There's always a line out the door at Buttermilk Bakery, but don't be afraid to hop in! The line moves fairly quickly, with the staff being super efficient. You can order online, but sometimes not all of the items are listed, so I usually order in person. They bake everything fresh daily, so I don't mind waiting for it. Their kouign amann is a must have, with the perfectly caramelized, flaky texture. The Mexican street corn croissant and tomato pesto & ricotta croissant were both well balanced takes on the classic, and their donuts are flavorful as well. Note the seating is extremely limited (all outdoors) and would recommend street parking, since their parking lot is always full.

Rating Buttermilk Bakery at a 2.5 stars, though I previously would have rated it 4.5. This used to be a hidden gem many years ago during my nearly 20 years of living in Orlando and because of how amazing they are/can be, everyone has learned of them, rightfully so! I'm honestly heartbroken to write this review. What used to be my favorite bakery in the Orlando/WP area fell very short during my recent visit. I'm not sure what happened, but I'm hoping it was just a fluke because I'd love to return and have the experience I used to! The variety of their sweet and savory pastries is incredible and it's hard not to get excited looking at the display. I wanted to order one of everything. I went with my husband and our friends, and we all agreed the pastries would absolutely have been stellar if a warm-up option were available. Unfortunately, everything we had was cold and tasted stale :( this left us very disappointed. I asked a staff member if it was possible to warm up the cheddar potato pastry, but was told, "No, not right now. Sorry." I wasn't sure if warming items isn't offered at all or if their equipment wasn't working during the time of our visit. The line can be long but it moves quickly. Staff members are friendly, and there's a convenient water and utensils station. I do think it might help to offer a microwave or toaster for self-service since staff understandably can be busy. I love the outdoor deck! It's really nice, especially during a beautiful day with lovely weather. I appreciate that they have high chairs. My friends and I are all parents now, and those little conveniences truly matter. If I had one main suggestion, it would be to offer a way to warm the pastries. I truly think that small change would make a big difference and have people (like us) eager to come back.

Made a donut run this morning! As always the service and vibe here is second to none. What blew me away this morning was... the Vanilla Sprinkle Brioche Donut... I feel so basic. 10/10, only a "Hot Donuts Now" (my favorite) sign could even slow me down on my way there!

Bacon cheddar pull apart and chocolate banana muffin

Go-to for breakfast on-the-go. We were heading to the beach and needed quick homemade gourmet breakfast treats. We ordered the sugar donut, churro twist, the chocolate banana muffin and ham and cheese pull apart. I don't recommend the bacon/ cheddar pull apart, it was too hard for my style. But everything else was great. Service was amazing. No rush to take your order. It is a tight squeeze to get in line to give your order.

I look forward to my trips to Central Florida a few times a year to indulge in all things Buttermilk Bakery makes. The tarts I've had are always luscious & superb with so much flavor. The various croissants are crispy & flaky on the outside and flavorful with the perfect balance of flavor from various ingredients. My favorite croissant I've ever had is the Matcha croissant. Hopefully one day, they will make it again.

Caramelized onion garlic braid croissant

We visited buttermilk bakery on a Saturday morning after going to see the manatees at blue springs. We've been looking for a good bakery or breakfast spot to hit after the springs for a while, and I think we found it. I got the caramelized onion garlic braid croissant. The texture of it was soft and flaky, and it was honestly delicious. It had a solid garlic flavor and the pepitas on top were really nice too, but I found that they could've gone heavier on the onion. This is where I docked a star because I'm a big proponent to committing to the flavor profile. My companion got the cinnamon roll bread pudding croissant, and this thing was magical. The taste and texture were fantastic and the icing was sooooo good. I can't say it was really giving bread pudding, but it was still delicious. The iced tea and coffee we got were also delicious. The staff there were also super friendly and quick, and they even threw in a few donut holes since it was our first time! I'm excited to go back here and try more of their stuff.

Baked goods of the day

Buttermilk Bakery in Winter Park is an absolute gem. Everything they make is packed with flavor and clearly crafted with care--you can taste the quality in every bite. The galettes are a standout for me; perfectly balanced, buttery, and impossible to get tired of. And the donuts? Unreal. Soft, flavorful, and just the right amount of indulgent. This is one of those places that never disappoints and keeps you coming back. A must-visit if you love great baking done right. The bakery itself feels like a cozy home. Most of the functional space is prioritized for the baking operations, so it's cool to see where the magic happens. You're always greeted with a smile after you've perused the day's offerings. Pro tip - order ahead online to make sure you get exactly what you want!

Banana muffin, morning roll, lemon poppyseed muffin, guava cheesecake pop tart, and lemon lavender pop tart

This is my favorite local bakery! We stopped by to get a box of goodies for the office and loved the whole experience. The shop is cute and charming. The staff are welcoming and fast. The pastries are gorgeous and so fresh. We picked out several items: the guava cheesecake pop tart, lemon lavender pop tart, cinnamon morning roll, lemon poppyseed muffin, and the banana muffin. The lemon poppyseed muffin is my all time favorite item. Our office all loved the lemon lavender pop tart. All were amazing. Be sure to stop by!

Food: I feel that when you get there early, the food is good but toward the end, it can be cold. If you like it cold, you are good. I like mine toasted. It just makes it taste fresh. I will say that they have a good danishes. Service: it's a pick and pay. I asked if my croissant could be toasted but they said no. It would be nice if they would toast it for you. Ambiance: it's a cute little place with no indoor seating, but you can have a spot outside that is covered.

I haven't had Buttermilk in ages, literal years, and recently stopped when they hosted a local coffee pop up. The line was long but moved quickly and the service was friendly. Myself and a friend split several items, both sweet and savory. The items all looked picture perfect but they were just okay, in my opinion. The textures were good but the items lacked flavor. My favorite item was the focaccia, which was very tasty. I'll definitely give it another whirl, but I was a bit disappointed.

Monkey bread, chocolate croissants, coffee cake croissants

Cute, little walk in bakery! They have no indoor seating but they have a few outdoor tables to relax and enjoy your treat at. The staff is awesome and efficient! Loved them! And the food...... OMG! It was so very, very good! We only did sweet this time but all the savory items looked amazing as well Ordered the cinnamon roll croissants with cream cheese icing, monkey bread, chocolate croissants and coffee cake croissants. Everyone of them was out of this world! Absolute sugar heaven! There are not enough adjectives to do these baked items justice...

I'm from Jacksonville and stumbled on Buttermilk Bakery while going down a Reddit rabbit hole looking for "the best dough in Florida" -- and wow, Reddit actually came through for once! This place is small but mighty -- super organized, cute outdoor seating, and the smell alone could make you spend your whole paycheck. When I showed up, it was packed, which pretty much confirmed I was in the right spot. I tried a few things (because self-control is overrated), and every single one was incredible. Flaky, buttery, perfectly baked -- honestly, they could teach a masterclass in how to make carbs magical. If you're anywhere near Winter Park, do yourself a favor and swing by. Just be ready to fall in love with everything in the display case.

The place was packed. Cute little bakery with an array of yummy goodness. Really good venue to pick up weekend breakfast

Ask the Community - Buttermilk Bakery

Do they sell a loaf of sourdough bread?

Not anymore! They are focusing on strictly pastries now

Did you/they do some of safety precautions during the pandemic?

Yes. Currently they're only doing pickup orders. Their menu goes live at 7am on their website. They bring the order out to you. The patio is still open for social distancing if you want to eat there

Does anyone know if you have to order ahead for pickup or can you order there?

You have to order via their online ordering site and then they do curbside pickup. They do have a few tables out front and on the side (a few, really two out front and maybe 4-5 small tables on the side patio) but you cannot go inside to order…

I've seen them all over social media and definitely wanted to give them a try. If I wasn't so full from blaze, I would've got some of their cream puffs they looked absolutely amazing. I did decided to get a cookies and cream latte, which I feel like their pricing isn't bad, especially for the quality. My drink was good, the coffee was smooth and the cold foam on top with the cookies really was a nice touch. I'll definitely be back to try one of their cream puffs and or other cute pastries.

Bright, clean, and dialed in with pastries that actually look as good as they photograph. You walk in thinking you'll make a quick, responsible choice. Two minutes later you're staring at the case like you're drafting a fantasy team. We went with the cream puff and that was the right move. Light, airy, not overly sweet, and gone in about three bites flat. No notes. Tried the crème brûlée pastry too. Points for creativity all day. It's a cool concept and well executed, just didn't hit the same level as the cream puff. Still good, just not the headliner. And the iced tea deserves a mention. Strong. Like, actually strong. Not the watered-down afterthought you get at most spots. This one shows up with purpose. Overall, easy four stars. Fun stop, great vibe, and a menu that keeps things interesting without trying too hard. Just don't kid yourself into thinking you're only ordering one thing. That plan falls apart immediately.

That being said, it is a particular method that I'm expecting... as well as a particular strength I expect to receive when I order one. Even if a phin filter is not used...convince me with the taste of the coffee. From the moment they started making my coffee, I knew it wasn't gonna be what I wanted. However, it was already too late as I was invested and had driven quite a ways and brought a friend with me. I ordered a Vietnamese coffee and when I saw the worker walk over and get my coffee out of a big beverage dispenser with a spigot, I cringed. And yes, it was just as bad as you might imagine if you are frequent drinker of traditional Vietnamese coffee. It was not strong, not sweet, and actually had some bitter notes. My friend got a churro coffee of some sort and was satisfied, but nothing to write home about. I gave the stars for the ambiance of the shop. It was different with lots of plants and flowers and was really calming and cute. But I was disappointed in the coffee overall and would not return. The name of the shop just really threw me for a loop so please don't be fooled or enticed by the name. I cannot speak to the other items on menu although we did try and order a particular pastry and it was not available. UPDATE: To address the concerns of comments left by the owner I'm well aware of authentic brewing vs. Western methods as well as the beans used. I'm also accustomed to waiting 10 minutes for my coffee at many locations because I understand the process. I do however understand that this process may not be conducive or practical to their business. My intention is not to detour business but to be real about my experience and to help others that may have similar expectations. To assume that my expectations are shaped by "western coffee expectations" seems...biased. I live close to a predominantly Asian cultural center and for other reasons that I don't feel the need to validate, I think my take is pretty solid. I believe in supporting small businesses but will not give a great review if it is not warranted...which is subjective. I could have mentioned it to your staff but time was a factor as I had an 8 hour drive ahead of me. For that, you do have my apologies.

The new space is more open and thoughtfully laid out, no longer narrow or cramped, while still maintaining the character that made Austin's special. There's a beautiful interior paired with an outdoor area to hang out, which gives the space room to breathe without losing intimacy. We went for the first Sunday open mic at the new location, and the place was packed. The crowd was colorful, the energy was high, and it truly felt like the community showing up to support something they love. The stage lighting was on point, and the night featured a surprise appearance by local superstar comedian Preacher Lawson (of America's Got Talent fame), along with the excellent hosting by Craig Norberg, who has been running these shows every Sunday and continues to do an incredible job. The lineup brought together legendary comedians alongside fresh new voices, creating a diverse, supportive, and genuinely fun night of comedy. Everyone was encouraging, the room was engaged, and you could tell people were just happy to be there. Austin's Coffee didn't just reopen--it leveled up. Fair warning: parking is around the back and it's kind of a nightmare, especially when it's busy.
