We've been to 3rd Turn a few times recently - one for a private event and another for music bingo. This is a converted church so sitting in its main indoor space is a nice setting - high ceilings, high top tables and the bar. I also love the corners with comfy couches and chairs. Plenty of beer to enjoy plus a few slushies - although those are so sweet that I'm not a fan. You can bring in your own food or order delivery from a few spots in the Gaslight District. I especially appreciate it's a family friendly space because my sons are teens. It was so much fun to enjoy music bingo with them while eating pizza from Parlour. Outdoor seating as well - lots of it. Easy street parking. Quick service. Follow them on social to keep up with their events. What a fun spot! We live in Irish Hill and decided to venture out into the 'burbs for variety. This is a church turned brewery, and while they don't have food, they allow outside food to be brought in, which is great for us because we could bring our dog inside from the blazing hot summer heat. They had a ton of beers, but we opted for the slushies -- the Pineapple one was hot weather perfection, and the other was so incredibly strong i couldn't finish it. I also ordered an Old fashioned, and it was an ultimate concoction with a giant rock of ice. You know an Old fashioned will be good when they don't serve it with chipped ice. We hung out for a few hours and played cards, and the bartenders were friendly and accommodating. I wish this place was closer to us cause we would be regulars! At the very least, we will return in cooler weather to enjoy the outside patio. read more

I met up with a bunch of friends here on a week night e. The first thing to know is it is drinks only. They don't serve food. However you can go 2 doors down the street and get a sandwich at Boone's Deli, which I did. Some friends had a pizza delivered. As for the drinks, you can get tasters of any of their drinks. I tasted the bourbon sushi and the Orange Deeamin sushi. I went with the Orange Slushi which was great. As for the service, they didn't have anyone walking around while we were there. We had to walk up to the bar to get our drinks, which was fine. This 3rd Turn Brewing location is fine for just sitting a talking with a drink. I kind of wish they did serve food. I've also gone to the 3rd Turn Brewing in Oldham county. I definitely prefer that one as it is much more entertaining. read more

3rd Turn Brewing is one of the more interesting breweries. It used to be an old church and it still has a few of the old stain glass windows snd the outside still has that church feel to it. The drinks are great. They have a large variety of beers so there is something for everyone. I'm eyeing on the blue raspberry beer for my next visit. I love their outdoor space. They have a giant deck that they share with the deli next door so it's the perfect spot to have a cold drink on a hot day. The only downside is the service can be hit or miss. I've been before where the bartender was on top of everything then I've been where they disappear for 5-10 minutes. read more

We love 3rd Turn...both locations. Last week we decided to go back to the original, so close to our home. There were a lot of people there riding out lost power after the storms. The brewery had food available specifically for those neighbors, and I think that's stellar. We enjoy the beer and slushes, of course, always. 3rd Turn never disappoints on taste. The space is laid out perfectly, and there are nice couches at the front and back. The patio is lovely as well, tho it was a bit chilly that day. I don't necessarily dislike 3rd turn brewing but, I will say it's not in my top 5 favorite breweries in Louisville. More on that shortly. This brewery is located in a very busy part of Jtown close to the police department and where the farmers markets are held in the public parking lot (Also the hosting of Jtown Craft Bash every year). Depending on what time of the day you go you may or may not have issues with the public parking lot. And the walk there isn't very far, they also have private parking but not a lot of spaces. This Brewery is in a former church (very interesting). There are big tables in the front and they have a bar straight ahead. Big kicker here is they don't have bar seating. Idk if this was before Covid or what but, didn't like the fact they didn't have bar seating. And they don't do flights either which is another kicker. They do some small pours though but I forget the size. Staff here is friendly and knowledgeable, and can even make recommendations on what to get as well. I've come here for special occasions like Ale Trail and Books and Brews. They do have some pretty good dark beers, the coffee one was one of my favorites if they still have it. I typically come here if I'm in the area. I'll be back at some point in time. Maybe for special events like Books and Brews or an Ale trail event but, it won't be any time soon. read more

3rd Turn is a relaxed brewery that's great for meeting friends that is also housed in a beautiful former church. I love that it can be both visually impressive and comfortable at the same time. Plus, the beer is fun too! My most recent visit was for my brother-in-law's birthday. He rented out the back sitting area, which was perfect for the group. It has plenty of places to sit as well as to congregate. He also brought in Qdoba for catering and set up the food in a small room next to the bar -- also pretty ideal. And along with visiting folks and eating tacos, we got to enjoy 3rd Turn's offerings. I started with one of their bourbon slushies. Yes, 3rd Turn is a brewery, but their bourbon slushies should not be ignored. I got the pineapple bourbon slushie, which had the perfect amount of sweetness and bourbon. What a great summer drink! And then I got the awesomely named -- wait for it -- Beer Flavored Gun Boobs, a Märzen. And after trying sips of my husband's flight of beer, I think I chose the best beer (at least to my tastes). This beer was slightly sweet and full of spice. Not sure if this is "the manliest beer you will ever drink," but it's delicious. I also tried the Classy Lady Porter, which is made with chocolate and marshmallow. Wow, this one was full of those flavors. The marshmallow was a bit much for my husband, but I really liked it. The Tango with the Mango Brut IPA is definitely heavy on the mango, and the Sunday Valley Saison would be my second favorite brew of the night. 3rd Turn is a fun place. Guys, this place is MY JAM!!! 3rd Turn continues to rock out handcrafted venues (built by the owners). They upcycle as many materials as possible and do their best to maintain the unique venues natural magic. And now we are onto the beer. By far, my favorite brewery in Louisville. The tap changes almost daily and there is always something funky about even the most basic beers. I have difficulty drinking more than one beer total a day because of how heavy they can be. However, when consuming high abv beer that is clean and brewed the right way, I am able to drink multiple beers in one sitting. Which, makes it great for the beer lover that I am! & now, 3rd Turns craft bourbon bar next door is open! Eventually, the third building also owned by 3rd Turn will become a restaurant. 3rd Turn Brewing is awesome!! It's such a lovely little brewery. It is located inside what used to be a church in the heart of J Town. The inside is very large and spacious with plenty of room to sit, including some couches in the back. The bar is smack right in the middle of the building, giving it 360 degrees if access. They've got a room where you can grab a board game, and there are TONS to choose from! If you end up outside, you can indulge in their gorgeous little patio that includes a fire pit. And they are pupper friendly!! They've got quite a bit of drinks to choose from. Of course, beer. There are about 20ish to choose from, plus ciders and sours. About 10 are their own brews and the other half are different brands. The menu shows some of what their drinks are, and some it's hard to determine what kind of beer it is. If you're not into beer, they've got Oaks Lily, Bourbon Pineapple, and a couple other kinds of slushies. Ugh, I just wanted to try everything! I tried the Country Boy Orange Cider, and it was GOOOD! I've came across this brewery in Jeffersontown and went back again the next day! They have 20 beers on tap, which most of these are their own brew with a few other local beers, the brews rotate on a weekly basis. And don't forget about the daiquiri machine that had frozen Lily, and a bourbon and pineapple. I wasn't able to make up my mind on one beer so I tried 6 via their flight. It's $2 per beer. They only make beer, not food, so bring your own food, and they also have a few food truck lined up throughout the week. One thing I loved about this place is all the dogs that are allowed to join inside. It has such a local vibes, and beautiful views from their stain glass windows. read more

When I moved to J-Town earlier this year I wasn't aware of 3rd Turn Brewing. My wife mentioned it because she drove by when she had to renew her license plate and it immediately piqued my interest. Imagine my delight when I find out out it's only 1.2 miles from home. 3rd Turn is located in an old church, and is easy to get to in downtown Jeffersontown. It's a couple doors down from the Jefferson County Clerk office and at 1.2 miles from home, a very easy walk for me. :D There is limited parking in the street, and much more behind the building. The partially shaded patio behind and along side of the building is a great touch with a number of tables for your outside brew enjoying pleasure. A stairway leading out of the back of the building will take you to the parking lot. The interior is very open and spacious. High-top tables line the sides of the interior, as well as some very comfortable leather couches and seats with coffee tables. Dimly lit and cozy, this is a GREAT place to hang out, drink great beer, and get comfortable. As if there's not enough seating between the patio and the front of the house, there is additional seating in the back. A neat feature, in the back left corner, is the floor is cut away so you can view the machinations of the entity that is 3rd Turn. 3rd Turn doesn't have any food service, but there are a number of local eateries that will deliver food to you, which means you can sit and drink great craft beer longer. Let's face it...how many times have you had a few beers and said "MAN! I'm hungry! I wish I had something to eat!"? With that I've saved the best for last. The real reason you come in the door. THE BEER. 20 (TWENTY) craft beers on tap. Generally they're pretty well divided between 3rd Turn brews and local brews. Everything is listed on a big-ass chalk board behind the beer tap fountain of youth. Making the selections for your flight is as easy as writing numbers down on a piece of paper. The staff is VERY knowledgeable about not only 3rd Turn beers, but about everything they offer (including the beers that are not 3rd Turn). I've had a couple flights, always limiting myself to 3rd Turn brews (when in Rome, drink the local beer first) and I have yet to be disappointed. "Hi, 3rd Turn! My name is Jim. It's nice to meet you. This is a cool place in Jtown that serves nothing but beer! Its an old church that is no longer in service and they made it into a bar. Sounds about right. lol. Anyway its really neat what they have done with the place. It is updated, it has a few tv's,( I wish it had more to watch sports) and has a bunch of IPA and other craft beers. I am a fan of craft beer so this place was perfect for me. I would give it 4 out of 5 and recommend you go out a try it. I will be returning. read more

But, moving on. This is a unique space of high ceilings and open room. You walk to a counter to order your beer. I actually only had their selection of rotating brewers so I can't speak to their own beer. It did appear they had a lot of board games and activities in a side room. It'd be fun, casual place for a group of friends to hang out. The ambiance in general was a little uninteresting and a little blah. No music or it was playing very softly. The bartenders were knowledgeable and very friendly. Parking behind the space was very close and abundant. It was a little out of the ways for me. It was a fine place. This place is dog and baby friendly, however, some puppies are afraid of human babies if they haven't encountered a human baby before. This is something I learned at 3rd Turn! I enjoyed the atmosphere of the place. My friends had picked an awkward table but I will forgive them for this. The building is an old church that has been turned into a bar. I am sure less sinning happens here now that they serve beer. That's usually how it works. We went on a vinyl night so there was a lot of great music playing. It wasn't too loud either which I appreciated greatly. You can have music on and still be able to speak to someone sitting next to you. The records were also for sale, which was great if you collect them and it was cool to connect with a record source. That night, and several nights, there was a food truck outside the bar that you could get food at. I think this is a great partnership and made going to the bar and not getting dinner first attractive. They also had a wide selection of beer, I only had half a beer because I was holding the baby that came with us. I will always hold the baby since you have more babies than I do. The "before" Moose Lodge pictures really show the blah that they started with and the beauty that this ownership group was able to bring out of this old building in Jeffersontown. Gorgeous stained glass church windows, original brick, hardwood floors, spacious seating, easy flow from the large first room through the back to the secondary sport bar-like seating and back porch, comfy leather couches that deserve some cozying types lounging there for an afternoon...:) Attention to every detail. Way to go, guys, very classy and comfortable. The service - 5 stars. Relaxed, glad to see you, knowledgeable and friendly. Sit at the bar area long enough and my hunch is they'll sit down and have a sip or two right along with you (not confirmed of course, but give me a few visits and I'll test that theory). The beer - an unknown, leading to that nagging 4-star rating for the moment. 5 weeks in business and they don't yet have their brewery area set up yet so it's going to be awhile before we get to taste a true 3rd Turn brew. It happens. Luckily they have a nice selection of locals on tap in the grand, supportive tradition of the craft brew community and I had a chance to try some nice beers nonetheless. It works for now but I saw some of their equipment getting ready and am really looking forward to getting a sampler of their signature stuff! Its a brewery, that's where the magic happens after all. Long story short, I could definitely become a regular of 3rd Turn Brewing if I were a wee bit closer. It's like a suburban Holy Grale! Without the food...but not to worry! Loui Loui's up the street will deliver! A beer haven set in a renovated church. Many local craft beers on draft for your enjoyment, and recently added to the bunch, 3rd Turn's own brews! Light, dark, bitter, sweet...there will certainly be something you will like. Live a little! Get a flight! And if beer isn't your thing, they have a few liquor slushies on hand too! Mudslides and bourbon slushies! Really, the thing that keeps me coming back is the atmosphere. The people are friendly, the space is cozy, and I always have a good time here. The only negative is the large...LARGE...gap between the second women's bathroom stall and the wall.
