Hands down my favorite bakery in MA. You can't go wrong with any item on the menu, pretty much everything is delicious. My favorites are their everything croissant, cretzel, and blueberry bar...so far. My sister is addicted to their caneles. Their sweet pastries are not too overwhelmingly sweet which is what I like and everything is baked fresh everyday!

How lucky are we in New England to have so many terrific coffee shops to enjoy?! Here is another little delight with a variety of sweets and savories to go with your tasty latte or London Fog. Scones, cookies, breads, muffins, macaroons, croissants, too many to name. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Small seating area gets packed quickly, so be prepared to take yours to go or grab the couple counter stools where you can enjoy your cardamom swirl.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

My friends had raved about Butternut Bakehouse, so I was excited to check it out! They were pretty busy on a Saturday (late) morning, but the line to order moved quickly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The interior was very small, but had some seating and cute art/decor.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I ordered a Vietnamese Iced Coffee and Blueberry Bar. The Blueberry Bar was fantastic - great texture, perfect level of sweetness. It was also surprisingly filling. The Vietnamese Iced Coffee was tasty, but not really authentic. It tasted more like an Iced Coffee just sweetened with condensed milk - not as strong as I was expecting. However, I tried a sip of my friend's Hibiscus Limeade, and that was so good and refreshing. Would return to try more!

Finally made it to Butternut Bakehouse in Arlington! Cute bakery with a ton of delicious items to pick from. I picked up a couple of the weekend special Kaya Donuts, a Morning Bun, Banana Bread with Walnuts, and a cappucino to go. Service was great. Store had a steady stream of customers so you know that everything is super fresh. Nothing is uber sweet which leaves room for a finer appreciation of the other flavors and textures. The Morning Bun reminds me of petite palmiers in the flakiness. The Kaya donut is my favorite, with its gooey, custardy center encased in soft fresh bread. The banana bread has a hint of spices, I couldn't put my finger on it, but it's very moist and really quite good.

What a great little spot! There were many tasty looking pastries and breakfast items and staff was very helpful and friendly. Really enjoyed everything we ordered! Cretzel (croissant pretzel) was delicious and a perfect crunch on the outside and soft on the inside. Loved the everything bagel seasoning on top. Perfect savory pastry. Savory hand pie had great filling with white bean, spinach, and some onions. Great filling ratio on the inside. Also pastry was perfect consistency. Would have been great warmed up! Quiche was super fluffy and not too much crust on the bottom (also no soggy bottom!). The outside, top crust was perfect. Inside of quiche was delicious and not runny. Breakfast sandwich had really good and unique flavor! Didn't love it on the focaccia because it was too light and fluffy (would have been great on toasted something or a croissant). We also really enjoyed the Americano! It had good flavor, but definitely was not hot enough (usually they are way too hot). This was a great breakfast spot, seemed to have consistent flow of customers, great to sit for awhile, and bathrooms were clean! Highly recommend.

Cute little spot for pastries and coffee. There are some window seats if you want to eat there. The morning bun and chocolate chip cookie were both delicious!

Chocolate croissant

My 2021 Boston croissant search included a very impressive showing at Butternut Bakehouse (Arlington MA). Chocolate croissant: It wasn't warm, but its outer crunch and buttery inner tenderness still came roaring through, with just the right amount of dark chocolate chunks (you shouldn't have too many and shouldn't upstage the croissant itself). Pop Tart: Everyone's doing them nowadays. Their take on a pop tart was basically raspberry strudel meets crunchy phyllo dough. Solid. Almond Cornmeal Cake: The item with the most wow factor, and also with raspberries. Imagine the moistest, butteriest cornbread ever and then imagine moister and butterier. Or more moist, more buttery, and more grammatically correct. Very impressive bakery. Even with sharing and not finishing, I skipped lunch. Looking forward to revisiting in 2022.

From top to bottom: potato croissant, quiche, morning bun

Expensive prices. Croissant a little too light and fluffy for my preference. Nice atmosphere. Cute little shop.

I've also made a customized version of the demogorgon to add caramel core and fudge sauce. You mostly taste the toppings more than the actual ice cream. The demogorgon is great for the chocolate on chocolate craving. I didn't like the Vader as much because the frosting on top is too sweet. Cannolis and cream I subbed the Oreo frosting with their homemade whip. Their whip doesn't taste like anything sadly and their frosting is overpowering. I probably wouldn't get this again since all you taste is the chocolate chips and a hint of Oreo. The yogurt itself was bland. For the blueb sundae I love the fresh blueberries, pudding and crumb topping. It's very nice for a fruit ice cream just wish the ice cream was more flavorful. Order online for easier pickup as there is only 1 screen to take orders at and no seating inside. Quick service. Has picnic tables outside to sit and not too bad to find parking on the street. Has some little tables but limited and twinkly lights at night. Staff seemed very stressed when people crowd around and needs better organization of the pickup area vs ordering vs waiting to avoid this frustration/rudeness from the staff.

Yay! They have decaf options!!…read more My bf and I were thirsty and was craving something sweet. Luckily we were walking about and found Bubble Nation. They have the classic tea options along with smoothies, fruit juices and several decaf options which is great since my bf is trying to avoid caffeine drinks. I got their brown sugar boba milk tea and my bf got one of their decaf coconut drink, both with boba. The boba was yummy and the brown sugar tea was also very good and not too sweet. Both drinks had the perfect amount of ice and boba. What a treat! The service was quick and there is an option to order on the flat screen or in person. There are a few stools to sit but not too much seating. Will definitely be back!

The first time I went I was surprised to find all four available flavors contain chocolate: it was chocolate, a peanut butter chocolate, almond chocolate, and some kind of cookie with chocolate. Pretty laughable if you don't like chocolate, which was exactly what I did when I left empty handed. I got lucky today and was able to see strawberry on the menu. Unfortunately it was given to me with brown streaks which clearly meant the scoop used was not cleaned before they served me. I don't expect a deep clean but at least rinse the dang utensil, couldn't you? When I walked in I did see an employee pick out random stray toppings that fell into the other cups with his bare hands and then pop them into his mouth as a snack. Not a great experience and unfortunately the taste also didn't redeem my visit either.

Fish cakes were small and perfectly uniform - almost like they were frozen rather than prepared on site. Green curry had some spice but was mostly one note, there just wasn't much depth of flavor. Vegetables were all cut in huge hunks - both dishes had giant pieces of red bell peppers and onions. Fried rice was pretty bland and barely had any Chinese broccoli in it. Ambiance was bare bones - you order at the counter and they bring you your food and plastic side plates. Half the tables were stacked with boxes and bags of takeout orders. To top it off there's no bathroom, we were told to use the bathroom at another local business. If I'm gonna spend $60 somewhere, I expect to be able to wash my hands before eating and use the restroom. Perhaps there are some specialty dishes that we didn't try but this was my 2nd time ordering from here (I got take out once before) and both times the food was pretty bland. A truly underwhelming experience - especially when there are so many better restaurants in the area.

I think great concept, but execution wasn't quite there. And maybe I just got unlikely with the item I ordered. I got the breakfast wrap which was an assortment of roasted veggies (think squash, broccoli, eggs) in the wrap. This was certainly unorthodox, but I wasn't opposed to it. I didn't really read much into it so I kind of was expecting a breakfast burrito, but got a pleasant surprise since I do like roasted veggies as well. The problem is that there was not much flavor to it and it left a lot to be desired. I think they could have done a lot more with it. Despite being underwhelmed, I will probably come here again and try something else.
