Can you believe Downtown HI-Tech was gonna charge me between $250 and $300. It's ridiculous and plus an extra $75 for the diagnosis. The service here is AMAZING. I have my macbook pro since 2010 and it was really slow. Noel (the owner) helped me replacing the hard drive and battery in a reasonable prince and now it is running so fast. Noel is really nice and responsive. I went into BYOD for the second time last week. The first time was when my laptop suffered a very damaging drop and my device was completely cracked. They were honest about probably not being able to recover data and tried it any way at no charge. Their policy on data recovery is not to charge unless it can be recovered, which is obviously a very honest business in this line of work. I've gone to several different repair shops before this and each of them had some sort of security deposit or labor fee. My second time was to fix a flickering MacBook Pro LCD screen. Though the replacement screen itself was quite expensive, the labor charge they took on was very reasonable. The guy ordered the replacement screen in front of me and told me exactly the day it would arrive. I was able to take my laptop back with me until he called several days later, on the day he specified, to have me drop it off. The process was so easy and I'm very satisfied with the services. My MacBook Pro looks brand new. There aren't many computer repair services that give you a truly honest diagnosis. My experience is that they usually try to get you to pay for a diagnostic service that you don't need. BYOD is different. They're efficient and honest. read more

I'm a freelance computer animator and I had the unfortunate experience of accidentally knocking a flower vase onto my laptop. I'm not sure what kind of crazy miracle grow was in the vase but it totally killed my computer. BYOD makes the unpleasant process of getting your broken iPhone screen repaired painless. Fast, fairly priced, good work: a rare combination. My advice: get the tempered glass screen so you don't have to go back a second time like I did (my girlfriend, also a BYOD customer, got one and it's great). It's worth the small amount extra, believe me. Much thicker and sturdier if you've got butterfingers like me. Just my luck though, Noel's just run out of them when I arrive with my battered phone. He is honest, polite, smart and has a nice shop in a nice building with a nice elevator - AND he's is less expensive than anyone else I've dealt with. What else is there? I had a hard drive fail on my Dell PC and brought it in to see what could be done. After checking things over he found that it was completely totalled and needed to be replaced. He didn't have a replacement drive, so he personally drove around town after he closed his office to find the correct one (the nearby Staples didn't have it). Unlike others, he is quick to response to texts and took the time to explain the process and I felt at ease right away. Basically, my hard disc crashed and Noel was able to recover the data w/o any issues. He even went to Staples to buy for me an external hard drive big enough to hold the recovered data (an extra trip that he saved me). He educated me about the important of backing up data (even have a 2nd backup) and recommended the use of surge protector to help protect my electronics in case of a power surge. I came down to Los Angeles for a trip and found that a third of the screen stopped working. As it turned out I had a hairline crack in the screen which didn't allow for touch on the upper third.
