The barrel aged beers and ales make a unique and distinctive addition to the bourbon and other spirits they produce. During the 1960s a plight to save this area began. Many shot gun shacks surround the area. They are shacks with their own quaint detail and design. They have carried this over in the decor and style of ales. This brewery is too cool they have no holds bard for anything that steps on an inch of human rights. You can be black, white, illegal or rainbow all are welcome wherever; just leave the hate alone. This brewery may be small, but it has some interesting brews and a great atmosphere! I came here recently for trivia and was so impressed. First, the beers. I got the Mango-Colada Sour, and this was delightful. It seems like Butchertown Brewing really excels at sours, fruit beers and fun concoctions. So if you're not afraid to "fruit the beer," this is a good place to check out. They also have seltzers, hard sodas and more typical beer offerings. And while it is small, you can still easily find food. It's right across the Mellwood Art Center courtyard from Danny Mac's Pizza (my all-time favorite Louisville pizza spot!). And you can order via Danny Mac's website and choose to get it delivered to Butchertown Brewing. You don't even have to leave your chair to get delicious pizza! Butchertown Brewing also hosts fun events, like the aforementioned trivia. Actually it was trivia bingo -- so the more fun, easier-to-play version of triva, which I actually won a prize in! This brewery is in a wonderful location, pop over to the antique mall or grab some pizza on your way out. The brewery has a great selection of board games, cozy atmosphere, and always quick service. I kinda want to live here forever and get to drink their offerings every day. Not that I could afford that... This place is even smaller than a micro-brewery! Nanobrewery! I love and adore their beer. The "sours" are often fruity and pastry-style, but using coconut cream so they are vegan! Sweeter than other sours, very like grown-up kool-aid or boozy milkshakes, they are also often higher ABV than one would expect for sours. SO FRIGGEN DELICIOUS. Flights and pours are more expensive than at other breweries and bars, but the batches are smaller and the ingredients more interesting. The flavors are worth it! They also have more beer-like beers, barleywines and stouts and things like that. But when I come here, it is because my sour-loving palate is going to be catered to. The bartenders and brewers have been friendly and welcoming and my guy and I, and all the friends I have introduced to Butchertown Brewing have felt welcomed and comfortable. They do not have food, but you can bring your own in. OR you can order from Danny Mac's across the walkway. They will deliver to your table at the brewery too. Met these fine people at NULU Festival. They were really helpful in picking out some good brews for each of us. The beer was good tasting and was a decent price. The tent we met them at was nicely organized. It was raining but it did not stop the staff from taking care of customers. First of all, Butchertown Brewing is the only brewery in Louisville with multiple gluten free beer options. And from the look of their social media, they have a constant rotation of brews. As someone with celiacs, I haven't had beer in over 8 years, so this was super exciting. The bartender was really nice in explaining what I should expect from each drink on the flight, which I appreciated since I really don't know anything about beer. My favorite was the raspberry sour. It was the least sweet of the four of them, and according to my fiancé who is a regular beer drinker, definitely tasted the most like beer. It was sweet, but also tangy and slightly hoppy. I would definitely buy a full glass of the raspberry sour. Overall vibe here was good! Lots of people, tvs with various sports, & lots of board game options! I will be back for sure! read more

One of Louisville's newest breweries located in Butchertown. I got to try them at the beer fest at Frazier Museum back this past summer and I was just in love. I happened to be around the area and decided to check the place out. They are only open on Saturday's as of now. They are located in where Mellwood Art center is. It was kinda tricky to find so I had to use their map that was posted. They are on the 2nd floor across from where Danny Macs Pizza is. It is fairly small on the inside and very limited bar seating. I got to try their Pumpkin Pie beer and I liked it very much. There were only 3 beers on tap at the time of my visit. I also got to talk to the bartender and learned about the place some and he was an awesome host. Although this is a very small brewery I do hope to see them grow and be as big as the other breweries in town. I do plan on returning when I'm in the area. read more

I hold Mellwood Art Center in high regard, as well as Butchertown in general, and this is the stellar brewery they deserve. They were superb from the start, slinging creative and crowd-pleasing beers in their old second-floor nook. Now their taproom and hours have expanded considerably, and the beer is as good as ever! Butchertown Brewing is best known for catering to drinkers with a sweet tooth. Their sours (generally light) and stouts (VERY strong) often draw upon dessert flavors like mint chocolate chip, berry parfait and tropical punch. Fair warning, they are on the pricey side, but I have yet to meet anyone who wasn't seriously impressed with them. Creamy sours are the best sours if you ask me, and Butchertown Brewing cranks them out with aplomb. At the top of their menu (which you really should read through - the descriptions are quite witty), you'll find the "Beer Flavored Beer" section - you know, ales, pilsners and the like. These are always good and usually excellent, and the $6/pint price tag is very reasonable. If you happen to catch it on tap, the Gianna Italian lager is a real standout, and the Butchertown Juice is a solid IPA with a unique flavor profile (juicy, yet more dry than sweet). This is a highly versatile and formidable brewery that should be on every local beer fan's radar. It may not seem like the flashiest taproom at first glance, but with one of the friendliest brewery crews around and outstanding output, it's hard not to see Butchertown Brewing as a slice of paradise. read more

If you are not familiar with the brews here I suggest getting a flight of five different beers. The Snarky Blonde is great but my favorite is the Blood Orange Sour. They have brews for everyone's taste. The service is great and the prices are on par with the town. You can set inside but the best place is outside at one of the tables. On certain days there are local performers playing music. Pair up your beer with a Danny Mac's pizza and you have a great casual meeting place without all the mainstream hype at the chain pubs. read more
