For starters, the guacamole burger is stuffed with loads of flavor, while the Meatball Sandwich is packed with a bunch of sauce and the "meatballs" are not too grainy or heavy! I also love how they have a vegan fish and chips and a neon Guac save the Queen as an ode to this London location. My only problem with this place is that the food is somewhat on the saltier side! I was really excited to try a new all-vegan place. I brought along two family members who are flexitarian and one who's a meat eater. I had the pesto meatball sub and the mac & cheese and thoroughly enjoyed both - the potato sub roll was super tasty and the mac & cheese rivals that of Temple of Hackney. The others had a salad that was "too much crunch, not enough salad", a burger that kept escaping its bun, and an avocado toast that was underwhelming. Additionally, our drinks were forgotten and there was no cream of any kind for the coffees. Despite all the utensils being vegware, with such a large dining area for eating in they really should make an effort to have proper silverware. Also, the fries were cold and the peas tasteless, I dare say unseasoned. With a really inviting look and a mesmerising pesto sauce this meat-less-ball sub is the winner of this lunch! Super seasoned, packed with fresh vegetables, nutritional yeast and a rich vegan mayonnaise. The very tasty meat-less-balls had almost a meaty consistency... I was truly amazed by how they managed to work the meat and make it palatable even to omnivores! The burger is a bit the wallflower of the gang, I would say. It is easily blurred in the vortex of flavours from the other dishes, and in fact I forgot about it quite quickly. It's like the classic sad McDonald's Happy Meal burger, with a real green leaf added as a garnishment! The sweet potato fries on the other hand were absolutely delicious. I moved to London from New York about half a year ago and I was ecstatic when I heard from my friend that by Chloe was opening in Convent Garden. I sprained my ankle the week of but still came here anyway. Their menu is pretty much the same as New York with some additional items catered to the London population. Specifically, the vegetarian version of fish & chips and shepherd's pie are exclusive to London branches. However, I didn't bother with these as I'm not a huge fan of their regular versions anyway. The stars of by Chloe in my opinion are the Guac Burger and the Quinoa Taco Salad. The Guac Burger is absolutely delicious and filling and I always have to get some air baked sweet potato fries to go with this. Also, their beet ketchup and chipotle mayo is so good, I wish these would replace the regular ketchup and mayo. The Quinoa Taco Salad has loads of flavor and texture and it doesn't feel like eating a salad at all. My favorite part is that the avocado isn't extra. Other times, I get the Avocado Toast, which comes with a seasonal and unique combination of toppings. The 7 grain bread they use is so yummy and the avocado to toast ratio is on point. The only negative for me was that all the food didn't taste as great as they do in New York. I can't help comparing this to my experiences in NY since that is where I fell in love with by Chloe. It's still delicious though so this won't stop me from coming back! read more

I was beyond excited to find out that by Chloe had opened in London so naturally I had to go immediately the day after I found out. The cafe was large and had a lot of seating space, and the decor gave it a very vibrant atmosphere. I decided to have the Spicy Thai salad since I was still full from breakfast, thinking that it would be lighter than the Classic Burger...but the salad was huge and justified the hefty price of £9.95 (expensive by singaporean standards since it was nearly 18SGD!) it came with marinated tofu, edamame, crispy wonton skins, quinoa and a salad base of lettuce and kale (?) with a peanut dressing. The salad was really tasty with the tempeh but I think the dressing could've been more flavourful as it didn't really have a peanutty taste. I also bought a slice of banana bread on the way out since it seemed more worth it than the chocolate chip cookie, but it wasn't great. It barely had the usual banana taste and was more like a vanilla cake with chocolate chips and walnuts to me. The top of the bread was also somehow very brittle and crunchy and more like a cookie as it broke off from the bread easily. The other baked goods like the cupcakes looked good though, and I'd like to try them another time. This location also had London specials like fish & chips and shepherds pie, which was quite unique and sounded really good as well. Their special chipotle aioli and beet ketchup were also so tasty! The staff were also really welcoming and prepared my food quickly, despite being a bit unfamiliar since it had just opened. This place is just so darn cute!! Great plant based food options and an instagram-able ambiance. I came to visit because I heard it was a US restaurant that branched into the UK. No disappointments here. We tried a cookie, a burger, the fries, a cold pressed juice and shot, pasta, sauces, and kombucha and not one thing was less than yummy (okay, I don't like the beer ketchup but my friend loved it). Hmmmmm... ...firstly, I think it's important to say that when we arrived at ByChloe we were excited! We were lucky enough to have brunch at their restaurant near the Flat Iron building in New York last year and loved it. We also went to their restaurant in the Rockefeller Centre a few days later for dinner and although we weren't 100% impressed on that occasion we put it down to the choices we'd made rather than the restaurant. The fact that ByChloe had crossed the pond to Blighty was therefore a very exciting development. The reality... Two negatives hit us straight away: 1. The prices. Everything seemed to be the same in £s as they were in $s in the US i.e. $10 dishes costs £10! Even basic food seemed ridiculously expensive. 2. The venue. Whilst the location is good the acoustics in the restaurant are terrible. Voices echoing in a cacophony of sound with loud music played over the top. The noise drowned out the staff calling people's names when their orders were ready. Surely another system like those vibrating discs that tell you when your food is ready would make more sense and make the place feel less frenetic? As it is it's quite a stressful environment when full and not somewhere you'd want to spend any time. The food: Average to good really. The burgers were pretty good, although nowhere near as good as 'BigV' at Borough Market (and much more expensive). The Mac and cheese was tasty, although the faux bacon was very salty. The vegan fish and chips was ok but very bland. Basically a chunk of tofu with little to no seasoning that was covered in batter. The cakes were also quite uninspiring, both to look at and to eat. Quite surprising when you think how easy it is to get great Vegan desserts in London these days. Overall we were quite disappointed. ByChloe doesn't really give you anything that you can't get elsewhere at a lower cost and often much better. A shame and a real missed opportunity. *** UPDATE - 13th OCTOBER 2018 *** OK, with a totally open mind the four of us went to byChloe yesterday for brunch. We'd really enjoyed it in New York and figured it'd be just as good in London. Firstly, a positive: they HAVE changed the ordering system and they now give you one of those buzzing things which tells you when your food's ready. That's the positives pretty much out of the way! We ordered two Early Bird brunches, one with extra avocado and shiitake bacon, two daily pancakes with whipped coconut cream and two daily smoothies. Total cost: £55. When our buzzer sounded and I went to collect the food neither pancake had the whipped coconut cream. I asked for them and they gave me one and said they would bring another over to me. I then checked my brunch and noticed that the shiitake bacon was missing. The server disappeared for a few minutes and reappeared with my brunch which now had shiitake bacon on it. The food itself was pretty good but the portion sizes were far too small. The kids' pancakes were actually two small pancakes with some fruit and whipped cream. Bear in mind that they cost £10 each! At this point we were also still waiting for one of the portions of whipped cream so I went to the counter to ask where it was. The guy at the counter said they were making a fresh batch and he would bring it to my table. By this point my daughter had finished her pancake. THEY NEVER DID BRING ME THE WHIPPED CREAM! The brunches were also far too small. I could've eaten two, even with the extra avocado and shiitake bacon. For £55 we got two small portions of pancakes, one with the cream missing, two small brunches and two nice but expensive smoothies. Let's call byChloe for what it is: a total rip-off! I won't be eating there again and will now even give it a miss next time we're in the States. By comparison, for dinner yesterday we went to The Diner on The Strand which I've also reviewed before. We had fantastic Vegan food served quickly and at a reasonable price. Their pancakes are about 30% cheaper than byChloe for three times the portion size. The quality is also better and there is more choice. byChloe has no excuses whatsoever. The world has moved on and Vegan eateries are now popping up everywhere. It's only achievement is as the most chaotically run, over-priced Vegan place in London! read more

First of all, I love the atmosphere. It's so fun - especially the hanging chairs. Service was a little slow, but the food was really good overall. The Thai salad was actually one of the best salads I've ever had - there were plenty of toppings and the tofu was so well-cooked with an apricot teriyaki marinade. The sweet potato fries were also amazing and I couldn't believe they were air baked. We were a little less impressed by the guac burger. It was really plain and felt like something that we could quickly make at home. The avocado also overpowered everything else. Both were good, although there was a mix up with the kale Caesar and getting shell of avocado in it etc. although there was the mix up, their customer service made up for it immensely and was absolutely phenomenal. It is spacious, feels upscale, and while it is crowded and trendy just like those in New York, it seemed to have a more airy and clean vibe. The menu is very similar and quote delicious! The Mac and cheese is the best thing here besides the beet ketchup. Just get the Mac and cheese, you won't regret it. The guac burger is very good too and I liked it better than the other burger they have. I'm not a fan of their smoothies, but the fries and chocolate chip pecan cookie are good. I also tried one of their salads which was also good. Reliable for a decent meal, but not one of my favorite places. read more
