffee is strong, the service is attentive and the orange juice is fresh. Decent food at a great price!! read more

This is your typical "Jersey" diner. It has no frills and is FULL of locals but has great food. The wait staff is ok on a good day, don't expect fast or "on top of that" service, but if you want quality, variety, large portions and a reasonable price this is the place. I recently visited the bus stop Diner in Carteret New Jersey. It was the first time I had been there and it will truly be my last the staff was so unprofessional and I felt like I was eating in a cafeteria. My waitress what is a blond but most of them were but she was the only one that seemed to have any class or the only one that seemed to really care about her customers. The food was okay but like I said it was not a very pleasant atmosphere especially when I was giving my check and it was handwritten and that seemed so outdated don't they know people have computers now for that read more

After not being able to hold anything down for two days. This place was the prefect opener to eat again. Their French toast awesome, pancakes as well. Bacon, egg and cheese sandwich was prefect. We will definitely come back again and eat other items to see how good everything else is. read more

I was a hostess at The Bust Stop Diner. I will tell you first hand the food there is delicious. The atmosphere might need a bit of updating but everyone there is really friendly. There is never a waiting line even though it can get very busy, which is a good thing. I really miss and enjoyed that place both to eat and to work. read more

This diner is awesome! My dad and I were debating whether to go in or not, and ultimately did go in. Their menu is big, and everything looked delicious. We ate loaded fries which were excellent, a chicken salad sandwich, and a tuna patty melt. Our waitress was also really nice, and gave us an extra pickle when we asked for it instead of coleslaw. I highly recommend this diner to anyone who happens to be in the area. read more

I love this place! I travel to Carteret on business and this has great "home" cooking. Staff is super friendly, prices are more than reasonable and dont get me started on the desserts! Delicious! Atmosphere is casual. Its a diner, not a 5 star restaurant. As far as diners go, this is top. Makes me enjoy coming to NJ to work :) read more

Got an omelette,potatoes and toast. The restaurant was clean and good vibes from everyone. The manager even walked around making sure the customers were happy. The food wasn't like but it wasn't nasty. I'll eat here again. If you just want to pickup and go I would call ur order in first they seemed busy. The food came out in reasonable time. Much more time passes and someone (still not our server) comes to ask us if everything is alright. We explain that no one has taken our order, which she apologized for and took our order for us. She then had to come back over because she forgot to include what protein we picked for our pasta. Finally, our server came over to us. We explained that we had already ordered. More hiccups continued throughout the night, including a long wait for the check, never being brought a dessert menu after asking, etc. I'm not one to complain about service, I just think they could be more efficient. At the time we arrived, there were only a few other tables seated in our area. It wasn't super busy, and there were a lot of people working. We overheard staff whispering about who was supposed to be taking care of us, and it still took time for someone to come over and help us. I think the staff knew we overheard or were disappointed in the service, because our dessert was free, and we received a bread basket as well. I'd love to give them another chance, just maybe not if I have plans after.
