At the beginning there was one snag when a server brought our glasses and my gf's glass had lip prints on it - that's why I'm giving it 4 out of 5 - the glass was switched and the rest of the night went amazing. The food and the dishes are an absolute treat. We had a selection of rolls, tuna tartar, a soup, and dessert. Bushniwa has a great vibe and even on Wednesday night it was packed. Came here with my sister for the first time and I was pretty impressed. Very fresh sushi. We split the $65 sushi and it was delicious. We also had these very unique flat square shaped Fried dumplings which I enjoyed. The service was very good constantly refilling water and hot tea cups. Also the food came out in a decent time frame. Came on Saturday night without a reservation and managed to snag two seats at the bar. The restaurant was full but still felt lowkey and chill, rather than rushed and frantic. My drink was made almost immediately after ordering. It was refreshing, but a bit watered down. The Bushniwa roll was simple with clean flavors. No need to jazz it up and mask the quality of the fish! The jalapeño sauce was very light and complimented the yellowtail. The una don was brought out last, but it certainly was not the least. My brother wanted to go here so we made the trek to Bushwick. It did not disappoint. The place has an upscale trendy vibe and has a lot of wood and exposed brick. We started with hot tea, which was delicious. The servers were very nice and gave us a full pot. The service was really quick. We ordered Shrimp and Edamame dumplings to start. They were crispy almost flat dumplings that were fried. The sweet sauce on the side was slightly spicy and was delicious. Really hit the spot. We also ordered red miso soup. It tasted exactly like normal miso soup. I probably would save the extra $1 and get the regular miso soup next time. For our entree we shared the $55 sushi dinner. It was composed of an 8-piece spicy tuna maki roll and 16 pieces of sushi. Every piece of sushi made our mouth water. We were thrilled because there were two pieces of each different type of fish, so we were both able to eat. We left satisfied. I am unsure if current times are affecting this business or it's just how they always were and it's been hyped. My partner and I waited 30 minutes (we kept track) for our food. We ordered two appetizers we received only one cold flavorless "miso" cod (it was more of a mushroom appetizer with a sliver of cod). The one and only appetizer came with my partners sushi rolls. One didn't taste to fresh (bushniwa) and the other was quite tough to chew (toro). My chef sashimi came with no description from the waiter of what I was being served on a bed of ice (red flag) the tuna didn't taste nor looked fresh. Perhaps sushi is not making the cut during these time but who knows. Overall this was not worth a drive and you're better of eating whatever you have at home. read more

Ok so the right oder came today, they take kind of long in my opinion but it's all good, food canes in a plastic bag in side there's a brown bag which contains the food, napkins chopsticks soy sauce & a spicy mayo sauce in the bag. Food portion sizes are good. If you ate sushi before you pretty much know what your getting into lol. Now for the food we ordered the 2 pork buns which are always amazing & right on point! 2 orders of shrimp avacado rolls amazing also! Bushwick was bumpin' on a Thursday night, but the staff at Bushniwa never missed a beat. My date and I were entertained by a level of customer service that was part stand up routine and part fine dining. In between laughs, we poked through the crispy thin shell of our vegetable gyoza to free its individual pieces. The laughs continued as I bit into the soft shell crab streaming juices down my chin. Is sexy messy a thing? It should be. The Bushniwa dumplings were a little more contained, but packed with moist shrimp and scallion flavor. We stretched out the beef short rib negimaki for as long as possible because it was steaming hot, but also to let the sauce and fatty meat drippings swirl into each other for our dipping pleasure. Surprisingly, we still had a little more room to round out this Bushniwa experience with three rolls - the Salmon skin, sweet potato tempura, and spicy tuna. The lunch special is what we came for, we did take away and it was perfect. Simple, sustainable packaging. Perfect simple spicy tuna roll and Sashimi platter that was so so, can't say it was amazing, but definitely better than other delivery/take out sushi places in the city. We were surprised no one else was there on a Saturday at noontime, but perhaps more people came to the restaurant later on in the day. Hand sanitizer was provided to us at the front of the restaurant. Bushniwa is beautifully set up and filled with wooden furniture and lively plants, resonating the lively feel of Brooklyn. With their lunch menu, there was a deal where we could get 2 rolls for $13. What a steal! My husband and I both participated in this deal, so we had a total of 4 rolls. We ended up getting the yellowtail scallion roll, the salmon skin roll, the eel avocado roll, and the spicy tuna roll. The yellowtail scallion roll was a little underwhelming. The spicy tuna roll was quite soft but mostly just tasted spicy and not really anything else. The eel avocado roll was quite creamy but still paired well with the more savory eel component. The salmon skin roll was my favorite, as its salty and crunchiness of the salmon skin paired well together! Also impressive: their eel sauce and spicy mayo. Although you will be charged for the extra sauce, it's worth it! Overall, Bushniwa fulfilled my sushi cravings! My friend and I decided to have dinner at Bushniwa on a weekday evening. Neither of us had previously visited but surprisingly enough we had both had it on our list of places to visit for a while. We had made a reservation but the place wasn't crowded at all. We were seated and given menus to look over. Came here for my birthday lunch and honestly it was alright, the presentation was awesome though and I wish I took more photos but we were all starving. The chefs also gave us about 2 pieces less of ebi and normally I wouldn't mind but the prices are quite high compared to the portions. I know sushi/sashimi is expensive, I know portion sizes are small, but we got the large platter, 2 rolls, and another set but we all left quite hungry. We got lucky and the one we chose was refreshing. As for the food, the chicken karaage ($12.50) was freshly fried so it was perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy and tender inside! The braised pork belly ($18) turned out to only be one piece of pork belly, so the value wasn't great for the price. One of my favorite sushi spots in Brooklyn. Underrated. Incredibly authentic. Upscale dishes in an unassuming atmosphere. You'll find one of a kind specials here that are hard to find anywhere else. We ordered both specials on the menu. I can't tell you what the sushi was but it was amazing. The other special was the dobi mushi, similar to a chawanmushi but instead of a custard it's a broth with a mixture of exotic seafood and mushrooms. The broth is clear and fragrant. The seafood was fresh and perfectly cooked. Also this is the first time I've had fresh ikura. If you ever get a chance, I would highly recommend it. Most ikura you find in restaurants come frozen and processed. This was a special dinner so we went all out but no regrets it's one of the best meals I've had all year. read more

Sometimes, it's just a fancy name. That's how I feel about this place. While some their special dish called Bushniwa sushi is exceptional, everything else is just overpriced and just alright for me. It's a nicely decorated restaurant in the industrial area in Bushwick, supposedly an up-and-coming neighborhood, and the staff are attentive. Do I act like a critic or do I act like a "reviewer"? Who am i to be holier than thou. The sushi was friggin awesome, so 5 stars! Service was certainly above average and they even sang to me on my B-day, but.... there were A LOT of items that were "86'd" not too late on a Saturday night. These guys crush, go here. The first 2 things I tried to order, the King crab potpie and the live eels were both not available. My buddies date had her first to things "N/A" as well. First Terryaki chicken then something else, she didn't feel well coming in, so she was trying to eat something she knew well. The miso soup did her decently, but she really just wanted what she wanted. I'll quit ranting about all this, lol. My sushi and sashimi was solid. The $30 thing that is basically a chef's tasting is a damn good deal. I got some salmon belly and some tuna that many places would call toro. My sake was pretty cheap and not bad. Many better options available to those who want to spend the $. The green tea tiramisu that I got for desert was friggin' amazing.
