I had such a great experience at this diner!! Everything from the food to the atmosphere made it a brunch with family to remember. As soon as we sat down, our server was incredibly welcoming and attentive. I asked him for a drink recommendation and told him what flavors I usually enjoy, and he immediately suggested something that ended up being absolutely perfect for me. The drink didn't take long at all to come out as well! Everyone at my table ordered burgers, and we were all impressed. The portions were generous, and the burgers were cooked just right. They were juicy, flavorful, and satisfying without feeling overly heavy. We paired them with fries and onion rings for the table, and both were sooo crispy and delicious. The restaurant itself is beautiful both outside and inside. It has a really inviting vibe, and you can tell they put effort into creating a space that feels stylish but still comfortable. When we arrived, it wasn't too busy, which made for a relaxed lunch experience. While we were there, near the bar area there was a group of people celebrating something with a DJ, and the energy over there looked like so much fun!! We found this hidden gem the last time I was visiting family. This is my second time eating at this restaurant. I have only had their breakfast and it is delicious. I ordered eggs, bacon and a banana waffle. When you order a side of bacon they serve you six slices of bacon. (I actually asked the server if it was a side?). The banana waffles come with an entire banana sliced on it. The portions for breakfast are extremely generous! Located in Ford's, NJ on what looks like Main Street you will find Colonial Restaurant. It's mixed in among houses and shops. It's a typical NY Diner menu which I love. When you walk in there is counter seating the length of the restaurant on the right and a line of booths that seat 4 on the left. If you go with a large party you will have to sit separately. There is booth seating and counter seats. The food is diner style serving breakfast and lunch. They also have daily specials. I had a waffle with sliced bananas and walnuts. Awesome little diner I decided to try based on the ratings here. First walked in and it was everything I expected and more. Then reality set in. I was number one in line to be seated and there were open tables. I stood and listened for 10 minutes, to the hostess bitch and complain to a customer about how incompetent everyone else working there was. She walked away and someone else finally seated me. The food does not disappoint and that is why it got this score. Everything was perfect with the meal and it was out fast. I had an omelette with the breakfast potatoes and toast. The wait staff was not very attentive and I finally just asked someone else for more coffee and my check. I may return for a second look. There are "greasy spoons" then there's this place. The juice dispenser apparently broke (which could happen anywhere) and I was served warmer-than-room temperature OJ. After I salted my home fries, I noticed dead ants in the salt shaker. I even looked at the next shaker a few seats away, and that one had bugs in it as well. The omelette was good. But after the bugs in the salt shakers and getting food poisoning from the long sip of OJ (first sip, hadn't realized it was warm yet), I'm never going back. A really good, affordable diner. Two counters with seating. Limited number of booths that can seat 4. Only open for breakfast and lunch. On some days, there's a waiting list with people milling around front entrance waiting to get a table. But there's a reason for its popularity. The food is so darn good and abundant. And the prices are extremely reasonable given the amount of food served. You get free refills of coffee. Great french toast: 3 large slices of brioche bread; one of their french toast specials include a whole sliced banana and strawberries plus coffee or tea, all for $11.00. Yummy and very filling. I also love their banana pancakes with the slices of banana cooked right into the batter. Their specialty omelettes and fresh salads are also quite good. The owner, Tommy, and the servers are genial and attentive. The cooks have been there a long time and can whip up their standard as well as new "specials" in a heartbeat. On occasion, I've also seen Tommy being very hands-on and helping prepare dishes. The diner is clean, fairly comfortable, has tasty and abundant food choices, is reasonably priced, and has good service. What a cool little place to have breakfast. A friend told me about this gem a few mo the back & I've been trying to stop but today it finally happened. It's hidden pretty well in a small strip center and if it wasn't for the construction going on I wouldn't of found it. I had remembered a month or so ago I was driving by and they were refinishing the front but I didn't have the tome to stop. I ordered the French toast with bacon so good & a friend met me and he ordered some special they had with Canadian bacon and eggs with potatoes. I'm glad I ordered here. When you're up early and you don't want to go to IHOP, this place tastes a lot cleaner. Their omelettes taste like scrambles, which I prefer. It's not dry. A couple of Saturdays ago we paid our first visit. It took about twenty minutes to get a table and, one satisfying breakfast later, we understood why there were as many people, appetites tempered by patience, waiting to be seated as when we arrived. I guess this restaurant closes its doors for the day at 2:00 because they've served so many palatable plates by then, the staff can go home and make dinner for themselves. The Omelets are also really good (jersey omelet) and the breakfast potatoes are good too. Portions are big, parking is on the street, seating is limited, staff is super nice and quick. Overall a must visit for a old timie bfast diner experience. Also expect a wait, but it is worth it. Update- back recently and we arrived at 144pm before closing and they would not seat us even though they close at two. Ordering takeout was not allowed and it was frustrating. They should update business hours to close at 145pm on sundays not 2pm. Not sure why they clean grill and close up early if you have hours on the door that say another time. The service is always excellent no matter how busy it gets. It's the kind of restaurant where the old folks go for a cup of coffee and to read the newspaper. The food here is great, too. They have daily specials at reasonable prices. In fact, I can't complain about the prices of anything on their menu. I believe the prices are fair and you get a good amount of food. This has been my "go to" breakfast spot since high school. I rather a mom and pop shop any day then a franchise like IHOP or Perkins. The chefs cook in the back of the restaurant so it gets extremely warm in there. I would recommend wearing something lite. The food was very good the last time I went. My sister ordered the chocolate chip pancakes with two eggs and toast. I ordered the jersey omelette. This place also offers a lunch menu if you're not a breakfast person. The waiters and waitresses were accommodating and on point with the orders and refilling the coffee. There's a few spots to park in front of the building and at the corner there's a parking lot.
